The sound was a big band- and swing-influenced disco with the soulful vocals of Cory Daye. The band that was formed in the Bronx, New York.
Such an underrated and hidden gem this song is 🙌🏼
Use to hear this at night on the radio while doing my 8th grade homework.
Loved this as a kid of 15, now 62🎵🎼🎶🎼🎵🤠
What you said. I'm 56
Same 59, sitting on the stoop and blasting
I was 10 years old when this album came out in 1976-1977, and this whole album was on fire!!! My mom and uncle (may they both RIP) played the whole album front and back. Great memories.
They have a lot of gold in This lane. Hard Times, Sunshower, Transistor, etc.
Danced to this many nights back in the 70s at the Broadway club in Denver Colorado
I hadn't noted that this ol' pick of mine was posted!
Much to unpack here.
First of all the piano guy was Creole's half-bro. He unfortunately passed after the bros fell out and reunited. These 2 were the creative geniuses behind "Dr Buzzard."
Note the name check at the beginning of Tommy Mottola. I guess he was a young up and comer in the biz at the time. He eventually became a major music mogul and husband, I think, to Mariah Carey.
And yes the marimba guy Andy Hernandez aka Coati Mundi did go on to be the core of Kid Creole. And I think some of the ladies as well.
This band is not given it's due. A brilliant concoction of disco, big band, latin and more. The brothers were multi-ethic and they brought the sounds of NYC old and new to this amazing ensemble. The singer Corey Daye did in fact start out working 8th Avenue Bars... which were quite edgy then.
If only to go back in time to see them live. A magic moment.
😮😮😮wow!!!!!!
This is a great album. My favourite track is; I'll play the fool.
Love the whole album. Amazing!!!
I love the entire album especially "Sour And Sweet/Lemon In The Honey".
Love this song.
I remember buying this album Dr Buzzards original Savanna Band way back in the 70s
Haven't heard this one in ages ! .. It was a minor hit over here in Australia, but I saw the video a number of times on our national music show "Countdown" .. This wasn't really my style at the time, but there was definitely something about it that got stuck in your head .. I've never forgotten that catchy "Cherchez La Femme" line in the chorus .. Nice reaction, Harri !
I knew one of the back up singer of that band. She live in the Johnson Projects in Spanish Harlem when she was young. I remember some of the band members too. She lived a quiet life. Away from the hoodlums and drug crowds. I don’t know whatever became of her. One of my friends were good friends with her. I hope she’s doing well.
Unique albums, I reccomend listen to them all, Much sampled in Hip Hop, great albums and Corey Daye the vocalist is unique.
The style used t be called '2 step in the Uk clubs.'.
Did you miss the references to Tommy matola, living in the back of his big Gray Cadillac, blowing his mind on cheap grass and Wine? That was before tommy matola headed sony's music department, and Then founding the tommy matola music group. If I am correct, and my memory serves me right? Tommy mctola was doctor buzzard's original Savannah bands manager. I'm pretty sure he actually discovered doctor buzzards, and put them on. I don't know about other parts of the country or world, But this song was a huge hit in NYC and it's surrounding burrows. Tommy mctoulas estimated net worth is over a half A billion dollars. Not bad for a kid from the bronx!!
I'm so used to listening to the likes of Larry Graham Primus that the bass lines seem quietly subdued in the rear of the band. I love the 40's themed arrangement though.
Still have the album from the 70s a classic 👌 ✨️
Cool reaction to a classic performance. Theme behind the band is show Would music sound of there was non British invasion on America
A big tune in the London rare groove scene.
This hit #1 on billboard disco chart in 1976
Reminds me of "big band" music.
Thank you ❤this one! Back in day going to college! Ms. Cory Daye is the only one I found and interviewed on! 👑
Big hustle record back in the day….
Wow ..can't believe you don't know this
The clip you put up is considerably sped up diminishing the sublime power of this absolute classic.
Hachachachaaaaaaaaaaaaa
*Tips hat*
I never realised the link mister Darnell.
Now that Tommy Motorola guy, is that a coincidence? 😱
Don't forget Coati Mundi on vibes. He and Kid created Kid Creole and the Coconuts.
@@NathanVeenstra That's Tommy Mottola, record executive, producer, Mariah Carey's ex-husband. He helped this band to get their major record label deal.
@@spookym123 I know about Tommy (and Mariah), thanks for confirming.
Very unusual but I am not familiar with it. 💞
Disco? DISCO??!
No. This is Big Band through and through and it is absolute perfection.. I saw Kide Creole and the Coconuts play at Privated in 18980. Neat show.
Like Ghostface version too
😅🎉good days 1:20
Reminds me of Mia Farrow shows in the Arabic region.
Seed a bit to fast but classic song
Want the music alone not the opinion of someone who can’t pronounce the titles 2:50
