Today I’m taking the first step into getting dreads, you have been a true inspiration to me and now thanks to you I’m finally taking a step out of my comfort zone being bold and getting dreads cause that’s what I want thanks for everything you done and keep up the good work I love watching your vids.
Thank you Gunther you are so knowledgeable on Dreadlocks I have watched you off and on for a long time now and you have grown so nicely. I'm proud of you ✋🏾😊 Blessings to you. I'm sharing this with a very good friend who has long curly blonde hair and she loves Dreadlocks and would love to have her hair in locs❤❤❤ Thank you
I'm planing on getting a hightop set and I'm soooo hyped for the journey. I have almost the Lil skies hair type and I'm wanna get my ones like his. Thanks for the vid.
Appreciate this video. I took my locs out that I had for a year a little over 3 months ago and I wanted to use a different method to start my locs over.
PC BankrollRichh they just weren’t locking up? But I’m in the process of locking right now, it’s so fire to watch the transformation and I was like y not upload my dread journey to UA-cam, Gunther did high key motivate me to do it💯
Mikeeey 300 Nah they were locking up but I didn’t take good enough care of them early on in the process so I ended up losing most of my locs in the front of my head lol. But you right, watching the process is 🔥🔥🔥.
I actually started with braids like 6 months ago. It took a while to come together but they really look nice now. And there no buildup in them cause it was braided for like half of the length of each dread
I didn't use any of these methods, I twisted mine. No crochet hook, no backcomb, no twist and rip either. I also just did partial. They will probably take longer to look exactly like dreads but that's okay.
I got about a 2b hair type and been using a microfibre cloth for less than a Month now, Yea my hair is an absolute mess at the moment but it’s now sectioned itself out and started locking up, I was my hair every other day and it’s still staying together, once they have Formed a bit more I will crochet hook to keep them tidy..any method can work for your hair, It’s just trial and error
I'm coming up on 6 months with dreads tmr and I wanted to ask, when should I stop towel rubbing? I stopped about after 2 months and started again at 4 months. I stopped again but I just wanna know when I should stop.
@@treeofawareness. water loosens your curl pattern which can sometimes make immature dreads unravel. People usually go a while when first starting dreads to allow it to lock up. If you have a way to ensure your hair won't unravel then wash it as much as you want.
I've watched all your videos regarding this question, but I'm still a little on the fence on length... I have straight hair around 4 inches long... At what length do you recommend attempting to loc straight hair? Greatly appreciate you and all your advice, Homie!
@RaeSolo ! Thanks so much for replying! I really appreciate the advice! I have an appointment with my boys sister at the beginning of next month for her to twist n rip... I'm freakin pumped! 😁
I want neat, tight, and smallish dreads but I have between 2a and 2c hair. Even 3a in some sections. Are those cute neat lil twists/locs achievable for my hair type? My hair is also pretty thin. Thanks.
I have type 3 hair (mostly 3b or so but it varies a little across my scalp) and I used the twist n rip method to start mine and I transitioned into semi freeform. It was easy, and no preemptive damage to my hair itself (backcombing seems to have issues with that from my and other friends experience). Biggest thing with twist n rip is that you might end up with a slightly braided look in the early stages of he locking process. However, I'd disagree with you on the use of gells and/or wax. When hair can move freely and isn't glued, for lack of a better term, to the strands next to it, your hair locs up better. And I've heard countless stories of people using WAY too much leading to other problems.
Red Dread Redemption you really don’t understand how hair type works do you. Your hair is not 3b anyone who has 3b will be black or mixed race. 3a - 4c is African textured hair
@@xavierp7783 can you back that up? What hair chart or reference at you using? More than willing to admit when I'm wrong, but I'll need more than just your word.
For freeform, can we use any shampoo as long as we dilute it? Also, will moisturizing shampoo be bad for dreads? And one more thing, is it fine if my hair is soft during the freeform process?
I can't answer the first one but moisturizing shampoo has ups and downs but better off using it after 2 weeks. And its fine if your hair is soft that means their clean and moisturized
Obeel 0516 since ur doing the sponging method I would say sponge it but that’s just a guess I’m not experienced with sponge rub, I did the coil method for my dreads
Obeel 0516 a long time ago I did sponge my hair like back in middle school all the way down to the scalp but I took it out the next day but I did it with a sponge and my hair was wet but the more dry your hair is the better it can loc, so wet your hair to put the dreads in then let it be dry as u twist it
if I wet my hair (not wash just rinse without shampoo or product) will anything happen ??? Because right now my dreads haven’t touched water in weeks and I don’t know if that’s the correct way to approach free form dreads

Chill a little. And how often are you washing? Your hair needs time for the knots to form and having your hair in water, or under running water will loosen them a bit, especially if they're young. I seriously wash and separate mine when needed, but other than that I don't do any maintenance. While using a crochet hook can help, it's not necessary but it depends on what look you want to go for. I'm fine with having a wilder look, but I know a lot of people want theirs very manicured.
@@reddreadredemption7139 I like a cleaner look but i wash like twice a week and only shampoo. Idk I know my hair grows fast but I wouldn't think the tightening I just did should be gone in one week
@@EJThaChiefa fair enough. And that wash period seems fine. Have you thought about using a sea salt spray? It's pretty easy to make yourself. Apply it to the roots a little before you shower (if left in for too long it can make your head really itchy). It helped my set tighten up I the early stages
