So often do we take without giving a thank you and it’s become almost a ‘norm’ to just ‘UA-cam or Google it’ to find something and use it without a second’s thought. We forget the time and effort taken into putting something together and then placing it, free, for all to use as they wish. Guilty of it myself, slap on the wrist, so this is a big thanks for putting this video together with tabs and chords and good visual. Makes learning a song sooo much more easy. Cheers
I remember this was the first song i learned to play in guitar when i was a kid and i was going to lessons in the church. I was like 9yo and this song took the whole summer along with music lessons for a single presentation. Now i got a guitar again in my hands more than 20 years later and im getting back to it. Already got a couple songs and practicing this one.
Hey Unknown! Just read your comment from 10mos ago & hope you are still staying with it! I love Guitar & started when in my 20's. Life happened - unable to find & get to a Teacher, only had Songbooks w/some Chords. So there was always this undercurrent of Regret over the next 40 yrs that I gave up. Now I'm trying again for the LAST time as Time IS running out! Life really IS short!! So DON'T GIVE UP! You are SO fortunate with all of these amazing Tutorials. (especially Dan!) Had they been available back in the early 80's, no doubt I would have been a skilled Player by now because the desire was there, just not the available Instruction. I hope you're still back at it! (Just some friendly encouragement from NYC)
So Do I . I learned to play this amazing song years ago when I first got the guitar in my hands . Now, Nearly 20 years later I ' m getting back to it and it feels great!
Same, and I had already learned this finger picking style previously so it was an easy transition. Spent hours today without noticing since the toon is soo soothing.
Hey. I've been f######g around trying to figure out the complete song format and this fantastic tutorial comes along. My prayers are answered. Thank you so much.
Took me 10 min to get the good majority of it and i owe it to you along with spending the last 2 days learning the interlude of to live is to die by metallica. It definitely helped my finger picking lol.
I close my eyes Only for a moment, and the moment's gone All my dreams Pass before my eyes, a curiosity Dust in the wind All they are is dust in the wind Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind Oh Now, don't hang on Nothin' lasts forever but the earth and sky It slips away And all your money won't another minute buy Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind (All we are is dust in the wind) Dust in the wind (Everything is dust in the wind) Everything is dust in the wind The wind
Been playing piano/keys for 40 years (singer/songwriter). Decided to try my hand at accoustic guitar. Signed up for lessons and a few months in realized I was being tought classical not contemporary (maybe I should have been a tad more specific regarding my goals to my instructor). I switched to contemporary style which also included picking. Currently (re)learning tablature, so this lesson is helpful. Nice voice and instruction. To others struggling out there, if possible: go with a dedicated instructor. The rigor and progressive repetition is something you cannot easily find in a UA-cam video. This video's tabs are great, but unless you know how to plant corn, you will have a hard time farming. Just sayin'. Thanks.
Is wonderful that you don't just put the tabs but the rithm that too many guitar teacher forget to put . This makes everything easier. Thank you very much I appreciate your lessons very much. You are a great musician.
Thank you for sharing this tutorial lesson, i really love this song...as i attended a cremation of the remained of a fellow OFW here in UAE. This song comes into my mind, as the cremator handed the ashes to the family...a great lesson in the Bible from ashes we came and to ashes we returned.
Can't thank you enough for these videos 😊. Thank you so much Dave, you're the best🙌🏻. Your tutorials are the only ones I can understand. The effort you put into them! You've helped me so much in my guitar journey. Will continue to learn from your videos in future too. Just wanted to say this.🙏🏻 Appreciate these videos so much. 🎉 Thank you. Please never stop making new videos. I look forward to your tutorials. 🥳
Thank you for the work you've done all these years, man! I remember I used to listen to this song A LOT when I was in high school, about 10 years ago. The outro for some reason was the part that gave me chills. I think it fits perfectly with what the song is about, it makes me feel the weight of the ephemerality of life.
Just got a request to learn this song and I was not expecting to come across a tutorial so well done. This is exactly what I was hoping to find and then some. Thank you so much!
This is one of , if not THE, best instructional videos on this timeless classic that I have ever seen! It is helping fill in the blanks on the parts I have just "glossed" over when I play this (and as a result primarily for my furniture and dogs lol ) . Thanks to you I am fixing years of errors and am hopeful I can finally add it to my public performance repertoire. You just picked up a subscriber ! Thank you thank you thank you!
I cant believe i left 2 note per bar out of this song. Ive always just kind of noodled through it but I actually got this down pat today and its waaaaay cooler than the way I was messing it up before, lol. Thanks a ton for this lesson here. Its really really good.
Dave, you are totally awesome!!! I bought my first guitar one year ago in August 2019. I signed up for my second guitar instruction course in April 2020 which is a great program BUT one of my community members in that course lead me to you. I started following your FREE instructions about 5 weeks ago and I’m just about to conclude learning my second song from YOUR instruction!!! That will be the ONLY two songs I can play after a year of “learning”. I don’t know how to thank you for this!! As soon as this COVID nightmare ends and I start working again, I will definitely join your program. I can’t even begin to imagine how you’ll simplify basic instruction when you make complicated song instruction so easy. Thank you so very much from your clear, exceptional teaching and the unimaginable work involved to put these stellar song lessons on You Tube. Guitar Zero 2 Hero ...... You’re the Hero dude!!!
Hey Roger! Wow, thank you so much for your lovely comment. Incredible kind of you. I can tell you put a lot of thought into it and I'm absolutely delighted to hear you've been finding my videos to be helpful. Definitely looking forward to having you on board in the future :)
Great job! I LOVE the dual view of the picking and tabs. At 0:38 there should be a G chord on the tabs... saw it on the fretboard. And again a G chord at 1:12. Thanks again.
Thanks so much, 90% of tutorials online (stuff with visuals) is just the intro. I have already spent years playing the intro for fun as one of the lasting guitar things I can play. Now i can finally play the whole thing much appreciated ✌️
This is a very useful tutorial ! I did find a small error. Where is says “All my dreams”. It should have a G/B over “my”. He plays it, and it’s on the chord graph, however it is missed on the tab. No big deal, it still the best tutorial I’ve seen, thanks.
Thanks for the video, I didn’t plan on learning to play guitar but since I have seen a video that explained Travis picking with this song it seemed so fun that I had to try. Starting from not playing at all, after a month of self finger flagellation whenever I had the time I was finally able to play the tune while singing, in no small part because I could come here to help me learn. I still find it incredible how the guitar sounds so beautiful and harmonious when you hear it without knowing how much of a technical tour de force this is until you’ve played it yourself…
Wow! Great Wonder teacher! If I can do it anybody can! Only thing lacking are the words to song so we could sing along W/him! Sure wished I had your voice! Do you give voice (singing.) lessons?
Excellent Job! Thank You So Much For Teaching Me The Proper Chords, Notes, & Keys To Play In This Song!! It Took Me 6 To 8 Weeks, Before I Was Able To Get Right! But, I Got It Now! Thanks To Watching Your Amazing Guitar Skills!! You Are Awesome! Now, I Can Play This Whole Song For Everyone! Wow! We Should Collaborate On Some Songs Together Sometime! That Would Be So Cool! Thanks Again!!
Try gently plucking 2 different open strings to get the feel, and the numbers represent the fret number from the neck, and where your fingers should go. Also the "o" means open string, meaning your fret hand not touching the string to be plucked, just pay attention which notes , strings these are. Hope that helped unconfuse you and happy playing, all the best XOXO
Great Tutorial! I`m close to finish my learnings for this song. One problem for me is the Am/G. Very hard to get a sound out of my G-String. Ah yes and one thing: In your tabs is a failure, I guess. Chorus 2 ends with Am and G/B in your tabs. You play it here with D/F# and G at the end.

People will dislike videos no matter how good they are.
Learning this song is fundamental! learing that fingerpicking patter alone is usefull for any cord progression and its in a lot of songs.
I close my eyes
