I'm getting a great education of the science and art of aromas from you, Aaron! Thank you!
Marty! I never would have expected to see you here. Aaron is fantastic with his reviews. So informative.
Kevin Samuels brought me here and I’m starting to see there’s levels to the cologne/perfumer game. I was a bit overwhelmed with the sheer knowledge being dropped in this video. Very good job and a very good video you have a new subscriber.
Aaron, for me this video represents perfectly the type of video which ticks all the boxes and satisfies every type of person who enjoy your videos. As a novice perfumer myself, the mentioning of the raw materials used in the fragrances you review is an essential feature that I always hope to see. Keep up the great work!
You're a class act, Aaron! Love everything you represent and how well you convey to us. Excellent as always!
Oud wood is one of my signature scents. I'm on my 3rd 100ml bottle. It's absolutely stunning. I don't seem to have performance issues with it. 7-8 hours respectively. With about 6-8 sprays. I can smell it on my clothing 3-4 days later when I do my laundry. The older batches lasted longer, 10-12 hours, I have some decants of the older batches and I save them for special occasions.
I do think people go nose blind to it and those are the people that think it doesn't last. I can wear it all day and when I come home, my wife can still smell it on me. Tom ford atomizers don't spray as much as a dior atomizer, so even at 6-8 sprays, you're probably not wearing as much as 4 sprays of any dior. Keep that in mind when judging the performance
@@HigherScents what? 6-8 sprays of oud wood in volume isn't very much actually. It's less than 4 sprays from any dior bottle, nishane, mfk The atomizer on tom fords don't produce much in comparison. About half the amount. So 6-8 sprays is the equivalent of 3-4 sprays of something like dior or MFK.
if you dont mind me asking, what batch code do you have? is it the 2021/2022 one or is it the old formulations
@@usmanturnbull5216 my newest bottle is A80 and it's wonderful
If you use it that much, it should be cheaper if you buy a 250ml one, right?
Hey bro, I was planning on buying it tomorrow as I loved the scent, but im reading everywhere that nowdays the performance of it is atrocious, doesn’t have any longevity, apparently you can hardly smell it after 1 hour?
As a new perfumer, learning on my own, I love your videos so much, you really help with understanding materials and what they do, and how they perform. Thank you.
I purchased this retail a few months ago and it performs very well on my skin. With only two sprays on my neck, my coworkers were able to pick up the scent 7+ hours later.
Is it the gold plaque or the grey plaque version? The former is the old formulation wihich has better longevity.
It can still be found in some shops. My brother bought the new version and it turns to a skin scent after 3-4 hours on his and my skin. Lots of people report that problem but some dont.
I also get around 7 hours, so no performance issues for me.
I bought my bottle from my local Nordstrom store in 2020. On my skin, it performs very well. It does project nicely and last all day and into the night on me. I may be an oddity, but that is my experience. It is one of my top favorites.
Nope, same with me. No performance issues at all.
That’s the same with me. Some fragrances just perform differently on different people. I get easily 10 hours with oud wood and good projection for about 5 after the 10 hours I can still smell it on clothes and on pulse points but just not as strong
Same. Tried it once, and it stayed on my skin for at least 12 hours.
I recently tried Oud Wood for the first time and I really like it. Classy, easy to wear and beautiful. It does seem to fade to a skin scent but I still could noticeably smell it on me the next morning and my shirt still smelled lovely. It does linger and is a great smell. One of my favorite so far
Sadly it fades from my skin after 2 hours! So it’s really really bad.
My first true love of a scent! I will never get tired of it, but totally agree with the performance issues…
I just bought Oud Wood and I don't have longevity issues. Its certainly not loud but it has staying power, especially on clothing. I didn't like it at first but it grew on me within a few weeks, works well on my skin.
i purchased oud wood back in 2009 when it was lesser known and it came in the original dark black amber bottle. I wore it religiously and it became my signature scent. i got a whole days worth of longevity and the sillage was incredible(only using 3-4 sprays). i received compliments left and right. I left a trail everywhere i went. The scent would also linger in my car and on furniture i would sit on. The 100ml bottle lasted well over two years. Later in the mid 2010's when TF released the oud collection(grey charcoal packing) i purchased another bottle and immediately noticed a significant difference. It had lost its deep intense richness from the first spray. the longevity was gone and the sillage wasn't there. There was without a doubt a reformulation. Truly heart breaking, it was the first signature i fell in love it. Its disappointing to know that its no longer on the market
I'd never smelled this until recently when I discovered a little container filled with a bunch of various sample fragrances. One was a 4ml bottle with twist cap, and gold label for Oud Wood. It's a golden colored liquid and smells amazing. A dab on the wrist lasts well over 12 hours for me! I have no idea when I received this little sample, or who gave it to me, but it must have been close to 15 years ago? Smells so unique and rich.
Don’t blame the fragrance companies. Blame the IFRA for banning every ingredient that made fragrances so great and powerful. That’s all the IFRA does, ban ingridients every few years resulting in reformulation after reformulation.
@ We need fragrance houses to push back more on all this insane regulation. The raw material companies aren't... they're making a fortune selling extremely expensive replacements for all this stuff.
As a female I love oud wood on me and it lasts until midday day strong and then it is close to skin. I grab compliments on it too
Tbh aaron, I mentioned carved oud by Thameen to you ages ago and you said it's a dupe of oud wood, BUT it's cheaper more polished and just lovely, it literally is lovely stuff.
Its higher priced then oud wood here in the Netherlands
@@aaronoldenburger3436 shame, were talking about uk. It is much better in its construction.
Thanks to Richard Herpin for this creation! He also made Patchouli Absolu by TF, btw.
Hi Aaron,
It used to be stronger in the gold label bottles, I own a 2007 and 2012 bottle. I also had a 2014 one that I didn't like that much but aging is a thing with Oud Wood, to me the newer ones have a strong anise accord that gives it a rubbery smell, that smoothens out when aged.
I thought i smelled party balloons in the initial notes 😂
You have style, mate!
Aaron I can never buy your products with Apple pay- it always says there is a technical issue. I have tried multiple times over quite a long period of time. Just wanted to let you know. Love your attitude and reviews. Lovely to hear all the chemistry behind the perfumery. Your products are also stellar. Very impressive. I know you used to struggle with videos. You have come such a long way. Congratulations- although im sure you don’t need me telling you. Respect due xj
Aaron your knowledge and passion for perfumery is on another level, its a pleasure to watch your channel. You sound like Tom Hardy.
You should review the new Parfum version of Tom Ford Noir Extreme
I will be the next time I film. Thank you for watching 🦄
@@AaronTerenceHughes can’t wait!
@@AaronTerenceHughes love your content Aaron please do a review on (( Ganymede )) , can't wait for that , thanks .
Great review. I just received a new bottle from Aug 2021 batch that appears to be one the first since the lilial removal reformulation, as butylphenyl methylproprianol is no longer a listed ingredient like it was earlier in the year. I noticed the addition of tocopherol to the ingredients as well. Not sure if either of these changes will have much impact, but we'll see. Smells great either way. I have a few Creed's that were post-lilial removal as well, and everything seems to be good with them, so I assume the perfume industry has found a suitable replacement.
I love your reviews Aaron. They are fantastic in my opinion. I also share a big love to TF Oud Wood. You are very inspirational. You encouraged me to learn a lot about the chemistry in perfumes that I became very fascinated.
I love Oud Wood. It was the first Tom Ford fragrance I obtained, back in 2015. I've never had a problem with the longevity and I can't speak for projection.
My dad been wearing this since I was born. Had to continue the tradition. Can’t go wrong with this one
Oud Wood will *always* be in my top 5. Amazing scent DNA.
You are one of my favorite perfume reviewers! I absolutely love your voice and you are so precise! I never buy dupes. I do prefer more male type scents but I’ve never smelt this but now I want to 👍🏼♥️ I love Tom Ford fragrances, makeup, clothes, everything he does.
same I never buy duplicates ...100 % with you on that
I have a bundle of friends that don't get why I do that but ... I have a billion answers for them but you know ... when you know you know ...
Oh man! That’s one thing I have never thought about the lower companies making duplicates of a fragrance. They are probably using unsafe materials just to lower the price. You are so right about that. Thank you for the info. Love your videos.😎
They discontinued most of the cosmetic products like Body Wash, Deodorant, etc. Which is kind of a shame. I do have an original Oud Wood vintage bottle and it's not really different in my opinion. Universally people always say any newer vintage of any perfume is weaker regardless of brand. I don't know if this is a psychosematic thing, or that fragrances that have longer to age get stronger over time, or what. What's your take, Aaron? I'm sure people will eventually start saying your older bottles are stronger, better, etc. despite formulations staying stable.
my aged bottle (2y) of Amyris Homme by MFK has almost doubled its projection and longevity compared to when it was new.
Nope , i have bottles from 2007 & it is different. Oud Wood has been reformulated 3 or 4 times over the last 15 years.
I agree with that. So YSL la nuit de L'Homme I didn't get around to til 2019 and people always tell me the vintage batches are better. I got a vintage batch and didn't smell too much of a difference but yet fragrances I had for longer I always say the newer batches are weaker so you may be right
I do think our pallet gets develop overtime and pickup thing that we couldn't before hens thinking the fragrance macerate overtime or it really did. Sometimes people say a new bottle smell exactly like their 10 year old bottle and I kinda believe those but when a pro like Aaron say that it's been reformulated then it gotta be.
From what I hear people's sense of smell just like other senses become less sensitive as we age so I wonder how much of it is the fragrance and how much of it is us.
I actually have a dupe of Oud wood from a company called perfume parlour based in Leicester. It’s £12-15 for 50ml and lasts well over 10-12hrs on me. Smells bang on too. I prefer to buy the real deal on fragrances but when dupes last longer and are cheaper sometimes I wonder why they can do it
I have the same one and it's like 95% the same. Something missing but honestly that's only if you look for it. And yeah it seems to last quite a bit longer
Hi Arron, Ive just started using molicule ambroxan 02 mixed with molicule ISO E Super 01 as the Creed Viking Cologne I purchased for over £250 turned out to be weak only lasted 5mins then vanished into a skin scent. So I used ISO E to help ( plus now I'll also moisturise the area where my frag will be going to ). It worked but now I know you've reformulated Animalix to Carbon, I'll be giving that a try. As my next buys are Amouge Reflection 43 Man & Interlude 53 and Im hoping your Carbon will makje it better. Great upload as usual.
What's better - using Ambroxan or Carbon?
@@Qualltoxygreat question. I have both and would love an answer. Have you decided?
I think you could make an absolute beast mode oud wood tbh Aaron, an "ATH" special edition version or something 😎👍🍺
Made with real Oud. I would definitely buy it.
not so sure i tried almost all OW dupes exepc carved and non of them has better than average perfomance. The best. atm is Al harrraamain 5 0 yrs anniversary platinum ....
@@subgrafik Carved Oud lasts 15 hours on my skin 12 of them projecting whereas Oud Wood only lasts about 3 imo
I Have Versace Oud Noir, Which Is An Inspiration From Oud Wood. I Absolutely Love It, One Of My Signature Scents, Just Beautiful. It's Me As A Fragrance🤎🖤
I'm curious about what you think of Versace Oud Noir and how much it compares to Oud Wood. I know they're not exact matches, but they are within the "ballpark" of scents.
Just bought tom ford oud wood, I am certain it has performance issues, just got creed aventus at the same time and creed in my opinion far exceeds oud in performance. Also got savage elixir parfum, and good lord that is 2 sprays needed only and lasts an unbelievable length of time.
Hi Terrence. Can Carbon be use nor layered with any other perfume?
Love your house by the way.
Have an awesome day.
I purchased a bottle when it was first released and enjoy it anytime I rock it. My brother ATH!! Peace, health and happiness to the community 🦄🦄
Just found your channel. Omg you would be amazing at ASMR!! I learned a lot about perfumes and the different smells and your voice is so relaxing to listen to!
I absolutely love Oud Wood. I think it is perfect. Could you please review TF Fougere D’Argent?. Great video!
You should review the house of Orto Parisi. It has the same perfumer than Nasomatto but more powerful, more projecting, more long lasting…… Sorry for my English. Congratulations for your channel. You are so good
Love the review! Oud wood is a timeless classic 😊 but for that price it has to last
Thanks for the great review. Am a big fan. Can you review the classic Joop next? It's so divisive, so interested to hear your take.
I love oud wood but have had issues with the longevity so I take a decant with me and reapply it. I don’t mind dups or replicas that’s are better and cheaper. Dua is perfect for it. I wanna buy your frags from you but that shipping hurt my lil feelings 🤣. You’re a great perfumer and reviewer
Can someone help me here. Am I wrong. This fragrance lingers for hours and hours on my skin. days on clothes- and is the main scent on my couch even when I'm not wearing it. It's a beautiful scent with fantastic performance.
A technical masterclass in fragrances, Sir. Merely an idea, why not run classes in this? I'm sure you'd be fully booked ♥
Interesting way to review perfumes. Very unique compared to other reviewers. Thank you!
I love this scent. But you're right Aaron, there is a definite performance issue for me. I don't need it beast mode, but it's a light skin scent after an hour on my skin. I use a dupe that is very close to the original, but it lasts and projects for a much longer time.
Care to drop the name friend:)
Try Thameen - Carved Oud
I consider perfumery an art form in the same vein as a painter, chef, sculpter etc. So for another party to create their version of a hugely successful piece of art whatever it is is pretty inevitable. We see it in almost everything in life. A simple example I have given in the past is grocery shopping. A chef at Mctvities created the hob nob,, since then every single supermarket has copied and created their own version and some are better then others and by and large they are cheaper than the original (sound familiar). If you think about it what successful product has not been copied in some way across any industry? So I don't worry too much about it,, if a fragrance is fantastic it will continue to sell and a few "inspired by" releases may even increase the desirability of the original. So, it should not happen but it does and will never stop. Lasltly I have a 10ml of Guapo, great fragrance. I also like watching your very unique style of reviewing... Lyric man smelling like bubble bath was a good one for me,, i thought it was just me that felt that way. 😁
Perfume is a different kind of art because an artist can use contrast of beauty and ugliness to create strong emotions in us but perfume is only beauty and the pursuit of beauty it’s as we call it in french un acte d’esthète it’s about aesthetic…
@@zenttofrizzy8479 disagree... there are countless examples where a generally iunpleasant note is used with other notes to create something that challenges our noses. Dont know what "diffetent kind of art means"? Different from what and how are you defining the normal in art? It takes years of traoning and a fair dose of talent to create something beautiful in perfimery as it does in painting, cookery, carpentry and pretty much all artisanal persuits as I said. 😁.
I agree!
When I was new to perfumery, I used to buy copycat fragrances because I didn't know about Facebook groups etc where you can buy samples of expensive fragrances
I'd buy the inspired- by ones to try on my skin and to wear for extended periods, then I'd go to a shop and spray the real thing to compare side by side, then I'd buy the original expensive one if I liked it
Man I miss my oud wood 😭 I sold it years ago and I regret it
I've never had issues with oud wood. It lasts 12+ hrs on me with noticeable projection. If I use it at night I will easily smell it on me the next day.
I have a bottle of Oud Wood half full from 3 years ago, Tom Ford fragrances on my skin are so long-lasting, a beautiful scent I love it.
I would like you to review Rogue Perfumery because it isn’t IFRA compliant due to use of real oak moss and other substances that are limited in amounts allowed in perfumes. Despite that, their perfumes are incredible
I also get a sssslight clean, spearminty scent from TF Oud wood which I adore. Not sure if thats the "dentist scent" you're referring to?
sadly no projection at all and very little longevity on my skin, but the scent is brilliant. 👍🏻 Thanks for the review.
Try oud wood + Iso E Super (like Molecule01), Applying Iso even after drydown.
Your reviews are amazing... I wish i can try one of yours perfumes, especially something close to Tobacco Oud... Oud Wood is excellent but Tobacco Oud is phenomenal...
I have Oud Wood and the ‘highest rated’ clone called Woody Oud. You can tell the difference in the material quality. The Woody Oud is misses the metallic aspect and complexity. I still love the clone; I layer it with the TF or use it as a household fragrance.
I would love to see your take on TF noir from you Aaron. Its a gem in my opinion but wonder why its not so popular.
Hi ! I tried it once and I loved it . I want definitely to buy it. I didn't have any problem with longevity
So where would I get carbon? I never heard of that technique. I’m nothing more than an average consumer. Just curious and wanting to find new and better ways to enjoy my favorite fragrances. Nice video, peace! ✌🏻
I've had an old bottle for years now, maybe 8 or more. It wasn't quite as long lasting as Tobacco Vanille I bought at the same time but it projected well (someone walked past at work about 10m away and said god that's amazing). It never seemed to last anywhere near as long and with TV I could always smell it the next morning or even in the afternoon if I'd showered. It stayed on my clothes for 2 days or more too (obviously not tshirt/shirt but coat/hoody/sweatshirt/jumper). I bought 100ml of TV a few years ago when the original ran out and I feel like it's half as strong. I've some recent TF decants for testing and they seem to be similar in terms of not being as strong lasting. They project pretty well. I find my strongest TF now is black orchid, that seems stronger than all the others, including a Neroli Portofino from a few years back.
Mine is an old formulation so it performs very well. On the question, Tom Ford is very much an 'inspired by' house itself, so much so that they did a take on their own Tuscan Leather! I don't have a problem with it, as long as there's a clear deviation from what inspired you.
This fragrance is amazing! I bought the original and after bought the clones so I don't waste the original. I haven't had a chance/pleasure to smell your fragrances yet but one day I hope to try all the ATH line. I've heard your unique abilities to create fragrances is par none. Just wondering what I should try 1st.
any good clones?
Lovely review,is it suitable to wear in summer?
I'm afraid to say my TF Lost Cherry does not last long either. Is it a TF thing or does some of his fragrances really last? I think spraying it on clothes is the safer option for longevity. Thanks for the review 🙂
Waiting for my paycheck to get the 9x10ml set from you Aron. I just bought 5 mancera fragrances, 2 oud fragrances from them and ofcourse aqua wood which I love. Also added quercia from acqua di parma. Can't wait to smell your fragrances :) .
How where they?
Great review as always! btw, what microphone are you using? It sounds great!
Man im trying so hard to find a wood scent like abercrombie/fitch and tom ford but from what im hearing they dont last even 5-6 hours. Just bought 8 samples from xerjoff coming in the mail so im hoping i like one of them but i would just LOVE a go to recommendation for “wood” scent. Couldve sworn A&F has this similar feel to mahogany and taekwood
I have the DUA version of oud wood - and it is both significantly cheaper and better performance. It is a straight up banger. I would like to try carbon soon
if Aaron says YES thats a big YES!! kudos Champ
I had never tried Oud fragrances on myself - but ordered some samples and tried your Oud - OBSESSED. Needless to say im not tempted to try any others now lol
I purchased the travel size first then after I run out of it I immediately bought the 50ml I love it so much it smells incredible!
Hello,Aaron…if you would purchase bottle of oud wood ,which size would you prefer to buy…(no matter price difference)
We NEED Rojas Sweetie Oud. Very very interested in your thoughts of this "pastry" accord
Thanks Aaron I'll most likely be trying this one this week will be buying the 50ml
It’s a bit like the Carved Oud from Thameen that you reviewed recently, where they had taken Oud Wood & ‘improved’ it. I still have a bottle of the original release of Oud Wood from 2007 & it was a lot stronger than it is now (same with Tobacco Vanille which is a shadow of what it was)
In the perfumer’s arsenal. Careful how you say that. Totally made my day.
Hello Aron. Can you please make a video about most 'legal'/safe fragrances for health. Best brands by that variable in your opinion. I would be very thankfull.
Great revieuw. I been a fan of oud wood every time I smell it. But the heavy price point and gearing it does not perform well keeps me away from buying it.
Absolutely love your review of Oud Wood. Mine is 2017 and is a beast mode performer in all seasons. I have Animalix which I love and contemplating getting Carbon. Is there any difference between the 2 if any. Why the name change?
Im guessing that its a well built oud / cardamom base (30 or more materials) that acts as the main heart thats made up of aroma chemicals (some naturals). Then by “notes of sandalwood” im assuming that rather than incorporating a full sandalwood accord they use notes like, Bacdanol, Ebanol, vertofix etc. Im sure it provides more flexibility in terms of what kind of sandalwood notes you want rather than that full creamy sandalwood accord.
I m so glad to meet you sir.
This was my 1st Tom Ford buy. What a scent!!! Worth the 💵.
I own a 2016 bottle, and it performs pretty well, i do not think, that it has to be a beast, it is a classy scent after all.
I get 12 hours on my skin, afher the 6th hour i feel it weaker, but it is pretty solid performer on my skin.
That's just a straight up lie but go on 😂
@@Smoke_C i didnt mean that i get 12 hours of insane projection, 6 to 12 hour is a skin scent, i do not think that the classy scent has to overpower over your personality.
Aaron do you ship youre fragrances to Spain?
Best
Would love to see a review of Oud Minerale off their Resort Collection. Have heard good things about the rerelease
Hi Aaron
Do i need Carbon if i already own Animalix which i think it will get empty by 2053🙃
I feel like James Bond with his grey suit wearing this.
Hey, Aaron, when you say “GALAC WOOD” , I can’t help but wonder if you’re saying Gaiac wood which I’ve heard of several times in perfumery? Just an observation
First off, I'd like to say that I love this review, and your reviews in general. It offers an unique perspective you can hardly find nowadays, when you're not interested in the typical "Get those 5 to drop panties on Friday night".
Regarding the scent, it was one of go to fragrances, even when staying at home and I just wanted to appreciate a masterfully blended perfume. I do think that the old bottles with the golden label used to have much better performance. The time I bought this fragrance was in mid 2021, and to be quite honest, the performance is insulting, especially for the asking price that keeps getting higher and higher.
I'll always appreciate master perfumery and the art of blending something this good, but nowadays I feel that whenever I'm paying for Tom Ford, I'm paying for marketing, not perfumery.
It's disappointing.
The term 'oriental' is not offenive, to whom would it be? I have a nice story. A friend of mine used to sell perfume oils from Al-Haramain. He had their dupes of 'Oud Wood' and 'Black Aoud' from Montale, and by accident he mixed them together. The result was fascinating. It smelled so awesome. Maybe somebody over here has both of the originals and could try that on his arms. I would love to get a feedback.
Hello Aaron. I was wondering if you could review , or if you have tried, the oud wood clone by Lattafa , woody oud.
Thank you . I love your channel, I could listen to you all day .
Epic review Aaron.....love ya bro...
I smelled this eau de parfum about a week ago. My expectations were really high, because of all of the favorable reviews out there, including this one. In reality and honestly, roughly 400,00$ for something that essentially smells like pine sap is ludicrous, to say the least.
What about Chanel Allure Homme Sport edt (not eau extreme)?🤔
You have an amazing voice, love listening to your reviews. Very hypnothizing. Will you review the brand new Armani Code Parfum released a few days ago next? :)
Yes
when I next do the next round of filming🦄
You should review Carved Oud from Thameen - which I find smells how Oud Wood *should* smell..
Great review..love oud wood.. clones are always not clean in my opinion and unwell blended..fantabulous video
Pretty sure it's Parfum de Marly - Haltane which is the big company you mention using the Oud Wood dna
Oud Wood is easily the worst performing fragrance I've encountered. It's gone in 2 hours - not just a skin scent or fleeting/airy, but completely GONE. Returned it after a few days. Smells amazing for the 30 minutes it's actually present though.
Great review!
I love you aaron terence you are a real artist!!! ❤️
