I’ve carried a handyman since I was 15, it came with me through 23 1/2 years in the British Army and I still carry it today. It has been so incredibly useful. I’m never without it.
I have most of the popular Victorinox Swiss Army knives....... But the Handyman is my go to 95% of the time. When camping, fishing or the such...I take the Champ!!!!
victorinoxes in the 91mm size seem to always have the two given layers of the two blades and the two openers. when shopping for this class and size i ignore those tools because they are in practically all of the models. the differentiating factor are the middle tools. in my system the swisschamp can be in a pouch but not as something in your pocket unless you decide to go with a pocket suspension clip carry. the one you carry depends on what middle tools you need or want. sometimes you end up carrying two that complement each other…like the craftsman with angler or fisherman because one of those has pliers and a scale tool with metric and inches. i use two pliers for electronic work like mini hands. then, carry one leatherman for heavy duty work like the wave plus, surge, skeletool cx or whaever. victorinox tends to be for more delicate work and leatherman for everyday rugged use. the right tool for the job sometimes needs to get over carrying 1 item when you have two pockets, you can carry a better toolset. also in my system a craftsman complements the swisschamp when you want the breadth of victorinos tools since you have the dual pliers and better dexterity with the smaller one. same when i carry a craftsman and a angler or fisherman… the smaller one is for dexterity and the bigger one is for added backup tool support. if you don’t need much for a secondary, alox models look really cool too.
I looked at both and got the Swisschamp specifically for the inline Phillips, even though I don't really want or need the magnifying glass and fish scaler. I am not sure if you are saying the Handyman would be perfect if it had that extra layer inline Phillips/magnifying glass (because I don't see how else they could incorporate it)...in other words, a Swisschamp minus fish scaler? If that's the case honestly the fish scaler layer only adds about 2mm so might as well just go for the Swisschamp.
@@TheInchii That's true I'd forgotten about those like they have on the Spartan and Huntsman Lite models...however I like the fact that I can wash my SAKs in water so I wouldn't go for one of those options.
I do edc swisschamp but i think ill miss the glass and probably the measuring capability. But i will go get a handyman when i can afford it and perhaps change my mind about daily edc
I have the handyman and the Arc, I carry the arc as my daily and the handyman man sometimes. I have a swiss army Philips instead of corkscrew on another and it's useless really. Most of the time the Philips isn't going to work do to the layout of the knife.
I do not have the Ranger here to compare to, but I am leaning Handyman over any of the ones that I have. What I really wish that Vic would make, is to take their Farmer X Alox, and add pliers and a file to it. That would be amazing.
@@SquireSCA You can buy a Deluxe Tinker and add titanium scales to it. Almost the same. Okay no file, but whatever, you can mod your handyman in to a titanium scaled beauty.
I have the handyman and it's great, the only compromise is the screwdriver, it has some, but they are all flat and bulky. I think the craftsman is the best overall because of the screwdriver instead of a corkscrew.
@@mrsaul3709 I agree, but they discontinued the Craftsman years ago and I could not find any new ones, so I went with the Handyman. Bet yeah, the Craftsman is EXACTLY the one I wanted and would have bought.

I have a number of different Victorinox but the Handyman is my favorite and I find the pliers perfect for delicate tasks.
Yeah, its my current EDC fav

my EDC is a yeoman mechanic - large blade, combo tool, inline phillips, mag glass, pliers, scissors
The Handyman would be perfect if it had the in-line Phillips like the Swisschamp...
Yeah, that is literally all it needs.
@@SquireSCA 100% agree!

@@simonh6371 they can also put online Philips with little LED 😀

Deluxe tinker
Look for the Craftsman dude. I got mine off an Ebay auction for $29 bucks. It’s the perfect knife.
Bummer Victorinox don’t have a service where you could order a SAK with the toolset you want.
Then we wouldn't buy so many SAKs off them in our never ending quest for the perfect EDC. Do you own only one SAK?
About the 2D Philips: I use more than the 3D on my Super Tinker. Just because its inline.

take a look on the swistech 11 in 1 ?!?
Handyman or ranger - that is the (EDC) question
I can't decide between the swiss champ, handyman, and ranger

@mrsaul3709 I totally agree. I was thinking of getting a handyman and swapping out the corkscrew for the phillips.
Seems those tools are Brand new 😅😅😅
Few of them are... When you have like 70 knives, no single one gets a ton of use... haha
