Personal headcanon: My Pet Monster is actually My Buddy, hideously transformed after being bitten by a Boglin. Tragic really... 😢
I like it.
it's canon now.
Headcanon ACCEPTED.
Haa!
Works for me, i bet they would have sold more of them had they taken that angle. 👍
You got Mad Balls, bruh.
I used to sleep with that toy when I was a kid. Nothing like waking up to yellow -green eyes staring at you and feeling comfy and safe. Takes me back.
Those molded plastic teeth did some damage when this thing inevitably got used in a stuffed animal fight.
They weren't all that hard or sharp.
@@cityman2312 They were considerably harder than a Popple or a Wuzzle or any other stuffed toy you may have chucked across the room without really thinking it through. Glo Worms and Chubbles had some weight to them, but at least the hard parts were internal.
Came for the history, stayed for Dan singing "My Buddy" theme.
Yeah, that's my dose of PTSD this morning.
But no 'My Pet Monster' theme!
That song/commercial drove me insane, mostly cause they played it All The Damn Time!
I pranked my grandma with my cousin's My Pet Monster. I left it covered up in the bed of their guest bedroom. It stayed there for about a week before grandma found it. I was sitting in the kitchen heard her "Oh!" followed by her coming out grumbling. Grandpa thought it was the funniest thing ever, Grandma, not so much.
Bet she can't see why kids like Cinnamon Toast Crunch either.
@@corygraves4351 or why kids love Apple Jacks
@@PrinceMarcusWilliam also that Bubble Tape was for you, not them.
@@itzybitzyspyder my mother has a mohawk lol something like that
My little brother was 11 when he got one of these for Christmas and was SO psyched when he unwrapped it. Props to my mom, Josh never even asked for one but he dragged that sumbitch around almost everywhere we went.
I took mine around too lol
that's cool. I was born in '86 so every kid I saw with one of these was in kindergarten or under. So your bro brought it everywhere in middle school? Did he stop in high school? JW. I'm actually not talking crap. JW..........Also I wrote this comment b4 getting to the part where it said these were made in 86.
@@theskyybay420 Yeah, he was 11 in '86. I would have thought 4 years-old would have been pretty young to have one of these.
@@seancallaway5204 I just realized, I thought about it after my comment. My 2 friends who had this monster got it from their old brother (hand me down) they are kinda scary lol! Probably why my parents got me a My buddy which became scary after I saw child’s play.
I got mine when I was 9, I was the perfect age for something like that
"Alyson Court" whoa, Claire Redfield...
All chillin on the Big Comfy Couch
And they probably still get residual checks more than you earn
The Ridge Wallet is so durable, not even My Pet Monster could break it.
Not even the hard molded plastic teeth during a stuffed animal fight?
Fun Fact: Alyson Court also voiced Jubilee in the 90's X-Men cartoon as well as voicing Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2, Code Veronica, The Darkside Chronicles, Operation Raccoon City and Degeneration.
That's a pretty sweet resume right there.
I knew I recognized her name, I just couldn't place it...
If you're Canadian you'll probably recognize her also from Big Comfy Couch.
@@Roche_Furman
That show actually was on TV here in the US back in the day.
I've seen some other people mention it here in the comments that kind of blows my mind.
That is a useful fact. Thanks, friendo.
Is it just me or does anyone else wonder if he influenced Stitch?
Without a doubt especially if you check out the cartoon.
There's a My Pet Monster in an episode of Gosei Sentai Dairanger. In episode 4 you see one riding a bike about 5 minutes in as a load of dolls are going on a gun shooting rampage. You know, normal Sentai stuff. It's pretty cool cos it looks like they rigged it up to the bike peddles to make it look like it was peddling.
My grandparents almost got me one of these, but my parents insisted it would give me nightmares. Biggest disappointment of my childhood.
I have such fond memories of this movie and the cartoon. I always wanted to see a sequel with Max dealing with Beaster and a conclusion to the show. I never realized the cartoon was only 13 episodes, they packed so much lore into it. It was seriously shows like this and He-Man that gave me reason to create narratives for all my games and eventually led to me designing games myself :D.
There was suppose to be more episodes, however Jeff McGibbon said he could no longer do the voice of Monsie when he hit puberty which helped cause the show to be cancelled.
There is actually a indie fan movie mad. It released last yr. It's definitely low budget but a good watch non the less.
I nearly spit out my coffee when you said “Quality bondage nonetheless” I should refrain from drinking any warm beverages when I watch this show! 😂
I swear Mine was haunted!🤣
Cabbage Patch Kids are one of those things that no boys wanted but every aunt thought they did. Next time buy a robot!
Yeah I definitely think it was the really the parents who were obsessing over the Cabbage Patch Kids.
Had one as a kid, watching this video made me remember the plastic smell of those shackles!
Same here man.
"But, Hello You."
It absolutely made My day to see one of my favorite creators(Larry Bundy Jr.) also watches one of my Other favorite creators(Toy Galaxy). Hope your doing well, i look forward to seeing more of your videos 👍
Right!?!? And what the hell was the hair made from, like stringy felt lol
Hello you!
Hello You!
Kinds disappointed that we never got that Krampus doll. Krampus deserves more love.
I remember my mom getting the My Pet Monster vhs for my sister & I from her Avon catalogue lol.
YOU'VE GOT MONSTER POWERS
I still have the original My Pet Monster with shackles. Love this plush too much to part with it.
The My Pet Monster cartoon of my memory was a limited-animation cartoon, adapted from Golden Books, where he came from a hole in the basement. It was aimed at even younger kids, and had an episode where he went to school and said the inventor of the telephone was "Alexander Graham....Cracker!"
I remember the theme song
I was going to mention that also, where’s those videos?
Limited animation?
This is the same type of animation I've seen in Tiny Toons and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo to me, lol.
Now sing Kid Sister.
After 30 years I finally got that damn "my buddy" song out of my head, and now... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
You and me both
@Cole1982 lol haha that one doesn't work on me lol
"Brains & hearts, boogers & farts"
Who knew Dan Larson got dem *BARS?*
Who the heck is Dan Olson?
@@SecretGalaxyTV My apologies, I've misspelled your name with another UA-camr.
My money is on ALF too. BTW I *really* think the tv show helped "inspire" both Toy Story and Monsters Inc. from Pixar. B~)
I remember when Burger King released the alf stuffed figured with records you can play! That was mad crazy..my mom bought us so many of them!
I think Toy Story was inspired by Jim Henson's "The Christmas Toy."
"Fartificial Intelligence"
My amusement is immeasurable, and my sides are ruined.
I love your power puff girl references
We can all only dream to have half the impact on this Earth that the guy who wrote the "My Buddy" jingle has
My Pet Monster. The IP that nearly pushed one certain UA-camr, a Critic...of Nostalgia to the brink of quitting UA-cam.
Wait...Saban Entertainment had the My Pet Monster licence...and we never had a Power Rangers vs My Pet Monster crossover??? What a wasted opportunity!! 😮😮
I just commented somewhere but one appears in an episode of Gosei Sentai Dairanger. They had the footage but never used it.
Right? I hate how deathly seriously they take these properties. I want *all* the characters mashed together, like that 90s anti-drug special with every cartoon character under the sun in it. My Pet Monster can live with the Ewoks. The Power Rangers can fight Rubik the Cube. Jem and the Holograms can help Batman. The more random it is, the more I'm here for it.
My feeling on fandoms is that fans become obnoxious when they can no longer laugh at the thing they're a fan of. The only thing worse than Jar Jar Binks, are the people who still complain about him.
At the very least, they could have had Rita Repulsa bring one of the toys to life by saying "Make My Pet Monster grow!"
@@Bunny-ch2ul Are you kidding? I love Darth Binkious. He played the Jedi right into Palpatine's hands.
I had the mini My Pet Monster figure. It still had the orange chains.
I didn't have one of these as a kid, but a friend did. When I showed her the wrestling pin I had come up with, she said I was doing it wrong and that I'd have lost. Then it turned out that a reverse full arm lock pin is perfectly valid in MMA. Who's laughing now, Jes?
Still have a my pet monster I bought at Kaybee stores in the early 2000's
It is strange to me I think I do remember seeing the newer commercials in my late teens for the re-release of my pet monster.
By the 2000s everything '80s was new again apparently.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu right? I didn't even know mine was a rerelease, it was a Kaybee outlet. But he talked so he isn't an original.
@@snarferyasmr3739
Yeah until he mentioned it I had completely forgotten that existed if I ever remembered existing in the first place. But like I said the early 2000s they were literally re-launching tons of stuff so it's not surprising that I missed it all.
I had one of these as a kid. My mom threw it away because she swore it started moving itself and making noises on its own. Seriously my mom said this thing became haunted and chucked it lmao. I actually really loved this thing for awhile was sad sge threw it away but when she told me why I understood.
Rofl. Okay, related story: My sister had a Penny doll that she tortured me with for weeks until my mom finally brought us both in the kitchen. Doll in hand, she took out the batteries and held it up, saying, "See, it's just a toy." The doll, who we did not know until right then had a backup battery, greeted her and was promptly chucked across the room before she got rid of it entirely.
@@kevinglusing3797
All right that's pretty great.
I can only imagine someone's absolute terror before they realize what was going on. Still moms are definitely not known for being amused by things like that and will instead chuck it right into the garbage.
@Lando Calrissian what a weird and toxic comment.
Now you are stalking my channel and leaving weird comments. Reported and keep living that sad life psychopath.
U understood? Wtf
Alyson Court is iconic, that jubilee voice
My Buddy? You mean the “Good guys doll” 😁
Not gonna sing "kid sister" too, huh?
You had me at farts.
I remember the movie. It was so cheesy, but fun. Even had the guy Tommy Callahan sold brake pads to.
It was such a Canadain production. All Canadian TV and movies were lit the same way ine the 80's. Badly.
Could you guys do a history of the Incredible Crash Dummies? I loved those toys as a kind. I always wondered why they went from Vince and Larry to Slick and Spin.
As a kid, they used to say you were such a loser, you couldn’t buy a friend. Hasbro made a toy out of that concept, called My Buddy. At least My Pet Monster could kick that guys ass.
I needed a disclaimer before the My Buddy theme. Everyone's laughing at me for remembering it 30+ years later... And instinctively singing along!
Yes! Not too long ago one of the people that worked on the cartoon contacted me to chat briefly about the production. Most random DM I’ve ever received. Awesome vid as usual, man!
There is a fan man filmed. It got released last yr. Fun watch
Still have my pet monster, but now my son plays with him.
I remember renting the video of this as a kid. Loved it. Was pissed I couldn't get an OG My Pet Monster. I got a My Pet Football Monster. Was so mad at my mother for that one.
There is a indie fan film that was released last yr of my pet monster. If ur interested.
Oh man, this is literally my childhood
I can't help giggling at all the bondage innuendo. Let me wheeze quietly in the corner, my sides...
I had one of these guys. Got him second hand from a thrift store. I didn't know anything about My Pet Monster. I just thought he looked cool.
If I had a dollar for every time I've come across something at a thrift shop well after the trend died I'd be a millionaire. Inevitably the market goes crazy for something and if you know when to buy it and just sit on it for a decade you can make out like a bandit. Sadly I do not.
I used to call mine “Pickle-nose.”
My Pet Monster was the first video I looked for on here when I discovered this channel.
I remember going to a friend's house and watching the My Pet Monster movie. I was instantly fascinated with it and it gave me nightmares for weeks. Good stuff.
I totally remember that live action My Pet Monster, I watched the hell out of it when I was a kid. I still have the My Pet Monster toy from my childhood, without the shackles, I passed it down to my oldest daughter years ago, and she still loves it. Such good memories.
Would love to see an episode on Starcade!
Still have Boglins and Mad Balls too.
Don't Cuddle The Krampus not making it's goal still haunts me to this day, they got so close. and then Warpo just vanished, wish they would've tried again.
My Pet Monster is in my son's closet. Only one shackle, though. I hear constant moaning.
This was my absolute favorite toy growing up and my Grandpa had repaired the chains because I eventually broke them using them so much! But still works to this day and in good shape for my kids!
"Literally bound to bring home the fun" Nice.
I still have my original My Pet Monster. I remember getting him for Christmas in the 80's. It's incredible, he still smells like I remember when I pulled him out of the cardboard packaging.
The ladies all call me "my pet monster"!
Just kidding. Ladies don't call me anything. Ladies don't call me. Oh God, I'm so lonely.
"Hasbro - Till all are one" has be crying everytime I hear Dan say that
This is the toy that got away for me. It’s basically a Teddy Bear, but it has a totally cool cartoon that goes with it! Yeah, I got super excited when I watched this episode!
5:31 - the orange version is clearly the inspiration for Gritty
Thank you, Dan, for mentioning Warpo's Don't Cuddle the Krampus. After all these years I'm still salty it didn't get funded and that Warpo abandoned the idea. They have their reason but still, what could have been...sigh.
Those breakaway chains were the bomb. Played with them more than the doll
Had one as a kid and remember opening it under the kitchen table for some reason. My dad didn't think the shackles were supposed to be broken and almost yelled at me when I broke them right in front of him until I showed him the box. One day, it just disappeared. Loved the show too. Never forgot the theme song. I did however forget the My Buddy song. Until today.
I loved this movie as a kid and wanted a sequel so badly - it ended on a huge cliff hanger!
Never heard of this before. "Aww, he's cute."
Sees the Funko Pop. "And he's not so cute anymore."
Yeah it's amazing how fast those Funko Pop things turn something actually pretty cute into the absolute stuff of your worst nightmares.
Still I actually kind of like it.
Yes. Absolutely agree.
I used to wear My Pet Monster's handcuffs as bracelets, and I wore the football jersey.
Oh how this channel encapsulates my life, childhood, and soul.
I still have my My Pet Monster. As a child of the 80s I thought that thing was so cool but I have to say that the live action My Pet Monster movie was terrible. If I remember correctly there was a My Pet Monster cartoon series and I think I only watched a few episodes. Clearly it didn’t leave any lasting impressions. The only stuffed animal type toy I ever owned was a My Pet Monster. With that being said, I absolutely hated My Buddy. I didn’t know anyone who owned one and after the release of Child’s Play, it was a done deal. We couldn’t look at My Buddy in any other way other than a possessed psychopathic serial killer.
I had a My Pet Monster, ah the good old days.
I'm actually wearing a shirt of my pet monster right now!! 🤣 🤣 I remember my mom buying me this when I was little... It's probably lost in the storage now... Lol I'd buy another if I could! 🤣
Finally you’ve made a video about a toy I still have! My old My Pet Monster lives in my office and still has his original cuffs. He’s cool. :)
The "my buddy" and "kid sister" theme song will stay with me till the grave...dont know why. Damn you 80s and your awesome commercials!
just looking at the doll, I'm recalling all the textures of my My Pet Monster like it was yesterday...pretty smart tactile design for a kids toy with that small range of variety
THANK YOU!
I remember the movie so well. I remember the cartoon. I loved the toy and never got one - my neighbor had one and I wore those shackles as often as I could!
I live in NE Ohio and these things were everywhere since American Greetings was in Cleveland.
Fun fact, the former A.G. facilities are now a MASSIVE 5 story factory sized art studio/gallery "mall" of sorts called 78th Street Studios. David Bowie even visited the place and found an artist there who illustrated the children's book he wrote.
My Pet Monster, Mad Balls, and David Bowie.
It's actually extremely nice to know that something isn't just rotting away somewhere. Buildings getting a second life is always so satisfying.
I remember watching this cartoon when I was a kid. But it kind of faded into the background and I thought for years that I made it up, because no one else around me seemed to remember it. Glad to see that I wasn’t completely crazy. 😅
I loved this cartoon, but I never had the toy. I have a whole new appreciation for this toy now.
THE FART NOISES!!! they got my every time lol
I had this one! I loved the movie and the cartoon and had the toy and made my kids watch the movie and cartoon, because I'm an awesome dad.
Hope you didn't give them any blunt trama.
Is it weird that I find the cartoony Monster cuter than his plush self?
It's in my heart too... I sang along with you. Thanks for sharing the moment.
I had a talking ALF doll as a kid that was almost as big as me, in fact I still have that very doll in my collection minus the talk box my mother tossed in the trash after getting pissed off one day hearing it too much lol!
the live-action pilot implies that the human main character becomes a pet.........
Used to have one! 2:24 - was about to say where are the orange cuffs/shackles!!
Had Madballs too, two or three, they were cool!!
Had no idea this was more than a toy
Thumbnail brought heavy nostalgia back 😁
I miss this bad boy
My Pet Monster was my favorite thing when I was a kid. I’m so curious to see the new fan movie they made!
"I didn't know that was still in there"
Me either, now it's gonna be stuck in my head all day. Unless... **stares at Jack Daniels**
I never had the toy, but for some reason I did have the live action movie on VHS and remember watching it many times. In hindsight, I think there's a lot more bondage and petplay in that movie than the writers intended.
I had a my pet monster+vhs, and one of my best friends had a couple boglins. ❤ Life was sweet in the 80s!
Still got mine. The Grey vinyl on his hands is flaking. Had a lot of fun with it.
i had the original my pet monster toy when i was really little but i was way to scared of it so it was given to a cousin of mine
I still have the orange spin off dog puppet. Love this line. Good one!👍
Best in depth documentary about the world of My Pet Monster ever. Great job!
This was the only toy I was ever afraid of. I didn't want to be left alone with this thing.
Fun fact. One of the kids in the My Pet Monster commercial was Edan Gross who would go on to voice the Good Guy Dolls in the first three Child's Play movies.
I know a lot about nothing.
I can relate my head is full of that kind of stuff. I know some people absolutely can't stand that kind of useless information but I freaking love it.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu My sister calls me the walking IMDB. Internet Movie Douche Bag :p
I...I thought I was the only one who remembers the My Buddy song. It hasn't left my head, ever.
But this was a great video! I remember these guys. I didn't own them, but I knew so many people who had them.
