@@zacislerThat’s another thing that should be mentioned. Awd can be an advantage from a dig if launch control is properly used, but even then, rwd car would be quicker off the line if it hooks.
Besides that, less weight and drivetrain losses as well as a good driver and that gap would close considerably.

@PapiAndrey agreed but RWD cars with over 400hp will NEVER ever hook up as well as high powered AWD cars on the street. A PROPERLY prepped track with PROPER DRAG RADIALS is a completely different story. But aside from that there is no competition on the street even with proper Mickey Thompsons on the back.
I agree AWD is unstoppable on the street with launch control and especially some transmission tuning if automatic .

I have both of these cars. My M240i is a 23 and the same color but my S650 is black. Both cost within 2k of each other. The M240i was 59k and the Mustang was 58k. I had the new M2 but bailed on it when it showed up and went with the M240i. The M240i feels faster to me than the Mustang. I can't believe I ran across this test because I have wondered which is faster.

Had a 22 bmw xdrive for year, traded it in when the m2 came in,

The M240i is faster in everyday driving because the Mustang needed to hit approx 90mph before it started walking the BMW. Driving around town I never hit 90. On a roll the Mustang is obviously quicker which surprised me.@@DWH300

Agreed, again it's his wife's car and he has no idea how to properly race it (e.g., sport plus + S sport transmission + DSC dynamic). M240i's quarter mile should be between 12 - 12.2s regardless of road condition, while that Mustang can maybe do 12.4 -12.5 on a drag strip.

@@Robert-cp9sc my 2023 m240x drive with 3 gallons of e85 and jb4 map5 22 psi of boost barely runs 11.9 in the 1/4 . 1.67 60 foot and 7.50 to the 8th. 0-60 is 3.3 seconds. bone stock its nowhere near 12.2 quarter mile. more like 12.5-13.5. the launch control is tricky, if you let the rpm bounce off the limiter it drops down and if you dont release the foot brake at exactly the right time, rpm etc its hard. if you have xhp flashed with a custom tune, you can go 12.2 on stock car on pump gas with some wind behind you lol.

Those B58s are monsters with a simple tune. I was actually considering a m240i but ended up with a s550 pp1. On paper they have the same 1/4 but the mustang has a higger mph. Either way great cars!
It really just depends what you want. The s550 is a great platform for force induction and power as well as the bmw m240i. Bmw is better all around and Ford is the street cruiser / beast

BMW can average 30 mpg easily too if you drive it normally lol... mustang nowhere near that.
both are awesome, can get 32 mpg out of the 10R80 sticking to limits on a cruise, not even trying for good mileage, just an amazing platform!!
B58 inline 6 with a single turbo. The M2 has the S58 motor i believe but its twin turbo instead of single. Power numbers for the BMW's are underrated and actually put out more power than what's listed on paper.
B58 and s58 engines are completely different engines.
S58 is an M-motor completely different to B58 and had this been an M2 he would've needed binoculars to see it up-front

3:02 it’s not the same engine as the M2 common… the B58 is a single twin-scroll turbo and the S58 is twin-turbo along many other differences

for someone who doesnt know bmws its easy to mistake the b58 for an s58. s58s have yet to come close to the b58 in racing though. the s58 is destroked bigger bore, high rpm less low end torque, thats why a built b58 destroys built s58s in drag races. b58 has a very long stroke from factory.
Put the JB4 back on and race again. I had the JB4 on my 135i with down pipe, she moved out.

The M240 is a far superior car in nearly all respects. In the drag race the BMW has launch control that wasn’t used in this upload. It handles better, it’s quicker, it’s more reliable and will hold its value better. It also doesn’t try and kill you when you push it to its limit which is a bonus.
The B58 engine has an inline 6 with a single turbo and twin scroll function. The way BMW designed that turbo in mind was with minimizing as much turbo lag as possible by making one scroll larger than the other.
A simple tune will probably wake it up and make it faster than the mustang, as much is the new mustang is cool, ill have the m240i, that b58 has a lot of pontencial

I just bought Dunlop sportmaxx2 summer tires for my GT,trying to hook, best I could do was a 4.2 to 60 spinning according to draggy... not exactly fair to use Mickey Thompson cheaters.... but my point is Ford needs to get these cars out of the hole better...races are won in the 60 foot... great video as usual..

There is a motortrend video showing the AWD m240i is faster than the 2021+ Supra. Crazy to see the Mustang is faster than both the Supra and the m240i.
Slowest M240i I have seen... They put sub 4s 0-60 times, and trap 113-114mph. The Mustang will struggle do even do 5s. CarWow beat a new M2 with it on the 1/4 mile, and should have been an easy win from dig and roll.

Even without using the launch control the BMW crushed the Mustang to 60mph and it looked like it beat in the quarter mile as well. It was only over 100mph that the mustang pulled ahead.

I got a 435 x drive m sport tuned and I eat GTs and SCATs for breakfast. They don’t catch me and I always hook on a roll. Sports plus is the way to go.
The M240 is also carrying another 200lb of body fat, which will certainly have an impact on the dig. But is less of an impact at the top end.
Im a ford guy. Have had nothing but ford trucks and a first gen coyote.. and i love the 2024... but im fairly impressed by the bmw. 100hp less and roughly the same weight and it done pretty well.. id like to see the 2024 stang vs a TTRS or a 2024 M2 when they come out with their hp increase. Maybe someone reading this can line it up!
That's what I was thinking that m240i held that stang off to 100mph with way less hp and 2 less gears. The M2 would mop this stang I'd feel. S58 engine is the truth.
Its actually more like a 30 hp difference because the mustang has 400-410 wheel where as the 240i has around 380whp

Maybe the 240 is heavily DE-Tuned from the factory lol, because with a generic tune and downpipe they are mod 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Mustang isnt in the same ballpark but yet the video perception is opposite. Odd.

That Mustang with the 5.0 is impressive and sounds great. I've owned the 2 series bimmer and driven the Mustang GT and the 2 series has a smaller footprint which gives it a bit of an advantage for curvy mountain road type driving compared with the Stang.

I have a 2019 bmw 440i gran coupe with the B58 engine. Bootmod tune, down pipe, charge pipe, intake, and I’m right around 600 hp.
Man I'm a Mustang guy but I'm not a fan of the new exhaust.
The M240i won that race from where I am sitting. The Mustang only overtook it at well over legal speeds, making it's power largely irrelevant outside of a track setting. And even then it depends on the track. Anything technical the M240i will be the better car.

2024 M2 has 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, been tested by many UA-camrs. and its detuned from the factory. Imagine when it actually gets unlocked.. @@carbonm2
My problem with the M2 is its look. The front two big squares on both sides don't look that good, kinda boxy looking. The rear end also looks better on M240i. Just my opinion.

A good reality check. 0-115 and the bmw is faster. Just went to the configurator and built the BMW exactly to what I wanted …$55k. Built the ford and skipped a bunch of stuff, $51k. Yikes.

i have that exact same 2023 m240i , that car did not take off as it should, must have been in comfort mode or heat soaked. i get 3 cars out on a new mustang and stay three cars out unti i hit the 130mph governer.

Exactly, who wins from a dig to 25. 35, 50, 60 or maybe 75 or 80 i mean legal stoplight drag speeds (legal speeds) this is where i have my fun loads of it sometimes maybe several races a day (legal and more or less safe, roll racing has a few more variables, is much more dangerous and can land you in jail with a big fine at those increased speeds, i want to see them race say in a eight mile with recordings of zero to 60, 60 foot and who wins at the end of that eigth mile.😉

Probably twin spline turbo. That's whats in my z4 M40i. B58- 382hp, same as that. Twin spline is one turbo unit but it is split somehow inside.
