What tourists tend to be oblivious of when it comes to the "renovation" of London, is it was the Luftwaffe that helped with the "alteration" of the landscape - it wasn't called "The Blitz" for nothing.
So true. Watching this I as thinking, gosh it all looks so new and clean and modern- then I remembered that Germany paid London and few visits not so long ago.
My family had a bomb shelter in the garden, and every time they would hear the siren at night, they had to get out of bed and go into the garden. In the end my great grandad refused and just said ‘if they’re gonna get me, I’ll die comfortable in bed’. Thankfully they were spared.
You are definitely right about that and as a matter of fact another famous structure that was destroyed during the Blitz, over in France the infamous apartment room that was once rented by Vincent van Gogh, was destroyed during the blitz.
Very cool and detailed location video! Elizabeth Stride came originally from Gothenburg, Sweden where I live. Last summer I was really into the mystery of Jack The Ripper. I did some research and found Elizabeths childhood home. It’s located in Stora Tumlehed.
Fun fact: In London she was called "Long Liz" because she was, as a woman, 165 cm tall. Male average was about 168 cm. People were incredibly short back then. Today a woman at 165 cm is barely average, in countries like Sweden certainly less than that.
This video is so well put together. With the lining up the old photos to your partner standing in correct locations and also your knowledge and commentary is great. Chefs kiss, fantastic video. RIP to these women who never got to see their kids or families again.
So awful. Absolutely glorifies him. They were real women. Imagine your mother being klled like that and there were dummies of her body being used for entertainment. That was meant to be a museum for women of the east end, celebrating their success. Instead, it’s glorifying a mrderer and selling blood spattered tourist items. The women are dehumanised and don’t even matter, the gore is more important. ‘Fun day out for family’. wtf.
I absolutely love the perfect alignment of the present day & historical images. I really appreciate that detail. I like to pause to look back & forth in time 👏🏼
This was such a well produced video and even the loud outside was edited so that it didn't interfere with the wonderful narration. Truly an underrated channel!

I was born in London and have been on the ripper tours. You did an awesome job. The ten bells pub was much smaller years ago only one small bar and no upstairs. It was called the jack the ripper for a while. Then it was sold and made into the place it is today. Really love your posts.

There’s been so many changes in London. Many of the old buildings and Ripper sites have sadly gone. I’ve done several tours over the years and gone around on my own which is the best way. It’s such a shame that they demolished historic places.
@@realong2506 Redevelopment of London has done the most damage. There were lots of areas still around from the Ripper era. I remember the cobbled Streets and buildings around Mitre Square etc. I didn’t take any pictures years ago sadly, but they are well documented.
@@camrondirossi3249 London is a working City. A lot of History has gone because of so called progress. The skyline of old London has just become tower blocks and the past erased.
Thank you for this video. One night, I went down an Internet rabbit hole about the murders and I too was trying to use street view to see where these places were. It's cool to see your tour of the murders. Thank you again!
I have done the tour and researched and visited the streets myself. I really admire how much effort you put into your research. You did it better than I did for sure. thank you M & J This has to be one of my favourite videos of yours now❤️
The Jack The Ripper museum is worth a visit. I recently paid a visit to the graves of Annie Chapman and Mary Kelly. I would also recommend the 10 Bells pub to anyone travelling around Whitechapel, its like stepping back in time when you step foot inside the pub.
Nice to see you over here investigating our hauntings and murder sites. If you're still over here you should also check Hampton Court Palace and the obvious one, the Tower of London. Oh, and you could also check out what was once Fred West's 25 Cromwell Street.
Thank you for doing this video. The last time I was in London I discovered too late about the Jack the Ripper tours. The only tour available before I was scheduled to leave was on the same night I had theater tickets. It was a great show, but I also regret not being able to take that tour. But I don't think it would have been as good as this Grimm Adventure.

Another well researched and wonderfully delivered episode. I've been on the Jack the Ripper tours over the years but your research and the detail you include is more interesting. I'd also recommend Hallie Reubenhold's The Five - brings the victims alive and gives them their identity, not just extensions of their murderer
My first time on your channel. Thank you so much for all of the hard work you no doubt went to in order to bring this most fascinating of true stories.
Hi guys! One thing that I would recommend is reading The Five by Hallie Rubenhold. It came out a few years ago and further investigates the five women who were the victims of Jack the Ripper and goes more into detail about who these women really were. Something people don’t really look into!
@@GilbertSyndrome yeah, I believe some of them had children and abusive husbands and their kids got taken off them and the man got the kids and kicked the woman to the curb. Also I believe one of them was Scandinavian and subjected to STD testing the police did at the time. Absolutely humiliating.

Fantastic presentation guys! Very well done! 👍👏.

Im hackney born and raised plus 45 lol i remember the old whitechapel before it was built up plus i see the krays house before pulled down x
The same thing happened in Germany, too. Whole cities were annihilated. It's sad that countries ever go to war.
Blitz means lightening
I live about an hour away from Whitechapel I went to a Jack The Ripper museum on 12 cable street and omg I thoroughly enjoyed every second 😊
I like to pause to look back & forth in time 👏🏼
Great video, that area was the poorest in London in 1888. Now it’s the most prime real estate in Britain worth billions of dollars.
This was such a well produced video and even the loud outside was edited so that it didn't interfere with the wonderful narration. Truly an underrated channel!
Appreciate your coming to the UK and making your cool videos. From a born and bred Londoner, you're very welcome here and I personally love your channel
This is my favorite UA-camr channel EVER! I can't stop watching your videos
“Commit no nuisance” on an old sign actually means “Do not urinate here”.
, nowadays you could have signs 'saying just shut up', would have similar meaning, I'd add a laughter emoji but it's too correct 👆🏻💯
The 11th Commandment.
Love this I took this tour in the early 2000s
You all need to know, there's someone impersonating you on UA-cam attempting to draw people over, using your moniker! Great show guys!
What!!! no one like these two treasures!
Annie Chapman didn’t live at 29 Hanbury Street. She met a customer here who killed her in the backyard. Annie was homeless and lived in doss houses.
Annie Be less minus a Home
Such a good video and love that you explored different pertinent scenes, showing the old scenes compared to present day,
This is amazing and one of the most visually well done with the pictures. Thank you guys! 💜
Thank you so much. That's the best tour everybody can get, cause you line up the photos so perfect, that we can clearly see the history with our own eyes. Great job.
You are awesome, and thank you for the kind words. We are really happy everyone is liking this adventure in history
Welcome to the uk guys hope your enjoying your vist apparently ive heard stories about the houses of Parliament and its secret underground tunnels @grimmlifecollective
I was born in London and have been on the ripper tours. You did an awesome job. The ten bells pub was much smaller years ago only one small bar and no upstairs. It was called the jack the ripper for a while. Then it was sold and made into the place it is today. Really love your posts.
Michael , Jessica absolutely brilliant work well done . Love seeing you doing what you do best here in the UK. ❤❤
The Mary Kelly crime scene photo is the most brutal, hellish crime photo I’ve ever seen, feel bad for the poor bastard that discovered that
I have no business watching this entire video at 6:56am on a Monday but here we are 😂
Brilliant episode. I worked in Whitechapel years ago. So much dark history.
I am a direct descendant to Mary Ann Nichols and that was the first time I’ve seen a picture of her alive thank you very much as I’ve only ever seen her corpse
Hi Angie. Im 100% sure there's only one photo of the Polly as a corpse? Even though other photo's are occasionally used. There's only one original photo of Charles Lechmere/Cross the man who was seen standing with your ancestor Polly. Charles is also my direct ancestor.
@susanclapp1721 I saw a programme years ago called 'the missing evidence' where they looked at Charles Cross as a possible suspect.

@@RileErenoh wow you’re an expert on this commenter’s family lineage? Tell me more about her family’s history since you’re so sure she's not related to whom it may concern she says.

She is a liar for attention.
You're so gullible
Y'all ALWAYS go the extra steps when you're walking through, and with, history. This is why your vlogs totally rock. It's your attention to not just the visual details, but all the details, that put you two on the Mount Rushmore of True Crime/Real Life Vloggers. Thank you for bringing us to London! Hope to meetcha in Lex KY come October. 🖤✌🌮
Thanks for uploading this, it was great to see the old photos ❤❤ and hi from New Zealand 😊
Im so glad you guys have done this video! I commented on another video i would like to see you guys do a jack the ripper video and im so glad you have. I hope you enjoyed london. I love your videos and its lovely to see you in england. Fave youtubers by far!
There’s been so many changes in London. Many of the old buildings and Ripper sites have sadly gone. I’ve done several tours over the years and gone around on my own which is the best way. It’s such a shame that they demolished historic places.
But that's what they tend to do. Maybe they wanted to wipe that part of its history
I beleive they lost a lot of the orginal Ripper sites during the Blitz. Many homes and areas in London where distroyed during the war.
Aided by the Luftwaffe...
Thank you for this video. One night, I went down an Internet rabbit hole about the murders and I too was trying to use street view to see where these places were. It's cool to see your tour of the murders. Thank you again!
I have done the tour and researched and visited the streets myself. I really admire how much effort you put into your research. You did it better than I did for sure. thank you M & J This has to be one of my favourite videos of yours now❤️
I have always been fascinated by Jack The Rippers' unsolved murders.Thank You for the awesome story telling & actual visuals! Great back ground work!
Love your videos bro! You’ve done so many locations I’m not able to visit myself so this is amazing for me! x
Nothing can beat this channel
I’ve seen pretty much every documentary on these events and none of them even come close to yours… you’ve made it such a personal homage to these 5 women and shown such respect and your knowledge is spot on. Kudos to you for the hard work and research needed to create this. Best one I’ve seen and I thank you for that!!
Found your channel by chance, and I'm really glad I did. I love these kinds of history tours and all the knowledge about the locations. The comparisons between the streets then and now were pretty cool as well.
Also, I love Jessica's sunglasses. I'm never without mine.
Another Grimm Adventure? Yes please! Thanks Michael and Jessica.
Now this is a video that no one other than GrimmLife is better suited for. A great video of such a macabre real-life event.
Always trying to walk history. Thank you for watching
@@grimmlifecollective You do an outstanding job and that is why I'm a proud supporter of the channel. Thank you for all you do as I recognize that the amount of work involved to bring these videos to life is extreme.
Thank you for all the research you do!! My favorite part is how you line up photos!! Love watching you guys!!!!!
Interesting tour. Well done. The whole legend of Jack is so mysterious. Hope to visit someday.
Your research is amazing, along with the pictures that seem to take us there👌
My favourite dynamic duo, putting out the very best content on UA-cam!
been following the info since i was 11. 47 years later.. great appreciation for this work. thank you
just for your entertainment ... my 2nd great grandmothers sister Amelia Young (also a member of the family who formed the Youngs fish company) married Bernard Eddowes ... nephew of Catherine Eddowes. He was born here in the east end after the whole family moved from up north..... oh and the building is known to Londoners as the gherkin
You rock man. You are the bomb. It is amazing to think you stood where these murders happened. Thanks again.
Hi Michael & Jessica. This is so cool. Great attention to detail. Love the look of the Ten Bells ! RIP Mary, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary K. xx
Hiya from New Zealand. Your videos and research are fantastic. Thank you so much!
always been fascinated by old victorian london as my mums family is from there loads of history and still some beautiful gothic victorian buildings, i hope the souls of the victims of jack the ripper are in peace
Very interesting video! Awesome editing with the old pictures!
Wow! You’ve done such an amazing job. I was captivated the whole time.
Brilliant. A new refreshing take on a story we have heard 1000 times. I am glad you came to England and made this one. 👍
Another fantastic video. The Jack the Ripper murders exposed the poverty that was around the Whitechapel area, whilst before the residents were left to their own devices.
Host populations still ARE.
Brilliant stuff, I was wondering when a Ripper video was going to surface, seeing as you have been in England , knew it would only be a matter of time
A pint at the Ten Bells is absolutely a bucket list item. Thanks for dragging us along on another outstanding Grimm adventure.
From Hell
I took the Jack the Ripper tour 30ish years ago and enjoyed a fantastic pint at the Ten Bells, btw my last name is Frahm.
@mrnosaj71
Nice to meet ya Jason.
Be over 7 quid a pint now👀👍
So glad you guys visited the Ten Bells. Was hoping that you did that. Infamous person for sure hung out there. GREAT video as always.
First video I've seen of your channel and I'm thoroughly impressed. Well researched, some nice shots, good pacing, and great narration. Subscribed for more.
I found your Channel through your Whitby abbey video
So excited to watch this one ! 😊🖤🖤
Happy you found us…Hope you enjoy our other adventures. 🎃
Thank you. I spent a night in Whitechapel in 1996, and it was so damn creepy back then.
Thank you so much
What a great adventure to go on with you’ll
The way you line up the photos
Really takes us back in time
No one does it better
Much appreciated
I love how much work you invest in your videos. Your love for details is remarkable especially historical facts. I enjoy your videos, it’s like you’re taking me to these places 🫶
I agree it's a great book
@Aless81 Is that the book where she pretends that they weren't prostitutes because it doesn't suit her feminist agenda? I haven't read it!
@@crose7412 Nope, she admits they were prostitutes. I don’t remember if all of them were though since it’s been a while since I read the book.
@@Aless81Mary Jane, as far as we know, was actively soliciting, but the others weren't necessarily prostituting by trade, but by necessity.
This vlog will get one of your highest viewings i reckon ! ..Good luck great stuff
Yet another great video, the time and energy you both put in is astounding and much appreciated.👍
That was a great tour, horrifying and sad but great. You both treat the victims with respect.
Just found your channel..and now I’m hooked !
Your content is amazing and very informative. What camera do you use for the filming, the quality is incredible. Thank you, keep up the great work. 👍
As a Ripper fanatic and a subscriber to your channel, I was sooooooooo blown away that did this video. You did a great job. I think you have probably one of the best channels on the Tube.
I've also taken the Ripper Tour but seeing the photos you meshed together just brings it more to life than ever, such a great job, thank you.👻
J.T.R. is the ultimate Grimm story and location, I've really gotten into it because of UA-cam and the old remaining London streets and remaining atmosphere. So envious, THANKS ! I agree that he may have caught syphilis from a prostitute, lost his mind and got revenge.
Great video, thank you for sharing. I'm from the UK, yet barely knew any of the information you gave. I'll make sure to stop by some of the locations when I'm next in London. Gonna check out some more of your videos as this was a great watch!
Eeek I’m so excited to watch this video! I was obsessed with Jack the Ripper and to this day, still am! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us!
Me too!
@UofficialGrimmlifecollective of course I loved it!!!
My wife and I were just there for our honey moon and did the tour.! Super cool
Really fab video. Love the gentle way you present the subject and your love of the history around you

Awesome 😎 work and visit to London. Very interesting, I did a book report in high school in 1982 on Jack the Ripper. I got a A+ . Keep up the great job.
This was a great watch! Thank you for doing all the research and all the hard work you put into this.
I just subscribed!
My daughter and I did what you did only sorry the victims not remembered at all those places we drank at 10 bells and toasted to all the ladies. Thank you for your visit, we love all your content x
