I have a 2000 something pro hauler. It died at the last music festival I was at. I determined right away that the carburetor was getting gas. So today I cleaned the carburetor following your instructions. It runs great now . Thanks
There’s nothing wrong with explaining about your shop. If anything it’s kind of helpful to know it’s easy to get to and what’s not and the arrangement. The arrangement of a shop is very important it saves on production. Thanks Kevin
Hi Kevin, your Q & A would be great... I work at a golf course and I have been deemed the mechanic... but I rely on your videos because I really don't know the first thing about golf carts. I can take a carb off & clean and do minor things but to diagnose a problem I'm not that good at. I'm learning as I go....
I started where you are now. I worked at a golf course as part of the grounds crew. I had a machine break down on the course and repaired it myself so I could finish my work. That's when I was offered the assistant mechanic spot. From there, it took off to what I have now. You will pick up on it after doing it for a while, as long as you are mechanically inclined.
Im hoping i just found the right guy to help me replace or clean old g22 Yamaha carb! parts are relatively cheap, my question is should i just put in a new carb or should i clean like this video? keep in mind this is my first ever mechanic "repair job" on anything ever. I have already replaced steering rack and front king pins. Any chance of another video showing exactly what you were taking off when removing carb? went fast for my beginner / less experienced eyes. Thanks in advance great video and will be reveiwing all that may help me in my first repair journey.
Kevin......your battery terminals are right on, especially if you aid a light kit, which i am doing.....where do you get them and the crimping tool also....ty...nice channel even though many years old
One issue with live stream, is time zones. Another channel I watch always does it when I can't watch. And quite often there are technical difficulties. Other channels write down a list of commonly asked questions and just sit an answer them for us. I would prefer that, it would also give us a coherent broadcast to refer back to. Thanks for sharing your expertise :)
Just found your page and I’m enjoying watching this videos as I try to get a G16 that was just giving to me running right. Thank you for the extra knowledge.
Hi Kevin, I have a 2003 G22 and I have an issue of the bowl of the carb filling up and when it does so, it runs really rough. To solve this, I release the fuel from the bowl and it runs great again. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?
Kevin I have a g22a I just bought. Ran out fine for the test drive. Drove it approx a mile to the golf course this morning then driving up to the clubhouse it quit like it was out of fuel. Fuel filter was empty. Added gas to the cylinder and it cranked. Replaced the fuel pump. With same result. Still no fuel
Very helpful video Kevin. Maybe you can answer a question for me. I have the same g22 cart. It backfires on startup occasionally. I have checked the throttle plate adjustment. No one I talked to seems to be able to figure it out. Needless to say my friends aren't real happy with me on the golf course.
The throttle plate should not open until after the engine is cranking. If that's good, the ignition coil may not be shutting off when you release the gas pedal. This could be a bad stop relay next to the solenoid or the ground wire came off the ignition coil.
Why is float not setting level on my g22? I have a flooding issue. If I pinch fuel line a bit it runs great. I polished the seat, thorough cleaning. Can the plastic float be heated and adjusted? Needle might need replaced.
Great vid. My G22 is chugging under load. Has new plug, fuel filter and air filters. No vacuum in fuel tank, no cracks in fuel lines has gotten steadily worse over time. Thoughts?
as usual a very helpful video. Personally I am not interested in a live stream because of time limits however I am very interested in a Q & A video because we can use it anytime we want to refer back to. You could also refer back to past videos to see how you repaired any of the questions. And by the way you don't look like a Geek.
Thank you for the feedback. Live streams would still be available for viewing after the live part is over. I don't know what you mean by I don't look like a geek. I didn't know they have a specific look.
@@Kevinsgolfcarts You are not holding a laptop in one hand and a blank look all over your face. Keep it up I learn a lot from you and ofter go back and rewatch older ones that apply to my cart.
What size are the nuts that hold the intake to the carb? I just inherited my grand fathers non running g22 and those nuts are missing. I found the one part number but no description. Did you say they were 12mm?
Kevin I'd love a q&a. I used your videos as I work on these things for the people at my campground. I've got 6 of them at my house for the winter to do. Have a question have a cart in the spring to fix I didn't have time to get to. G22, airbox fills with gas, float needle stuck open??
You need to check the solenoid with a volt meter. Check and see if you have 12v on the starter/generator side of the large terminals. The solenoid can click but not make a connection internally when they fail. The negative probe of the meter should be on the negative battery terminal and positive probe on the starter/generator side of the solenoid. Step on the gas pedal until the solenoid clicks. If you have 12 volts, then the starter/generator may need brushes. If you have no volts, replace the solenoid.
Take it apart and clean it. There really isn't any rebuild kits available for standard golf cart carbs. If cleaning doesn't work, you will have to replace it.
Could you tell me how can I tell if my g22 is not in the neutral position installed a new motor with newer cables and all hooked everything back up the way it came loose to but no crank
What is the trick to get these carts to run in neutral for testing like you did in the start of the video? Or have you got it jacked up off the ground so it does not run away?
There is a yellow cam under the seat on the shifter. Pull it towards the engine and rotate it 180 degrees. Shift the cart into neutral and it should run. Repeat this to return the cart back to normal service.
Can you tell me what the part is that has the label/bar code on it? Mine has a melted hole on it close to the muffler and I'd like to replace it as it is quite loud.
Hi Kevin. Just bought my first Yamaha. 2005 g22. Got it running. Runs good! 152 psi. Burning oil/smokes bad. Will a bad valve seal make it smoke this profusely? Thought I'd get your opinion before I rebuild it. Thanks.
Make sure its not overfilled with oil. These engines only need 1 us quart. Does the smoke only happen at startup and then clear up or is it continuous? If its continuous, then I would say rings and time for a rebuild. If its only at startup and then clears up, valve guide seals and would need head work. Yamahas are splash lube so I doubt valve guide seals. Its also possible the carb was stuck open and flooded the engine at one point. This sometimes will cause fuel and oil to push into the exhaust.
@@Kevinsgolfcarts thanks Kevin. Have my own machine shop. Just ordered parts. What's your experience with the valve guides on these? I don't have that size in stock. Can I grind the valves or is there a nitride coating on them?
I don't do engine overhauling on site. Its not practical for me so I send them out for complete rebuilding. It usually ends up cheaper and I know its done correctly. Your best bet would be to search ebay for yamaha golf cart service manuals. They usually have them dirt cheap and they should have all of those specs.

So I have a g22 what would cause the air box to fill up with gas and it to puff white smoke? I’ve changed the air filters the fuel filter the fuel pump the spark plug only thing left is the carb..
Carburetor is stuck open causing the engine and crankcase to flood. You're going to have to pull the carb, clean it, reinstall it. The carb is flooding the engine. You will also need to drain and change the oil. I'm willing to bet that the oil is over filled and contaminated with gas.
Is there a gasket between the carb and the head? I took my carb off and I didn't see one. Which may be causing my problem. When the cart is on half choke it runs great with the gas pedal fully down. As soon as I take the choke completely off the cart Boggs down with the gas pedal fully down.
