Thanks Trey. A unique band that never really fell into any one genre. I guess that’s why they were played on alternative radio in the early to mid 80’s. At least here in the states, as you mentioned they did have some pop success in the U.K. Although different musically ,I think in spirit very similar to the B’52’s. Some other tracks to check out Stool Pigeon, Annie I’m not your Daddy, Male Curiosity. Their live clips are great too, a big band with lots of horns , percussion and of course the Coconuts.
I discovered Kid Creole and the Coconuts about the time of this video. I became a fan. AFAIC, the band catches the baby boomer thing of the time, with a different slant, as Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reeefer Band.
Kid Creole & The Coconuts were one of the best bands of the 80's. August Darnell came up with the character of Kid Creole as being his altar ego. I would probably recommend checking out their song & video My Male Curiousity. It has a tropical latin feel to it & really brings alive the character he formulated. Enjoy 👍
They were, in my opinion, one of the best live bands ever. They put on a real show with great musicians and really engaged with the audience. I saw them a few times in the 80's and 90's and even more recently with Kid Creole introducing the 'new' coconuts as the daughters of the original ones!
Trey, I am watching this now although it was posted three weeks ago. I agree, it is a very colorful video. There is a lot of action and excitement. There is a lot going on. A lot of scene changes. I like the segment in the hot air balloon with the blue sky. Nice bright colors in the video. The song is bright and upbeat and has energy. Your reaction and comments on what this song is about is well said. Yes, it is a fun song like you said. Entertaining video and song Kevin.
