Far better than any over rated German brands. Mercedes, Audi and BMW have lost the plot when it comes to quality, reliability and customer service. The aforementioned manufacturers should no longer be classed as premium brands. The only premium brands are Lexus, Genesis and top model Mazdas. My favourite premium brand is Lexus. Good review

@@Klown84 Wrong. Take the badges away from each and a Mazda CX60 is far better quality, performs better in reliability surveys and will be cheaper to buy and run long term. Go check out reliability surveys on Audi they are bad.

Top two reason why I bought my mazda: 1. Interior, great seating position and nice leather. 2. NO CVT transmission!!!, this is why I avoid other Japanese brands.
Honda has no cvt transmission now.

@@thetruthful8388 Honda’s hybrids technically have a “direct drive” transmission BUT their non hybrid Civics, Accords, HRVs and CRVs have CVTs.

My first CX5 and first Mazda! Switched from a Lexus and don’t regret it. We have the Exclusive line model and it’s just great!
It is so lame that exclusive line doesn't have leather interior.

Had my Mazda 3 e - skyactive X for 6 months and it has the best quality interior of any car I have had and it never drops below 45 mpg, will be keeping this car a long time.
What car are you driving😭. My cx-5 turbo premium gets around 20mpg I’ve had mine for 2 months now
I'm in the UK mpg is different to other countries.
@@jaipatel1712 You can't expect the 2.5 Turbo to compare to the Skyactiv X mild hybrid in a Mazda 3, besides, 2 months, you haven't even broken in your car yet! and the CX-5 Turbo is a heavy car, at least 300kg over the equivalent European Mazda3.
Had my cx5 for 5 years and nothing has gone wrong ! My previous bmw 4 series was a different story and traded in after 9 terrible months. Dealer great so will get another one.
I jumped on the Mazda band wagon a while ago after owning luxury brands from Lexus, Acura and Infiniti. We’ve owned a Mazda6 Signature Turbo, CX-9 GT, a CX-5 Signature Turbo and my 6th Miata since 2001. For the price of a Honda or Toyota you can have the luxury brand quality at a much lower price. Mazda’s reliability is stellar too!

I have always driven american. Two months ago bought a Mazda cx-5 2015 and I love it. It is comfortable, roomy, handles well, great pickup, very good gas milage.
Excellent review. You mentioned a firm ride. I like the firmer suspension and heavier steering because it makes my driving experience more engaging and fun to drive. Never boring.
This will fill the bill.its way more fun to drive than anything in its class, quieter too.

Update after 1,5 months ownership and 5.000km. My expectations have been exceeded. Its a very well build car and relaxed to drive. All systems work really well and the daily use is without miracles like in some today super Hightech, but faulty cockpits. I think its not particularly sporty with its 6 speed automatic and diesel, but excellent cruising comfort. Really happy so far. 👍

Great timing Tish and great review …. just looking at either this or Volvo XC40. Do you have a favourite?. The test drive shortly will be the decider. Just wonder about noise, speed and comfort. I love the cabin/dashboard etc. PS. You get the powered lift gate in the Exclusive line too… that seems to be the sweet spot for features.
I just bought a used 2021 CX-5 2.5L Turbo with 32,000 miles. Extremely plush vehicle, and very peppy engine with front wheel drive. I'm very happy with this purchase and hope to own the vehicle for many years.
I'm in Tenerife, just ordered Homura Plus version, only another 14 weeks to wait for delivery.
2024 CX-5 is really fantastic SUV. I usually drive Texas road, and I feel really confortable!
We just bought one, very nice car. I was in a 20 year old E 500 and the interior feels like a high end car. 0% for 60 months sold it.
I love my CX-5 with same beautiful red exterior color. Mine has parchment white leather seats. Very upscale and elegant vehicle.
Brought a CX5 2020 plate in November last year & i love it just so easy & a pleasure to drive. Petrol, manual, its not high spec and I wouldn't change it for anything 👍
i have a 2023 signature cx-5 awd with the 2.5t engine Canadian specs. it has real wood panels inside. it has 256 hp and 320 ft lbs of torque on premium fuel. and it is made in Japan. i noticed the 2.5t engine does not appear to be available in Europe.

Good review. I have a 22 plate Sport Black model. Have been really impressed with the quality (definitely on par with the premium brands), the standard tech (electric tailgate, sunroof, blind spot monitor, rear collision detection, camera and adaptive cruise control - never had the latter before and it’s gone from being a luxury to a necessity- motorway journeys are a breeze). Customer service so far has been really good. The only downside for me is power - the drive is great - however the 2ltr engine lacks power for such a big car - if Mazda offered more power or a hybrid model (fingers cross for the next model due in 2025 I think?) then they would be on to an absolute winner. I’ve never owned a Mazda before but I’m fast becoming a convert - audi, BMW, Merc and Volvo need to significantly up their game or loose more of the sector to this brand/model. It’s a very stylish SUV - have a drive, you’ll be very impressed.
Good review, Natisha. Just bought a new Mazda 3 Takumi after years of owning Audis. The 3 is far, far superior in looks and interior quality, the Germans seems to have lost the plot.

Lovely review. Way beyond my price range but always loved Mazda except their association with Ford.
A couple of months ago I bought the top range CX30 model in this colour. Couldn’t agree more, Mazda interiors are sublime, I traded in a Mk7.5 Golf that looked archaic by comparison and creaked and rattled compared to the beautifully built silent rattle free cabin in the Mazda.
Owned a 2019 CX5 Sport and I loved it, almost a perfect car. My only complain is the driver seat position (according to me) is not too much comfortable for tall drivers and the bottom seat tend to be a bit hard on longer drive than 200 miles. And even if not bad, fuel consumption it is not on par with competitors nowadays. I believe that Mazda should now replace the model with the CX50 (an updated version of the CX5 that since 2018 did not changed a lot) but a sale rep told me that in Europe there is not request for a bigger a more modern model! It seems strange to me but maybe he meant that they have still a lot of CX5 to sell...
After my Honda CR-V was rear ended & badly repaired we decided to trade it on a Base CX-5. I found some weird omissions like omissions like no auto folding mirrors, no DRL’s, poor rear leg room & most importantly the 2.0L motor is thirsty ( I hired one for work ). For $2.5K more the CX-8 HAS THE 2.5L, motor more leg room & seats 7 which we didn’t need but have used. It’s not as sporty to drive but much better for the money. BTW I live in Australia so models do vary
The U.S. version of the CX 5 has the 2.5 liter motor. The folding mirrors are not relevant to me, but that six speed automatic real transmission is. We aren’t concerned about the rear leg room since we also have a Kia Sorento. The Mazda is for fun and if you want to ride with us you’ll have to “suck it up”. Actually, the leg room isn’t that bad if you’re six feet or under.
I bought three new mazda 6 and 1 new mazda cx5 and really mazda, true to say is a fantastic car to drive and their shapes and looks are the best , the way they drive and handling is much much better and no comparisons to Toyota,Honda or Nissan. Mazds is the best but sadly no one realises that and no one buys them. Bst of Luck Mazda and keep the good work going on . Zoom Zoom zoom

my first experience was with a 2016 CX5 2.2D, a bit disappointing with reliability. I hear the later diesels are much better now so thinking about trading it in for same spec but newer one
Bought my 2016 AWD sport nav auto in 2019 with 22000 on the clock. keeping in mind lockdown, I have now covered 71000. Since purchace I have had to have both front headlight clusters @ over £700 each replaced and a complete set of injectors replaced (fortunately covered by the extended warranty) but at 66000 miles had to have a complete engine de-coke at around £1100 (not covered by extended warranty) which I am told is a common problem with diesel Mazdas. Dont know where they get their milage figures from but I get around 35 mpg with a mixture of motorway and urban, which I thought was quite good for an AWD 2.2 automatic. The car is a pleasure to drive but take my advice, if buying used get that extended warranty. One thing I will add is Mazda customer service is second to none.
Just test drove this Mazda, and all who have found the steering to be heavily weighted to steer. I have found the perfect solution, turn off the Traction Control 🚙🏎. Using one finger you can now make tight turns with ease.
I recently got one of these, but in Mexico, where the top of the line model uses a 2.5Turbo engine, it gets 256hp and 320lb-ft of torque, great power, not so great fuel economy (but I don't care), as opposed to this one I got cooled seats instead of heated seats. The rest is pretty much the same as this one.

Have bought 2023 cx5 premium and I simpl loved it. Used to have a honda crv and Mazda is 10 years ahead in terms of engine, transmissions, interior.

My mate bought one recently the 2.0 petrol about 170bhp manual gearbox but it’s so sluggish, you really have to work that engine hard to make any progress. Diabolical for a car costing so much and with supposedly 170bhp!

Damn, the Cx-5 is either dead silent inside or the mic work/audio editing is top notch.
It’s not dead silent but it is very quiet even at highway speeds on a rough road, Mazda really upped the sound deadening from the 2021 CX-5 and onwards.
Available on Motability; it was my favourite for the interior quality and layout. However, the engines aren't turbo and hp is 165. I live in Scotland and need something that can manage hills. You notice the lack especially if the car is full.
I don't think these cars would endure for long the damp weather of Scotland .. the undercarriage, doors and wings have minimum rust proofing.
I live in central Europe and was contemplating whether to buy one, but most owner reviews here state, that rust becomes a major issue within the first 3 years of ownership. I would be interested to know, whether the latest Mazda models received better anti-rust protection than their successors.
I have a UK 2021 2.0 Sport petrol with (only) 163hp and I know what you mean - but the engine is smooth and does shift if you follow the gear change prompts - or simply keep the revs up - not what I am used to doing after driving a diesel for 14 years!
I bought a CX-30 for the exact same reason: luxury interior, beautiful design & colour, and great value for money. The thing with German cars is, you notice a significant difference if you live in Germany. Mazda Engines here are down to earth, so no 2.5l turbo, while all German premium brands will offer some serious engine power. BMW, Audi, and Mercedes are built for the German autobahn. On a worldwide scale, it's an edge case, but going 150-160km/h in a BMW or Audi is a totally different feeling. They really sound deaden their cars, and you can whisper to your passenger and will be heard. The suspension will also feel less rough unless you drive in sport mode. However, I don't like that they still use so many hard plastics inside. There is also a huge difference in the price, which leads to the question: is it really that much better? I don't think so.
I’m not sure about the turbo engines in the CX50 and CX90. Have to watch the reviews for the next couple of years to see what problems they have.
I’ve had my CX5 sport for nearly three years and had a BMW X1 X Drive before it and apart from the four wheel drive, the Mazda just about beats the BMW in every way, especially the quality of the interior where to have the sport seats in the BMW was an additional cost option.
Great car just watch out for the diesel models if not doing long journeys regularly.
Bought the previous model nearly 4 years ago, probably one of the better cars I have bought. Not perfect, is any car, great engine and gearbox, comfortable, plus 50 mpg, I'm not sure I'll be swapping it for a new one, would rather keep it, but you never know, because there isn't any other brand I will drive from now on.
Couldn't agree more, I've rated Mazda Cx5 better than the German counterparts.
Now just imagine how the new 2025 model will look. Mazda is killing it. We can forget about the germans if we care about our time and money.

You really don’t see a bunch of these on the road. In Rhodium White, ours stands out…really. We’ve already had compliments.
What you do see is tons of RAV4’s, CRV’s, Sportages and Nissan Rogues.

Odd. My 23 Mazda Takumi 2.5 AWD has a touch screen. Had it nearly a year but only found out last weekend.

Here's old Beemer guy who swpped to Mazda CX-5. My late dad had Beemer's from early 70's. Now bad quality, cheap materials and ugly look, all of them turned me off. Great engine, long travel consumption record is 4.5 liters / 100 km.
Quality of plastic and interior inside are much better then in honda or Toyota which are more expensive
I am the proud owner of a CX5 2016.5 same soul red colour with all the kit as standard, super car. I have seen examples recently of a merc GLE about 3 years old and the leather drivers seat was all lifting in the seat, very poor and my leather is still like new, 80k miles later.
I'm torn between one of these brand new with the 2.5 petrol engine, or a 3-year old, low mileage XC60 D4 🥴

I love this car but why such high road tax (£645)? Nissan Qashqai is £255 and the Skoda Karoq is £255. Why so high, is it because its emissions are high?

My UK 2021 Sport instrument cluster has a digital centre section including the speedometer that looks analogue but with many clever digital features and additional instrumentation
We have a 2019 CX5 from almost new, its a lot of car for your money. wealth warning, you wont want to sell it even in 10 years !
No such thing as ‘plug in hybrid diesel’ in the cX60. It’s a mild hybrid only!

CX60 - pHEV is only petrol 2,5, it doesn't come with diesel phev
Disappointed to see it has a click wheel to control the infotainment screen. My Mercedes C class has that system and I despise it.
You can also change it in the settings to the touch screen. It comes from the factory not defaulted to touch screen.

Mazda does not offer blacked out lower window trim and emblems during initial order or as parts to order. 👎 Many people are vinyl wrapping but mor work and money. You should have the factory choice from the beginning.

CX5 is the best compact SUV for a family. Except it is not very quick, but who cares
It’s not exceptionally quick, but it more than adequate.
If you had opted for the turbo version, you would get “quick”.
As a German I love my Mazda CX-30. Would never buy a German car!!

Is a full hybrid? NO. Mpg not great when compared to Honda or Toyota.

Seats in mazda cx5 are hard as bench ,and infotainment are dated.
Its a good car but a CX9 is far better

Yes, it'll cost you £4000 and we'll throw in other free garbage you don't want.
Mazda has never been a luxury car maker - they produce off-the-shelf cars. The larger engines are not fuel efficent, the smaller ones are slow. I can tailor an Audi or BMW to my specifications, but Mazda like so many others, force you to pay many thousands more to a trim level you don't want and options you don't want just so you can get an upgraded stereo. That's why they can't beat the Germans. And then there's the cheap afterthought design. For example, why is the heated steering wheel button on the passenger side of the centre console? On my German car, it's on the steering wheel, where, let's face it, you'd expect to find a steering wheel heater. Mazda, like so many others, is a cheaply designed car for the mass market.
