And if you didn't realize - Marco Minneman on drums here. And in Drive Home.

Great reaction, happy to see you enjoyed it. That solo is truly 1\1 in modern rock. If you want an even more emotional song (+amazing solo) i'd recommend Routine from the same album. Watch the video. Bring tissues

Picked up my Guthrie Charvel on the same day I went to see Steven Wilson in Edinburgh and almost took it back the next day :p I actually have a vid of this solo on my YT from that gig. It was epic - he is really the best guitarist I have ever seen live - and I have seen a lot of them!

You need to check another of Wilson with Guthrie, maybe "The Watchmaker" or "The Holy Drinker" live version both

What more needs to be said, Guthrie's guitar did all the talking

Great reaction. Definitely Routine from the same album and the live version from Tilberg of Porcupine trees song Anesthetise for a nearly perfect performance .

Another band to check out - Chickenfoot. Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith. Maybe start out with "Soap on a Rope" or their cover of "Highway Star".

That's exactly the reaction I'd expect for this song. For the glorious Moog synth solo, check this out from the Royal Albert Hall.

Hey BDB - Mr Wilson would have no problem with your reaction. So long as his composition produces the level of passion that it did in you - he would see his job as having been done.
As I have mentioned in other reviews of this track, totally 100% agree that is likely the greatest solo of its type ever recorded, and as Steven Wilson himself has stated, it was done in 1 take, the FIRST take!. But as Im sure you would recognise - and as you demonstrated - to truly appreciate its total power only happens when it is placed in its place within the overall work. And the masterful progressions weaving their way and building behind it give Guthrie the whole palate on which to overlay his genius.
I notice someone did provide you the link to the live performace of SW 2018 tour where he performed this - and so many other equally gobsmacking compositions. This is the one I was recommending you do the live version of - in fact as I mentioned - anything involving the genius that is Steven Wilson, if there is a live version available - dont hesitate, go the live.
    Hopefully perhaps another time.
This whole album from SW was a deliberate tribute to 70's progressive rock. That was the whole plan and he chose the musicians to suit what he was aiming for.
Sensational as this whole recording is, it just doesnt quite have the energy or sheer magic of the performance in the Royal Albert. Same keyboardist and bass player and of course SW himself, but a different drummer and guitarist.
The whole double DVD is astonishing. 973 reviews on Google with an average rating 4.9/5 pretty much says it all.
Keep up the SW coming - there is some much more to blow your mind and bring tears to the eyes!
