Who knew that boot makers loved knives so much! We had an epic time at Nicks checking out what everyone was carrying. There were some tried and true favorites and a few surprises mixed up in this epic cobbler pocket check.
One of the coolest takeaways from this video is that Nicks offers paternity leave to their employees. Says a lot about companies nowadays that do that, not enough do.
Just a tip of the iceberg with the good people and policies they have!
Still waiting for the pair of boots I ordered in October
@@zacinthewild ua-cam.com/video/mZMGlofn8vY/v-deo.html
@Jay M yep. totally crazy consider the fact that paternity leave is normal in most western countries. land of the free I guess...
@@njcranes and if mom is the breadwinner? That's an old fashioned way to look at it.
It was great having you guys in the shop! Thanks for highlighting our amazing craftsmen! 👊
Not only are these videos interesting, It’s very good free advertisement for the company. I had never heard about Nick’s boots but I’m sold now . Also very cool to see the employees actually wearing their products.
Glad you dug it!
All the spokane pnw boot brands are pretty great and worth looking into Whites, Nicks, Franks and JK if you’re interested
Anyone's Grandpa would be happy as long is the knife went to someone who cares. Finding my Grandpa's 110 after he passed made be break out in tears. I'll never give it up.
Never👊
wouldn't be surprised if your grandpa has had that knife for a long time. look after that knife and it'll never let your down!
That's called a roofing hatchet. The blade part is still used but years ago it was used to split cedar shakes (shingles). Can also use the blade if you don't have some kinda saw with you to cut out vent holes for roof turbines. Not a pretty hole but works in a pinch and that waffle head will really skin a finger up if you hit it on the hard stroke
Watching oldheads score drywall with a roofing hammer is *soooo* satisfying
I knew someone would give the correct answer for what the roofing hammer really was made for.
@@garetkonigsfeld2 yep. I've used 1 once or twice myself. Too old and fat for roofing nowadays
This was brilliant, as someone from England it was nice to have an insight into American industry and workmanship whilst talking to everyday hardworking people.
This was awesome! I really love these videos you’ve been doing that showcase both US manufacturers and the craftsman who work there. The “pocket check” is an excellent way to open up the dialogue with the folks your talking to and most of the time I forget I’m even watching a pocket check video because these are so much more than just that. Great job guys and hopefully there’s more to come! Now I’ve just gotta decide which boot I want!
Thank you so much! I love knives and connecting with people so it’s great to combine the two sometimes😁
Pocket Check is absolutely one of the coolest knife related series on UA-cam for a LONG, long time! Keep it up, please! Love seeing the diversity, from the old biker with the $20 regular to the young hunter with a $400 masterpiece.
Zac! Do a wrist watch check also!! Wearing watches is getting rarer these days , nice to see what professionals are actually wearing everyday
Totally agree, especially as I'm a watchmaker!
I need to learn more about the watch world. Love the addition!
@@zacinthewild totally! People would love to talk about their watches and they wear that just like the knives, it'd be so cool to see what an average joe is enjoying wearing unlike everyone having to wear a rolex or a swiss watch as horologists would have us believe.
@sinkonline I couldn't agree more my friend. As a watchmaker I don't recommend those types of watches and when people ask me what to buy, I always ask what they need it for. I'm just as happy recommending a Casio G-Shock, as something more expensive. In fact for a long time a G-Shock was my main watch. Just like with knives, watches have to be fit for purpose, not just shiny and expensive.
Looks like a great group of folks building a great product right here in the USA. Love the buck 301 lent mine to my dad 35 years ago and he loved it, he passed 15 years later and I have carried it since
Great people for sure!
Awesome video. I love seeing kids my age being taught by the old timers for a neat trade!
I bought a pair of Nick's Packers 22-23 years ago and still have them.... a bit tight now but built like a brick "you know what." Fun video!
Only in mine 6 months but hands down the best I’ve had!
It is great to see people at work. Very interesting from different angles of view. Please continue to do such videos, covering different areas of life and work and knives.
People who loves Boots & Knives are my good Vibes.....🤙
Enjoying these types of videos. Cool to see how it’s done plus tools of the trade.
Surprised that so many people there have quality knives. Not expensive ones but no junk either
Same!
Awesome. I love stuff like this. Those are the kind of guys who built the civilisation that most people take for granted, and also keep it running every day.
I could watch this kind of video all day. Seeing what tradesmen gravitate towards. Not hobbyists or collectors, but guys and gals who buy a tool and put it to work! Plus I get to learn a bit about how things are made. Keep it up guys!
I also love seeing what pros actually carry🤘
Great group of people working at Nicks. Love these videos Zak! 👍 😃
Love these pocketchecks with people who put tools to good use. ❤ We don't have enough crafts man and woman in this world.
We can always use more makers and doers!
His buck 110 was made when BUCK used good steel 440c. I wish I had one. Nice knife
So cool! That was fun.
I'm with you on loving trade-specific tools. It's neat to see the little things that make a particular task go smoother. Right tool for the job.
Holy crap! Are nicks making a utility knife! I'll take 4!
They got something cooking🤫
Love those boots !! Quality made !!
Great video ! Look forward to your videos every week ! Thanks Zac
Means a ton!👊
Zac is such a fucken wholesome and well travelled human being - love these off the cuff interviews showcasing genuinely awesome human interactions. Much love to ya mate!
Always love the pocket checks, and love that you're going to craftsmen who are really using their tools and knives! Please come to Canada!!!!!
Would love to get up to Canada again!
@@zacinthewild Thanks Zac, hope you'll have the opportunitie again soon! All my best wishes to you and yours.
Love seeing trade specific tools too! Always fun watching pocket check videos!
Every one of those who had a lock-knife would have been classed as a criminal in the United Kingdom and arrested by our heroic police who claim "Only Cowards Carry" - while ironically, they are the most heavily armed carriers in the country...and biggest cowards. 🤔
Zac this was probably one of the coolest videos you've done. I too love specific trade tools especially hammers. I carry that same raw brass space pen everyday and the reason I love it is, it's small goes right in your pocket then when you open it up and put the cap on top its full size.
Did the astronauts use them?
@@christopherskipp1525 Actually yes, fisher designed their pen for the astronauts. You should look up the history of the pen, if you buy one there's alittle card inside talking about it.
@@jeremyl.7563 OK, thank you.
Love your channel dude. I got my first knife when I was 12 and I still have that knife to this day. I love getting people into EDC and just started fixing and sharpening knives. Such cool content
Nick’s rocks!! Zac, you rock. I type this as I’m wearing one of my many Nick’s. Nothing, and I mean nothing, feels better on your feet or makes you stand taller and firmer in your beliefs!
Zac, you should “drive down the road” to Fireball Tools and do an incredible crossover and collaboration. Anybody that resurfaces an anvil, just ‘cause, should definitely interest you!!
Looks like everyone there enjoys working there. That makes a huge difference in the work environment and in the quality of the product.
Man, I have the same Winchester knife Alex has. Amazing to see it on the wild. It was one of my first knives. I currently use it around the house for utility purposes. I love it and it has a lot of meaning for me.
So cool!
I love this! Real people, real boots, real knives!
The hits keep coming guys thanks
One of the coolest videos ever man! I’m in need of a new pair of boots as well and will definitely be checking these out now.
There’s nothing better than fine crafted foot wear. I spent too much time trudging around in army boots (and my body is paying for it now) so I don’t mind spending a little extra for quality. Definitely be checking out a pair of Nicks in the near future.
"carbide" utility blades do make a huge difference. As a contractor they are the only blades I'll buy now.
Dude carries a Benchmade Contigo! Nice! Its one of my favorite EDC blades in my collection as well!
I absolutely love your videos! Best knife channel on the internet! Keep them coming Zac and I will keep watching!!! I stayed home from work today a binged watched you all day!! Hahahah!
I clip my flashlight to my front right belt loop for my everyday carry. Saves pocket space, easily accessible and never turns on by it self!
Great to show the brand and the folks behind them.
Wow, these videos are a breath of fresh air. I've only seen 2 so far, but they are fast moving and interesting as well as entertaining. Very well done. You have a gift. (at least in my humble opinion.)
This is such a great video Zac- thanks!
Thank you!
Really enjoyed this video. That’s one tall friend you made. Thanks for sharing this man.
Awesome I really enjoyed it. I just recently subscribed to your show and your knowledge and personality drew me in
Definitely gonna be saving up for a pair after watching this video. Some great looking boots.
Great video Zac thanks! That 110 looked like a spyderco Mcbee in Nathan’s hands
Great boots, great knives, great hammer & great people.! Cheers Zac.
Hey oh!🤘
They have belts and other items also. Awesome.
Just wanna throw it out there Madeline is drop dead gorgeous ❤❤❤
Person that actually carry a cold steel knife. Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Anytime, Anywhere
@@gstearsman you better believe it tough as anything
@@Kyle-bb9zp depending on the week in my pockets is 1 to 3 Cold Steels. My big blade for defense is always going to be a Cold Steel at least 5.5” to 7”.
@@gstearsman what are the big models I like the XL voyager a good do all kinda knife I used to have the XL voyager serated loved it.
@@Kyle-bb9zp Espada XL G10, Rajah 2, Voyager XL the Vaquero full serrated, Voyager XL Tanto full Serrated, Voyager XL clip point combo edge, Hold Out 6” full serrated, Luzon Large, & I know it’s not a 5.5“ to 7” blade but I do cycle through as a big blade my 4max scout.
Zac, I use an Alpaka Admin pouch for my EDC sporran organising. Thanks for the Alpaka recommendation in previous videos and they have excellent customer service too.
So glad to hear!
ok i'm glad the damascus knife at 13:30 got named i saw that in other videos and have been curious it's so unique looking.
Zac you do great interviews I always look forward to these
Thank you so much!🙏
Great video Zac really enjoy the pocket checks
this is such an awesome idea! id like to see more of these types of videos where you see what the tools of the trade are for random professions and what edged tools they use...its a great way to as a maker to find cool tools that might be useful to you as well....plus since youre not tied to any company thats selling knives, it wont be a big deal if theyre using a fastback or something lol
Awesome video Zac and Jamie. My two favorite things knives and American made boots. After I saw your video Zac with your alpaca organizer I bought one on Etsy from a Ukrainian lady that makes awesome pocket organizers in a bunch of different sizes, on the video you mentioned wanting one that can hold a note pad . She shows one that can fit a fields note. I’ve had mine a few months now and love it. They have a ton of different options. Thank for awesome videos
I’m so dumb, the Etsy company is Leattweed. Sorry about that
Thanks for the tip!
This is a great video concept. Nick's boots are the best
A bucket list boot for me .
I've had that exact Winchester knife for years now and I can't believe I saw it here lol
Hay Zac, thanks for checking out Nicks boots .I work at a Brewery in Tampa, Fl, and have been eyeing Nicks Boots for a while now. You definitely have sparked my interest to finally get a pair. If you're ever in Tampa , stop by for a cold one and check out Cigar City Brewing. From Jay The Welder. Brew On America 🇺🇸!!!
Wow, what a great company! I know where I am getting my next pair of boots.
Thanks, David!
I have 2 pairs of Nicks on order. Been waiting 6 months. Im so looking forward to getting them.
I couldn't live without my Buck 55. It's small, but it's just my fave EDC 😁
Another enjoyable video. Well done.
Glad you got up here to Spokane! Hope you got a chance to check the area out some! Love your videos guys!
Nice video! The guy with the Crooked River Mini is a legend!
Great video. Most people here carry budget or medium priced knives. Some are obviously well loved. I like that I have too many knives and should use the ones I have more.
Nice Buck 301, Zac!
Milwaukee's 2105 pen flashlight is pretty good too. They know what they're doing when it comes to pocket tools
Such a cool trade. Awesome video. God bless them all
Such a cool trade! I wanted to stay and learn it all😁
Always awesome videos man🤙
Good looking boots
I’d love to have a pair of Nicks boots but between my size (15EEEE) and price I will keep admiring them from afar. Everyone at the shop seems super chill and a great place to work
Awesome video! Keep up the good work!
I don’t mind paying the money for a good quality pair of boots. Your feet are important. I want something that can take a beating, be comfortable and lasts! The older I’ve got the more I splurge on my work boots. Beautiful boots! Definitely going to check Nicks boots out
Can’t recommend enough!🤘
the one healer had what looks like an old school drywall hammer. I use one every once in a while when i do arch way installation of drywall. those were used back when drywall was installed with nails and not screws
Amazing as Always
Lol these guys are all straight country. Love it though, they all seem like great people. Well made boots, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for tuning in!
Awesome video. Ironically I have been looking for a new pair of work boots and this company seems like a great American company that takes care of the employees I will definitely have to look at a pair of boots from them.
There's nothing better than handmade!
Super-fun and interesting video! Great work!
Love that they all have good everyday knives...nothing super expensive just goo quality everyday beater use blades
Same!
Pretty awesome guy at the end there.
I work at the sportsmans in spokane and I sold that guy his benchmade, really cool video!
Awesome video! Madeline looks like Uma Thurman in 'Pulp Fiction'. 🔥🔥😍
I like this pocket check because by and large the knives are no big deal. Really get a blue collar working people kinda vibe from most of the knife choices. At the end of the day it's just a tool to cut stuff no need for bling! Also... Nicks boots didn't know they existed now their on my list for next pair of boots!
No nonsense hard working tools are my jam💪
This was an awesome video! And I had just so happen to be looking for a pair of good work boots again. I’ve worn my wolf it rains damn near flat.
6:30 ~ I recognize that hammer! I know that Etsy seller. Fellow Ukrainian. Bought from him couple of times in the last several months. Small world.
Yep that milwaukee fastback goes with me most places.
Another great video!
Love all your videos
Glad you guys did this video, was very fun and interesting to watch. Never thought I'd be in the market for a quality boot, but I will be investing in a pair of Nick's boots in the future. Their boots look beautifully crafted, and look like they hold up to a lot of use.
Am I seeing some aftermarket scales for the Fastback?! That would be awesome, we all know they'll sell haha.
12:01 I used to carry my first knife in my coin pocket too! 🥰
(It also hides well in there, in addition to having your other pockets free and not having to squeeze your hand into the pocket while scraping your hand on your knife lol. Nowadays I carry a lighter in my watch/coin/fifth pocket, plus my smaller and slimmer secondary knife, dedicated for more filigree tasks.)
I kinda hate how small the pocket gets when you clip your main knife (not a small and nimble knife) in the regular front pocket. Every time I reach for my phone I am growling a little bit inside.
Excellent. TYFYS
I live 120 miles from post falls. I have never made it to Buck knives. Guess its time for a road trip!!!
I’m watching it from Ukraine right now and this is the last place where I thought I would hear someone mentioning my country. Nice video, love this format, big fan!
I love that the healer was using a roofing hammer.
23:28 for my Fenix I just unscrew the cap a tad when I keep it my pocket. And then just rescrew it when I use it. That seems to work best for me.
Hahaha!! I pulled up the transcript to try and figure out what the tool was at the 16min. mark. Now I really want a Pizza Pirate Tool, lol! On New Years Eve I was watching the ball drop and someone turned on captions and for like 30 minutes straight I was laughing at some of the stuff it came up with. Thanks for the extra laugh. Best wishes
