Having the 2018 GLC43, I have to say that the acceleration just doesn't stop! No matter what speed you're driving at, when you stomp on the gas, it keeps on pulling way past 100mph! Almost scary! And the brakes are more than enough for the vehicle...driving it in day to day commuter traffic, I get to experience emergency braking almost every day as some idiot in front of me decided to execute some stupid maneuver. But the thing that brings a smile to my face is that exhaust...that *BARK* when it upshifts! There is no better sound than that!
I looked at both Mate but it was my own $$$ buying the "Toorak Tractor" for my wife to drive. In the States the GLC43 is over $10K less than a Macan....she's driving a GLC43.....If I want to hit the track.....I'll take a proper Sports Car. The GLC43 is a great dare I say....Bargin!
If you ever drove both, you would understand xd the macan is just alot more fun to drive and exciting and feels like a sportcar , so it doesn't matter how much features the glc has.
Safety nannies, squishy suspension, and a bit more rear space does not make it the better SUV in this segment, otherwise both cars are smashed to bits by a Jag F-Pace which is less than half the cost. The point is to have a luxury SUV that drives nearly like a sportscar. Porsche beats the Benz in every way in that regard, and as an additional factor, the dealership experience is much better with Porsche than Benz.
My pick would easily be the Macan GTS although I am a little biased. Macan looks much more sportier and is probably more fun to drive even on the street. The 9-speed auto is slow compared to the PDK. The Macan will be better in depreciation as AMG products tend to depreciate very quickly. I don't think the space/utility is too different between the two cars honestly. I admit there is a big price difference between the two but if price is the factor you will still get most of it with the Macan S.
I've no doubt that the Macan is the superior track car, but the '43 is quicker in a straight line and a shade more practical. I spec'd both fantastic cars in the UK and for a 50k GLC you were looking at nearly 70k - like for like spec - on the Macan! 2k down and and a 2 year wait I was told two years ago by the dealer. I'd be getting it now, in time for the new tax rules!. So it will be a GLC on my drive this Friday, and a Disco in between. Anyway, If I wanted a car with a Porsche badge on it, and don't get me wrong, I dearly do!! - it would not be a Macan..
So the GLC is better in every area apart from breaking and slight understeer on the track, and yet the expensive, under equipped, impractical, and smaller Macan wins??????
Jose War i was seriously considering the macan but in the end the GLA 45 won me over when I test drove it . much more fun but admittedly smaller and slightly less practical than the macan
how is it less practical, GLC has always been the best for practicality. It's probably just Americans (or Australians) who don't understand the European way GLC is best for British roads and EU
Porsche starts with better figures (transmission, steering and chassis) but these come at a price. You can configure a GLC with decent options at a much lower price. The glc starts from 57k while the macan gts from 74k and you will still need to add expensive optionals.
I have only driven the GTS and it is amazing in the way it drives, but two things that made me not buy it was the space in the backseat and the fuel economy. It's possible to get it with a 75 liters tank but still I would have to fuel it every 4 days. It's not so much the price for the extra fuel but simply the time and irritation to drive and look for a place to refuel when you are on the move and yes I know that the navigation can help me... but still Since the Merc has a 9 speed gearbox it should have a better fuel economy - here the problem is that it only comes with around 60-65 liters tank. Normally I would buy a diesel but these engines just feel and sound so much better. I can only hope the facelift in the macan will bring a more powerful diesel engine or that Mercedes will put the new 313 HK diesel in the GLC Does anyone know the fuel economy of the GLC 43 in real life?
Pound for pound the GLC is the better buy. Porsche climbs to $81k(conservatively) compared to an equally equipped $70k Mercedes. Seems someone got a t-shirt or mug from Porsche before doing this review. Vote with your money. I did !!
Glc is the nicer and better car imo, but I would still choose Porsche because of the superior brand. And the brand really does make the difference. Mercedes is too saturated these days. Unless we are talking about a gtr.
@@jondoe1310 yeah but 63s or not even worth buying in all honesty. And again, its the brand that makes porsche the better pick. UK for instance can't even take full advantage of the speed 99 percent of the time regardless, so at that point it becomes about status.
Im cross shopping both... macan is a great car but is looking dated inside compared to Audi and MB. New SQ5 and GLC43 will be at least 10k cheaper. I do plan to rent a Macan S to give a solid look.
The Macan is the better driving machine, but that does not offset the cramped backseats, small boot and service costs. The Macan also looks a bit dated now.
Not in this case...The Mercedes has more HP, more torque and is faster in the 0-60 and corners better. Plus it has better interior capacity and better gas mileage. And the best part is that the Mercedes doesn't have a tweaked Audi engine...which is known for issues...the AMG is a tried and true engine tech that has decades of success behind it!
Poorly conceived test is designed to favour the Macan, racing around a racetrack? Really?! I had considered the Macan 2 years ago but after building one on their website, the options pricing was outrageous. The thing is in desperate need of an update as well, it never was good looking, and time has not been kind to the S. Also, consider that they had to go to the much more expensive GTS to even compete.
Exactly!! Porsche basically make every single feature an option you have to select and pay extra for. So confusing, not to mention it will cost you loads extra money for options that other manufacturers like Audi, Mercedes, etc include in the base price. To get the exact same features on a Macan as you get on the GLC AMG or SQ5, it will cost you way more.
So the SUV which is more practical and better for every day driving lost to the one which is better on the track? Now I see why your channel is at the bottom of the pile.
GLC looks better and would have more utility value. It also has more storage for your stuff like wallets, sunglasses, etc. The Macan is just a hatchback on stilts.
GLC is the smart choice- better value and it actually functions as Utility vehicle. The 4,400 lb Macan touted as a “Sport” SUV is ridiculous, taking this elephant to a racetrack?
You can get an Infiniti FX 50 for the same performance times as these two cars for half of the price and it's just as good looking or even better looking too me.

I am ordering the GLC 43 amg in 3 days im so happy! Have to wait 4 months for delivery.
How has the GLC been since you bought it?
@@anthonyhockey2433 I really liked it, I recently sold it for a smaller sized car because I moved to a city but the Glc certainly was a great car
@redlion3569 how was the comfort on the glc?
@@ChrisKeyman It was a comfortable car for sure even tho I always drove it in Sport+ mode 😅
You guys had the track at your disposal, you couldve done a drag race or two or maybe a timed lap :/
So the GLC 43 is the better SUV but your choice goes to the Macan GTS? Interesting consumer advice.
yeah, I was gonna say that..

Withershadow: You must be british to actually believing that.

The macan’s tech looks so old school and busy. I chose the glc amg.
The true competitor for the GLC 43 is the Macan S, not the GTS

BAD comparison using track criteria to judge 2 SUV's?! WTH??
Oh, by the way, in the real world, the GLC is the smarter choice.
Just ordered a Macan GTS! Hands down the best in class!
I think were the Mercedes falls short is the Burmester sound system is 590 watts, while Porsche Burmester sound system is over 1000 watts.
One comes with the premium pack, other is a very costly individual option tho

Anders Jensen about 26mpg but got 18mpg other day driving hard

Love them both
I want both
Id go glc all day.
So the Mercedes is better at almost every aspect but the Porsche wins just because. Seriously?
Glc is the nicer and better car imo, but I would still choose Porsche because of the superior brand.

zenbon sak Mercedes is more reliable than Porsche. My GLC43 AMG now with 21k miles has been trouble free and faster than the Porsche

Motoring Australia SQ5 was already available in a petrol. There were two options.
This video made no sense!!! hahaha I want the mercedes!
GLC any time
Cool
Wanted to see them RACE!!!!!!!
We have a macan Gts

GLC AMG 43 is the Best
we did not get to hear the cars??
Porsche very Good Beautiful i Love Porsche 🤩😍😍🤩💗💗💗
Id take the Macan anyyyday...but id prefer a macan turbo :D
You don't know much about cars do you? The Macan GTS is a twin turbo V6 just like the GLC43.
Eric Brandt im talking about the macan turbo... 3.6l twin turbo with 294kw and 550nm u spend...not the macan s and gts models....
my mate bought a macan turbo last year and cost him 180+k with almost all optional parts
GREAT TASTE MY MAN!
With that cash i would buy a Mclaren MC12 4C...LOL WHAT A WASTE....
GLC 63s would be the real comparison.
porsche smokes mercedes

No drag race???
Porsche (Macan GTS is my 3rd Porsche ) is way above better car in all aspects than Mercedes and other cars
Freddie Stream way better? Because it’s slower and smaller and more expensive. You have drunk the Porsche badge kook aid!

that's the whole idea behind the GTS model... that its the best of those options with a reduced price...
Glc 10 000 times
which one is faster?
MKM2ND the GLC43
Good question, the video doesn't answer it! Lol
GREAT REVIEW FOR A GREAT CAR.PORSCHE MACAN!
This guy just loves the underdog. Lol
what an unfair test, you went for 43 instead of 63s
43's are more accessible
Wunderbarr
I just ordered both cars because I want to out do everyone in the comments!
the GTS is on another level... MACAN anyday
Macan turbo wouldve been a better comparison with the amg
Porsche very nice Good Beautiful
So the SUV which is more practical and better for every day driving lost to the one which is better on the track? Now I see why your channel is at the bottom of the pile.
Mercedes🙌🏻❤️⭐
GLC looks better
I thought the opposite. The GLC looks like a Subaru compared to the Macan.
Macan Looks Way better
Glc43 looks cheap next to the porsche
Should’ve gone to spec savers
The best or nothing
GLC looks better and would have more utility value. It also has more storage for your stuff like wallets, sunglasses, etc. The Macan is just a hatchback on stilts.
Care to mention Macan's horrible rear view camera and much less interior space?
Porsche any day
U digggg
senseless review.....
The Mercedes is good, but the Porsche Macan is perfect - and has good mechanics
glc43 is way better, i smell ad
I actually just drove both today… Was really disappointed with macans interior, way too much buttons that didn’t even feel “expensive” to press
Porche's interior is shit. And no push start, really?
Unashamably?
