I purchased your template last week because of flu season. I showed it to all of my team teachers and we all have different covers but matching binders now. Best purchase I've made by far.
I really loved this. Four years ago I used this and was selected for the job. I seek a revise version. For a new portfolio. This so appreciated you and your channel. It really provides holistic information for all teachers and all others.
I switched careers and just got a teaching position for next year. All thanks to you!! Your videos have been extremely helpful for me. I'm excited to start this new journey.
This is exactly what I needed! I am in mid planning for a long-term sub for my maternity leave and this video was so helpful! I have been very overwhelmed with what to include so this gave me a great jumping off point! I can't wait for your next video on this subject!
This is so thorough and helpful. My school is closed for at least 2 weeks right now because of the Corona virus. So I will use this time to get my sub binder made and my Google drive organized.
This video couldn’t have come at a better time!! I bought your sub plan binder materials in the summer and I am finally taking a day off this week so I started putting together my binder. Thanks Michelle!! ❤️🍎
I love this video!! You make it efficient! I wish my Dad had done a sub binder when he was teaching!! Yes he was organized like you, but he was required to attend numerous meetings outside the school district and always had different substitutes. I believe in not punishing the whole for the actions of a few. I felt that effect multiple times in the classroom as a student when some of the others were not on task and it was reported back to the teacher. One teacher I remember in particular put us down repeatedly as a class after subs; I felt so down about myself and not part of a classroom community!!
I am a teacher but not as organized as you are. LOL I watch your videos create as you explain things and am very happy thay are so easy to follow instructions. Keep up the great work although I know you are better of economically now and working at your own pace. Such a brilliant resource ! I wish you the best.
As a substitute the more hands on the assignment the better. Monitoring a bunch of students on computers can be very difficult and very boring for students.
Good Morning, Michelle! Oooohhhhh! I’ve been wanting to create one of my own Sub Binder and I still haven’t yet! Anyway, I am soo proud of myself for going to bed at 10, and getting up at 7:30 since it’s now 8! But it will take some time for me to get back into the norm!! ❤️Aaron
I feel like things were so much more simple when I grew up. Possibly because I grew up in a small town, possibly because any subs would have known each one of us and our parents and we knew them, they treated us like their own children. If we misbehaved we were quickly put back in line and we all respected our teachers because of it.
We are not allowed to include 504 and IEP information in ours. You are right to point out to check on your district policy on what information can be given out. We have to also include emergency plans in ours. I just include worksheets that kids have done and struggled with. I am blessed this year to have a class who just comes in and does what they are supposed to.
Fun fact, in my district the Fine Arts Director over the music department is actually named Ms. Music haha. She never got married, she was born with it, majored it in, taught it forever, and then became the fine arts director over the entire district’s choirs/bands 😂
@@alecia_lea When I was a child the music teacher at my elementary school was Mrs. Fidler, at that age you don't think about it but when I got older you look back on it and kinda laugh not at the name itself but how with that name she was a music teacher.
Although I already have a substitute binder, I have a feeling that my binder is too wordy. I know what I'll be updating over the summer. 🤗 Thank you, Michelle. 💓
Hi, Michelle! This looks amazing, working as a substitute I would love to see this! Also as a future teacher I can’t wait make one of these myself! The only thing I would add is the policy on when to send a student to the nurse! If you have bandaids in the room then they wouldn’t necessarily need to go! This is awesome! Thanks!
8:37 made me happy. Students with epilepsy don’t get well represented in mainstream classes. I was the only one I knew of that had epilepsy. But I had my first seizure in 7th grade.
This video have some awesome ideas! I am a college student studying elementary education and I remember how I could tell which of my teachers were and were not prepared for subs. Sub plans are super important and sometimes overlooked by teachers.
You are so Organized. Everything is so clear. I really have to do this, cause I have a high school teacher whom I come to visit after college class, and I just hate to see her struggle. Once this is all over I'm going to help her.
Teachers in England just send an email to the head of department with whatever work their class is doing that day and the head of department gives it to the sub, and this happens on the day the sub is having the class 😂😂😂
I have a folder very similar to this, but I don't think even one substitute has read through even 10% of it. Most just look for the roster, the plans and call it a day.
I think this is great information. Just keep in mind that it can be overwhelming for subs to have time to look at the binder right away when they only have 20-30 minutes to prepare for the day. So have what is most important on your lesson plans and tell the sub to refer to the binder for more information. I know this from experience as a sub being overwhelmed by the amount of information sometimes in sub folders and notes. However, I also have days where I'm not given the information I need and wish the teacher I'm subbing for left me information like you do for your subs. Also, don't forget to mention food allergies in your binder and in your sub note especially if the sub and the kids shouldn't eat nuts, for example, in your classroom. That is always a good thing to know right away.
Videos like this are really helpful for me. I’ll be student teaching in the fall & spring so I’m favoriting videos like this so I can be double prepared lol
AMAZING!!!! I am a sub in Albuquerque, NM and I WISH teachers here were as organized as you! This sub binder is amazing. Almost every classroom I was in this year never included numbers to the front office or directions on how to use the phone. In the schools here, we have call buttons in every room but I always hesitate to use them because if its for a behavior issue, this forces me to be loud and allow everyone to hear me. If I could contact by phone, at least it would be a little bit more discreet. There have been mostly good plans but I have had some where it just got the whole day off wrong with little to no recovery :/
Also, adding the pronunciation of the children’s names would be super helpful as well!! It’s embarrassing for the teacher and the student when we mess it up.
As a new substitute (as in, my 3rd day tomorrow) THANK YOU! I've only experienced 2 days, but the job on Friday was honestly a nightmare because of how un-detailed the plans were, and no behavior plan was in place. I was trying to wrangle 45 (YES, 45) 1st graders with incredibly vague sub plans and no behavior management. If every teacher did this, my job would be so much easier!
Subbing is sooooo difficult when there is a lack of plans. I have only done a total of about 20 full days. I showed up for a middle school shift 30 minutes early, was sent to a class where they actually did not need me because the students were in testing inside the cafeteria all day, went back to the front to be sent to a class where I actually was not needed until 4th period, then got sent to a classroom where the teacher was leaving to go help with testing. She told me to "print a crossword puzzle or something and get a student to go make copies." I spent the day with students who speak using 70% profanity as their standard language and desperately tried to keep the noise level at a reasonable level. Security had to come to the classroom twice for noise complaints. 😭
Can’t even imagine having lockdown, earthquake or tornado drills. I live in NI, we have never had a school shooting and don’t experience earthquakes or tornados
When do you create the sub-binder? I will be at a new school and do not have any of this information yet. This looks like a lot of work once I have started school. Did you work on your binder after you went back to school? Thank you
Quick question, you mentioned that you don’t give kids consequences if they misbehave with a sub when you are out. What would you do if a child had acted up very badly and the sub was unsure how to deal with it and told the student that they would leave it up to you to decide what consequence should be given? I know this happens quite a bit where I come from.
How can you get more teachers to see this and use it? These are great! The only thing I would add, and you did it but didn't say it, is to use 14 pt font. Last year I think all the attendance sheets were in 8. Us older subs have a hard time reading this. Excellent post...
Hi Michelle, I was wondering was the differences were in your Sub Binder (Which I’ve purchased about a year ago) and the Sub Templates that you have in your store.
I saw in the comments from an older video that you use AGBossLady font and I believe the other one you listed was Bromello. I looked on my available Word fonts and I did not see either one. Do you know if this is something that has to be purchased separately? I'll be starting my teaching internship this fall so I'm looking to start preparing binders and outlines. ☺️
Love this!! However, confidentiality laws do not allow us to list students with IEPs or 504s in our state, and the only health concern we can list for a guest teacher is the student with a peanut butter allergy (specific to our district).
Hi, Michelle - your videos are stunning. I will need to be teaching remotely via video due to corona virus here in NYC. How do you present in the "webinar" style, where you are speaking to the camera, but then alternate to present the contents of your computer screen? The other features are great, too: picture in picture, logo in the corner, etc. What software do you use? And what webcam? Sorry if you've covered this in the past - I did some digging through your channel, but haven't found the answer (yet!). Thanks for all your great and inspiring content.
I’m a sub and they are recommending we should create our own google classroom for each grade level We haven’t received training. What do u recommend we should have or do in our virtual classroom
The amount of times I've walked into a classroom with sticky notes and loose leaf written "plans" is cray hahaha No idea what their schedule is, expectations, kids with allergies. nothing. STICKY NOTES.
In my school (left in 2018), we just had a random substitute and the teacher would just leave a note of where we were up to, then we would usually just ignore everything they were saying😂😂
Everything you use (your valuable time to do )for your substitute teacher 🛑 LoL This would be wonderful Picture seating charts , how to use the school phone system, organized in a binder 😱. What’s your name? Are you supposed to be the line leader? No music 🎵 today it’s Tuesday. Lol Walking into a class of strangers aka children can be intimidating 😱 if you have no idea what the lesson plan is Right???!!!!! I hope teachers take advantage of this template and follow through. Make the day of your substitute teacher. I had a teacher leave Full size candy bars, coffee COFFEE and treat yourself if you like. I usually leave sweating, and exhausted with a Smile 😊. My students really appreciate My effort.
I’m substitute teaching while finishing my B.A. if I walked into a classroom and saw this waiting for me, it would bring tears to my eyes. 😍
I'm not even a teacher, I just love the channel.
Holly Compton me too!
same ima child
SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holly Compton me to I’m a kid
Sameee I'm 13💕
As a substitute myself, I LOVE when teachers have a sub binder handy.
I purchased your template last week because of flu season. I showed it to all of my team teachers and we all have different covers but matching binders now. Best purchase I've made by far.

Hi, I also teach kids in Seoul, and love to see how other teachers in the world are so passionate about school and kids 💕
This is exactly what I needed! I am in mid planning for a long-term sub for my maternity leave and this video was so helpful! I have been very overwhelmed with what to include so this gave me a great jumping off point! I can't wait for your next video on this subject!
As a sub we need these badly! And so many forget them!
Am I a teacher? No. Am I still watching? Yes.
lol

Very organized; great templates to help any subs feel prepared. Thank you! Your positive perspective is refreshing!
This is so thorough and helpful. My school is closed for at least 2 weeks right now because of the Corona virus. So I will use this time to get my sub binder made and my Google drive organized.

My class when someone coughs: 👁👄👁
Sub binders are consuming, but helpful. I would like to revamp some of the sections of my binder. Thanks for a great video, as always!

Keep up the great work although I know you are better of economically now and working at your own pace. Such a brilliant resource ! I wish you the best.
I just stick a bunch of assignments on Google Classroom and let the sub know the basics... works great. :)
❤️Aaron
YAY! I love Sundays. Thanks for another great video. 💙
I love your books on the back counter! Fish in a tree and out of my mind??? Two of my favourites!!!!!!

Dang, first the cupcake analogy, then the donut poster, now I’m hungry 😂
I’m literally a senior but I love watching ur videos 😂😂

Teachers in England just send an email to the head of department with whatever work their class is doing that day and the head of department gives it to the sub, and this happens on the day the sub is having the class 😂😂😂
That is basically me... I am never going to put this much work into a sub. Possibly a long term sub.
Thank you so much for this information. I have had a binder for years but I would love to update it

I always thought of myself as organized but I have a long way to go!
What fond did you use?? I love it
This is perfect!
Thank you so much for your amazing vids!!! Please please please can you do a video on intervention or extra help for struggling students?

With covid-19 and many schools starting distance learning very soon...., do you have any tips on video communication programs like zoom?
Thank you!!!!! 💗
Which binders do you use & where do you get them? xx
Hey Michelle! Here in Scotland my school is on lockdown because there is 2 cases of the coronavirus so we have to self isolate. ❤️❤️
You should do a video about essentials for student teaching. What to bring, how to dress up, best bag. 😊
Hi. I sm Aaliyah, you look like a teacher i followed on tik tok. I was also wondering if you could tell tricks for division and multiplication. 😊
Hey where did you get your teacher bag?

would love an updated portfolio video!!
