Fantastic job - I don’t think there’s been a more authentic break down of this camera and a more skilled example of what can be produced out of the camera. I’m looking at an M8.2 or M9 because of you again damnit.
I’m a proud new owner of an M8 and stumbled upon your videos. My Voigtlander 28mm should be arriving tomorrow, but I think you’ve convinced me to also snag the Zeiss! Those photos really pop and look amazing. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more videos!
Awesome video and amazing photos, really showcased how special the colours are on it! I absolutley love the M8, it really is just the most fun digital camera i've ever shot with!
Hi, just wanted to say that your video also had influence on finaly purchasing same silver M8 and even same Ultron. I must say, experience is worlds apart anything I had and it is definitely a tool which requires to work with rather throw at it everything. It’s highly engaging camera and oh my god, at right time CCD colors are so pure and clean I don’t even want to edit it at all. Also, what presets do you use? I also think that IR filter might be not necessary a lot of you want to experience a camera the way Leica wanted you to experience it.
I did not expect this video to be so inspiring, but hearing you speak so thoughtfully about using a digital camera with the same intention as a film camera really makes me want to go shoot 🙂
Amazing pictures! I do love your compositions. I agree: without at least an IR filter, this sensor cannot offer its best. I almost had the same problems with the Sigma Merrill with my DP cameras without an UV filter. These "old" techs had some vibes and colors but so many constraints: but without pressure, no diamonds... I'll keep a look at your channel, thanks for the trip
Love this guy's energy. Wishing you luck with your channel bro! The M8 is oftentimes overlooked (especially when compared to the M9), but it's a special little piece of kit. I love the 1/8000 shutter speed option. Could occasionally leave the ND filters at home when paired with such a [relatively] fast shutter speed for a Leica M.
I shot my M8 regularly at ISO1250 and was absolutely pleased by the quality. Quality falls off pretty quick though when you try to push those shots a bit further than that in post. But properly exposed ISO1250 are perfectly usable.
I enjoyed this video a lot, Marcus! I too am an M8 owner and recently I've paired it with the new 28 Ultron and it is fantastic. I love your photos for their soul and it seems like the M8 is a perfect companion to your style. Oh and fellow, ZM lens user too.
I come from micro four thirds and occasional film shooting. So I can easily adjust to the downsides. After looking at many sample images across the internet from this camera I’m 100% convinced that I would be using this as I would a film camera. So I’ll be setting the ISO at 160, if I must change it I won’t be going past ISO 640, exposing for shadow detail when needed, and shooting at a stopped down aperture in bright sunny days to keep the shutter speed down. Basically how anyone would shoot film and a micro four thirds camera. I got used to exposing for shadows and recovering the highlights because of the micro four thirds sensor can do it almost like film can. All in all I’ve put up my Olympus M5 III for sale as well as a couple of lenses to help fund for the M8. I’m going to be getting a Voigtlander 28mm f/2 Ultron because it’s close to 35mm which is my favorite focal length. Then I’ll save for a Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron which will give me 46mm full frame equivalent which is close enough to 50mm. I think I’ll be very happy with this camera and glad I found a mint condition M8 in black which is the color I wanted. Just stick some black tape on the 2 logos for a more sleek look and I’ll be experiencing the rangefinder camera for the first time which I know I’m going to love anyways. Glad I found your channel and the many M8 videos. You really helped me on making the hard decision to sell my beloved Olympus M5 III to buy a Leica M8. Hope to see more videos on the M8 and love the film videos as well!
Hi, late to dropping onto this video. It is probably one of the best 'organic' reviews of the M8. I Have yet to own an M8. The bodies are now reasonable. But you need good glass, and the lens and good glass costs! Possibly thr reason for the look of the photos comming out of the M8 is to do with it's Kodak CCD sensor. Bck in the day when film (as was then) was comming to an end, Kodak engineers were tasked to produce a sensor that could as close as digitally possible, produce similar photos as their Kodachrome film. A smaller version of this sensor (Four Thirds - Not Micro) was put into a few early Olympus digital cameras - same era as the M*. Olympus E1, E300, E400 & E500. So anyone looking to get a similar look could check out those - more affordable options. Although as times go by those cameras and lens are becoming harder to find and the prices are increasing. Anyways. Loved your video. I'll check out some of your other work.
Interest, composition, light, color, you've got it all. And the Viateur Bagel shop in Montreal! Way to go! And it is good to see you posting again. I was afraid the hogs ate you. ;o)
well you made me do it i bought a M8 the other day ive been watching your videos for a while always great content ! cant wait to get my M8 I might just sell my M6 depending how much i like it because film is getting crazy expensive.
M8 excellent camera to get in to Leica M . Limitations definitely But only photography Basic settings but excellent files if your glass is sharp . I’ve had mines since 2009 & love it ..
Just found and about to purchase an M8 with only 2383 actuations, quite excited. Thanks for your videos, they’ve been great to watch while I decide to get an M8 or not.
I'm the lucky owner of an 8.2 Safari Set with 28 Elmar. I use it like a film camera at 160 ASA. The never ending roll of Kodachrome Thanks for yr video!
Not sure what it is but every time I see Leica photos, no matter which model for the most part, they ALL have a certain look that reminds me of something out of a fashion magazine. I don’t know if it’s the shades of colors, the sharpness that’s still soft in a sense, etc…just a very unique look to them. Also, I agree with you on the megapixel topic. I still regularly shoot with a Leica X2 that’s near 10+ years old and it’s absolutely top notch. I have a TL2 also but I find myself reaching more often for the X2. Just checks all of the boxes
Excellent take on the M8, I have one and also an M9P but for some reason, I tend to pick up more the M8. I use mine naked (filter-less) lol Suscribed! :)
I love how many downsides there are to this camera.. and yet when I originally saw that photo of the blue pool with the red juice. I knew I had to scoop. I learned about the m8 after researching Foveon sensors (three layer sensors which are extraordinarily color accurate and can also get very filmic results). Decided to go m8 due to lens mount limitations with the foveon sensor cameras. Question: what do you do in post? Just some contrast and saturation adjustments? Any filters you’ve put together by chance?
I just love the filmic results you get from this camera. I typically tweak a bit of the contrast and blacks and exposure…maybe adjust WB leave it alone
Hi Marcus. You are the big reason, or should i say that because of this video i have bought both the M8 and Voigtlander Ultron; because i love the outcome images alot. However i'm still struggling with producing similar images as your (though i do have the ir cut filter). I'm just really curious and thus want to ask you what's your setting for the M8; for example saturation, color temperature, EV, etc. Thank you so much for bringing us into this amazing camera!
i believe there was a M8 sensor replacement program at some point. If you do buy a used one you may want to check and see if the original owner took advantage of that program.
Hello, congratulations for your videos always and for! If I may I wanted to ask you something, what battery do you use for the Leica M8? do you still have the original? If so, how long does it last? If you have found a replacement battery, which brand or model would you recommend?
Yea man I have the m8 as well and experience the same occurrence with my sensor...it doesn't happen too often but when it does..such a bummer but still love the image output.. I guess its like when film shooters get back scratched developed film..
yoo Im sure you looked into it, but also consider the 28 ultron V2..... I feel like the formfactor and focusing tab is much better then V1, Ive owned both.

I didn’t even realize it was a crop sensor. Oh well! Can’t wait to get my m8. Great video man, I loved it
Yea but honestly it doesn’t really matter just make sure you have a sensor that’s not failing on you bro
beautiful work, Marcus. I am very interested in buying one of those.

awesome colour on your photos!

Great shots! The sunlit shots really pop, they're fantastic. The non-sunlit, you could lift the white and contrast a little to bring them to life.
Thank you so much

Keep that bad boy
i believe there was a M8 sensor replacement program at some point. If you do buy a used one you may want to check and see if the original owner took advantage of that program.
Great tip brother
such a nice camera. Limitations make my photography journey more fun!
Exactly bro
Could you say something about your editing process? What typically is adjusted in lightroom? I love the way you treat the colors......

Very nice images
Obvious that you are an all about the shots, not the gear. Fantastic attitude!
Thats the focus bro
Can you recommend anyone for ir cut filter?
Love your work 🤙🏼 just purchased an M9. I love the colors as is but does anyone know if I need an UV/IR filter like the M8 does?
Nope you dont need it bro
Maybe the M9 with the sensor already replaced is a better option at this point for the same CCD benefits?
Did you ever compared the M8 to a M9 / ME (220)?
You got an eye for color and beauty. Good thoughts aswell.
I really appreciate that bro
Man, I wish you could give a little insight into your post processing. Lightroom? Are making very drastic changes or nah? cheers
Very little editing

Nice vid! I hear you on the UV/IR filter... I don't use them. I keep my M8 as a poor man's monochrome machine.
