Underappreciated little gem of an album.

Another great forgotten band. Not VDGG level, but so beautiful and pleasant. Lorelei is a great song. Anyway if someone likes melodic basslines, Wishbone Ash is THE band…

"Argus" is a go to album.

Simply a superlative track from an exceptional but underexposed group. One of my all time favourites.

I have "New England" and really like it. Try "Mother of Pearl" and especially "Runaway", I think that you'll love that one. The whole album is worth owning; I'm glad that I bought it. 😎

I don't know anything about this band except what I just heard. This guitarist is quite accomplished. I'll have to give them more attention.

There are 2 guitarists Philip, dont know too much about the band but think they were the originators of the twin lead guitar sound

Laurie Wisefield doing the lead work on this one!

@@simonthemarkWisefield is such a great guitarist. If he had stuck with prog-rock after Home, I am certain he would’ve gone down as a legendary guitarist.

New England is a record I realy like - maybe their most underrated one - Yes, Argus is a classic, but there a fine songs on other records too - love mother of pearl from that one - lorelei got an nice folk jazz feeling without getting too complicated. The Wisefield ara may be less loved but I don´t think these records are bad. Think it´s sad to reduce 50 years of playing great musik to one little moment and dismiss all after... And I´m glad on this chanall I don´t get only reaktions to the same 3 songs all other do too....

Listen to the bass solo in Handy the first album and that's all it takes to say he's uniquely special. Takes bass playing to another level.

Thanks for the introduction to an *awesome* song. I posted it to my facebook page and already have a like (from somebody who is so quiet I forget he's there). I've listened a few times more. & You're right to notice the bass and point out that great opening.

They were absolutely great on their first three albums Wishbone Ash, Pilgrimage and Argus. But in 1974 their guitar player Ted Turner left the band and they could not hold the level as to be heard on this track from 1976. Obviously Wishbone Ash shared the fate of so many groups who had to replace their mastermind.

Martin Turner wrote the bulk of the songs not Ted Turner (the guy that left) Lauri Wisefield was a very capable replacement for Ted and they went on to produce many excellent albums.

Personaly I feel that tho the first 3 albums were great, The Laurie Wisefield era was the High point of Wishbone Ash.

@@phillipnicewaner4480 Yes bought the alcamist album when he joined WA. He still pops into some of Martin Turners gigs. Saw him playing lead for Tina Turner and I saw he played on the war of the worlds live stage show. A real talent.

@@keithsmith9635 Yeah he is. I’m really sad that, these days, he is doing more rhythm work with Snakecharmer. His Home days showed how absolutely inventive he was as a lead guitarist.

Wishbone Ashes album Argus couldn't be more relevant now , with the terrible situation in Ukraine. It's a reflective document about war and how timeless and futile war is , it has a medieval setting, don't get this mixed up with prog rock fantasy.
Listen closely to Argus ,with Ukraine in your mind...
    Take care 🙂
