momentinpassing i think even if you don’t like drawing, doing it will greatly improve your paintings. I think it’s important to work at a lot of mediums
Mine is that i don't know what to draw then i just put my pencil on the paper and the boom still had nothing to draw... Lmao... Memory problems even though young
"Maybe you can visualize it, but you can't draw it." It's like he punched me right in the stomach. Time to draw another 1000 boxes in two point perspective.
Translation: “Draw every day, draw until you puke, then draw more, until you pass out, then inject adrenaline into your chest and keep drawing, until you die. Then come back from the dead and keep drawing.”
RIP Master. Your humility and skill were hand in hand, and set you apart from everyone else. Even a week before your passing, you took the time to smile at me saying Hi, and said it back, and was graceful to each and every fan. Took a picture with me that I will cherish for a life time. Thank you, and I will never forget you, and the world will never either. Your passion, and skill will live on for the ages. Rest your spirit, Master, and see you later!
The reason a lot of people quit is because they only want art on impulse. Meaning that they don't actually technically are willing to do what it takes to get where they want to be, they just want it now and only now. The truth is it takes a lot of sacrifice. Sacrificing time, other hobbies, social life, memory capacity, etc. If the feeling to illustrate isn't an ever lingering one, you don't want it. So build yourself, draw way too much and after doing that for a couple of years that's when you'll realize whether or not you actually want to draw. This applies to pretty much anything that takes time, effort and patience. Anyway, great interview. What Kim says isn't really surprising, however it's always nice to have someone tell you anyway to reinforce what you're doing. EDIT: My comment is manly directed towards people who want results quickly and complain when they don't improve because they have done nothing, or not enough to get there. Also, UA-cam doesn't ping me anymore if I get responses.
I think it's also important to not only focus on the end product since it likely wont always turn out how you wanted it to. Especially if you're a beginner. It's important to also enjoy the process. If you don't enjoy the process and end up not liking the end product either then you won't enjoy drawing. I personally enjoy the process of drawing more than the end product no matter how good it turned out. If i didn't enjoy the process of the drawing then i probably also won't like the end product because i didn't enjoy making it.
Herzen Yes I agree. It can be a real puzzle to try to figure out how to get something right, and part of the process of drawing is learning how to draw something; so you have to be willing to draw from life and reference to build that library otherwise the process of your drawing will get frustrating and you’ll never get past that wall.
The way he speaks so humbly, like he isn't one of the greatest to ever do it. He clearly strived to improve much more going forward and knew he had more to offer the older he got. Such a shame he died at the age he did. RIP

rip Kim Jun Gi, I will always miss you. I definitely miss the times going to comic con and just standing memorized, watching ya draw with joy at your booth for hours on end. It always amazed me seeing ya draw with joy all those hours on end. I'm glad I got to get a picture of you while you drew me in the sketchbook collection 2018 I bought at the time. I As well as allowing me to take a picture with ya back then. Comic Con is really not the same without you in presence in a way. I miss watching ya draw with joy. When you have talent sometimes it can be difficult for you to explain everything and most of it becomes invalid once you’ve been doing it for as long as he has been.
I have an on/off relationship with art. Mostly influenced by a family that discourages any activity that would not bring in big money. Now I'm in my 30s and lately have been going back to the basics. I hope it's still not too late for me. I am self taught and it matters to me to improve on doing the stuff I love.
it is never too late buddy... all the very best for your art journey. We all have our ups and down...that's where you learn to appreciate things in life...👍🏻
It's crazy how much work it sounds like he put into visualizing things. While there likely is a decent amount of talent within him, I always thought, either you can visualize or not, nothing to be done about it. But he even worked on that.

I started drawing when I was little, can't even remember the age. Did some painting classes, learned how to play guitar, became a tattoo artist last year, 16 years old🤠. I've always loved art, every kind of it. I just wanted to live for the art, it is and has always been my dream ever since I was a kid, but people always told me that art would never pay my bills (I was just a KID.), so I gave up. Now I'm 17 and I really want to follow my dream, I'm studying and working hard for it and I hope I can do it 🤞
Ah patience, my old enemy.

Ah school, my old enemy

Good luck, it will never end - but it offers fun and pain at the same time. Wouldn´t change it for anything in the world.

BAD AT PARTIES Not really?
Freaking hell, does dying twice makes the effect more effective?
another translation : Just Draw.
so basically just do the same as in Whiplash but drawing
Draw until it becomes an obsession, like it is for him.
