Unironically, I think Valve needs to be treated like a recovering addict here. Be supportive, celebrate good progress when you see it, but always be conscious of their old habits and ready to call them out if they start slipping up. My guess is that most of them have become lazy af thanks to all the money Steams gives them and the commodities and work policies they also have. That's why they dont even bother to do anything.
It won't ever be over. Tf2 always had bot problems. It just got really bad in 2020. so now bots are probably gonna be more stealthy again. Also let's not forget regular cheaters. They used this entire situation to hide there cheats better. As people got complacent with cheater=bot. Keep your eyes open.

Generally, that's how paranoia among people goes, it's pretty infectious. If they keep trying to get back in, and keep getting shut down, it'll be pretty natural for them to fall deeper and deeper into paranoid delusions.
My opinion lies with the fishmun. Wait a bit, watch what they do. This is step one. Voice your supoort of them, but just your voice. The money can wait for when they put the effort. They dont get the cash prize until they hit the finish line.

I disagree. I've been on the dev side of things, and the business dept. people are very impatient and fickle about putting money into projects. If they don't see some kind of uptick in sales right away, they'll deem it a failure and pull the plug right away (assuming an actual budget was allocated for this). Spend your money, just stop if it looks like this is a one-n-done. The real problem is a lack of discipline on the part of gamers. If you boycott, you have to boycott _all_ Valve purchases, not just TF2 ones. You have to make it clear why. The business dept. people were always the most oblivious, short sighted people I've ever had to work with. You have to make it painfully clear to them.
That's why I originally said that if we wanted to see a difference, we all needed to basically take down the Steam Marketplace. The only way to make Valve really care would be if suddenly all of TF2 stopped being profitable all at once. Either they fix things, or they kill it.
Probably the reason why they pulled the plug after the catastrophe that was meet your match. They tried to turn tf2 into a modern comp shooter and rather than roll it back they just dropped it when it didn't work (after finishing the already in-progress jungle inferno)

I have a feeling the project got handed off to a new guy that really didn't understand the TF2 community that well, and how different it is from a typical shooter. And since it is so demoralizing when a project fails like that, if you have the option, devs won't come back to it. And unfortunately the devs at Valve have that option. Pretty soon a project gets a stink on it and even the new guys are cautioned away from it. So it just dies on the vine unless someone gets a boot to the ass and is told to work on it. Which is why you have to make the money people care about it so it is more than just a guy or two working on in during their lunches.

according to the guy who goes by Pirate Software (who's a game developer)doing ban waves every 3-6 months is actually a smarter way to handle bots for a couple reasons. 1. it makes the botters complacent so that they have to scramble to make adjustments and figure out how set up the new bot stuff as opposed to constant bans which keep them on their toes to keep patching their bot programs. 2. it's within the time frame for Paypal to allow chargebacks so that people can get mad at the person who made their bot program and have that person have a *really* bad day. so next time that the game gets bot-ridden, it may just be that Valve is just waiting for the opportune moment. that being said, this is also from one voice of someone in the industry, so there may be more to the story

I agree but this isn't going to be a priority right now. Focusing on making the game playable is what I'm most concerned about right now, the idle bots can come later.
They need to destroy the economy. Prices are stupidly high due to monopolies over third party sites. People shouldn't be demanding hundreds or more dollars for virtual items, especially those a vast majority of the community haven't even had the chance to interact with

Not going to lie, I think we can let them stay, I mean they're not hurting anyone besides the player counts on steam. That's at worst a little misleading, but nowhere near as destructive as the Aimbot Cheater Bots we've had to deal with.
I personally got completely steamrolled in a few games today. Considering that it was by actually skilled players, I REALLY don't mind it one bit. I would rather lose because the other team is better than win because we had a cheater.

VAC is a reactive anti-cheat, not a proactive one. It's never gonna stop cheaters before they launch the game since that directly goes against what Valve as a company believes in (breach of privacy and anonymity). The best way to prevent cheats isn't even on the client-side, it's on the server side. Having the server perform more checks to make sure things are right instead of believing whatever the client tells you. Speed hacks used to work because your client would tell the server you're further than you really should be, and the server would just go "Okay, that makes sense" where as now the server goes "nah, you can't be there that quickly, you're only here". Server-side detection is a far better and bullet proof anti-cheat method than ANY sort of invasive client-side anti-cheat, especially since Vanguard (what is considered the best anti-cheat for some reason) is only marginally more difficult to break through than VAC or EAC.
And plus it's not that hard for valve to bring back voice chat and chat and calling for medic for free to players. Another thing is annoying me is valves where is the community bug fixes valves like you promised TF2 community a year ago!
I think the guys at Valve said screw it, as they realized that the treadmill is good for their health in the long term. We may have won the first major battle, but the war's not over yet!

The only bot I have seen for the past couple of days is at 3 am (eu) on a casual lobby that got kicked within like 30 seconds, good job valve you did what you were supposed to do.

It would also be satisfying if the bot hosters finally gets caught, arrested, and sent to prison. And that kinda reminds me… Remember the time Gabe Newell tricked a German hacker who stole the source code of Half-Life 2 by luring him to a location to be arrested in because he thought he was being hired? Not saying this is how the bot hosters should be arrested because that trick wouldn’t work as the situation is very different. Just calling back that old story.
It just feels so good to have the game be playable again, first match I joined was a collective heavy with the picnic taunt. We just need to make it clear that our support for valve and our willingness to put money into the game is entirely dependent on them keeping up with the treadmill work. I can’t really do that because I haven’t bought a TF2 item since covid happened, but it’s still really important. Maybe I’ll buy a taunt or something once it becomes clear that valve is committed to fixing this issue.
I think Valve took the comments of "if your going to make a new game with the same protections, it'll be dead day 1 due to bots" seriously and cracked down on them finally. It wasn't for TF2's sake, it was for the new releases sake. Even so, it did benefit TF2 so 'shrug'

I think a Boycott won't be effective unless we have stronger leadership. Right now, everyone has their own ideas for when and when not to boycott, but we need everyone in agreement for a boycott to be effective.
It's like the Calm before the Storm because everything is calm and TF2 is fun with no bots and cheaters, but the storm is coming, you don't know where and when, but you can feel it and think about it of how it unfolds.

Valve actually has a pretty good reason to keep bots off the platform as a whole, not just for TF2. Ideally they develop a system that affects the entirety of Steam that keeps bots off it entirely. Steam becomes a better platform, and TF2 gets fixed as a side effect.

We haven't been given a new problem, we've been given a dilemma. Both options aren't the best, but those ARE the only options. Also, even though I didn't get much communication with Valve, they said that this was all just a small part in general player safety. Meaning that they're likely doing this to increase security on ALL their titles if they can. Might be thinking too much into it.

this shouldn't be a sign that players can become complacent again like saveTF2 we need to make it clear, if Valve wants us to keep playing they need to stop neglecting the game, they need to keep up its maintenance and make sure bot invasions like this never happen again (that and make their servers better as I tried playing casual one night and almost every server I joined crashed not long after joining so no casual is not all good now) if they want out money they have to work for it. I'm glad someone said it, there's some that are like "YES, WE WON" but no, there's a ton more to why we're up and arms about this. The last time they made even a singular GAMEPLAY related change was 7 years ago, and it brought a lot of its own issues as is, the gameplay needs to be at least tuned, I don't care bout new weapons or anything at this point, just change up the outliers: The absolute joke to use weapons (Bison, Pomson, Gas Passer etc) and the OP ones (Kunai, Diamondback, Vaccinator, etc) for better or worse, as long as someone was put on it that can change up the game in meaningful ways we are all there for feedback about whatever they do with them! I'll be honest, the classes themselves feel fine, except mayyybe spy and heavy... just changing up the weapons would be such a godsend in the mess that followed... If anything, they could fixup Comp, make it viable to play but I have no good solutions for that, because as much as I would like Highlander to be there the queue times would be atrocious even with a playerbase I imagine. Maybe seasons, and unique cosmetics for at least getting a rank in comp (and maybe some extras for getting higher ranks) would at least encourage people to TRY it and give proper feedback. Highlander would be dope though, I'd wait out the queue to try pub lobbies of those...

They need to destroy the economy. Prices are stupidly high due to monopolies over third party sites. People shouldn't be demanding hundreds or more dollars for virtual items, especially those a vast majority of the community haven't even had the chance to interact with

VAC is a reactive anti-cheat, not a proactive one. It's never gonna stop cheaters before they launch the game since that directly goes against what Valve as a company believes in (breach of privacy and anonymity).
The best way to prevent cheats isn't even on the client-side, it's on the server side. Having the server perform more checks to make sure things are right instead of believing whatever the client tells you. Speed hacks used to work because your client would tell the server you're further than you really should be, and the server would just go "Okay, that makes sense" where as now the server goes "nah, you can't be there that quickly, you're only here".
Server-side detection is a far better and bullet proof anti-cheat method than ANY sort of invasive client-side anti-cheat, especially since Vanguard (what is considered the best anti-cheat for some reason) is only marginally more difficult to break through than VAC or EAC.

This happens almost the exact same thing during the save TF2 movement. This security measure doesn't have to be weekly or even monthly, but more than once in a blue moon situation.

The only bot I have seen for the past couple of days is at 3 am (eu) on a casual lobby that got kicked within like 30 seconds, good job valve you did what you were supposed to do.

It just feels so good to have the game be playable again, first match I joined was a collective heavy with the picnic taunt.
We just need to make it clear that our support for valve and our willingness to put money into the game is entirely dependent on them keeping up with the treadmill work. I can’t really do that because I haven’t bought a TF2 item since covid happened, but it’s still really important. Maybe I’ll buy a taunt or something once it becomes clear that valve is committed to fixing this issue.
I think Valve took the comments of "if your going to make a new game with the same protections, it'll be dead day 1 due to bots" seriously and cracked down on them finally. It wasn't for TF2's sake, it was for the new releases sake. Even so, it did benefit TF2 so 'shrug'
well tbf CS is encountering the same bot problems yet they also choose to fix tf2, so I'm pretty sure they want to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
@@wraithxd2458 CS from my experience has far more cheaters than actual bots. The only bots I see are the training bots that fill deathmatch lobbies because no-one plays deathmatch.

I think a Boycott won't be effective unless we have stronger leadership. Right now, everyone has their own ideas for when and when not to boycott, but we need everyone in agreement for a boycott to be effective.
It's like the Calm before the Storm because everything is calm and TF2 is fun with no bots and cheaters, but the storm is coming, you don't know where and when, but you can feel it and think about it of how it unfolds.

Valve actually has a pretty good reason to keep bots off the platform as a whole, not just for TF2. Ideally they develop a system that affects the entirety of Steam that keeps bots off it entirely. Steam becomes a better platform, and TF2 gets fixed as a side effect.

We haven't been given a new problem, we've been given a dilemma. Both options aren't the best, but those ARE the only options. Also, even though I didn't get much communication with Valve, they said that this was all just a small part in general player safety. Meaning that they're likely doing this to increase security on ALL their titles if they can. Might be thinking too much into it.

I'm glad someone said it, there's some that are like "YES, WE WON" but no, there's a ton more to why we're up and arms about this. The last time they made even a singular GAMEPLAY related change was 7 years ago, and it brought a lot of its own issues as is, the gameplay needs to be at least tuned, I don't care bout new weapons or anything at this point, just change up the outliers: The absolute joke to use weapons (Bison, Pomson, Gas Passer etc) and the OP ones (Kunai, Diamondback, Vaccinator, etc) for better or worse, as long as someone was put on it that can change up the game in meaningful ways we are all there for feedback about whatever they do with them!
I'll be honest, the classes themselves feel fine, except mayyybe spy and heavy... just changing up the weapons would be such a godsend in the mess that followed...
If anything, they could fixup Comp, make it viable to play but I have no good solutions for that, because as much as I would like Highlander to be there the queue times would be atrocious even with a playerbase I imagine. Maybe seasons, and unique cosmetics for at least getting a rank in comp (and maybe some extras for getting higher ranks) would at least encourage people to TRY it and give proper feedback. Highlander would be dope though, I'd wait out the queue to try pub lobbies of those...
