    Love that there are still people who plan their routes on a map.
    You have zero overview on your smartphone. And indeed, you notice the difference between smaller and bigger roads. And the smallest are best for cycling, esp. uphill.

      @@pinarellosq2868 ok do you have a job? Do you show up unprepared? If you do you aren't allowed to keep that job. Lance won all of his TDF's by his meticulous preparation and being more informed any ready than any of his competitors. I have been a loyal fan of his and this Podcast from day 1 of 1999 Tdf and first Pod here. I am sorry if offended however this Pod seemed to be thrown together at last minute without any discussion or forethought unlike TDF pods...its better to not do a Pod than make a half hearted effort that was evident today.

    Drill did work but the front tyre/ brake was locked somehow. What was that and how that even posible?

    • @archetypex65
      @archetypex65 4 роки тому +1

      Couple of things come to mind first of all the nut inside the maxle could have been stripped or stripped out when the mechanic engage the drill maybe too much torque. If the brake pads or caliper Pistons were locked out of the rotor that would have been an extreme rare situation the probability of that happening is going to be fractional Maybe 0.01%. The calipers and pistons are nearly identical to motorcycle-style calipers and pistons and they never lock up unless there's a full system type of brake failure. So if the Pistons lock the pads on to the rotor then that would definitely be an anomaly or possibly even Rider error but it's likely that the nut on the axle was already stripped or stripped during the process of trying to remove it

Also I would like to make a call to the old cycling. What would do Fignon, Hinault, Bahamontes, Ocaña...? The Basq Astana guys are use to race in those conditions and learn the old way. They go for it. Lance, you know how is the weather in Basq Country and how the roads are. Those are the conditions you have in the Basq Tour. Soap in the roads maybe?

You must have good luck, good genetics, good mechanics, good tacticians, good domestics, good masseurs, etc.... If your bike fails you should expect an attack, if you are not a good descender you should expect attacks downhill, if you see your rival eating before the official point you should expect attacks.

    I understand the reason behind the 3 km rule, but wonder if a rider who hits the deck on an uphill finish and crawls to the line gets an advantage over a GT rival who goes full gas till the end. No one is going to be seriously injured when crashing on a climb, but the guy who's trying to keep up is burning a lot of matches. I remember a hill-top finish when Wiggins hit the deck and Hesjedal went all out in order to not lose time. Meanwhile, Wiggins rode to the finish like he was returning home from the corner store and was given the same time. That's effed up.

    For years, the ASO has been looking for creative ways to spice up the TDF. They even resorted to ridiculous NASCAR gimmicks for crying out loud! We finally get some real drama on STAGE 1...storylines which could've set the tone for the next 3 weeks of racing. And the cyclists decide to slow down??? 🐌 Smh.

      Melanie Meyer I agree with you about talents, dirty organizers, and Lance’s tactics to continue to perpetrate the lies. However, drug use was so prevalent in that era that anyone who mattered were taking them, Lance was just better at it. And as fans we should admit that’s when cycling was most exciting. While Marco and Jan were super talented guys, no one displayed the desire to win like Lance, and that’s a hallmark in any great athlete, no matter the sport, drugs or not. Those are the guys we tune in for when we watch professional sports.

In addition we had a German proverb about Jan: „Quäl dich du Sau“ by Udo Bölz. Meaning that Jan should hurt himself trying to win the tour. We all knew he was a bit lazy. It’s all in the past anyway. Let it go. Also: 63% Bjarne destroying Indurain...who was on it’s own the Conconi-Monster. Those times. We must stop this.

      @@pinarellosq2868 Bullshit. He achieved the same level of fitness and skill that the other top riders did but then went on to juice himself up to the point he could destroy the field whenever he choose. He was not like the other riders that used steroids. He was having the roids DELIVERED TO THE TEAM BUS for fuck sake! And then when accused he DESTROYED the lives of those who dared accuse him. He should be in jail..
