For those interested in audio, a sennheiser e835 dynamic mic is probably best dynamic mic for not requiring a high end preamp to drive it. You can plug it into any audio interface really- like a focusrite solo. For not much more, and if you have the desk space, you can get a Yamaha mg10xu mixing board as an interface. It has a compressor, and that helps to level out your audio levels. Get some cheap in ear monitors, a desk stand with an iron base, (or a desk arm, or a iron base stand with an arm…if you want to keep your keyboard space clear), and a cheap foam pop shield for your mic, and you’re sounding very professional.
Thanks for showing your space. It confirmed my suspicion that your key lights had natural light support. Your skin color and eyes pop, as really only the sun can do perfectly! Well done
Also, I think your setup looks fantastic. Looks natural, not like a cheap UA-cam studio. You’re very well lit, your hair doesn’t even need a hairlight imho!
Now that you've had more time with the Rodecaster, I'd love to see an update video on how you like it. I'm thinking of adding the Rodecaster Pro II into my workflow.
Hey Cat, Nice and detailed video.. you gave me some inspirations :).. a quick question, how was you able to switch between multiple camera views (including iphone camera) during this video please?
Hi Cat, missed your live session but have now watched the replay: great journey and thanks for taking us with you. Learned a lot. Making my own changes and change again :) !!
So both of your Sony cameras are using the different Elgato cam links. But how are they inputting into your computer? Are you using like a USB hub or an atem mini or something?
Wow what a journey you've done, gear wise! Found your channel yesterday and it's really a hidden gem. So many good insights and so little information noise compared to other channels talking about equipment. Subbed 👍
48:20 for prime lenses the Sigma 16mm for Sony E Mount is a popular UA-camr lens for a wide shot. The 30mm Sigma is not nearly as good. But if you have the budget available the Sony SEL1655G G-Master Lens is the absolute best all around lens for APS-C Sony E Mount for video! 16-55mm constant aperture throughout that range, fast and quiet auto focus. I was quite impressed when I first tested it side by side with a kit lens. I now own 2x of these lenses!
Cat, great videos, great energy. As an observation, I know you’re standing, however, if you hadn’t mentioned this during your videos, the viewer is unlikely to know. The high shoulder look is what people are used to, when presenters are seated. Could you move your camera or stand back further. The advantages - you can use your hands more to express yourself and animate, serving to provide greater energy and connection.
Hi Cat, I have a question. How do you get your name like this in and out (0:40 - 0:45 sec) fade in and out left in the corner? Greetz from the Netherlands Ps: I like your videos
I just don't like the look of ring lights reflected in people's eyes. Seems like a softbox is better. That stream deck is a game changer!! Learned that from you! Love your gear guide. And people with glasses should know lights need to be higher and lower and on the side so they don't reflect in the glasses. I'm sure you have said that in other places. You also can't have bright lights on your monitor. I'm curious why you used a sub domain for your gear list.
Watching the replay: ah ah, I presently have your 2019 setup 😅 same lights, blue yeti, webcam (though I don't like it) and an Imac. My background is a mess right now so I have tu use a green screen 🙈 but I'm fixing that too. I am quite impatient to have it all done!
16:29 interesting design flaw on the ZV-E10! Its always a trade off. On the A6400 the screen flips up, so away from the cables. But then people complain its right behind the hot shoe where you might mount a mic or light.
Hi Cat, I wish I had caught the live presentation. I have pretty much built out my office,(though always willing to upgrade) but it has gone through several evolutions as I was also doing webinars in 2019. I am a Stream Deck fiend! I have a 15 key and XL and use them both often and simultaneously. You have just about convinced me to go ahead and get the teleprompter I have been looking at. I appreciate that you have included your level of priority for those who are building up their office now. I have an unrelated question about the on screen comments. Do you have a video with that process? Thanks for all you are doing to keep folks informed
Hi, Cat. Sorry I didn’t get to watch you live. (Stupid time zones.) Just wondering if the Shure mic worked as well in terms of sound rejection using a USB connection as it does using XLR.
Great Tour great content. Just wonder how you got the monitor on your teleprompter not to show mirrored content. With a external box or config on the monitor?
Geez can I marry you? Gorgeous and I am learning so much from your videos as I embark on a journey to start making UA-cam content myself. Love your videos on how to display text on the screen.
I enjoyed watching the video of your set-up there…just letting you know that the video & audio freezes at about 26.50 (just after you say hi-jacked when discussing the lighting) so couldn’t get to see the last third of video 😉
Do you have issues with your camera shutting down? I have a canon and screen goes black after 30 minutes - I cannot find a work around, and when I’m presenting/demonstrating in a pitch (usually for an hour-1.5hrs) with a million other things to worry about it’s a real pain.
Hey Cat, What tripod are you using for your teleprompter? With the camera and monitor Ive found small tripods are not stable enough but I am yet to find a suitable tripod.
Hi Cat. This was great thanks! I’d been looking for a monitor they flips for my teleprompter, but couldn’t really find anything. Do you mean it flips left to right, so that you’re oriented correctly in your zoom meetings? If so, that’s a great tip, and I’ll check it out. As for your audio, , the rodecaster is a great choice for capturing external guests audio and making that kind of routing easy, I believe. I’ve been meaning to check it out. The cloud lifter would help, but another thing you could look at is a dynamic mic that needs less gain. A Sennheiser e835 or e935 would be fine with the procaster, give very good sound, and are pretty sleek looking. You could save the money on the cloudlifter, and probably make some money if you sold the Shure. Shure makes great mics for sure, but the gear you need to drive them can get out of hand. I have a mix pre 3 for my SM7b, and I love having a limiter so I don’t need to worry about my levels. Another thing you could consider, instead of the cloudlifter, is a channel strip like the dbx286s. Takes up space, but is similarly priced to the cloudlifter and has a whole lot of processing built in. Apologies for the rant, and thanks again for sharing your setup. Love it! Andrew- Sydney
The Sony ZV-1 does not have an option to change lenses. The ZV-E10 does allow switching, so if that's the one you are using, check the video stabilization settings and try turning it off. My camera was really zoomed in, and it was because of the video stabilization being on.
I think with multi camera set up and since you already have the Rodecaster and Streamdeck, you might enjoy the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro video switchers
And I think you're right in not turning that room into an Airbnb option. It's bad enough seeing your furniture being used in their porn,. But when you realise they were using your equipment to film it...
Hi Cat. An extremely helpful presentation! I’m learning a lot. Lovely explained! Thank you very much!! 🙏
Cool to see such enthusiasm 👍🙌
You do a great show. Great camera presence:) good show!
Thank you very much!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Really liked the timular tracker & stream deck+

And also very easy to mix music into your meetings with the Yamaha.
OMG totally unexpected how many gadgets you have now to record your videos. Thank you for sharing this info.

Love how you are taking us on your journey!
Cat, new subscriber, thank you for sharing such great information. You have a very calm and relaxed presentation style.👍
Now that you've had more time with the Rodecaster, I'd love to see an update video on how you like it. I'm thinking of adding the Rodecaster Pro II into my workflow.
I missed a chance to watch you live. awesome video as usual!!! /Chang
Thank you so much. Are you recording directly into your computer, or onto the SD card?
Any idea how big your room is? Would be nice to know how much space you’ve got to work with.
Hey Cat, Nice and detailed video.. you gave me some inspirations :).. a quick question, how was you able to switch between multiple camera views (including iphone camera) during this video please?
Thanks for sharing your setup. I'm also waiting for the next-gen Mac Mini...hopefully, the will be announced in October.
Hi Cat, missed your live session but have now watched the replay: great journey and thanks for taking us with you. Learned a lot. Making my own changes and change again :) !!
You don't need a CloudLifter, just increase the gain on the Rode Podcaster.
So both of your Sony cameras are using the different Elgato cam links. But how are they inputting into your computer? Are you using like a USB hub or an atem mini or something?
Hi Cat. Just checking if you have a preferred camera aperture setting considering you have a natural room background.
Wow what a journey you've done, gear wise! Found your channel yesterday and it's really a hidden gem. So many good insights and so little information noise compared to other channels talking about equipment. Subbed 👍
Watching the replay!
you can buy from amazon angled micro/mini hdmi and power cable ... should improve the cable over preview screen issue on the sony

I don't stream or create content, but this is awesome
Frameworks Gator is a nice heavy base desk stand with short boom

Why the Reflective Teleprompter, instead of just setting the monitor (currently in your teleprompter) up vertically above your other monitors?
Because then you’re not looking into the lens when you’re looking at the screen…

Hi Cat. Great videos! I seem to recall, but not sure if you are using a desktop tripod for the teleprompter? If so, do you recommend it? Thank you!
I'm using a full-size tripod from the floor. There is enough space behind the desk for it.
Thank you! I ended up buying a Neewer desktop tripod because I use a standing desk and want everything to move up and down. I love your videos.

21:12 I also use a Rodecaster Pro and AM using a CloudLifter with a Shure SM7b for at the computer. Great combo.
Geez can I marry you? Gorgeous and I am learning so much from your videos as I embark on a journey to start making UA-cam content myself. Love your videos on how to display text on the screen.

Hi Cat, when you are on a group Zoom I notice you are one of the few looking right at camera. Do you use teleprompter for Zooming?
hi Cat, thank you for all you do ! great job! did you notice that from min 27 sound got cut and image got frozen showing your set up?
Hi Cat. This was great thanks! I’d been looking for a monitor they flips for my teleprompter, but couldn’t really find anything. Then again, that mic sounds great on your voice so a cloudlifter would be a great choice too
Are you using an add on lens for the zv1? I find a arms distance, I am too zoomed in. So I bought an add on lens but haven’t used it yer
The Sony ZV-1 does not have an option to change lenses. The ZV-E10 does allow switching, so if that's the one you are using, check the video stabilization settings and try turning it off. My camera was really zoomed in, and it was because of the video stabilization being on.
Excellent
no dummy battery for the cameras???
Both Sony cameras are powered by USB cable, so no dummy battery required.
Home studio
You shouldn’t need a cloud lifter with that model Rodecaster.
You can use L shaped USB cables
I think with multi camera set up and since you already have the Rodecaster and Streamdeck, you might enjoy the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro video switchers
I'm not sure if Cat wants multiple camera angles... but I love my Atem Mini Extreme!! And you can certainly tell in my videos with 4+ camera angles. 😂
HD60S+ vertically stretched my camcorder’s HDMI from 16:9 to 4:3. Returned it.
Hair light got depth -
And I think you're right in not turning that room into an Airbnb option. It's bad enough seeing your furniture being used in their porn,. But when you realise they were using your equipment to film it...
Thank you, doing the maths indicates the setup would have costed tens of thousands of dollars, mmm...
