I'll never forget that video I once saw on tiktok, where a women had her mouthpiece twisted by 180° with her Reed being at the top.... And she acted like she was playing it while the background music was literally a violin. Nothing tops that.
As a sax player, I can say the squeaks are not the problem, the thing is that after you squeak and realize it, you get nervous and start messing up other things
Yes that’s true I don’t love it I think it’s a big band lol but I’m not sure what what color is it lol but I just got a new one lol lol but I don’t think I
I’m in my second year playing the sax and although I fit into all the cringe categories I can say the saxophone has humbled me. You’re gonna squeak you’re gonna sound terrible but it slowly gets less terrible with time.
Is it any worse than all these players trying to imitate what is supposed to be cool? I would rather squeak than sound just like every other 1950s sax player. I only listened to guitar players and don't ever want to sound like every other boring jazz solo sax. It is like having to have a 50 year old dull lacquered horn to be cool. Finding your own sound is called art. If you want to be a paint by number artist be sure to copy. My advice is do not listen to other sax players. And especially to critics that do not play that well.. In the 60s great bebop players were forcing themselves to unlearn all licks and sounds they were supposed to have. I cringe more at listening to this barrage of sound that all sounds the same. The trick is to play like others and then destroy their copycat coolness with original sounds and ideas. This makes them run to the study books that lead to the homogeneous sax sounds that make people hate jazz. Be yourself and quit following the so called teachers that are stuck in the time warp of complementing some player because he sounds just like Coltrane or any other great player of the PAST. And don't forget it was Miles that set in motion the rebirth of scales and rhythms that kept changing and was the antithesis of guys like Marcellus W that live in the past. Squeaks are what gave over time the upper harmonics we drool over now. That being said I need to hear you can play in tune before I listen to your experiments in scale deviations that corrupt and can excite those that understand art is expanded through the need to see and hear new methods. Don't aim to sound like somebody you admire, sound like someone that will be recognized immediately as you and then you are on your way to true greatness in your art. Or not and succumb to the applause good imitation.
Ugh. 04:16. Working on my piano performance degree, there was *always* a sax nightmare in the practice room next to me, spewing out random free jazz for hours at a time 🥶 any time of day, any day of the week, it's like a lunatic talking in your ear
This made my day. I have been self-critical to the extreme lately and this reminded me of where I'm no longer at in my playing. Time to go practice. Thanks guys!
For a solo I did at the level before state in highschool, I got so nervous...to keep things short, I started breathlessly sobbing while playing in front of the judges and some peers. It sounded atrocious 😂
I remember finding a video of (I think) a wwbw sales guy demoing selmer mouthpieces, and he clearly wasn’t a saxophonist. I think they’ve since taken the video down, but I still think about it to this day.
So a bending of the 3rd among other notes 😂that makes the blues is wrong. Get a new teacher. This is why you should listen to guitar players as it is the alteration of the intonation that requires the ear and the technique which makes you and your audience feel the emotion. Ask a guitar player to some blues with and without bending notes down or up depending on feel and witness this. Those that teach usually can't play the blues well. This what's Miles Davis' first test at an audition for players in his bands; if they could not play gut bucket simple blues, they did not get the gig.
Now I sort of wish there was video from my sophomore year, when my neckstrap broke in the middle of a parade and a bass drummer stepped on my horn before I could get it off the ground.
I have a theory, at 10:48 in the video we hear the bad church sax. I think that the saxophonist might have practiced on an alto sax or another E♭sax and didn't think about the transposition between E♭and B♭.

I need to see this.
Please send link bro😂
@@inspir.edmusic me too lol
I can't find it.... I saw it a few months ago, when I just randomly typed saxophone into the searching bar
We actually reviewed that one! But I figured everyone already saw it haha
As a sax player, I can say the squeaks are not the problem, the thing is that after you squeak and realize it, you get nervous and start messing up other things
True, very true
When you squeak, hold it out and make a face like you're playing some really high altissimo note.
yes yes yes!

Lol great comment. :)

I feel that, been playing about 5 years and while I've come a long way there's still things I'd like to improve on
@@weeaboocentral4921 I've been playing for 20 years... It doesn't get much better.

I like Josh and Alonzo. Put them in more videos.

I like you too Fred Tyu
Phew, I’m relieved that none of my sax clips were shown in this video xd
"Cringe is my home"
Me too, me too.

listen at 0:04 with your eyes closed and just sit back and enjoy the sounds
I love how josh is quieter and Alonso is louder! It brings a great dynamic
Had a teacher whose hands are beastly. He plays keys and some other stuff of course. I think it's an older musician thing
Hey to be fair that squeak was in front of like 6 college professors. I think that adds cringe points smh.
Been there
Was a terrible camera angle. Hahahha
Wow funny seeing you here nick
Man, that squeak hurt my soul, and gave my flashbacks. OUCH. He was jammin though
Hey Nick
For a solo I did at the level before state in highschool, I got so nervous...to keep things short, I started breathlessly sobbing while playing in front of the judges and some peers. It sounded atrocious 😂
The person that played Donna Lee has like 100 videos of him playing it exactly like that on his channel
Lmfao I love it
Funnily enough, the French astronaut who played the sax also played the French national anthem after last year's Olympics, and sounded respectable!
17:51 when you practice a 16th note lick after eating taco bell
9:50 : Junior high kids when they think they're good...💀💀
Well everyone has to go though this phase at some point😂
At least hes that confident😂 respect
Here’s how it goes with scoring:
1st scorer - high/low
2nd scorer - opposite of first
3rd scorer - middle of first and second
I had a good laugh, but also an unexpected confidence boost in my saxophone skills, from this video. Great stuff!
I love the collective reaction at 5:41😂
I used to hear this busker downtown all the time. The only tune he played was Summertime but he never played the last 4 bars.it drove me nuts!
how did that kid not notice that there is an alien growing in his mouthpiece
I'm late to this party but the 3 of you reacting is beautiful...especially to Shrek's mouthpiece and the last player. More, please.
The guy on the right is hilarious! I would love to see him in more videos
All my sax pain in one video
2:58 gave me incredible pain 😞😞
But you’re doing the world a favor so hats off to that
10:53 it's either a really good thing or a really bad thing when your bandmate looks at you like that jfc
Alonso is friggin HILARIOUS 😂😂😂 love that guy!

The least that the guitar accompanist on "Lily Was Here" could've done is detuned to make Miss Slovakia sound better! ;>) Great video!
The last one was the stuff of nightmares - it reminds me of the sax solo on "My Lovely Horse" by Father Ted.
🤣The way they all look up at 5:41 does it for me!
9:27 should be a official demonstration to newbies on why to wet the reed before playing
It's not that hard to put the reed in your mouth while you put your sax together and get your stuff set up ...
7:00 glad we have confirmation you've just always been this way. cringe yet free. i envy it
I literally had to use my hand to cover up my screen when you showed that mouthpiece. Unbelievable.
I know same. I couldn't look at it
I've seen one like that in person 🥲
Josh and Alonso, seem like cool guys.. I'd like to hear them play. Love your vids, kid. Keep em comin.
The fact that at least one of these people has a framed photo of Luigi gives me hope
That video of you as a child was thee most derpiest, most precious thing 🤣🍪
What is that guy in black doing , he isn’t sayin a word 😆 .
Thanks for this funny video guys.
4:14 I’ve got a friend that literally plays like this
We all need that friend
I just want to go back to 7:55 and mention that he was properly using the bebop scale. That’s a big win for a high school freshman.

“New from the saxologic shop: the prophyligature”
7:55… High school freshman??? Killin! Pretty sophisticated lines. Good sense of time and connecting his ideas across the changes.
This video is a composite of all the saxophonists who talk trash on the Facebook “Saxophonists” page.
That page exists?
It does. On Facebook

Holy fuck dude you gotta keep Alonso! Dude is hilarious!
9:57 my ears got violated
Not the Creston on a jazz set up 🤣🤡
Mistakes were made 😔
I have a theory, at 10:48 in the video we hear the bad church sax. I think that the saxophonist might have practiced on an alto sax or another E♭sax and didn't think about the transposition between E♭and B♭.
What led to this conclusion
the dude playing donna lee super fast is just impressive
Alonso has such a great personality
Yes bring the guys back. Funny stuff!
My theory is that girl didn't know alto is in Eb and played the "same" notes as the guitar lol
Took my mouthpiece out of my case and started to frantically clean it after whatever the heck I just saw
I love your Luigi painting
The first one reminded me of when i got my first sax and had acted like i was a pro pressing on random keys
that high school sax solo was so killin
I ALMOST sent my first ever scale attempts but I feel like that’s too much cringe
dude should've broken out careless whisper in the church lol.
Because the first one was purposeful it was fire. Like something you'd hear in a Shorter head. Or Mingus. Or maybe Henderson
Bro when saxologic played his neck as a kid 😂
5:40 was a lovely moment
My middle school band played into the clouds for a 7th grade performance.
I played into the clouds for my 8th grade band last year and hearing it again like that is a big oof

C'mon! That version of My Way. The best!!
That mouthpiece will make me vomit💀💀
