- Rob Washburn kicks us some info about Bones "Rough Rider" Wheels.
Not every skateboarder has an ideal place to go and ride. We here at Bones wheels wanted to design a wheel that could not only be used for cruising and general riding but also to support skaters in areas without any access to smooth terrain. We believe we have succeeded at developing such a wheel and we have it here in our product line known as Rough Riders. They come in a variety of colors: white, black, red, green, orange and yellow. They come in two sizes: 56 and 59mm. The challenge for us was not just to design a wheel that could handle riding on rough surfaces but to design a wheel that would thrive on many types of harsh terrain. First we needed to design a hub to support the types of impacts the wheels would receive on rougher terrain as well as protect the bearings from these same stresses. We also needed the hub to bind naturally to our ATF formula without the need of any mechanical bonds. This natural bond allows more synergy between the hub and the urethane giving you optimum rebound and and unbelievably roll over harsh terrain. The two formulas within this one wheel, the hub and the All Terrain Formula are designed to work together to create a higher rebound. When rolling over obstacles in your path the energy absorbed by impacts on the wheel are then transferred into acceleration when passing over these obstacles. This is what we mean by higher rebound. These improved technologies for Rough Riders have opened many doors to terrain that was once overlooked. Rough Riders are not only used on roads less traveled but they are also a great cruiser wheel to cruise to the store and get that six pack. Boom!

I got mine this week. Moved to a bumpy town shortly before quarantine, I love the smooth ride!
If you buy them though, rub candlewax or something under the board where wheelbite happens. Because if they bite a clean board/smooth... they BITE HARD.

Man I got these back in April and I used them for maybe over one month and don’t get me wrong they ride very nice and all but the back wheels crumbled after doing a few curb slaps but thankfully soCal skate shop gave me an exchange for some 56mm spit fires and these are amazing

Bought them for Irish streets, I'd get something else, they fall apart in weeks

I got the 56mm white one's on my cruiser/filmer board and they are awesome and eveytime I go skate my friends all ride my cruiser and they all say they need to get a set of these wheels, I'm over here makin sales Bones lol.

If anyone is thinking about grabbing some of these wheels, please do so because they are worth the investment. Thank me later 😉.. I got me some and let me tell you that they are fun, fast, smooth, awesome, and the best cruiser wheels I have ever purchased. I just wish they had all blue wheels.
What bearings do u use with them ? I’ve been wanting to get them but im hesitant. You just made me wanna order some right now 😂
@@miacubitt4423 honestly, I currently have 4 boards. Each of them with all Bones rough riders wheels and different bearings. The bearings I have are #1(Bones Swiss Ceramics) #2(Bones Reds) #3(Bronson ceramics) #4(Bronson Raw's) each of them work great with the wheels. But I do find my self using the Bronson Raws bearings more often. Only because they are pretty fast right off the batt. But the other bearings go just as fast after you brake them in. Are they good for some slide?
@@DavidSiciliano2100 as far as sliding, they're not really meant for that. The formula is a little different in these wheels. They are more like cruzers. The wheels are softer and have a really good grip on the ground when riding. They don't do well on wet surfaces, honestly I don't think any wheel does but these are more like a rubber wheel type wheel. I recommend formula 4s 99's for sliding or BONES 100's if you want to do some sliding especially going down hill. Also keep in mind that soft wheels (cruzers) can make the ride more comfortable and less pushing when riding on any surface and hard wheels are better for skateparks and sliding when riding. Been skating these for 10 days now. I'll be shocked if I get another 10 days, they're falling apart and separating from the inner core making them the most expensive wheels in the shop and shortest lasting wheels ever.
I figured with my style of skating, slowly along the foot path at 40 years of age, they'd last til.my next birthday.
Same here, but they lasted 3 days. Don't buy these wheels, they're you're burning money doing so.

So these or the mini DV’s? I’m not skating dirt but I kind of live in the ghetto and they don’t spend as much to make the streets all smooth.... I’m a lifetime liquor store skater, but trying to grind and do some simple flip tricks.....

Curious have you tried the ricta clouds? Wondering if I should get these or Ricta the clouds. First time skating in 10 years so I'm super Rusty and every time I hit rocks I go flying
@@RavenMoon1989z If you're mainly street skating larger, softer wheels will deflect pebbles and small rocks, so you dont fall. I skate 60mm and up, but depending on how fast you're wanting go, a 56 or 58 mm wheel with a durometer of 85a, 80a, or 78a
will roll over rocks or throw them out from underneath the wheel. I'd highly recommend a set of Powell Peralta Bombers because they don't have cores and will last many years !
Skate 1 and TGM skateboards has them.
Rumors say the ATF Rough Rider gets chip easily. But on the video It clearly shows the wheels can take some impact.

They chip extremely easily. Mine lasted barely 3 sessions of skating, and both back wheels have chipped really badly.
Could someone tell me if the core at the center is big enough that the wheel itself feels rigid and not like your sinking when you stand on it?
I ride oj 55’s and I love the tough core, and their 60mm is just a bit to squishy for my liking
The answer to your question is yes. The hard core is very rigid so it creates a harder feel to the wheel when riding it. If you dont like how wide they are you can always try the Filmer wheels. Super smooth but dont feel squishy like most softer wheels.

Beginner here, do you need any risers for these?
.25" Risers would be helpful. Especially if you have loose trucks. Some people go to .5" Risers too
Personally I would say yes, you need risers for just about any set up. Also sense these wheels are fairly big, you going to want risers so you don't get wheel bite.
I have the 56mm rough riders and I don't use risers and it's fine , you just have to run your trucks a little tighter.
maybe not with the 56's but ya need a slight riser for 59's and above id suggest or ya gonna get bite...love em they smooth as hell ...hope my words helped a lil. -peace
If you powerslide will they flat spot?
Derek Palacios lol you can't powerslide on these at all they are 80a I have the 56mm rough riders and believe me no matter how hard you try they won't powerslide they just grip like crazy. Maybe if your bombing a hill at 50mph you could powrrslide powerslide but it would be sketchy.

pls make clear stf's, offset/sideset wheels, and a wheel with a core that takes impact better than regular poured urethane. 💚

I'm looking for a set I CAN do power slides to slow down at higher speed, but can also ride very fast from a to b without worrying about cracks and little stones, should I get the Powell G-Slides 85A 59x40mm or the Bones ATF Rough Riders 80A 59x44mm ?

They'll go fast. They don't perform as well as STFs or SPFs when it comes to trying tricks though.

These wheels are trash. Bought a set of the 56mm, they lasted a total of 3 sessions before both back wheels chipped. The right wheel chipped and lost a large piece of the material, and the left wheel has a huge crack in it. I can still ride them, but for how long? And it's only a matter of time before they lose more of the material while I'm riding and I eat dirt. Or a large rock gets caught in one of the holes.
That said, these wheels were amazing to cruise on for sketchy sidewalks and roads. That is all they are good for. If you bang into a curb, or maybe ollie onto a small ledge but miss it and bump the wheel, you can say goodbye to your wheels. These wheels ARE NOT BUILT TO DO TRICKS. They can't even handle a reasonable impact on a curb or ledge. I would say you're better off going for some variety of 90a wheels, they're strong enough to take impact and not chip/lose chunks, but also soft enough to ride over cracks and other rough terrain.
I wouldn't have cared too much, but they were expensive, and I did not get my moneys worth. I regret buying these wheels.

Legal Man I have these wheels and they are impossible to powerslide on they grip like crazy even on slick concrete.
The Powell G-slides are the only soft wheel I’ve ever seen that slide.

Bruh these things chip within MINUTES. was driving mine on pavement in my city and two wheels chipped. 2 Hours of riding. No tricks.
