Audi vs BMW let’s goooo!
Mat’s lining up in the all-new BMW M240i, and he wants to see if this £46,000 2 Series has what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the £71,000 RS5.
So let’s check out the stats. As you can imagine, the RS5 has the ability to put down more power. With a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet, it can produce 450hp & 600Nm of torque. It’s also equipped with four-wheel drive, and it tips the scales at 1,735kg.
Then we have a BMW. It houses a 3-litre straight-six turbo under the bonnet, which can put down 374hp & 500Nm. It also comes with four-wheel drive, and it’s a bit lighter than the Audi, weighing in at 1,690kg.
So the RS5 has more power, but will it be an easy victory? And more importantly, will it prove its worth, given it costs £25,000 more than the M240i?! There’s only one way to find out - LET’S RACE!

I think Carwow should replace the comfort mode roll race with another roll race from 60 or 80 mph to test out the top end of the cars.
Yeah ikr, cus it doesn't take long to switch between comfort and sport so most ppl if they were to engage in a race would just switch modes
That has to depend on the runway, they domt always record on the same runway every time. So also think of the braking distance

that wouldn’t change much on the top end. You need more track on higher speed for acceleration and braking

Drove the M240i in March with a few miles on the clock. Felt too tight and flat.
Drove the same car today with 3k miles on the clock.....wow....the sound is lovely even with the GPF, and it felt like a different car.... stunning

None M version giving that full performance, higher class Audi a run for it's money . I'd say that is a huge success , and only shows how fast the M version is gonna be 👍🏻
M Version maybe gonna be on par with M3 GTR and even R32GTR.

Seems like Audi has buffed the RS for the new EVs
However the top audi models are much faster than any BMW cars, such as RS Etron and audi r8 performance

I’ve always thought something seems off with the sound when you Rev the engines. It’s as if you completely flatten the sound in post.
It would be better to just record a more raw sound as it would give us a better idea of how it would sound in real life.

The flattening you hear is called compression. That’s the only way you can record loud sounds (exhaust revs) without peaking the mic and blowing out everyone’s ears. A more “raw” sound would require incredibly expensive test microphones, and receiving equipment at the other end. Headphones, DAC/amp, and that’s IF UA-cam doesn’t destroy that quality in its infinitely unknowable pipeline.
@@alecwhatshisname5170 come on, neither of these cars are anywhere near loud enough to max out even a midrange mic.
If I can record playing metal drums on my phone with little clipping they can record the revs without compression.
@@alecwhatshisname5170 people are getting better sound recordings on their phones at car meets. I recorded a jag f-type v8 on my mirrorless camera with a cheap shotgun mic and it sounds way better than when they Rev up on here.
It’s as if they’re recording through 6ft of sound insulation foam.

Would you really notice the difference in day to day driving re acceleration between the BMW & the Audi, I expect not. However in your pocket, you certainly would.
I prefer the sound of the Audi rather than the BMW even with a limiter 😂

We're speaking about 75hp and 100nm more and only 45kg more...and the performance is truly so close....withe just a stage one for the 240i and it will make a real difference

RS5 really needs an upgrade I'm guessing some fundamental design limitations in the engine are stopping that from happening.

Absolutely agree on this! These recent drag races on here which include the RS5 are pretty embarrassing for Audi
As Audi is part of the VW group they have to fit in to the line up according to them. BMW is a stand alone company and has way more freedom to play with the power of their cars. People seem to forget this.
Well ,back in 1980-90 when the quattro came out with it's 2.5l engine ,that car was a peak of power and show. That engine is similar to the one in the new rs3 cars ,same 2.5l 5 cylinder engine ,but for some reason the new rs 3 have lik 200hp less ,than the legendary Quattro Sport .so i would love to see audi making the RS cars worthy ,Rs5 with 600 -650hp would be a better thing

Would be just a little bit fairer if you had the coupe instead of the sportback just because the m240 is a coupe. Nevertheless, bmw’s are always more brutal

As a BMW fan and driver, it surprises me to have a "not really" M BMW compete against the most powerful Audi of the 5 series... the little BMW still did well, M5 would probably be the right opponent for the RS5...

Oh well. The M240i is so much smaller, yet only very slightly lighter. BMWs are quite the chonkers these days. But still, with almost the same weight but much less power, it can slide, it can accelerate almost as quickly, and costs over 20k less. I think that's a win.
RS3 (same class) is cheaper and still beats the hell out of that M-thingie. Matt is comparing Apples and oranges.

Audi doesn’t need to beat bmws. They are more than fast enough for uk roads. Its more of a show off statement the people that buy these and audi look and feel better, especially against those ugly bmws. And Im a bmw fan boy
Personally I also think that the rs5 is weak in its class but the rs3 is also a tear lower and is equally fast as the rs5 so the line up is weird.

@@themadakh3229 a bmw fan would never say that crap. BMW looks much better and the rides aren't even comparable. I drove a rs5 and a m4 and if you like driving you will NEVER choose the audi. Audi understeers like crazy and the chassis is nowhere to be found in comparison with a the M4 chassis

Why the s3? The rs3 is a level lower than the rs5 and rs4 and the 240i is a level lover than the M4 M3 so it’s RS3 vs M240i and S3 vs 135i but that’s it with the crazy BMW fanboys they make stupid comparisons. The S3 is faster than the new 135i and the RS3 is faster than the M240i but the M4 is faster than the Rs5 what’s the problem.

I had an Audi RS5 which I sold for a 2019 RS3. Why you ask? For the dual clutch manual transmission.
Really dig the BMW. That with a tune and exhaust would be a terrific road car especially given the premium for the M2 which won't be under $75k.
NO matter how quick the BMW is with those looks it would never get chosen between the 2 (my opinion)

I’m thinking the reason why new Audis are so underpowered is because of the EV Lineup,The E-Tron destroys anything Mercedes and BMW has and that’s just the start,Explains the half arsed attempts for the new series of RS,Beautiful luxury cars but obviously not in the “engine” department.I mean their new advert is a new EV lol.
If price is the main thing you are considering and speed need to be close to this then the S3 is even a better option than the 240i
