I saw this comment and immediately was gonna tell you listen to Jasmine Sullivan, and since the two prior comments told you to do so, then you definitely should lol
I SAID THE SAME THING... I've listened to this MULTIPLE times and I just put headphones in for the first time.. I literally had to pause during the first song to make sure this isn't a different video... the arrangements are BEAUTIFUL
There have only been a few back up singers on Tiny Desk that were beyond excellence. These back up singers are among the top 3, Jasmine Sullivan back up singers, too.
In all my years of listening to music… this is possibly the most perfect performance in synergy with incredible writing… listening to this is almost an experience that I have to “Get over”… I’m a musician, but when I listen to this I become a listener, something that rarely happens to me - utterly magical, a magical cure for every pain you didn’t know you had locked away. Thank you
thanks Rob for taking the lead in paying tribute to a fellow musician, to a work and a word that transcends all our lives. appreciate your craft Sir, and Yebba's
I love this comment so much, and I love this for you. musicians don’t often get the experience of an average listener because of their ear being so acute to sound. I just know watching this Yebba is special and you put it into great words here. the performance is absolutely perfect.
Agreed - this is an entire five-course meal at a Michelin star restaurant for one's ears... The chord progression... 🤯 The choices!!! 🤯 I don't know if it's the composition or the execution that shook me more - probably both... I cannot stop singing!!! "We don't have to run so far..." * runs past all of us * "Sending my love all over you" - yes please and thank you. 🎶
Wow she is incredible! I’ve listened like a hundred times for every different instrument & part and each one of the background singers is unbelievable Unbelievable as individual singers, and unbelievable in how incredibly tightly they worked together to make 4 voices carve riffs like that in perfect time & tone
I can’t stop listening to Stand. “Turning my transgressions into gold” and the harmony that follows 😭 Perfection. And the ‘run so hard’ + ‘way we are’ harmonies😭
Fantasia’s soul + Jazmine’s smokiness + Tori Kelly’s ability to riff and run like melting butter - somehow it’s all packaged into one bellowing, freakishly smooth, and controlled voice. Yebba, you do what needs to be done 🙌🏻 🔥
She has one of the best voices in the industry and she’s definitely a legend in the making ❤️ Give this woman credit where it’s due 😤❤️ ALSO THE BACKGROUND VOCALISTS!!!
The musical arrangements are soooooo on point. Its like Bob Ross painting...when you think its done in its beauty more gets added and its just gets better.
I watched this Tiny Desk over & over again! Baby this acoustic version of Distance took me up through there!!!! I didn’t even know I needed this! This is probably my favorite Tiny Desk concert so far!!! But we need an acoustic version of the album!!!
I love Yebba's voice. Her tone, texture, and clarity is something of a rarity. A talent like hers isn't heard too often in today's artist. Great sound and such a blessing to hear her perform.
This version of STAND haunts me. So well done. If you don't feel something listening to this, someone needs to check your pulse. Grateful that I'm able to witness and enjoy this talent.
Actually effortlessly! Imagine if she actually decide to push and hit her max, unstoppable. And I don’t even think that’s neccesAry. She’s a star just like this
She's hands down, the most exciting new artist out there. She is unparalleled for her sound, tone, style. I know Yebba's still exploring all the contours of her voice but I'm so thrilled to be an observer on the side. Blessed to be able to hear her. Thank you NPR Tiny Desk!!
If you wear earphones you should notice in “stand” whenever a new vocalist joins in after the other you can each one in a different ear when they sing “they see it in the way we are” section!! Goosebumps!!

I hope that Yebba knows that she is deserving of all the love , all the accolades , and all the opportunities she has coming her way. I hope
She never doubts her worthiness. Her gift is beyond this world & I’m glad I’m alive to witness it.
🥺 couldn’t have said it any better!!
Lovely :)
All of this! And I hope above all else, she TAKES HER TIME with her gifts. This 4 year slow simmer has allowed her to release PERFECTION on HER TERMS.
No one can match Yebba right now.
She has it all. Power, tone, grit, agility, resonance and incredible lyricism, it all flows so effortlessly from her mouth.
Big future ahead of her
You need to listen to Jazmin Sullivan as well then! These two make up my whole playlist!!
When you listen to Jasmine and HER ,you won't say this again.....though she good in her way
I saw this comment and immediately was gonna tell you listen to Jasmine Sullivan, and since the two prior comments told you to do so, then you definitely should lol
Yebba has the stamina that sometimes I think Jazmine runs out of. I seen both live numerous times and they’re both great. They should do a collab.
very well written. i agree ;)
I hope y’all listened with headphones because this was beautifully engineered 🤯
I will next time she’s incredible
You weren’t lying
I SAID THE SAME THING... I've listened to this MULTIPLE times and I just put headphones in for the first time.. I literally had to pause during the first song to make sure this isn't a different video... the arrangements are BEAUTIFUL
Literally theeeeee Best backing vocals I have EVER HEARD YES LORD !!!
Facts
Yes!!
There have only been a few back up singers on Tiny Desk that were beyond excellence. These back up singers are among the top 3, Jasmine Sullivan back up singers, too.
In all my years of listening to music… this is possibly the most perfect performance in synergy with incredible writing… listening to this is almost an experience that I have to “Get over”…
I’m a musician, but when I listen to this I become a listener, something that rarely happens to me - utterly magical, a magical cure for every pain you didn’t know you had locked away.
Thank you
thanks Rob for taking the lead in paying tribute to a fellow musician, to a work and a word that transcends all our lives. appreciate your craft Sir, and Yebba's
What a beautiful comment . I can agree with you too.
whew! you really said it bc thats EXACTLY how i felt and goodluck getting over her lol shes addicting. omg i love her❤️
So proud of the super talented Niya Norwood (female background singer) representing Berkeley’s music program! Check out her Sofar performance. ❤️
Wow she is incredible! I’ve listened like a hundred times for every different instrument & part and each one of the background singers is unbelievable
Unbelievable as individual singers, and unbelievable in how incredibly tightly they worked together to make 4 voices carve riffs like that in perfect time & tone
Thanks for the plug, I'll check her out
Thanks for that….heading to check her out! Because they did so well
Absolutely! I love back ground singers .. I wish I could also see them.
Thanks for letting us know- I will DEFINITELY check her out!!
It’s 2024…why is this girl not more famous-er. I just heard My Mind the other day, and Yebba’s my new jam!
I need Yebba to collaborate with Shaboozey, please!
I can’t stop listening to Stand. “Turning my transgressions into gold” and the harmony that follows 😭 Perfection. And the ‘run so hard’ + ‘way we are’ harmonies😭
no seriously. I’m obsessed. I can’t stop listening.
That’s the moment!!!! 😭💯
That's literally what keeps bringing me back!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Same here!! I need to hear it every single day at least once lol
And the pointing just added the fact that she was killlling it.
She and Jazmine Sullivan have really been the ones getting me through 2021
I need this version of Stand on itunes immediately 😩😭 the background vocals brought the song to another level
I can’t stop playing it
Facts
right???
omg I was literally live searching for the live version
This!! My favorite one.
2 years later and it still hits the same 🥲
I love how she blends a sound between country, jazz, and r&b!
Yes. Amazing. ❤🙌
Yes!!!
❤❤
Are there some folk music sounds in there too?
@@nataliecovers__ oh yeah!
NPR: “Where’s the sound engineer?”
Yebba: “I’m here”
How so? I see her adjusting her in-ear monitor mix. Nothing else.
@@pete3816 it was literally just a joke..
@@jay.9534 correct 😀
@@pete3816 yikes.. you must be fun at parties
Periodt!!!
I was so moved by "How Many Years". What an artist, her songs are like paintings.
Perfectly stated...
Sooo perfectly stated!!!
Beautifully put
Yes so true
I still think this is the best tiny desk performance in history. Ya'll still watching in 2024? x
Can't stop, won't stop ♡♡♡
I don't believe this music is real. Those background vocals are out of this world. Wow... this is excellency in action. ..
Yes! That is my reaction as well. This cannot be real!
I feel like I just watched a secret concert in heaven that humans weren’t supposed to see, this was incredible.
Your description is spot on
Perfectly said!❤
Omg, very well said!!💯💯💯🔥
This comment is so beautiful and so perfect, it just made me laugh with joy. 😀❤
Exactly description.
I totally agree
Yes!
2 years later and I keep coming back erryday and will forever until I download it and have implanted into my brain
She has one of the best voices in the industry and she’s definitely a legend in the making ❤️ Give this woman credit where it’s due 😤❤️ ALSO THE BACKGROUND VOCALISTS!!!
Truly wonderful. I'm disappointed if more don't see this sometimes. Lovely Always Dear
The musical arrangements are soooooo on point. Its like Bob Ross painting...when you think its done in its beauty more gets added and its just gets better.
This whole performance deserves a Grammy award.
After following her for a couple years now, I can see that she's going to have a crazy, well deserved climb in the next 6-12 months. Buckle up.
I ain’t ready😭
COME ON WITH IT!!!!
Listen, she about to rocket to the top. Nobody deserves it more than her.
Absolutely!
💯 she’s already reached 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify and she’s 499th in the world. I really believe she’ll get to like 80 or 60th soon
Listening September 2024. Peace to y’all.
I watched this Tiny Desk over & over again! Baby this acoustic version of Distance took me up through there!!!! I didn’t even know I needed this! This is probably my favorite Tiny Desk concert so far!!! But we need an acoustic version of the album!!!
I absolutely agree. She needs a live album for sure.
Come on now!!!! To be in that room would've been a truly spiritual experience, right!!!! 🙌🏾😇🙌🏾
I couldn't agree more! I literally can only listen to the acoustic version of Distance now. I'm hooked!
Agreed! I listen to this every day
All I can say is bruh …Distance left me speechless
The first song, Stand, is a masterpiece in the way it was performed. Simply amazing.
Listen!!! Its Magical!
This version of Distance is sending me to heaven right now. We need that version on Spotify please! ❤
PERIOD!!! And I’ve already listened to the other one a MILLION times lol I guess a million more!!!
And Stand!! Phew!!
I love Yebba's voice. Her tone, texture, and clarity is something of a rarity. A talent like hers isn't heard too often in today's artist. Great sound and such a blessing to hear her perform.
*Personal note*
Stand - 0:11
Distance - 5:32
All I Ever Wanted - 10:07
How Many Years - 14:45
May I borrow your note 😂
@@paulgilbert3139 Lol 😂 be my guest!

Heroes without Capes, and all that 👏
Thanks 🙏 😊
I feel like the background singers need their own Tiny Desk concert lol
Totally agree 100%
EXACTLY
Yessss! All of them together make this one of the best live performances I’ve ever heard. Just deep cut beautiful voices and music.
@@ccss6940 yes!!!
Their blend is impeccable!!
Yebba is one the most underrated artist out there would love a joint concert/ with Jasmine Sullivan! 🔥 ❤️
This is a FANTASTIC IDEA
Or Adele
I don't think my soul would be ready for a Jasmine/Yebba joint tour 😵
Oh my goodness! That would be CRAZY!!!
i don't know if I could handle that tbh
3 years later and How Many Years still brings me to tears
you can tell she cares so much about her art. her whole mf soul is in every note
That part 🥺👉🏾👈🏾🥰
This version of STAND haunts me. So well done. If you don't feel something listening to this, someone needs to check your pulse. Grateful that I'm able to witness and enjoy this talent.
I’ve been listening to this live version for months and I just listened to the album version I’m shocked 😯
@@Lauren-z6b7o It is not the same! This one is much better IMO.
@@cherylpressley5318 oh it’s so much better this version touches my soul
Indeed! The background singers make an immense difference.
I find her vocal runs complex, but never too much. As she sings them effortlessly, I can comfortably listen to her and enjoy the journey~
true!! it never distracts from the song but adds to it
Actually effortlessly! Imagine if she actually decide to push and hit her max, unstoppable. And I don’t even think that’s neccesAry. She’s a star just like this
@@loveafrica97 have you listen to my day will come ?? its a song yebba and james made in 2018 and its crazy for me personally :)))
Listening 3 years later and it feels like it’s the first time. Best NPR performance 🔥🙌🏾🥹
She's hands down, the most exciting new artist out there. She is unparalleled for her sound, tone, style. I know Yebba's still exploring all the contours of her voice but I'm so thrilled to be an observer on the side. Blessed to be able to hear her. Thank you NPR Tiny Desk!!
I’ve been listening to her for about 6-7 years now, she’s not new at all, I would say she’s just gotten a solid break through
She’s not new lol
Not new. And to say she’s ‘unparalleled’ shows you need to broaden your own exposure.
AGREE 100%. What a GIFT.
new????
SET LIST:
0:11 Stand
5:30 Distance
10:18 All I Ever Wanted
14:46 How Many Years
Amen🧘♂️
Setlist Hero
Yes I got to get it on a cd for my car
Just a note, Tiny Desk always puts the set list in the description, but your time stamps are awesome. Super helpful to jump to a song! 😀
this is my petition for yebba to release this recording as a live album so we can have it on spotify.
She really SANG on Distance bro tf! The changes she made were so tastefully stinky 🔥 man she's a composer
She has an angelic voice. Her song dedicated to her mom is divine.
Evergreen she wrote for her mother I listen to that after I lost my closet friend it was so turn
@@armybarbee605 ❤️
If you wear earphones you should notice in “stand” whenever a new vocalist joins in after the other you can each one in a different ear when they sing “they see it in the way we are” section!! Goosebumps!!
Vocal engineers for the win!!!
Sound engineer 💯💯
My favorite part! Aaahh so heavenly good!
YES
Come on panning!!!
Why am I not hearing her music on the radio? She a REAL artist!! This is crazy!
You know why!
She won’t let them control her! She doesn’t really need the establishment!
She’s an artist’s artist. Dropping thru the studio for fun and burning it down like Angela Bassett with a cigarette
Right!
she didnt pay the bribes...
I just heard this young lady for the first time today. Amazing
I can’t even listen to the studio version of Distance anymore she outdid herself like crazy here
That's how I feel about this version of "Stand"
I refuse to listen all the studio versions 😭
Yes! So right. Xx
To me at this point they're like different songs
WHAT A PERFORMANCE THE VOCALS ARE BUTTERY. The BGVs SOLIDDDDD 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The BGVs were really on point, right. They were killin' it...👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This performance has become a part of my daily routine.
Literally every morning !
