im a mosquito pilot. you guys have it way rough. :) at distance, its not always easy to tell a mosquito from a reaver. but NO ONE can mistake a scythe for anything but a scythe.
+Vasich lolcode You too! I thought I was the only one that apparently showed up on a continent wide alert every time i LOOKED at an aircraft terminal. I have to run Stealth 3 to get off the damn pad sometimes.
Two things that did wonders for my Mossie skills: - Ironfist's video's - Nano auto repair The latter came as a surprise even for me (most people use composite armor in that slot) but the ability to auto heal does wonders for keeping you in the air and drastically improved my K/D ratio. You don't need to repair/be engineer anymore which means you can use the LA class now to bail out safely. The lack of repair points is compensated by the increased killing time and you will also fly more safely.
I can't do it nearly as well as Wrel can. Try to bank sideways (so one wing is pointing at the ground and the other to the sky) and then point your nose down while holding S to keep you speed down. From there, hold space and you will will be moving upwards with your tail as the highest part. From there, you can try to continue to keep that backwards momentum as you angle yourself to where you want to go. Once the Training area comes out on Wednesday, you should have an easier time.
When i reverse maneuver in the Scythe while flying with speed, i usually hold S while pitching down and looking for the white stripes that are left behind from your aircraft. When they disappear i push the afterburner and it works pretty much all the time. In other ESF's i just look for the engine thingys pointing down
When the VR is done, you can test whatever you want without buying anything! And pull unlimited vehicles, so maybe new flying techniques can be learned too.
an interseting tactic could be to wait on the ground, between trees, and when an enemy aircraft comes by, you just pop up from nowhere. That would probably work well on Hossin
you don't need to hold down the "S" key if you set the keybinding to Thrust Analog instead. It essentially does the same thing, except at a much faster rate and you don't need to worry about holding the key so you can be focusing on other movement. This will save your life with little or no adjustments to get used to.
Patch has been delayed a couple of days. But it's going to add a Virtual Training area, where you can access any gun or vehicle to practice with, without negatively affecting your stats.
The effects of this maneuver are much greater if you slow down to hover, bank, then hold down A S Afterburner spacebar, and drag down with your mouse, this will basically catapult you backwards, which is really good for circling tower fights
This will probably help a lot with my flying. one moment in particular I remember is crashing into reagent rock garrison flying a mosquito at about 10 kph, exploding, killing a teammate, and didn't even succed in killing the one VS guy I was aiming for at the time.
Difficult to aim against airborne targets as the projectile speed is slower than Rocket Pods, if I'm not mistaken. Infantry can take about 4 hits AoE before dying, but infantry killing is definitely where the PPA does the most good. I use a build with PPA and Rocket Pods, so that I can switch off while they're reloading.
well, i don't fly at all...i crash. Whenever i'm playing with teammates i'm like: "hold on guys, i'll just hop into my reaver and provide fire support by randomly crashing somewhere"
For anyone having a hard time doing this just draw an upside down "L" as the first step. When you feel comfortable turning the aircraft this way then just hold down "S" and the "Space bar" while drawing the "L" Remember the first stroke on the "L" is just to turn the aircraft perpendicular to the ground and the second stroke is to actually turn the craft.
A rather late reply, but I’d appreciate it if you could elaborate on this. Where is the pilot starting when drawing the hypothetical “L”, on the vertical tip or the broad horizontal section?
4:21 This is called energy retention. How the aircraft retains its energy, which in this case is speed. This means that the Reaver has worse energy retention than a Scythe. Not trying to be a smart-a*s, just constructive criticism.
Best for *circle* dogfighting(basically in every dogfight) is definitely the Reaver ESF with the vertical thrusts/hover + plus the high damage vortek. That's where it matters really. It's no coincidence that the world's high scoring PS2 pilots are Reaver pilots. :( So much for VS/TR...they aren't bad but surely not the average best.
Saw that, actually. It's what inspired me trying (and failing) at 3:35. I know you're already using it as a video response for Ironfist's video, but if you have any others good ones you'd like to post as a response here for the folks here to see, feel free.
Strange, I can't seem to replicate this manouver. I wait for gravity to catch me, slow my speed down, my thrusters face downwards, I hold S key, I initiate a boost or a thrust, yet I still only fly forward o.O
I suck at flying, my main factions the NC and i practice in the VR training room with a reaver and i take it low to where i wont hit branches, but the trunks. 30 min of flying very low to the ground made me get used to the reaver, but also how to shake off any other ESF's if im in the forest areas of indar and amerish. I wonder how the new continent is going to be with flying. I think its going to be nearly impossible for air to ground but more of air to air since its a swamp continent. :)
Has this been patched out? Cos I don't really feel like I've been able to pull off this maneuver. I think I pulled it off once but usually I end up going forward.
I cant replicate this at all and its very frustrating, im obviously doing something wrong I just cant figure out what, I never end up moving backwards when I turn around - im even using the throttle keybinding
one thing i recommend in practicing this move, is to start from an upside down position and do a flat downward roll into it. the change in momentum is more noticable when you have an even plane of view to reference
HELP! I play Planetside 2 on the PS4. The default joystick control in counter intuitive: When you tilt the joystick backward, you actually go down... It should be when you joystick back, the nose of the airship tilts back, forcing the airship to go up. How do I invert my joysticks?
Reload Dude, I had the exact same prob! I'm a great pilot in GTAV, but I couldn't get a hang of the inverted sticks in PS2. If you go to the option menu, there's a control option that says something like "invert flight vertical axis" (it should be either above or below the normal/infantry vertical invert option) and you have to turn that on (it's not a control scheme like I first thought when I looked through the menu). Not sure why they made the pitch an unusual setting by default!
People had trouble with this? I accidentally discovered this while just flying around. I was doing this when I first started playing 5 years ago. Somehow, I still suck at fighting though and have enemy ESFs flying circles around me, peppering me to death. I end up spinning in circles trying to track them but can never get them on screen.
In your description you say liberators can do this as well if they have the afterburner equipped. Actually, the lib afterburner always faces backward, giving you forward thrust if you use them in any circumstance. So yes, liberators can, if ineffectively, use the reverse manoeuvre, but the afterburners are completely useless and even counter-productive.
In the next patch which should be coming out this week, there will be a training area implemented. Look up "Planetside 2 Training area" and you should able to find out about it. I'll also have an overview of the update the day it comes out on my youtube channel.
I think you can manage with just a trial since the attachments aren't too complicated on this one. I've been asked to do a review of it too on my channel, so if you want to do a kind of double review on it together, let me know.
I can't seem to pull this off and it's so annoying! Everytime I slow down enough and press the spacebar I end up going up and forward instead of backwards. I always see other pilots be able to do it tho. 😠😣
Frantic hand movements ? What about using a mouse with a "dpi setting" button (mine is 500/1000) and increasing the mouse sensitivity ? This way, you can use the high dpi to move around, and the low dpi to accurately aim. Just my thought... and another button to use :p
Would you be able to tell me where to find the air brake in the key bindings? I've looked and either I'm blind or it's not there. I have the S key mapped to something else, hence the default will not work for me, and I'd really hate to restore defaults just to get the S key air brake back.
Uh.... There is an option ingame (with no defualt key) for "Analog Throttle" using this slows you down faster than pressing and holding the S key, and you hover better while in "Analog Throttle". From here you simply press the Space Bar while turning your screen and whalla! Your reverse manuevering. You can do this in a Liberator even, but the effect is not worth it since its slow as fuck.
It is impossible. Is clamped S to slow down but when I press space bar then no reverse. Accelerates and flat on the ground ..Can a mosquito is not fit for such maneuvers? And what better to put on the optimization of the engine?I'm sorry for bad English
Hi, is the Mossie's anti personnel gun any comparison to the scythe's? I got it and always found it lacking too much both in accuracy and hitbox. Am I just bad with it or is it that bad? Also is it in any way possible to still do the reverse maneuver?
You're talking about the Banshee vs the Light PPA. The banshee has a bit larger Cone of Fire, and also has bloom which I don't think the PPA does. (So you should burst fire it not just automatic.) The banshee also has a smaller explosion radius: 2 meter vs 4 meter for the PPA. In return the Banshee has a MUCH fire faster rate 800rpm vs 200 and travels faster 500m/s vs 300. So they both have drawbacks, and neither is a common choice just because they're so bad against other ESFs. (Same with the Reaver's AirHammer.) But they're cheap and occasionally fun to grab. And yes the reverse still works. There were dev plans to nerf it for a while but they decided not to.
Wrel As of game update on 9th of April max level hover airframe negates vertical descent completely. You are most probably aware of this, but wanted to point it out. Maybe update the desc if you see it relevant.
The only times I've ever been able to do this is by accident. I've seen loads of videos of people doing this but whether I can do it when I need to seems to be complete random. I really want to be able to do this on a whim, as dogfights in this game suck. They just copy whatever you do and you both end up in the same places unless an ally comes to help...
I'm still trying to do this but using the afterburner or spacebar make me go forwards. Doesn't seem to matter how slow i'm going. I'll keep trying to figure it out.
I've seen people doing this in a dogfight, they slow down for 1 second, tilt the aircraft a little and at half their max speed they suddenly fly backwards in a straight line. But when I try this, I need to come to almost a complete stop, tilt the aircraft 90°, pitch the nose down and activate my thrusters. With this manoeuvre I hang still in the air for 3 seconds. Nor really usefull. Not to mention when I finally go backwards it's usually an out of control spin towards the ground =/
/watch?v=J56LjnVyYRQ This wasn't me, it is a youtube named Quadron TV, and I take no credit in this video; I just thought that this video was a great example of the reverse manuever in use.

i wish someone would show more backwards flight during dogfights (escaping someone) i can fly backwards, but 9 times out of 10 the enemy will just slow down and follow me, still fully capable of killing me

everytime i get in a scythe i feel like the whole server gets an alert to get me out of the sky as fast as possible.
lol, same here. Doesnt matter where i spawn an ESF, theres always a swarm of BR100 pilots nearby.
im a mosquito pilot. you guys have it way rough. :) at distance, its not always easy to tell a mosquito from a reaver. but NO ONE can mistake a scythe for anything but a scythe.

you actually only need to be using a small amount of Yah (a or d) and roll+pitch to use the manuver but to get into it you need to use aur brakes (s)
"I'm not a good pilot..."
OMG you're amazing... I just crash right away xD
well, i don't fly at all...i crash. Whenever i'm playing with teammates i'm like: "hold on guys, i'll just hop into my reaver and provide fire support by randomly crashing somewhere"

Currently using Dogfighting Rank 1 on my Reaver, Hover Rank 1 on my Scythe, and nothing on my Mossy.
Perfect way to cheese and just mess with new pilots
When you were doing the maneuver your 3 engines was on.It was on 1:46.How did you do that? Please let me know
Not sure if this was still relevant, but I'm guessing he was using spacebar as well as afterburner. Not sure if that answers the question
Yeah it was a long time ago and i was stupid :D
Strange, I can't seem to replicate this manouver.
I wait for gravity to catch me, slow my speed down, my thrusters face downwards, I hold S key, I initiate a boost or a thrust, yet I still only fly forward o.O
Racer gives a nice bonus to your afterburners, afterburners help a great deal in this maneuver.
Max out flak armour. And fly high when taking flak damage to get out of range. Then land at a safe spot and repair if your an engineer.
Actually, I think the secret is that you have to use your mouse to move down while also pressing S key... at least I move somewhat backwards.
This could save me. Thanks a ton for the tips.
It's called the 'Light PPA', it shoots explosive orbs and costs 100 certs. Wrel uses it at 2:54
Pump shotgun review!
Has this been patched out? Cos I don't really feel like I've been able to pull off this maneuver. I think I pulled it off once but usually I end up going forward.

Larger hit box. That's the PPA anti infantry weapon. Bigger hit box compensates for the painfully slow projectile speed.

Put the setting to invert
i changed in settings.. to inverted..
Do you use a joystick? I can't maneuver that well using my mouse.
Your flying mouse sensitivity is off.
Omg thankyou for the first time i did it, also what is up about the training thing?

Great video, and very clear. Much appreciated!
Can this be done with a Libby?
"I kinda just flounder around..." That's me right there haha
wow. i will definitly spend some time in the upcomming VR to learn this. THANKS!
I've seen some people use reverse manuever like flying backward so long.... how do they flying backwards by reverse manuever that long?...
Man your intros scare me because you sound just like my Latin teacher at online school! :)
I can't seem to pull this off and it's so annoying! Everytime I slow down enough and press the spacebar I end up going up and forward instead of backwards. I always see other pilots be able to do it tho. 😠😣
Eun Sik Park use the throttle key
The 3 engines was under scyte. And sorry about time in the video it was 1:45 :D
How to turn fast? There was mosquito which was turning insanely fast couldnot even see him :( and coulnot escape/ to get him on sight
The VR training is coming soon, friend.
This is really helpful.
Frantic hand movements ? What about using a mouse with a "dpi setting" button (mine is 500/1000) and increasing the mouse sensitivity ? This way, you can use the high dpi to move around, and the low dpi to accurately aim. Just my thought... and another button to use :p
'light ppa' would be the Vanu equivalent - not quite the same though, but still efficient and with better range
Good tip, thanks for sharing.
Would you be able to tell me where to find the air brake in the key bindings? I've looked and either I'm blind or it's not there. I have the S key mapped to something else, hence the default will not work for me, and I'd really hate to restore defaults just to get the S key air brake back.
It's not called air brake in the keybindings settings. Look for "Throttle Down".
The thing that scares me about this video is that everywhere in this video I was just fighting in
Not a very good pilot at all? You're like way better than me! That would probably explain why I get killed so much in the sky
Uh.... There is an option ingame (with no defualt key) for "Analog Throttle" using this slows you down faster than pressing and holding the S key, and you hover better while in "Analog Throttle". From here you simply press the Space Bar while turning your screen and whalla! Your reverse manuevering. You can do this in a Liberator even, but the effect is not worth it since its slow as fuck.
you can fly backwards non stop all day long
i broke it down in the worst tutorial of the year on my channel
good luck in the air wrel
It is impossible. Is clamped S to slow down but when I press space bar then no reverse. Accelerates and flat on the ground ..Can a mosquito is not fit for such maneuvers? And what better to put on the optimization of the engine?I'm sorry for bad English
can you do this on ps4?
God the projectiles on the scythe are so friggen huge! Is it the particle effects or do they actually have a larger hit box?
I assume you’re talking about the Light PPA? It’s a scythe weapon that shoots big, slow, explodey AI orbs. Each faction has something similar.
Hi, is the Mossie's anti personnel gun any comparison to the scythe's? I got it and always found it lacking too much both in accuracy and hitbox. Am I just bad with it or is it that bad?

can you make video about banking turn???
Wrel As of game update on 9th of April max level hover airframe negates vertical descent completely. You are most probably aware of this, but wanted to point it out. Maybe update the desc if you see it relevant.

They just copy whatever you do and you both end up in the same places unless an ally comes to help...
Nah, just the mouse... and frantic hand movements.
So basically circle strafing in a chopper in say Battlefield games?
iphoneboi123 Similar effect, different technique
Hi:D can you do a review on the ESF's primary weapons?
wrel are you playing on waterson?
Can you help.. is it just me being bad or has this been changed recently?
I cant seem to do this...
I'm still trying to do this but using the afterburner or spacebar make me go forwards. Doesn't seem to matter how slow i'm going. I'll keep trying to figure it out.
Level 2 Air maneuvers: Try to roadkill someone while flying backwards.
One time I did this maneuver in an Amerish dogfight. Learn from my mistake, don't drift backwards when there is a mountain behind you.
Deceptively simple! Thanks!
For some reason i just cant do it
i really dont get it
/watch?v=J56LjnVyYRQ
This wasn't me, it is a youtube named Quadron TV, and I take no credit in this video; I just thought that this video was a great example of the reverse manuever in use.
you can also do it in ps4, tbh it's easier on ps4
Sgt. Major Caboose How?
I can do it only using SPACE and the MOUSE, I use maxed out sensitivity on my mouse
This is an obviously late reply, but if you can elaborate on this method, I’d appreciate it. :)
Check out Koolaid's review of them on his channel (His username is TheKoolaidLine), but take what he said about another pump action shotgun being released in the near future with a grain of salt, because as far as I know he based that on some datamined info and it may be wrong.
His other videos are really good too. His and Wrel's are the only two channels I subscribed to for PS2 goodies. :)
Thanks
0:33 "DOH!" lol
why does your screen turn green
starcrafter its a special sight upgrade for the main gun, i think its thermal scope
k thanks
is this patched out since?
it's not a bug, it's a gameplay mechanic :D (that has not been deleted)
You're correct :'(
i wish someone would show more backwards flight during dogfights (escaping someone) i can fly backwards, but 9 times out of 10 the enemy will just slow down and follow me, still fully capable of killing me
Money is tight right now :'(
man I suck at any flying besides dogfighting
FINALLY
I have always done this... lol Didn't even know back then that it was so special.
Ejection Seat cert. :D
Nanites
im a great pilot and it involves maybe 1% of footage shown in this video, the other 99% I cant tell you about, because I don't need anymore competition, and there is about 5 easy things you can do to put you on my level, unfortunately for you, youll have to figure it out on your own, don't worry though, its simple to figure out
I would think that with the state of air combat being what it is and Planetside 2 being a competitive game, you'd want to have more competition. Being exclusionary doesn't improve the game for anyone, including yourself.
Zerky ydodistomeh Ejector seat
Why wont you allow us to change it to mouse yaw instead of this stupid mouse roll bullshit?
I'm not an experienced pilot, but your flying style is too curvy I think...
far far worse bro to most urEPICC
