10 seconds in: "Oh man that's tasty!" Time to add to the playlist. Thanks Paul. Getting Brand X / Al Dimeola vibes but they definitely have their own lane. That's tight
Guthrie Govan, Marco Minnermann and Bryan Beller. You guys got it spot on with them having fun. They play such complex music at times but still have fun. There's not one ounce of ego with them but huge mutual respect for each other. Dan and Sifa, hope if you do another drum podcast, Marco my get a little mention. Good and bad news. The Aristocrats are currently touring the U.S.. Bad news, Guthrie has contracted Covid-19. Good news, he's been in isolation for 5 days and about to restart the tour, though he'll be wearing a mask for a short while. Don't forget Dan and Sifa, they're in NYC in early August!!! Great reaction, thanks very much.
Another sorta Zappa connection. Brian Beller (bass player) plays a lot with Mike Kenneally (zappa stunt guitar player on 88 tour). I walked into a music store about 20 years ago and those two were playing an acoustic set on Ovation guitars. Just me and maybe 6 other people with them in a tiny studio and Keneally going off playing Inca Roads. Most awesome thing I've ever seen. Brian is awesome, kenneally is from another world.
Now that I’ve seen these guys, I don’t see how I can ever come back to regular life again. I adore Bellars’ sound so much. It really cuts through. Great suggestion!
OMFG.....This was a masterclass in playing and arrangement, Guthrie is a guitar genius and will literally rip your face off with his solos but they are always so tasteful and well executed too... this trio are incredible, I was expecting smoke to be coming off that guitar! What can you say really? Words don't cover it.... I am so glad you reacted to this guys, loved your reaction as always.... oh btw apparently Bryan Beller the bass player smells like spiders!
Welcome to the wonderful world of extraordinary musicians. Saw this trio, but also saw bassist and drummer in Steve Vais band, Satrianis band, and of course Mike Keneally’s Band. I thank Zappas universe for leading me to music and musicians like these guys here.
great again. Don't forget to listen to "ZZ Top" a piece by them (written by Minnemann, youtube: /watch?v=sd6oCQDsxaM). Minnemann reminds me of and is an animal ;) (funny you mention muppets). Govan can play anything and it looks so easy. The sounds he gets out of the guitar are mindbending.
Way fun!! Relentlessly accessible, enjoyable, all while being very technically impressive. I'd forgotten. Life goes on and on and on...droning effect. This strips that away. Thanks again. So good together. As a musician, I can think of no higher praise than being called a Muppet. I used to get Fraggle Rock from a friend. Might've been something else tho'...no clue. Was that it?
The way Guthrie is able to support the chord changes while soloing just blows my mind. Normally trios feel like they are too thin during solos but not these guys.
There is one track Smuggler’s Corridor where they do sing although Guthrie refused, and it’s a great track! Best wishes to Guthrie by the way as he’s just had to cancel a couple of shows due to Covid.
Except for "Smuggler's Corridor" 😉 And yes, usually Bryan Beller does most of the announcements, but when Guthrie starts talking it's almost as beautiful as his guitar playing.
Absolutely outstanding. There's a common joke about Guthrie Govan. Why it took nearly 2000 years for the return of Jesus? Well, he exercised on guitar. Maybe you know that the German drummer Marco Minnemann when Mike Portnoy left Dream Theater was auditioned by the band. Here's a documentary about the auditions ua-cam.com/video/NiDZKY96H9Y/v-deo.html - have fun, Joachim
I get that Marc. I'm thinking of May be the pay off between the distorted sound and those clean Strat / Jazz tones he accesses just using the vol. pot. But I'm guessing.
Before Zappa Plays Zappa, Bryan Beller was in Dweezils band Z. You guys would dig it. Joe Travers was the drummer.
Also, Bryan and Marco were in Mike Keneally's band, a sort of precursor to The Aristocrats.
@@paulfenwick8767 Yes indeed!

Planning a request in a month or two featuring Brand X guitarist John Goodsall in a 3 piece band.
@@paulfenwick8767 NICE!
WOW. Insanity. GGG, BBB, MMD at their best. Sometimes I forget about how good the bassman is. Now I remember 👍🇩🇪

Good call Paul! Love these guys!
@@chazblitz Cheers, glad you enjoyed. Fear this will be pearls before swine for many on here, cocooned and/or predictable in their music, lol.
@@paulfenwick8767 You can lead em to the water but you can't force them to drink it. Some of us appreciate these guys virtuoso playing.
@@chazblitz haha, so very true. As my Grandfather used to say "You can't put there what the good lord didn't" lol.
Shout out to Paul for bringing this to our attention!
Saw them live 2019 in London. Amazing gig. Three maestros! They don’t sing, but talk between songs. The pig and chicken squeak!

We do too!
Three of the best musicians their age having fun. There is so much space and dynamics. And it's life. Amazing.🎶🎉🖖
That was fucking BRILLIANT....Thank you.... Peace.
Glad you enjoyed Dave!
love `em

Thanks for watching Damon! We’d love to be made into muppets too!
@@SightAfterDark Bort! Bort! Bort!
yeah, jabbadhut got it, they do talk, joke and interact with the crowd between numbers.

Initials: GG MM BB. You're right baby. That matches.
With Marco Minnemann on mrums, Right?
I don't think they sing, but they usually talk between songs.

They're doing it with an orchestra now 😲 The Primuz Chamber Orchestra. Really, really great stuff. Search for Aristocrats Primuz. E.g. Stupid 7. 👍
Wow. Nice!

Oh great, thanks Joachim!
You two speak like you really listen. I “play” guitar however… I want to burn all of mine listening to him.
I can’t play for sh..t
☺️we can’t either compared to these guys
Interesting..power trio who can play.
Very tasty and technical stuff. I just wish the tone of Guthrie's guitar had more body. It's just to metallic for me.

So... is that all ya got? 8-P
😆
Marco often talks to the audience. But as far as I know there are no vocals.
Maybe make the video the show instead of you
This is our show. The stand alone video is accessible on UA-cam for you to watch.
