Shinedown "Simple Man" REACTION & ANALYSIS by Vocal Coach / Opera Singer

- Sixteen singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts, and I've never heard of them. Shinedown, one of the most celebrated rock bands of the 2000s, takes on this Lynyrd Skynyrd (who I have heard of) song with such incredible poise and sound, it's hard to imagine it's a cover.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Shinedown for the first time, performing "Simple Man”.

Who else heard her say she's never heard Brent Smith and were like "Yeah, I'm about to watch a life be changed on camera."
Yeah I was expecting something, her genuine response was cathartic.
I’ve always thought this cover was horrendous… not as bad as Disturbeds version of Sound of Silence… but close

Not too many adults have the ability to tap into the child-like joy that great singing brings you. It's fun to watch.
I'd say enjoying great singing isn't childlike joy when it comes to a song like Simple Man which is sung the way it is here. Its more of a release emotionally. This song can make a hardened middle aged man break down in tears if trying to sing it in a way that expresses the emotional aspect of it (with help of bourbon at least). It is one thing to hear it (anyone in the last 60 years from the southeastern U.S. that listens to rock radio has heard it hundreds of times) and something else to sing it with emotion. I think Elizabeth understands that. Although there are times when she expresses giddiness about the recording in her analysis I think Elizabeth makes it clear by her reaction while listening that this recording elicits an emotional response of lament that only adults generally know.
@@ninjareynoldshere here, very well said right there.
@@ninjareynolds i don't think the person commenting about "childlike joy" meant it in the way you interpreted it.
muthafucken ditto
@ninjareynolds Ever seen the movie Knocked Up? When they are talking at Paul's "daughter's" birthday and he says "I wish I loved ANYTHING as much as kids love bubbles."? It is unfortunate, but in my experience true, that most adults don't LET themselves feel the pure, blissful joy that kids feel because they/we are too jaded by growing up and the responsibilities and insecurities that come with it. I was just commenting on the fact that Elizabeth seems to be one of the lucky few that know how to set that aside, truly let herself into the moment, and enjoy the release that the music is giving her instead of having that inner monologue hiding somewhere in the back mumbling about things that most children don't even know exist yet.
Fun fact, Shinedown closes every concert with this song. The amount of energy you get with this song with an entire audience singing along with the band is electric. I believe its captured in one of their live albums.
My mom was the most incredible singer that no one heard. She would only sing to me and my little brother. She used to sing this song to me when I was little and it always made me feel special. She passed away 14 years ago and I played the original at her funeral for my brother and I. When I hear this version, it always brings me to tears... But happy ones. It brings her back to me every time.
That is beautiful. Godspeed to your family and mother
God bless my friend
Wish I had a mom like yours, mine has just torn me down my whole life.
This was me and my mom’s first dance at my wedding but the original.
🙏
When she talked in the beginning about his pent up energy and wanting to see him expel it, and then seeing how giddy she was getting in the start of the song I was like "Oh...she's not ready" lol
Same😂😂
My exact thoughts 😂
Yessss!
😂 so true
Haha, I instantly scrolled for this exact kind of comment
There's just something so beautiful about watching someone who genuinely loves music react to it like she does..

Pent-up geyser is a great analogy. Saw them two nights ago for the third time. Brent doesn’t even need a mic to fill an auditorium. Hands down one of the most incredible voices in music today.
Of any day. Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, Axle Rose, Brent Smith. The voices of lifetimes.
Not only is this the greatest Simple Man cover of all-time, this particular version is one of the best covers of any song ever recorded, period. So good.
It is pretty far up the list... But Johnny Cash's cover of hurt will probably be number one forever.
No, lol. Just no.
Disturbed sound of silence take the win for me. But this one is great. Above comment about Johnny cash is at the top too
@@lesterparker1594 Agree with Disturbed. I also prefer Deftones version of this
@@jdeal_okJohnny cash, aside from the instruments, had one original part in that entire song. At that time, his voice and breath control were shot, too. I think the only reason that song is considered "good" is the story behind him and June. Johnnys personality, connection to the Carter family and ability to tell a story is what made him good. He was a terrible musician/singer.
Played this for my son at his funeral. Forever 20. Forever loved and missed Andrew. 7/23/94-6/2/15. Nothing was ever the same💔

This one and free bird were played at my cousins funeral. Rest in peace Darby Sheldon.
There is a little more of a connection to Skynyrd than just the Jacksonville one. Shinedowns original guitarist, Jasin Todd was married toMelody Van Zant, the daughter of the late, great Ronnie Van Zant, the singer from Skynyrd. Also, Shinedown got their first "big break" by regularly playing a local venue called Freebird Live. That venue was owned by Judy Van Zant, Melody's mother and Ronnie's widow. Shineown used to sing this song as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Incidentally, in this video there is a little girl holding a picture of a man, the man in the picture is Ronnie Van Zant and the little girl is Ronnie's grand-daughter.
Adding to that back story, they did that cover once and never planned to do it again and then at a radio station they were asked to do a cover. They didn’t have any prepared so Barry said let’s do Simple Man. Brent wasn’t sure he’d remember the words. That performance went “viral” and they have been doing it ever since. Judy Van Zant let him live rent free for a year in an apartment so when they recorded this song he set it up so she’d get half the royalties to pay her back. This is from an interview with Brent.
That is crazy
All of this is just right in my feels, y’all. Thank you ❤️
I knew the connection between Melody and Jasin, I just didn’t know the got married. I guess I need to check updates on Wiki more!
Thank for writing this 😄😃😀😊
They took Skynyrd's best song and took it into another dimension. One of the best covers of classic rock ever (along with Disturbed's Sound of Silence and Metallica's Turn the Page).
Turn the page wasn’t Metallica’sZ I believe seiger sang it before them.
@@Gunjack1440that’s why he said “classic rock cover” lol

I totally agree with you!! I love those 3 songs too!
I feel that puddles pity party covered sound of silence very well also
The "you can do this, oh baby, if you try" in the second verse gives me goosebumps every single time 😍😍
the easiest lyric of all time .
Was anyone sitting here listening to her in the first chorus going “It’s like overflowing with energy.” And snickering to yourself knowing that later on in the song he goes even bigger and you’re waiting for her to react to it… no? Just me, okay. 😂
Naw. I did the same thing, only more of a “Oh my god!! STOP it!!! Just listen to it…you’ll get there!!! It’s even better, in a second!”
She did it with Pantera’s “Cemetary Gates”, too.
Same
thought the same thing. Like, oh just you wait lol
absolutely
The constant stops before he really started had me yelling to STOP TALKING AND JUST LISTEN!! lol
I'm oldschool when i heard there was a remake of this song i hated it already. But when i heard this i was sure even ronnie was going DAMN. This is one of the most beautiful renditions of a classic I've ever heard. I stand corrected.
Very few times I listen to a cover and say "ah yes, this is one stands on its own"
I agree. I didn't even want to hear this version. Why would I when the original was brilliant??
But they did an awesome job.
They're both brilliant versions of the song.
Smith and Myers cover of Phill Collins Something In The Air Tonight is also amazing.
I think it is better and I grew up on Skynard. The music is scary good as much as the vocals are. Listen to the original with eyes closed then this version.
@@SeanANolan Think there from the same town ..I think
Brent is easily in my opinion, one of the best voices in music. His range and control is next level. The man can belt
And it's not studio magic either. I saw them live years ago, before I really knew who Shinedown was, when they were opening for 3DoorsDown and they blew me away. Way better than the headliner IMO.
I would love to see a video of Brent's reaction to HER reactions and have him see the pure joy and love she has for his voice. Now she knows how we feel. ❤

I was just thinking the same thing. Professional evaluation or not, to see the joy on her face as she hears great singing is almost as enjoyable as listening to it the first time yourself. Love her.
I did. It turned out to be a frizzy haired walrus with terminal flatulence and a bit of an attitude. I'll keep searching.
For any Shinedown fan, when she heard 5 seconds of his voice & described it PERFECTLY.. THAT 🤌🏼
Never has there been a better discription of Brent's voice. it was like an Ahah! moment. Just knowing how he will explode later in the song and how she picked up on it, within seconds, is just amazing
It was killing me when you kept backing up before the chorus. I just wanted you to hear it. Your reaction once you heard it was spectacular. Seeing them perform this song live is still one of the best performances I've ever witnessed. One of the greatest covers by one of the greatest voices in rock
Reaction edging at its finest XD
I've seen this song live and I can confirm the voice is impeccable 😍
Same here. More emotion live, I think.
This is one of the greatest covers ever recorded. You don’t have to like Shinedown, you don’t have to like the genre but there’s no denying this dude is an incredible singer.
The way she described his voice in the beginning as a pent up geyser was spot on. I was thinking to myself just wait for it, girl. He lets it out.
Best cover ever made hands down
They have a version in one of the guys living rooms. And he’s sitting on a couch singing it and I prefer that one for some reason. I love these guys.
@@matthewcadden1967 While this is indeed awesome, for me, the best cover ever made is Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence. Absolutely epic.

For a hard rock band, Shinedown has been one of the very few bands that have reduced me to tears. Brent has a rare gift for a singer where you feel every single emotion he feels while singing. It's just special
My first intro to shinedown was a few years ago at a concert with Godsmack, Shinedown had tears in my eyes 3 times during their set, became an instant fan
Agreed
45 gets me every time
Another band that pulls the heart strings in the rock genre is "Nothing More", with songs like "Jenny", "Fade in/Fade out", and "God Went North"... it will have you in tears real quick.
I think Brent has legendary pipes but ib think his song list is rather short and disappointing. They just don't have many hit songs and staying power. Ib think i know more songs by 3 Doors Down than Shinedown. If think he wasted most of his career with lousy songwriters.
Brent Smith has one of the most incredible singing voices I've ever heard. No matter how much I try to emulate it it's just impossible, insane one of a kind talent.
Did you notice that after all that energy, he ends the song on the empty breath? He let it all go and there’s literally nothing left. Brent is amazing.
My brother tattoos on them and they've literally flown us out to shows so we could hangout while my brother worked on them. Literally grew up with these guys and they truly are amazing.
Until the autotune gives out... Saw them in Doornroosje in Nijmegen a couple years ago, was relatively dissapointed in the show and in the live performance...
Saw them at Sturgis in 2015 and was not at all disappointed. Maybe an off night?
Simple Man has been my favorite song since I was a child. First Skynryd and then Shinedown’s version. They opened for Skynryd and I got to see both bands sing it. I’m not a crier…. I sobbed like a teenage girl at a One Direction concert. Bucket list for sure. It was amazing.
@@jessicaqueer9473 could be, my buddy opened for them that night and once I got around to how the singing was live he told me the autotune on the board had died and Brent had to be on point. He wasn't. Still enjoy their album work though.
I am also a tattoo artist. I do not have a famous, awesome band that flies me to shows. LoL. Career goals.
@@Voldrani lol Also a tattoo artist… can we be issued a famous band to tattoo exclusively? My clients are amazing but they don’t fly me anywhere.
Once I saw them in Tulsa, OK and his grandmother had just died, so he got the whole crowd outside in the dark to look at the stars and chant her name while he belted out this song. People were crying all around. It was beautiful.
Wow. Amazing 😭
Oh, my. What a beautiful tribute. 🥺
I have just witnessed an eargasm in visual form. The pure joy and immersion you feel while watching the song. Brent wins another one. I went to see them live and it was amazing. The energy they can bring to the stage is like no other show. The girl I was seeing at the time reacted the same way. I am man enough to admit I got a little bit jealous. To that end, I tried to teach myself to do Shinedown songs to sing to her. The only one I think I truly *hit* right is 'If you only knew'. But I love this one too.
When they played this live, i dont think there was a dry eye in the house. Never going to forget it
'Call Me' is the ultimate Shinedown vocal song. My entire family attempts to belt it out every road trip.
Call Me is one of my absolute all time favorite songs, absolutely incredible!
Someone else that knows that fantastic song.
This song is the best. It is so amazing.
Love that one!
Elizabeth does a review of that song on this channel. Great song!
It doesn't matter if it's Skynrd or Shinedown. These lyrics just hit home.
Except for Brent changing the lyrics and thus changing the meaning of the song.
@@dquaidman what lyrics did he change?
@@jessecrockett8127 He changed "all I want for you my son is to be satisfied" to "all I want from you my son is to be satisfied". So instead of wanting a good life for her son, she wanted her son to make her life better. It changes the whole dynamic of the song.
@@dquaidmanmaybe, I think it could also be interpreted as "all I was from you my son [is for you to be satisfied]"
Because the same meaning can be implied with both versions.
Although it would be neat if they deliberately changed the entire meaning of the song with one word
@@jessecrockett8127 I'm just going by how it's sung. He should have left it as written unless he's got some strange reason not to. Unless, of course, he doesn't know the difference between "for" and "from", which is entirely possible.
The way Brent sings is something he was born with. Yes, people can take lessons and get better but 99% of the planet could never sing like him with a lifetime of coaching/practice.
Those of us who are truly moved by music are SO lucky!! There’s nothing like being moved to tears or getting goosebumps from listening to a song

The energy from this song is magical. Nothing but goosebumps while making you really emotional
The only band that could ever hold a light to Skynyrd. He has such a great cross between grungy rock and a southern womans choir on a Sunday. You can literally feel it when he changes pitches and tones.
He’s amazing live, close your eyes and you can’t tell if it’s studio or live. Was lucky to see them and Halestorm together
Yes!
Seen the same duo. I try to watch every shinedown show within 4 hours of Houston
I saw them in Houston too Carnival of Madness tour
I saw them and Halestorm but he was too messed to even sing, it was sad. Glad he got clean.
I watched Halestorm(who I met and hung with after the show) and Flyleaf open for Seether and Shinedown in 2005. Killer fucking show, he did this and dedicated it to Dimebag Darrell. Perfection.
In high school, "Call Me" by Shinedown was a song me and friends randomly learned and would always sing together in the car. Very good song.
I remember sitting in my tent the first night i was homeless when i was 16 and just listened to that song and what a shame as well and just cried when the realization of my situation kicked in, but the music helped calm me. Shinedown is something else and will always be a part of my life so long as i have ears to hear with.
One of the most powerful emotional singers of all time and WITHOUT A DOUBT the greatest version of this song ever recorded.
Thank you for this analysis of Brent’s voice, I have always thought his voice was very technical, and absolutely amazing the way he sang that song! Lynyrd Skynyrd should be honored that he took it to the next level! Love what you do, keep it up!
How can you not love Shinedown. Brent Smith's voice is unbelievable. He sounds just as good live. He is legit.
You passion and excitement for what the artists do with their vocals is so contagious.

Perfectly said
The first time I heard this version I got the chills and cried. My mother has told me throughout my life to be a simple man. Essentially quoting these lyrics to me. And that’s all I try to be.
This version of this song was the one my mother and I danced to at my wedding. We had talked about it well beforehand and she had suffered TBI in the time between our discussion and the actual wedding. It will always hit home for me. Fantastically done.
It was my mother-son dance at my wedding also!!
To really get to know Shinedown you need to listen to "The Crow & The Butterfly" and "How Did You Love"
I LOVE The Crow & The Butterfly
Omg, How Did You Love is an excellent choice!!
How Did You Love is my favourite song of Brent's vocally. So goood!
"If You Only Knew" is another Excellent Vocal performance for Brent. The fact he wrote it about his Kid probably helped.
"Brent"... not Brett. 'Brett' is the lead singer of "Poison"
Not to mention that it wasn't just for his kid, but to honor how his kid motivated his sobriety is amazing! Such amazing song writers!
I'm not sure where I heard it, whether live interview or youtube, but Brent talked about spending hours upon hours in his garage as a child till he perfected every note. Not only can that be heard through shinedowns music, but I believe that is where the inspiration for the second chance music video came from, which is another great song!!
Second chance is amazing, to be fair I've not disliked any shinedown song, or Brent's other stuff.. the man CAN sing
saw an interview with him where he said they literally recorded it in 3 takes...BOOM, done. Amazing singer, amazing man, amazing human being
You felt exactly like I did when he sings "It'll help help you." The slightest drop in pitch & tiny break in his voice literally made my brows pull down and inward with pure emotion. It was a mix of compassion and nostalgia... and almost had a pleading tone to it... so much heart and soul! I could listen to his voice 24/7! 🤘🏼🥰
Elizabeth, the way your eyes flutter... for us Shinedown fans of 18 years... it's like watching our 18-year old son getting married to the wife of his dreams.

brent is one of the best singers in rock right now, and his voice has just gotten better and better through the years. shinedowns acoustic show in kansas city is a prime example of how outstanding he's become
We saw the Springfield stop of that same tour! Even though we listen to the KC show on the disc double set, it's a carbon copy of the SGF show, so it's like being there all over again!
We saw Smith & Myers in Omaha in May...holy heck. One of the best shows I have seen!
Imo Brent Smith, Adam Gontier and Corey Tayler are top 3# singers.
Seeing shinedown as a teenager in 2008 was a jaw dropping experience. Brent just feeds off an audience so well. Gotta see them live again soon
Saw them in 2006 open for Godsmack and Rob Zombie I was 16 such a killer lineup
The joy on her face the surprise and just the happiness that she gets from seeing/hearing these singers she hasn't heard before is like watching a kid come down on Christmas to the surprise that Santa has visited
So if you like this vocal range you should listen to 45 “acoustic” by shinedown

Definitely a powerful song! You can feel the emotion! I hope you review it!
The studio version is great, but the acoustic version is by far the more powerful!
Yes. Such a good acoustic song!
Brent is such a powerhouse. He's so underrated I feel. They're popular but not nearly as popular as they should be. I can't wait for you to do more of them.
They're also absolutely incredible in concert. The way he takes control of the crowd and nails song after song is amazing.
The singer and guitarist also did an acoustic cover album called Smith and Meyers and it's so good
Agreed. The dudes voice is phenomenal.
I love Smith and Myers... it's just so freaking *pure*
I remember one time seeing them at an outdoor concert and he did this whole thing getting the crowd amped up. Like easily monologuing for 10 minutes. Came down into the crowd and everything. Not a lot of rock performers have crowd skill like that anymore.
He even came right by my seat and even though security shooed me away I managed to get a fist bump from Brent. #worthit
Amen, well said. I love their love shows. They are honestly my favorite band to see live, and I have seen many. Brent could sing the phone book and I would want to make a call.
His voice really is an incredible instrument. Truly. I can listen to him sing anything. Enchanting Is a great way to put it.
Brent Smith has the best singing voice today... not just rock but best tone, vocals, sound......
He is just a Beautiful VOICE and person....love him
This is nothing compared to his live singing. I’ve seen them four times and each time it was incredible. Absolutely incredible.
Dude sung this song for 15 minutes at the end of his show when we went to see him. Amazing.
Here's a fact for ya, He covered this song and dedicated it to "Dimebag Darrell". There is a live version of this where he explains it to the crowd and that is why we get so much emotion from him in this song! You can feel his pain and loss!
I love that you are giving words and descriptions to the things we feel and experience through vocals. So many things I don't have the terminology to point out, but its beautiful, and you laser in and explain them!
World’s most CHARMING UA-camr
“The crow and the butterfly”
His voice is 🤤
This is my favorite song by them!
45 is also an incredible song
"Save Me" is another great early Shinedown song that shows off his voice-- a beautiful song about addiction and redemption
The interpretation of that song is indeed absolutely stunning. The singer is such a worldclass talent. Good choice and well explained. Thank you!
LOVED her reaction! Funny... that's how millions of us feel about his voice as well! 😍💕 Brent is Amazing! Looks like Shinedown has another fan snared by the voice...
Things I learned from this video:
1: if I want to impress and cause Miss Elizabeth to fall absolutely head over heels in love with me, I need to learn to sing like Brent.
2: Nothing else.
🤣🤣🤣
Or eddie vedder
Totally doable, right? No, not at all. Brent has a majestic voice.
Both facts.
I've said since the day this cover came out that this is how Simple Man was meant to be. The amount of vocal emotion and energy behind this version fits the lyrics and the tone of the song in an amazing synergy. It's ridiculous. The range once he lets his voice bloom and the control of the tones and shaping is entrancing and endearing.
Same with "Hurt" when it was covered by Johnny Cash
I cannot really agree. Though Brent is a great singer he shows it a bit to much here. Maybe it is because I am a guitarist but to me the focus is a bit to much on the vocals and the way he lengthens "simple" and "man" in the refrain is exaggerated. I think the truth would be somewhere between the original and this cover. It is definetly not that clear like "Hurt" sung by Cash which was dedicated to him by Reznor later.
This is a fantastic cover, I can't deny. I love it. But, I don't think I can agree with the comment "this is how Simple Man was meant to be. To me, it will always be Ronnie Van Zant's song. He wrote it with Gary Rossington after his (Ronnie's) grandmother died. It is the third most popular song in the Skynard catalog for a reason.
Great cover but hard to beat Ronnie Van Zant and the boys. There are a few original live versions from Skynyrd that are phenomenal!
Gotta disagree. I like Shinedown's songs, they brought nothing to this song but a louder version. Skynyrd knew when to play it softly and deliver the emotion. I cant even tell if Shinedown heard the Skynyrd version, they just made it noisier.
For comparison. the crappy remake of 'I will always love you' of Dolly Partons' classic by Whitney Houston. Another louder version of a classic that brought nothing new to the table but more noise. Again, Dolly knew when (and how) to soften the vocals and really deliver the emotion she was feeling....Whitney just sang loud, and less loud.
I already know 95% will disagree with me, probably on both points. I urge you to listen to both originals, then the imposters. Perhaps you can understand what i am trying to point out.
This song always gets me - I love the original, but this cover.... gets me in the feels. First time I heard it was live in concert, the sun had just come out from a gloomy, rainy day, and my heart was hurting for my son who was struggling a little at that time. He was our only living son (several pregnancy losses plus a premature birth that ended with our younger son's death). I had chosen by this point to have my tubes tied because I just couldn't deal with any ore pregnancy losses, so our firstborn was our only son. And then I went to a concert where Shinedown opened for the main band (Judas Priest, maybe?). They started this song, and it was just me listening to his voice. SO POWERFUL!
This was mine and my son’s song that we danced together to at his wedding for the ‘mother/son’ dance. Shinedown’s Simple Man has been the song I have shared with him every year on his birthday since he was young. It was a dream and so surreal to dance with him to it at his wedding. It was perfection. Always brings tears to my eyes every time I have heard it since the first time forever ago🤍
This is more than just a cover. The Shinedown guitarist, Jasin Todd, is married to Ronnie Van Zant's daughter. The little girl in the video is his daughter holding a picture of her grandpa Ronnie.
I didn't know that, that's a great fact!
Brent Smith does "not strong enough" as guest vocalist for apocalyptica. Not shinedown proper, but definitely a stand out vocal performance for him.
This song also everything they touch is amazing.
Not Strong Enough is one of Brent's best vocals.
100%
Love love LOVE that song! I listened to it on repeat for daysssss!
@@nicholeginsberg9704 Definately. I got shivers every time I have a mood to listen to it. I think Brent is one of the best vocalists who can package his feelings and true emotions into songs that he sings. You can really feel this in his voice just like in Simple Man.
I LOVE that you feel his voice the way I do. You describe all of the characteristics beautifully! I really enjoyed watching your face as you felt his emotions. Chills! Brent Smith has the best voice I have ever heard and my absolute favorite voice (that I didn’t birth). Welcome to Shinedown Nation!
"I'll follow you", " Miracle"...live acoustic. They do not disappoint live, seen them twice..once full show, once acoustic
Saw them with Godsmack. Awesome show.
I never miss a concert as long as they are in driving distance. They are awesome live. I watched them with Godsmack also. Great show
"I could become obsessed with this sound, woah"
I felt that.
The moment she joined the family
Loved this reaction! Brent Smith is an incredible vocalist! Definitely worth the eargasm you had. Truely enjoyed your appreciation of this song.
I want to leave an unfiltered comment on your reactions, but I'm sure it would sound critical instead of complimentary. But I do love your excitement, especially how you are geeking out on all the details and nuances. You do have an amazing talent pointing them out and describing them verbally, and your facial expressions just add to the whole description. I'm starting to see a whole new level of details that I've never appreciated or noticed before. Now I'm geeking out. It's really fun!
I love both versions of this song, the same way I love Disturbed Sound of Silence and its original version. They are the same, yet soo different. It elevates these great songs to Legendary status. So much fun
I’m amazed no one ever does second chance, people act like this was there one hit that shows the power in his voice
Ronnie van zante and skynyrd will blow you away
Thank you for what you do, everyone seems to do reactions to (you name the topic), and more often than not I find myself skipping the commentary to just watch the subject video because the host brings nothing or even less to the video.
Watching you light up, express, and react is as wonderful to see as the music is to hear. Further more, you distinguish in language what you are hearing in a way that allows me to peer deeper into the music than I ever have or otherwise could. You open up worlds, and your videos remind me of music I forgot i love. Than you so much
I have seen them live twice and I will go everytime they're here. When he sings Simple Man there it's just chills.
People who understand mastery of a craft always react with laughter when they experience it. I love that shit...seeing someone who fully understands whats going on be so blown away by the talent of what they're seeing/listening to that you just have to laugh at the absurdity of it.
Brent Smith in apocalyptica's "Not Strong Enough" will absolutely break you. You NEED to hear that one
Yes omg he’s so amazing in that one, like all the songs he does
Oh yes!!!
don't forget about "For my sake" one of my favorites)
Love that song 😍
This particular version of this song hits me in the heart every time. His voice sounds like the longing of the heart to me - the sustained long vowels, the steady pitch, and just the emotion of it - and it’s truly enchanting.
Your unbridled joy is infectious! Amazing song and really lets me appreciate a song i already love even more!
Yeah, that's just Brent Smith's voice. He feels like a beast kept on check. His voice is straight power and emotion. Listen to ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING by him.
Danced with my mother to this version at my wedding. The guitarist in the wedding band that we hired sounded exactly like this. Dude played a nylon acoustic and sung his heart out. R.I.P Mom.
I also danced with my mom to the acoustic version of this song at my wedding day. :)

I adore your reactions. Not only do you truly understand what you’re listening to, but your emotional reactions are pure Joy! I’m so impressed with you as a human being. Thank you for being so honest and true to your art. ❤
I will be seeing Shinedown for the first time on Saturday and I cannot wait! Absolutely love Brent's voice. One of my favorite vocalists.
