What does Kyrie eleison translate as? Lord, have mercy In the New Testament, Kyrie is the title given to Christ, as in Philippians 2:11. As part of the Greek formula Kyrie eleison (“Lord, have mercy”), the word is used as a preliminary petition before a formal prayer and as a congregational response in the liturgies of many Christian churches.

@@greek8goddess True--it was the only Greek used in the Latin Mass (Roman Catholic) which gives the phrase ancient respect. In Christian services, the "Kyrie" is a part of the liturgy--the order of the service--even to this day, though now it is often sung in the vernacular--ie, "Lord have mercy upon us, Christ have mercy upon us, Lord have mercy upon us."

What does Kyrie eleison translate as?
Lord, have mercy
In the New Testament, Kyrie is the title given to Christ, as in Philippians 2:11. As part of the Greek formula Kyrie eleison (“Lord, have mercy”), the word is used as a preliminary petition before a formal prayer and as a congregational response in the liturgies of many Christian churches.
These guys were the emblematic 80s production band. I learned so much off this record. You want more unadulterated 80s? Scritti Politti! Do it!
My favorite song as a teenager....still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it!
kyrie eleison - Lord have mercy.
Kyrie Eleison means "Lord have Mercy" from the Greek and Hebrew. Love your review!
That's All by Genesis, you won't be sorry ✌🏻
One of the things I am most thankful for in life was that I was a teenager through the 80s. Brings back so many memories, evokes so many emotions, it was a turbulent time for me but 80s music was my refuge and saviour.
I first heard this song when I was a kid and I thought he was saying carry a laser
Glad I'm not the only one 😂
LOL ! That is hilarious 🤣! Man you brought tears to my eyes.
Still disappointed it’s not about lasers
@@FairlyCharmedonEtsy me too. 😂 lol
Thank you so much for posting, i really enjoyed this.
Not a bad song on the whole album. Worthy of an album review.
Welcome to the Real World was definitely a great album. I call Mr. Mister a one hit album wonder
Love the album but I like their follow up album, Go On, even better!
It is a prayer 🙏 Kyrie eleison, meaning "Lord, have mercy!
God Bless
80's cool - guys that could play music - guys that could sing - guys that could harmonize - I'm happy to be able to recognize the work involved with this
Kyrie eleison is a Gregorian chant in Latin (Lord have mercy). 9 years of Catholic school with Mass in Latin. Monday through Friday & Sundays. Way back in the day. I loved Mass in Latin. It was sad when Mass changed to English. It lost it's beautiful feeling.
it ' s ancient Greek. I'm Greek :-)
Was waiting for you to get to this! "Kyrie elison" is giving glory to God. "Lord help me."
It’s actually Latin. It means Lord Have Mercy.
@@evaczarnojanczyk1432 you're right
Um. No. It's Greek.
@@Angel-rq3pi Um, Greek language same meaning.
I can listen to Kyrie Eleison 5x non-stop and still yearn to listen to it again 5x. So magnetic and uplifting. #80sRock
😱 I’m SO EXCITED you reacted to this song!!!! I loved this song so much when it came out I swore I would name my daughter Kyrie if I ever had a daughter (I did and Nope I didn’t name her Kyrie but I tell her the story frequently). You are AWESOME 😎
Well, probably it's good you didn't name her that, since to a Greek person you would be calling your daughter 'Mister' or 'Sir'. Might be weird having to go up to a girl and say 'Hello, Sir'.
I've loved this song since I was a kid back in the 80s. We used to have it on my dad's jukebox.
One of the most misheard lyrics in history..."Carry a laser on the road that I must follow......" ;)
lol
@@same_ole_lemonz4195 This is funny but true!
#1 is "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" (Purple Haze Jimi Hendrix)
Oh Lord, yes. I totally sounds like that to a kid!
This is a song that brings back memories of living out in the country when I was in middle school.
Seriously good vocals from Richard Page. He was picked to sing in Ringo Starr's All Star Band.
Simply wonderful 😊
"The Church - North, South, East and West", "The Church - Lost My Touch", "The Church - Numbers"
Perfect songs! Need to react!
So right, saw them live a few years ago and they hadn't lost a step, they were incredible. Paradox and anything from the Priest = Aura album are all wonderful songs.
@@sentimentalelephantsamusic9730 this songs not from "Priest=Aura" but im agree, all songs are wonderful but this 3 songs most beautiful then another.
Love love this song. Lord have mercy on this road that I must travel.
"Kyrie eleison, down the road that I must travel
Kyrie eleison, through the darkness of the night
Kyrie eleison, where I'm going, will you follow?
Kyrie eleison, on a highway in the light"
Kyrie - Wikipedia "A liturgical Christian prayer' (Seems like you hit the nail on the head, Mel! :)
I love how open you are to everything.. its very refreshing. Thank you sir
How about something from The Supremes to honor Mary Wilson? One of my favorites is Nathan Jones. Some other folks were asking for Stoned Love.
Mr Mister were the equivalent of Toto. Session musicians playing together under one banner. I believe there are friendships between the two.
Kyrie Elesion is what he is saying and it means Lord Have Mercy.
I heard it meant God be with me
I stand corrected ]:P
In the South it means "Lawd Ha' Mercy" 😉
Yes, it comes from the Greek language
You nailed it buddy...it is a prayer...very uplifting ❤

This song is so good. I've always loved it. And it's especially great for playing on a road trip...perfect road song.
