Maybe I should make a video just about them because I had the same thought. There's a cardboard inner tub in the rolls, and then the ends have these little parts that go inside the cardboard and then expand to lock it in place. Pretty cool really.
Hey Tom... this was awesome to see; thanks for sharing. You mentioned you've got a 12x12 space. I've got a 10x17 home office with 9' tall ceilings and I'm trying to acoustically treat it. I noticed you just have 2 panels (1 on ceiling, 1 on door in front of you). I've put up 4 panels and it sounds like I need to do more because my MKH416 sounds like crap in here (still so much reverb). I ordered a NT1 in hopes that it's a better mic for this space (primarily for VO). Wondering if you had any tips or if there's more you've done to your space that I didn't catch in your video. Thanks!
Thanks Chris! Something I did after making this video was add one of the "Producer's Choice" sound blankets behind my colored backdrops (basically just a movers blanket). It covers a window back there and helps block a bit of that outside noise from coming through. Sound blankets can be super helpful and can be draped over things like C stands if you don't want to attach them permanently. I've seen people line ceilings with them and it helps a lot. Definitely less expensive than acoustic panels. Otherwise in my space, the carpet and furniture help reduce quite a bit of reverb. IF you're still having issues in your space, maybe a bass trap or two in the corners can help? My desk is also a big source of reflections, but I don't think there's much I can do about that.
@@tombuck Thanks, Tom! I've used blankets in the past but since this is my home office (read: wife wants it to look nice still), I'm a bit more limited with what I can do. I ordered 2 more panels yesterday which will bring the total to 6 in this space and I'm hoping that will mellow out the reverb a bit more. I spent a bunch of time yesterday dialing in my DUO and my 416 (the NT1 actually wasn't better) and got it fairly close to what I was getting from my vocal booth. But now I need to spend time tweaking my effects rack in Audition. Oh, the process--gotta love it. Anyway, thanks for the response and all the helpful videos. Keep it up bud.
Great tour! Excellent layout of all your gear and especially great design of the background of your set! And I really like the variety that you create with your backgrounds by using your wheeled desk to change your camera angle and reposition what is seen in your backgrounds. However, I would recommend that you use a warmer key light on yourself for a more flattering and healthier skin tone. And I would either lower your fill light or raise your key light level, so that you have a bit of shadow to add some cinematic moodiness. Overall you have created the best UA-camr set that I have ever seen. Awesome work! By the way, you are also exceptionally well spoken - clearly and concisely explaining and demonstrating, as well as adding well placed humor. You've got a gift.
I am a simple dude, i see a Weighted Companion Cube, I smash that like. Excellent studio, very inspirational considering I am using a comparable home office / studio as well!
Great tour and setup. I have my office though not a studio setup similar but I use ikea tables and storage. I have thought about switching out the ikea storage for the Husky to store my gear. When I check them out at Home Depot they are just a lot more sturdy and will last forever.
Yep, I really love the tool chests. Even if I were to ever stop needing a studio for some reason, there's plenty of use for them in the garage and for other things.
This is so cool, Tom. I'd be really interested in learning if you set up an LLC for your UA-cam channel and the step by step process. This is something we don't learn in college and that we could all benefit from. Especially if we can learn how to get the gear for the company and not for ourselves, becoming business expenses.
I’m not an expert but my wife and I did form an LLC several years ago. I have a podcast about it: enthusiasmproject.buzzsprout.com/1235126/7447741 But again, totally not an expert! 😬
I need more tool chests. Great tour. I always enjoy seeing how you're doing things. Gives me something to aspire to, albeit with a significantly decreased amount of blue. 😂
Few days ago, I have a plan that I'm going to renovate my studio room and Now, I have changed things up a bit. So I have everything ready to go for a renovation of my new 2023 studio room. 😁👌 And then, Get rid of da messy stuff. 😃 I'll clean things up and I'm ready to go for a studio setup. 😁
Dude, congratulations on passing the 14M view mark! It's absolutely deserved. You clearly put in a lot of work and your positivity is always refreshing. Side note, I just passed the 2M mark myself and it's definitely a weird feeling. Keep it up man!
How do you handle the focus breathing on the Sony FX3? It would be great to see a video of your Sony settings similar to the walkthrough you did for your Canon settings! As someone who is trying to transition from Canon to Sony, I tend to get a little lost.
I'm SUPER excited that the new 3.0 firmware has breathing compensation, so that's how I'll be handling it from now on! But up until now, I've really just been trying not to move backwards/forwards too much and it hasn't been a huge issue on the 24mm, but definitely annoying.
Super fun. thanks! Hope you get around to the XL-1 video. Loved mine - had both lenses! The form factor was just bad-ass. Definitely the coolest looking camera. And murder glove! haha
@@tombuck exactly! I still feel sort of awkward and amateur holding basically an SLR to make films. I want it to look like a REAL camera. Or you rig it out with a cage and lens support, etc. and it just feels ridiculous.
For the MacBook keyboard issue, grab some decal/stickers for it to “protect” them. I use a translucent one, it makes the touch feel a little different and the sticking them was harder than expected if you want them perfect, but it still looks great. 😁
Consider consolidating all of your microphones from the first cabinet into that empty drawer. And/or putting all audio in the same cabinet. Maybe that one cabinet with all the nice mics and pedals. Basically, consider consolidate all audio, camera, and grip gear are in their own respective areas. Great studio set up and excellent usage of space.
Awesome video (as always)... you want to do something different with the three big cameras to your right...what about doing something similar like you done with your mics...attach them to the wall via those big strong foam protected hooks that you'd normally use to hang your bicycle in the garage for example. Or even better the handles for your guitar wall mounts...could you use those or maybe they make something similar that could be adapted for the cameras? Also, you've probably done a video (I'm guessing) so if you have video(s) on 3d printer recommendations...nothing huge but decent enough to create the adapter containers you have.
I’ve thought about this! Truthfully, I’m a bit worried about them being stable. They’re definitely heavier than any of my guitars and hanging those gave me a lot of anxiety! 😬
Awesome studio tour - I love how you've really owned the space... The perfect blend of form and function! What are the actual dimensions of the room? Are you ever tempted to find a bigger space/make a workspace out in the yard? A Tom Buck series on building an outside office - now THAT would be interesting!
We’ve joked about building a little casita in the yard, but aside from being way out of our budget, it’d be pretty tough to regulate the temperature when it gets super hot for half the year. My little 12x12 room is fine 😁 Although I have though about tearing out the closet as it’d add an extra few feet of space…
How creepy. I JUST watched the last tour video last night! I'm missing the drums! As a former musician, I loved that you had those in your office. I have a piano in mine. And you've just inspired me to hang my bass on the wall. I've thought about it several times but wasn't sure the best solution. I will pick up one of those mounts. I've also wanted to bring a tool chest into the office but the thought of bringing it up the stairs is scary. LOL. For now, I have several IKEA Kallax systems in the office, one acting as a cadenza next to the desk. The drawer systems for them start to add up, though, so I probably have more money into the big one than I could spend on a Husky or US General rolling box. I also made my own dividers for my small Godox strobes stored/transported in a large Apache box. I'll check out your second channel now. Thanks for the tour!
Oooh strange timing! I definitely miss having the drums in here, but I LOVE the extra space. They're still around, just in a different room. And yes, I was terrified to hang things on the wall, but as long as you follow the directions and make sure to mount into studs, it should be fine. I do check the screws regularly just to make sure nothing is coming loose. But it's really awesome being able to actually see and appreciate the instruments.
Hope this answered some questions! I do have a lighting-specific video here: ua-cam.com/video/9PnB7ytODLM/v-deo.html It's a bit older now, but the setup is still very similar.
Hey Tom! If you review the new Rodecaster Duo please find out if you can make one of the "Smart Pads" a record button. I know this is a super niche question, but I noticed they got rid of the record button and it'll actually affect my purchasing decision. Much love if you can answer that at some point.
This is a great question! I'm definitely planning to buy one whenever it's released so that I can do some side-by-side comparisons. It'd be a huge bummer if the only way to start/stop recording is through a touch screen...
This is a minimalist's nightmare 😅. But no I gotta say it looks awesome on camera. Also pro tip: you can sell unused gear and get money for upgrades or just a vacation or whatever. And thanks for the tip about the arms I've been looking for something strong.
Thanks! Surprisingly I don’t have much unused gear. Everything does have a purpose/use in one way or another. Unused gear makes me sad, so I try and find good homes for stuff if it’s ever no longer needed 👍
How do you control the dust in the room? I’d imagine they will accumulate on everything I’m there, but yet the room looks so clean, please share your tip. Thanks! 🙏🏻

What brand XLR cables do you recommend/use for your mics ? I recently purchased a Rode DUO and SHURE mic after watching your channel. Very informative videos!

@tombuck amazing workspace. I had a question though, can you get a similar video output with an iPhone or any other smartphone or you need a dslr to pull off this kinda video ?
Tom you're the absolute best and if anyone can answer this it's you...when I play music from my RodeCaster to streamyard and anyone other than me talks, it drops the audio from the music. How can I stop this??? I've went to both streamyard and rodecaster and nobody has a solution.
It sounds like Streamyard might have some noise/echo cancellation turned on? I had a similar problem with Ecamm a while ago and turning that off fixed it. Otherwise, it’s possible that ducking is enabled accidentally on one of the smart pads. Here’s a Short with more info: ua-cam.com/video/C5PLGOQDytQ/v-deo.html
@@tombuck thanks - so in Streamyard should I have my echo turned off and my guests have theirs on? Or should they all be off? Regards ducking I have the RC1 and I don't think I can add effects to my pads?

Hi Tom, I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction. I’ve been searching for info on how to setup a pc with a Mac for streaming using Ecamm and incorporating a Rodecaster Pro exactly. I’m also in California as well in OC. I have tried to find info on how to connect everything but haven’t had luck.
The RCP is plug and play, so once it’s connected to your computer, you can select it as the audio source in your streaming software (Ecamm is Mac only). If you want to bring audio from a PC through the RCP and then into the Mac, you can run the second USB to the PC and then select the RCP as the audio output source for that computer and then you’ll be able to control that audio on the USB2 channel 👍
I have 2 monitors at home, rodecaster pro 2 and ATEM Mini Pro, Sony ZV-E10 - they call me crazy. They just haven't seen what you have going on :) Cool studio 👍
nice setup, nice studio ... as always enjoyed your video!!!... "quick" question: did you use any A.I. Voice Isolation like in Resolve 18 or FCPX or even the new Adobe (beta) A.I. Tool since the Audio Recording sounds a lil bit more like "too close" to a mic for the style of recording (if you know what I mean) ... at times it sounds almost like ADR (for example the proximity effect)... or is it just your "normal" processing. 😅
You're 100% right. There should be a pinned comment that explains it, but I messed up most of the audio and recorded with the camera's built-in mic, so I tried Adobe's new stuff and it really helped. Definitely sounds "too close" but it was unusable before!
@@tombuck Well, it does not sound bad tho' ...just kinda not right (for a trained ear 😅... so it's earritating😆) But yeah based on the "sound profile" (so to say) I really was wondering if it's the "Adobe Magic thingy" ... seems to work great! So far I had a really good experience with Resolve 18.1 / Fairlight. I do all my Podcast Soundmix with that lately... got rid of some nasty construction work sounds for example without too much quality loss with that!
Hey tom, thats a lovely studio setup. what are your thoughts about the SE electronics dynacaster, is it worth to spend on? And what if you could do a comparison video with your best microphones
I haven't used the Dynacaster yet myself, but I know it gets pretty rave reviews and it always sounds great when I hear someone with it. Love that it has a built in booster too! I think it would most closely compare to my Lewitt LCT240 (even though that's a condenser) and the Blue Sona.
I started guitar back in 2001, but have really been diving into the bass for the past year. Honestly, I think I've gotten better at the bass in 1 year than my previous 20+ with guitar (that's not saying a lot though...😉)
Tom, thanks for the informative video! I have a question. Did you get your concert posters professionally framed or did you do it yourself? If you did yourself, where did you purchase the frames? I am trying to source frames with mattes for mine and I can't find them the right size. Thanks!
I did it myself. Most of the frames were from Aaron Brothers and I love them because they're wood and glass. Unfortunately the chain went out of business, so now it's a mix of Michael's and Amazon.

I'm jealous of you !!! lol You got an awesome set up and gear keep it up boddy love the content
Thank you! It's definitely been a work in progress, but I really wish I could show it to my 12 year old self.
Thanks Andy! Skin tone are always a bit of a problem for me as I’m a pretty pasty/pink person in real life 😁
I am a simple dude, i see a Weighted Companion Cube, I smash that like. Excellent studio, very inspirational considering I am using a comparable home office / studio as well!
Very happy to have saved it from the incinerator.
Thanks for another Awesome Video Tom!!!
As a fellow UA-camr, I learned so much from this video! Definitely going to take some of your tips and apply them to my setup 🙏🏽
Hey thanks so much! I'll be sure to put this towards a good e-book 😎
I’m sure you’ll go down in UA-cam and content history as one of the best home studio setups
Wow, that’s an awesome compliment! Thank you 🙏
Interested on that mic arm extension mount thingy
Yes! The AT8459! It's a game changer.
@@tombuck oh Wow, Thank you!
I have a podcast about it: enthusiasmproject.buzzsprout.com/1235126/7447741
But again, totally not an expert! 😬
Tom, I listened to it this morning. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!
I just wanna say I really enjoy watching your videos & your joie de vivre & puns, thank you 😊
Thank you! I’m really happy to hear that.
I love seeing how people organize their gear and this was a great set up. Killer studio Tom!!
I love watching studio tour videos! Glad you enjoyed mine 👍
I need more tool chests.
Great tour. I always enjoy seeing how you're doing things. Gives me something to aspire to, albeit with a significantly decreased amount of blue. 😂
You've got a whole new space that you're working with now! I can't recommend tool chests for gear enough. Love the insane sturdiness and flexibility.
Few days ago, I have a plan that I'm going to renovate my studio room and Now, I have changed things up a bit.
So I have everything ready to go for a renovation of my new 2023 studio room. 😁👌
And then, Get rid of da messy stuff. 😃
I'll clean things up and I'm ready to go for a studio setup. 😁
I love it. I hope it turns out great!
@@tombuck Yeah, I will make my best. 😁
Dude, congratulations on passing the 14M view mark! It's absolutely deserved. You clearly put in a lot of work and your positivity is always refreshing.
Side note, I just passed the 2M mark myself and it's definitely a weird feeling. Keep it up man!
Thank you and congrats on that awesome milestone! 👏
I love your setup it's so colorful.
Thank you! I've always loved super colorful stuff.
Very jealous! Must work harder on my setups!!
It's a fun never-ending project for sure.
And murder glove! haha
Love that camera. It's so much fun to use. I'd LOVE a modern camera with the same form factor.
@@tombuck exactly! I still feel sort of awkward and amateur holding basically an SLR to make films. I want it to look like a REAL camera. Or you rig it out with a cage and lens support, etc. and it just feels ridiculous.
It was a treat to see this in person, even in this updated tour seems like we need to see it all again soon :)
The studio door is always open for your return!
For the MacBook keyboard issue, grab some decal/stickers for it to “protect” them. I use a translucent one, it makes the touch feel a little different and the sticking them was harder than expected if you want them perfect, but it still looks great. 😁
I've thought about this, but was worried that I would go insane trying to get all the stickers on straight 😬
Cool space! Congratulations on 14m views! That's a lot of cool guitars it looks so nice on the wall.
Thank you Samuel! It's definitely a lot more fun to be able to see and appreciate the guitars rather than having them stuffed away on a rack.
My little 12x12 room is fine 😁
Although I have though about tearing out the closet as it’d add an extra few feet of space…
Danke!
Thank you kindly as always!
What kind of camera you use man it's amazing
My main camera is the Sony FX3 👍
@@tombuck god damn my fav camera ever... but it's too expensive to buy🥺
Cool setup! When did you get so many guitars? Time for a guitar video!
It's been a work in progress since 2001, so definitely not all at once! I have a couple of guitar/bass videos on my second channel .👍
nevermind! heck yeaH! can't wait to watch this. Hopefully, you show your light placement!
Hope this answered some questions! I do have a lighting-specific video here: ua-cam.com/video/9PnB7ytODLM/v-deo.html
It's a bit older now, but the setup is still very similar.
@@tombuck that it DID! Great videos man. About to watch the light dedicated video now. Take care and keep killing it buD
Thanks! 🙏🏻
I've always been in the habit of cleaning often, so it's not a huge issue. I wipe things down and use compressed air regularly.
Amazing studio setup Tom! It really looks great. You are really talented and thank you for sharing your personal space with us and giving us unique ideas from what you’ve built. Keep being amazing brother! - Charles
Thank you Charles! Glad you enjoyed it and hopefully there were some helpful tidbits in there.
Which lens are you using on your FX3 for your A cam? I love studio tours 😊
It's the Sony 24mm 1.4 👍
Great walkthrough as usual Tom! I also have the iFootage 60W light and use it as my fill/hair light. I also like those tube lights and wouldn't mind getting at least 3-4 for my room, but hey, the FX-30 first 🙂 Cheers!
FX30 with some sweet new firmware too!
I haven't seen an XL-1 in so long! I think those were everyone's dream camera lol. Still tempted to buy one so I can say I had one :P
Thank you so much for your amazing and honest tips....these are tons of efficient setup tips hard to find on UA-cam!!!! Thanks!!!
What brand XLR cables do you recommend/use for your mics ? I recently purchased a Rode DUO and SHURE mic after watching your channel. Very informative videos!
I really like Rode's new XLR cables. They're relatively affordable, super high quality, and available in a bunch of awesome colors too. I swapped out all of my cabled with those when they came out a few months ago.
Finally, first :) thank you so much for the great work! best from Switzerland
Woo hoo! Thanks Karem! 🏆
Holy lights Batman. That’s a set up. I’ve shot movies with less…. I’m just jealous. Lol. But love your videos. You’ve been super helpful. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you! I just finished a pretty big overhaul, so now it's time for an update!
Nice. Can't wait to see that video. I've been putting together my podcasting studio.
Great overview. And your subtle puns and turn of words are greatly admired. We all need more guffaws. 😂
I'm full of guffaws! Thanks for the kind words 😁
Tom, where can I find the video you mentioned that covers the Nanlite 60C with the cool projections on the guitars?
@tombuck amazing workspace. I had a question though, can you get a similar video output with an iPhone or any other smartphone or you need a dslr to pull off this kinda video ?
Awesome studio, man 🙂 Just missing the Logitech MX 3 S 😇
Great studio setup
Can't wait to see you review the new Rodecaster Duo and Streamer X in comparison with the Rodecaster pro 2.
Very excited to check all that stuff out!
Thanks for showing us your murder glove and helping me to not feel bad about having six guitars and a drum kit in my office.
Never feel bad for GAS or murder gloves!
Great Studio well done you gave ma an Idea with those boxes thank you 🙂
Awesome! Glad there was something helpful in there for you 👍
Tom you're the absolute best and if anyone can answer this it's you...when I play music from my RodeCaster to streamyard and anyone other than me talks, it drops the audio from the music.
Regards ducking I have the RC1 and I don't think I can add effects to my pads?
also - it seems to be cutting off my vocals when there's crosstalk as well. How do I prioritize my vocals and music over all guests? Ugh so frustrating and thank you!
Tom, you studio is Soooooo Nice ! Congratulation (the guitar holders are fantastic) ! And still you have the best light, Lut and final crispy image, it really look good on our screens ! By the way, why not going for a Mac Studio ? They really rock, I'm so glad I did have purchase this one !
Thank you Pierre! I really appreciate the kind words!
For computers, the M1 Mini has been so solid for the past few years that I really just don't need anything else. I LOVE my MacBook and the portability it offers.
I won't lie though...a blue iMac seems pretty sweet 👀
@@tombuck Yep, you are right Tom if it work... Do not fix it ! Love to you and you beautiful family from France ! You have really help me start my studio for teaching by zoom. Thank you for all the work.

Your play space is awesome, it caught our EYE,
But let's talk sound, it's time to get SERIOUS,
With the release of the Podmic USB, we're CURIOUS,
A mega review of the best USB mic AROUND?
To make sure our audio quality is SOUND!
Daaaaanngg finger snaps all around 🫰🫰🫰🫰
Awesome setup. Of course now I realize that my setup is kind of bland. How did you come up with that vision of your setup?
I’m sure yours isn’t bland! Mine definitely wasn’t a clear vision, it just sort of developed and evolved over time. It definitely looks a bit different in older videos on the channel 😁
Thanks for the reminder to reorganize my drawers and shelves! ;)
Gotta love drawerganization!
Very nice Video you made. Nice way of maintaining. But I cant see any wireless microphones ...
I have a few of the little Rode/Deity wireless systems, but I don’t really trust them that much so I don’t use them often. I have a Zoom F2 recorder that I like instead, and I’m looking for a good “pro” wireless system from Sennheiser.
Tom,
I love your videos...so informative and funny. I have a weird question...do you know what paint color you have on your back wall. It's such a pretty blue and I'd like to get it for my home.
It’s Behr Living Stream with a matte finish. I got it at Home Depot back in 2015, so I’m not sure if they still make it, but I bet you could ask them and they could match it or find what’s closest.
@@tombuck awesome! thank you so much for the reply! You are my model for when I start my own channel. Smart, funny, honest, and it's clear you enjoy what you do! Keep up the incredible work! People really appreciate and learn from your channel.
Nice studio tour!
Thanks!
@@tombuck thx so much Tom. Keep up the great content!
🔥✨🤩🙌🏻GO TOM GO🙌🏻🤩✨🔥
Thanks Mr. Spike!
Where do you get all of your awesome colourful cables from?
Most of them are from a brand called "Dremake" on Amazon. They're not the best quality, but they're inexpensive and I love the color options 😁
@@tombuck Well, it does not sound bad tho' ...just kinda not right (for a trained ear 😅... so it's earritating😆)
But yeah based on the "sound profile" (so to say) I really was wondering if it's the "Adobe Magic thingy" ... seems to work great!
The mac book keyboard drives me crazy too. I thought it was just me 😂
Happy to know I’m not alone 🫠
I see, what type of base on the arm and which arm or any arm will work?
Awesome setup! I do have a question, where can I find that wallpaper you have?
I bought it as part of a wallpaper pack from Canoopsy. 👍
@@tombuck Thank you! I saw it somewhere but just forgot the name
Beautiful P bass and telecaster! How long have you been playing?
I started guitar back in 2001, but have really been diving into the bass for the past year. Honestly, I think I've gotten better at the bass in 1 year than my previous 20+ with guitar (that's not saying a lot though...😉)
@@tombuck nice!!! Awesome collection btw
Can you link the arm you used for the rode caster mounting please. Thank you.
Congratulations - love your videos
Thank you! Happy to hear that!
Hi Tom!
A lot of work put into developing the studio - well done! I have a question. In 18:46 min of the video you show microphones, where can I buy a filter to rode podmice like you have?
It's from ReporterStore.com - they have PodMic windscreens now!
I love a good studio setup! As always your space looks great!
