I've always felt this version of the song is much more raw and emotional then Skynard's. Listening to this song, I see a long man, sitting on a bar stool with a beaten but loved guitar pouring his soul into his song.
Skynrd's original version of this song is like he's sharing some pearls of wisdom that his mother told him. Shinedown's version feels like his mom tried to share that wisdom, he didn't listen and now regrets that decision because he's damaged some aspect of his life.
Thank you for doing this reaction. This song means the world to me. I was a young, scared single mom in the hospital with this little baby boy in my lap not knowing what to do. I looked out at the full moon and as I rocked him on my lap I sang this to him over and over. My only child will be 26 in a few weeks. We made it. ❤
@@FlorianNovotnyHabitOfNarrative Thank you for that. It means a lot. It's like they say.. you never know how strong you really are until it becomes your only choice.
I'm your sons age, almost 26 as well and my mom used to sing this song to me. When a mother sings this to there son, knowing from personal experience, we feel the genuine love and compassion from you as the mother. It touches our souls, and inserts that bond we once had when we were in your belly. Just by knowing you sang this song your son,. I know you're a great mother and would do anything for him. Be safe and rock on! 🤘
The first time my parents came to see me play in a band, I dedicated this song to them. They had tears in their eyes and dad requested me to play this song often when together. I miss you both terribly. Thank you for this reaction. 2 👍👍 up
My late husband told me Shinedown was his favorite rock band of all time. I didn’t pay attention to them until my hubby left this earth to skin cancer in 2019. When I heard this song I remembered Shinedown on the radio and when Second Chance was on UA-cam I remembered that one too. So I learned everything I could because the talent has been around over 20 years. Brent Smith is my favorite male vocalist by far. Everything the band performs and writes is PERFECTION!!! 💜 Thank you for your reaction and please do more of them. Please react to their newest as well as their older stuff like this one. I wish I would have listened to them while my late husband was still Alive. Sigh 💜 Hugs 💜🙏💜🙏💜🙏
This is the song version I chose for the Mother and Groom dance at my wedding reception. It was very fitting given the ideals infused in me being raised by a single mother. I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd. Happiest I had ever seen her. Great memory and a great song.
Listening to them both track and live I'd say Brent's voice is definitely laser focused. His voice can explode at a moments notice. To me, anyway, it sounds like he has even more control of his voice when it is in the more explosive moments. Not that I am by any means saying his softer singing lacks control. His belts are simply pure divination.
Just saw them lastnight and Brent belts like this for 2 straight hours. You do not the the pure strength of his voice unless you see him. It is intoxicating
I don't think I've ever been more in love with a song or a voice. I can feel the chills running down my back and my heart is just racing with how much excitement I feel and I mean normal excitement not the sexual kind lol. It's better than the original in my opinion, it's just pure perfection 💖
Always happy to see some Shinedown! They are in my top 3 favorite bands of all time, and I agree with the other comments that their live performances are also amazing. Another group in my list is the Finnish band Poets of the Fall. I find their music very unique and the lead singer, Marko Saaresto, has the one of most effortless and smooth baritone voices out there. Think you would find them very enjoyable to listen to. This is is probably the most well known of their songs: ua-cam.com/video/dGwA01vntnc/v-deo.html
The first time I heard this version made me cry and get serious goosebumps! I introduced it to my late husband and he too FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG and played it ALL THE TIME...BACK TO BACK!! It never gets old though. Amazing job!!
I remember hearing Shinedown perform this live for the first time on WAAF (a rock station from Boston) back when Shinedown was first starting out and I will never forget it .. such an amazing rendition
Brent and the guitarist have a side project called Smith & Myers that is totally worth a listen. They do some incredible covers (keep on rocking in the free world, someone like you, rebel yell, and others) and really good originals (mad enough, coast to coast, panic, etc) that show off his range as a singer.
I have been to 2 shinedown concerts. They are a very talented band. This song makes me tear up just the message itself. Add Brents voice live, and it makes me cry. Hes one of my top favorite singers. Amazing voice.
The sort of song and video that together can instantly make you proud and nostalgaic for a place and a people you've never even met. It's true folk song.
Do more of Shinedown. Maybe also Seether, Skillet, Saliva, Three Days Grace... Listen to In Flames maybe or Soulfly and A7X Hear Böhse Onkelz and lot more of Rammstein
So, this song has an odd special meaning to Shinedown. Jason Todd (the guitarist) is married to Melody Van Zant, who's father is Ronny Van Zant. They used to sing this song at Melody's moms bar in Jacksonville, Florida.
Shinedown i saw them anytime i could when they started after i heard Fly from the inside.. but all their songs are amazing- and they are also the nicest band ever. love this
If you want to be blown away by two rock goddesses .. I highly recommend you check out the song Break In by Lzzy Hale featuring Amy Lee .. they sound otherworldly together
They have a really large catalog. They are so incredibly cool!!! Better live. Shinedown in the house is a series of videos shot on a phone at parties in friends houses. They are super.
Check out Colter Wall - Kate McCannon from original 16 session or Cowpoke from Western AF. Travis Meadows - Sideways. Tyler Childers - Nose on the Grindstone.
This is more than just a cover. The Shinedown guitarist, Jasin Todd, is married to Ronnie Van Zant's daughter. The little girl in the video is his daughter holding a picture of her grandpa Ronnie.
Hello from a small island around 150km north of you Ken. Thanks for these great videos. I'm not sure if you have ever watched the show Supernatural which was filmed in the Lower Mainland. One of the two main actors, Jensen Ackles, does an amazing cover of this song. You can find it on UA-cam. Also, did you ever watch David Gilmore perform High Hopes from Pink Floyd's Division Bell album? There are two really great versions in my opinion. One is titled David Gilmour - High Hopes - Live at Robert Wyatt's Meltdown and is more acoustic in style. The other is titled David Gilmour - High Hopes - Remember That Night. Would like to see your reaction to them and what you think about the two different versions.
Hi! Thank you for the video!IWe missed your reaction to Diana Ankudinova. Agreed.. awesome singing.. I must say tho that i miss the more pronounced 'power chords'...Am I making sense at all? This not a song that I feel needed toning down or going acoustic. Especially with his voice.
@@peanut-junder Right. Well, the 'guitar runs' are there, just not as forward as we are used to in the original... you know, when the distortion hits.. For me, the guitar feels a bit drowned out.. Yes I know it's about the lyrics and feeling.. but with this singers awesome pipes, the actual music need to keep up.. and not be a Clapton style acoustic. Get me right, I liked it a lot.. just nitpicking here. :)
