I'm 57 yr old and I love these old Zebco reels! These reels contributed so much to getting so many people outside and going fishing. When I was young and didn't know about baitcaster or spinning reels, I was so proud to have a new Zebco 404 and a good rod I had bought for myself from the local hardware store from money I made working on the farm, and I used it as much as I could. Striped it, cleaned and oiled it and spent good money on a roll of Stren for it because that is what Bill Dance said to use! I was a happy camper! Caught lots of fish on that rod with Mepps Comet Minos!
They truly are part of our childhood experience and nostalgia. It's why I love them so much today and still use them. If properly maintained, they'll last for more than a lifetime!
I'm 14 and my mamaw gave m this same fishing rod.....it wasn't working so she told me to find a video to help us......your video was super useful!! I have already liked and subscribed....THANKS!
I have a late 70s metal foot green 202 where the drag lever post broke off. Would I fix that the same way? Seems like the drag works nearly identically but the drag knob is pinned in.
@@tonys.5940 the post was closer to the edge than on the 404 so I had to remove quite a bit of the screw head but I got it working! Now I’ll have to see if it’ll hold long term.

That's awesome. I'm glad the video helped you get the reel working like it should.
Very interesting repair!

Yes, the repair would essentially be the same.

Would you have a spinner head for an 808 ?
Unfortunately, I do not. You might inquire on the Facebook Group called "Zebco Shop & Swap". Those guys on there have everything.
