  • So you bought a used bike as your first motorcycle and rode it until it would go no more, and now you’re ready to buy a brand-new motorcycle. Which bike should you buy? In this episode of On Two Wheels Ari and Zack exploring five major categories of motorcycling and list the bikes they recommend for each. And, because the idea is that this could be your first brand-new bike, all of these bikes have MSRPs under $10,000.
    --
    Okay, so you did the right thing and bought a used bike as your first motorcycling companion and rode it until it would go no more. There’s something special about your first bike, no question, but now you’re in the market for a fresh machine to call your own. What you’re learning is that between all of the different shapes and sizes of motorcycles available you’re not sure which one suits you best.
    The best way to find out which kind of bike is for you is to try them. The second best way is to watch Ari and Zack in this episode of On Two Wheels, exploring five major categories of motorcycling and listing the bikes they recommend for each. And, because the idea is that this could be your first brand-new bike, all of these bikes have MSRPs under $10,000.

    You recommend the FZ09 for tall riders who won't fit the FZ07, but it's worth noting that the FZ09 is a lot more powerful and not suitable for a new rider IMO.

      I'm 6'3" and did look a bit large on the FZ07 so I bought the Tracer 700 instead. The Tracer wasn't out when they made this vid or it defo would've been on the list. All the fun of the FZ or MT as we call it, with subtle tweaks that make a great bike. I paid £6450 new for mine and love it.

      I bought used and the Versys was the best adventure bike for what I was looking for but the older Versys were absolutely butt ugly. I ended up getting a V-strom, which I'm extremely happy with but I always wondered about the Versys engine. The 0-60 and quarter mile times are about the same but every review has it better for canyon carving.

      I agree. I got my 2009 Versys 650 for super cheap on CL and it has been an amazing bike. I've got full luggage on it and I've done 7-hour days of interstate riding with no problem. That bike handles 85 mph with no sweat, but is small enough that you can handle it in the city and for daily commuting. Great bike, great value.

    Get a Dual Sport, 2 bikes in one! However, Japan needs to update their old outdated dual sports. DRZ still has an old carburetor. You'd think all bikes would have fuel injection in 2015.

    I had decided on the Versys 650 before finding this review on youtube. What drew my attention towards a dual sport? Location and experience. As a new, healthy rider expecting to use the bike regularly, I want something diverse. I plan on going everywhere using a motorcycle. As a professional driver (meaning it's my job to obey the rules of the road) getting injured or ticketed for speeding isn't in my best interest. Also, the bike is meant to liberate me from the task of operating a 70 foot long, 80k lb commercial tractor trailer. Most of the time, I am very limited to where my vehicle fits. Being able to go just about anywhere is what I have in mind. Weather I need to make a quick run to the bank or take the back roads to visit family for Thanksgiving, the Versys 650 looks ready take me there.

  • @aaronbehindbars
    @aaronbehindbars 8 років тому +51

    That was an impressive amount of content for a 9 minute video and y'all really hit some good points and attributes of each bike. I particularly liked how you mentioned how the FZ07 might be a difficult fit for taller riders. At 6'1", it feels cramped. The FZ09 feels considerably roomier despite the specs suggesting otherwise. I found that the shape of the gas tank makes the 07 feel odd and probably contributes to that.
    Sometimes I curse my slightly taller than average height because not only it makes some really cool bikes uncomfortable to ride, but you are doomed to a lifetime of reaching items from the top shelf at the store for short people. I'm gonna start asking short people to grab me stuff from the bottom shelf.

    • @ktmkevin
      @ktmkevin 8 років тому +2

      Haha in my country you would be exactly average. The younger generation of boys (like the 18yr olds of today) are 2" taller than you :P I'm 6'1" like you and feel like I'm short

    • @aaronbehindbars
      @aaronbehindbars 8 років тому

      V-twin Kevin What country is that? Here in the US, the average male is 5'9". People certainly are getting taller, but 6'3" sounds way up there for an average.

    • @ktmkevin
      @ktmkevin 8 років тому +2

      +Aaron Fink that would be the country of the Dutch. Statistically, 6'1" is the average now but of course that's with all the short grandpa's included. The new generation is noticably much taller. Getting quite ridiculous actually

    • @xMrTFx
      @xMrTFx 8 років тому +1

      +Aaron Fink He is right, The Dutch are the tallest people in the world. So imagine how I feel being 6 feet tall and living there. Here you can read about it if you want

      Aaron Fink I'm 6' without shoes and I have to say that the FZ-07 is fine. FZ-09 is not beginner friendly at all and I wouldn't recommend it to a newbie just like these guys didn't. After having 2 years of riding under my belt and a week on a tuned up 2016 R1 though I definitely need to transition up.

    You guys are awesome! I rode an FZ-07 a while back and while the power was awesome, I saw myself in a passing window and noticed how huge I looked sitting on it. I'm 6'2 and with my larger frame I fit perfectly on the FZ-09, which is what I picked up yesterday. I'm glad I was able to find you guys after you left MotorTrend. Subscribing for more awesome content!

    Wow, I love it when I see popular youtubers that film just down the street from me! Trabuco Canyon is awesome with all that diverse terrain/road to ride all in one place. Cooks corner is also where tons of bikers gather just to pit stop through those windy roads. I'm not a motorcycle rider myself but will soon be when the finances allow. You guys make great and informative videos.

    You two are THE BEST. We know that vids like this are a TON of work and we totally appreciate it! Long live your UA-cam channel!
    As I tell everyone who asks...remember, your first bike does not have to be your last bike! Get one, ride it, sell it, get another :-)

    Great video. I still maintain that a dualsport/supermoto is probably the most forgiving, fun and still challenging way to get into two wheels.. and into a little bit of trouble :)
