    You gotta love the tenor sax. A lot of songs I’ve gotten in band are kind of basic bass line and all that, but every once in a while, you get the song every tenor saxophonist dreams of… one where you get some baseline, counter-melody, AND melody in. It really is one of the best feelings I’ve experienced.

    Excellent episode of Saologic! I loved the way a jazz tenor differs from the Yamaha Classically styled tenor. David had great hints on keeping the air warm and fast for those low notes. You can tell the difference right away when you applied that to your horn. After about five years away from my alto, it took me a good 3-4 months before my centered focused tone came back, but you started getting it by the end of the episode! Great channel, great content and really informative on how you can make any sax sound Classical or Jazzer!

  • @brianmatthews232
    @brianmatthews232 2 роки тому +1

    Might be wise to place mouthpiece on and off the neck with the neck off of the sax, or carefully hold the neck so as not to apply up or downward force to the neck. Its easy to damage the neck and or socket, known as neck pull-down. My used YTS62 had it when I bought it, and I had to replace the neck socket and refit the neck. Would be expensive if you had to pay for it to be done. if you gently apply force to the neck with it tightened, if it moves vertically you have an issue already. Over-tightening the neck clamp screw to compensate, can lead to it breaking, leaving the thread in the socket. Gotta cherish those lovely saxes. love the videos :-)

    He proctored my jury one semester. I put down that I practiced ~10hrs/week on average. He looks at me and says, “you’ll never be successful if that’s all you practice!” He was also very relieved when I no longer needed him to adjudicate my comp exam, as he had a rather busy schedule and simply didn’t want to spend the extra time doing anything else
    Dude’s hilarious lmao

    Edit: B + high F# is a VERY easy altissimo G (if you have the key), but without it: high F + G# and side Bb is just as easy I'd say. The side Bb raises the pitch, and the G# makes it pop out easier. Have a King Super 20 bari and the altissimo G "B + side Bb" is way easier than the high F fingering (which is basically impossible on it). So I like how he clearly doesn't listen to anything besides classical. ::Plays Somewhere Over the Rainbow:: "What was that?" lmao

    From what I understand, the original Adolphe Sax horns had a narrower bore, and that made them more suitable for classical playing. At least the recordings I've heard on UA-cam suggest that: Trying for an even, super-controlled classical tone on a modern sax sounds to me like trying to drive a 1,000 hp. hot rod on the highway - it's always trying to get away from you, and I can hear the effort. Whereas an Adolphe Sax horn sounds a bit like an Cor Anglais or a bassoon, that kind of playing seems to come naturally to it, and (to continue the analogy), it's like a jeep on dirt roads, or a taxicab on city streets or a sports car on mountain highways - suited to the terrain.
