The 9% reduction in Cd affects 80% of the losses at highway speeds in a pro-rata fashion, so 9% range enhancement at 60mph. 5% improvement for mixed speed use seems utterly consistent.
Physical changes might be very subtle for such Cd reduction. The hood to windshield transition is much better, for instance. A lot can happen under the car too.
I think folks have a very simple mental model of wind resistance and how it and its consequences are manifested and managed. This is why Aptera have no stylists, only physicists with powerful fluid-dynamics software. Getting rid of those wing mirrors will be a huge step forward, once standards permit.
Exactly right. Also, if the battery is lighter, or some body weight savings, that would also contribute to the improvement in start/stop driving, much less on the highway. Edit, watched the whole video, if this model uses gigacasting and the older models don’t then that’s likely easily a weight savings, it’s one of the stated benefits to going to gigacasting. The other benefits were fewer parts needing to be assembled as well as rigidity improvements, which would also help with NVH performance. And also it suggests this is a reason the trunk gained volume too.
agree, just add bumper, hood, less weight, wheels can just adds up to save few miles/km for sure
@@sjsomething4936 from different news, they did not use gigacasting which is strange!
@@sjsomething4936 Weight is less important on an electric car. Wheels and air are the only resistance on a flat road. Extra energy used due to weight on uphills is generated back on downhills because a heavy car generates more energy back to the battery. Same with braking. But the downside is that the acceleration becomes slower.
I understand the changes are quite an improvement for aerodynamics, going from 0.23 -> 0.219.
I cannot find with the Ioniq 6 for example, US mirrors vs European mirrorless, assuming the 0.20 coefficient is without. Curious how much it saves.
10:50 The removal of steering stalk is actually a big deal in terms of response time. I tried this on model x/s and there is a noticeable difference in response time compared to a traditional steering stalk. Theres like a 3 sec delay because you have to press and hold the capacitive button its not instantaneous. Also the orientation of the left and right is atleast to me is counter intuitive and i found myself looking down more to make sure i press the correct one to go left or right.
New model 3 button feels different from model s/x. Matt from carwow just stated that.
@@arthurchoi8080Matt has to say something good to keep good relations to tesla guys. Comparing 2019 model (noisier than 2021 up) to the new highland one is also one of ways to make the new one look better.
@@TheAShkins not really, Tesla doesent "bribe" as the other automakers do. So the reviewers do roast Tesla for it's weaknesses.
@@OlavAlexanderMjelde should I believe that you know what all the tesla guys do in all the countries?
@TheAShkins the tesla guys? Lol.. you know legacy auto has been known to use 50-60.000 USD to fly people to exotic places, give their family cars, give cars to politicians etc. It's kind of corruption, as they get some valuable stuff for free or can use it for free. So they want to keep it. Tesla doesn't do this.
Range increase is actually 8% when fitted with 18” aero wheels. The 5% range increase is when fitted with the 19” sport wheels. I calculated with the range numbers available in EU.
then what if you put 15 inch wheels?
Just over 12%, actually, 76km increase over 602 WLTP. Very pleased, will be ordering one in Australia if Model Y isn’t upgraded in time (not sure if I need the size of the Y)

Another very informative video btw.
Sam, you don't own a Tesla and have not driven without stalks. There are a lot of oweners who hate not having stalks. So on a typical drive how many time do you use a blinker....well some people may use it every few minutes...especially in a city So if they are in there 50's then for the last 35 years it has been embedded in their brain to use stalks. Now to save 50 or $100 Tesla THINKS it's better to not have stalks when a ton of people who have Tesla's without stalks do not like it and want stalks? Dumb move for Tesla.
Dumb move for sure
a stalkless indicator you’ve never used changed your mind for another car?
it sounds dangerous to get in a situation where you need to use signals suddenly
@@cory_aquaexactly. I hate it. Tried the new model S and it sucks not being able to shift gears and use indicators on stalks.
According to the website the Max charge rate for the SR is 170 KW and the LR is 250 kW. However both SR and LR claim to add 282 km in 15 minutes. It's going to take a day or 2 for the actual specs to be published correctly.
The RWD car is more efficient than the LR car. It is possible that they add the same range in 15 minutes even though they have different charging speeds. Tesla could have designed the charging curve so that they both add the same amount of range in 15 minutes.
@@LearningFastThe SR uses LFP batteries which might be charged more aggressively. You might be correct in your educated guess.
It's possible the SR and LR have different types of CATL pack to their batteries. Could explain the faster charging of LR but that could also be the larger packing taking more current due to its size... Probably easier to manufacture if they use the same battery type.
@@KeithWW Tesla has already stated that there are no changes to the motors or batteries right now.
I think the extra ranges from the weight and aerodynamics
Sam buttons on the steering wheel for turn signals, have you heard of roundabouts 🤣
I keep seeing comments about signaling in roundabouts.....I don't signal in roundabouts.....what country requires you to do that?

I’m driving with the new steering wheel for half a year. It’s bad .. believe me it is bad! Try to use your indicator when taking a roundabout .. no horn in the center of the steer. So dear Sam, please watch out giving an assessment when you didn’t experience te reality of driving with it. New Model 3 looks fantastic - the choice of the buttons on the steering wheel is a mistake.
I’ve been driving with it for almost 10 months and I think it’s great, really great. Much better
The horn is in the center of the steering wheel on the updated model three
Is it the vertical button separation for the directions that makes it tricky?
@@peterj5401 if you have normal cognitive function and learning ability it’s not tricky at all. You will learn in a week or two. It’s like all new things. For most people it’s a bit tricky the first time you drive a EV and the first time with one pedal drive and only having I screen in a Model 3. But you learn fast. It’s exactly the same with this.
Compare it to one pedal drive and then it’s much easier to learn for most people.
@@gustavgyll3291 Alright! Then it’s a non-issue for me I guess, thanks 😊
I wish they made the rear boot lid an actual hatch. So you don't need to upgrade to model Y if you need a bigger opening
That would cannibalize into Model Y sale. Maybe "model 2"will be a hatchback to further distined itself from the lineup since it won't have interior ambient light or backseat screen, etc.
It’s a refresh, not a complete redesign. It was never going to get a hatch.
@@FutureSystem738
They just don't get it, do they?
Thanks Sam. GREAT summary. So many people whinging about lack of stalks- people who have not seen it, have not experienced it, and have no idea. I’d go for it in a heartbeat- and yet I’m a boomer. I think it looks great, but will stick with my four year old M3P for now, which is STILL absolutely fabulous.

Bjorn Nyland will be testing the Model 3 in around 6-8 weeks so all questions will be answered soon,I think we’re in for a treat that’s for sure 👍😉💪
Carwow will be testing it tomorrow !
@@curioussand1339För how many weeks? With trailer too?
@@curioussand1339 and doing a constant speed and distance comparison?
Exactly Bjorn will test the new model 3 like no other reviewer carrying out perhaps 1500-2000km,I’ve never seen another man that tests EVs like he does.
Carwow tests is just like the rest. Tesla Björn tests are real world test. His 1000km test brings out any flaw of a car. He proved several times that BYD can't eaven charge their own batteries without heat gating.
The range is said to be 554 km with 18" wheels for the standard range model according to Tesla's Danish website.
Missing the stalk for turning indicators is a big deal, at least in countries that have a lot of roundabouts like Denmark and other Northeuropean countries. When you drive straight it's not a problem, but try to reach the right button when you have to get out in the second or third road in the roundabout. Then the button will be on the other side and upside down on a moving steering wheel. Good luck with that. Many will probably stop using the indicator light in this situation. Not good for safety. This is the only problem I see with the update.
No problem with the other stalk missing though.
A bit disappointed that they didn't include a small driver screen or headup display, but you can probably soon buy such an android aftermarket screen, as you can for the old model. I would rather buy this one now than the model Y, until it gets its update.
Good point about roundabouts. I get why people don't like not having physical buttons for things, and stalks. They work so well.
Missing stalks is a dealbreaker because of roundabouts. Surprised it’s even allowed in the EU.
It’s just something new to get used to that’s all. After a while you won’t think anything of it. Not sure why you mentioned changing gears while going around a round about there are no gears in an electric car so not an issues. Keeps your hands on the wheel so that is a safety thing!
@@srenbanghansen8746 I live in Thailand and the folks here don't know how to use a roundabout. Using turn signals is just not standard practice. Right of way is generally determined by size as pickup trucks or wealth if it's a premium luxury car. Roundabouts are pretty much chaos with turn signals not part of the standard practice of "playing chicken".
@@alastairhatt360 he said roads not gears meaning changing lanes when going through multiple roundabouts. When you are constantly steering your wheel rotates and buttons go all over the place. Not good when you have to indicate the upcoming lane change or departure from a roundabout. That's why they have stalks as they are always in place.
Rolling resistance improvements on the tires alone might be good for a good part of the range improvements.
@@harmony3138 Yes, surely Tesla would not misdirect to stay out in front of the competition. Elon has never been known to even stretch the truth. We bask in the light of your wisdom!
Nope.
@@harry-eto"Good part" of range improvement means like 2-3%. Rolling resistance cold not make a 2 or 3% improvement? Total improvement is 5-8% depending on the model...
Yes even aero can be significantly improved with little visual impact in some cases. Still, it is Tesla, they are sneaky eg not ever officially disclosing battery capacity/type, making the battery smaller would be a good move, and this refresh is a major change in the manufacturing process of the car. He could be right I think.
I agree, tires make a big difference. I went from Michelin Energy AS to their Cross Climate 2s and lost almost 10% of my range.
No indicator stalks no sale to me. I was going to buy 100% the refresh and this changed my mind. You can keep the car Tesla.
The NEW Model 3 looks like a much improved BEV, from an already great car. I'm sure some will sell their current models and upgrade, and why not. Cheers Viking! :)
I love the new Tesla Model 3 and very temped to trade up. They are now on sale in NZ too with a delivery estimate of Jan-Mar 2024. Very exciting. I really enjoy your videos so keep up the great work. All the best to your wife.
As far as i got it the increase in range is much bigger. WLTP for the old Model 3 SR was 491km, but that was calculated with the standard tyres. The 513km of the new Model 3 SR are calculated with the 19'' wheels, while the standard 18'' wheels are specified with 554km (678km for the LR version).
this (especially the sound system and isolation) really makes my planned combo of my legacy Mercedes S-class with the Cybertruck combination (high on the waiting list) into a possible Tesla 3 Cybertruck combo, or even a Tesla X (-20%) Cybertruck Combo. The new 3 gives the S a run for its money, amazing. Bucket list territory.
Tesla has said they didn't change the drive motors or battery. They're known to make incremental changes all the time. The suspension is already upgraded in the non updated 23 Model 3s. I doubt they will update the drive train until they've finished rolling out the new body style, which is a major project taking up lots of focus
No indicator storks my be a problem for countries who have roundabouts for junctions. Not sure how easy it will be indicate when approaching your exit if the wheel is upside down or at a random angle depending on the tightness of the bend….
My _existing_ Tesla has, as you say, two buttons on its steering wheel (the "press in" action of each scrollwheel). Usually, the left-hand one turns the currently-selected audio source on & off, while the right-hand one either calls the voice-command function to attention or starts a text-to-speech readout of a just-received text message. When I've wanted to do either of these things in the middle of a turn, I've pushed the wrong button more often than not, even though I'm well aware of the issue. So please don't tell me that there's no valid reason for preferring an immobile stalk, especially when it controls which direction the car will change lanes to.
Stalkless is definitely a downgrade. Unpractical and unsafe, especially with regards to the turn signals. Very difficult to use in roundabouts!
Will AC charging upgrade to 22kW, a popular European cutbside / destination charger level? The previous only allowed for 11kW @ destination chargers. Seems to me that much more charging is done through cheaper (!) AC chargers - so quite relevant (in urban areas like much of Europe).
I like the 2023 better, keep the cheap LED interior lights. I like my stalk, actual temperature sensor and wood panel interior. 😊
Hopefully, the wood type panel is one of the available free options. Hopefully, turn signals are available as a voice command option. Hopefully, saving power with LED lights won't always be a priority as the batteries get better.
I like real wood, plastic looking like wood is as bad as eating vegan steak!
@@GermanGuy007 It's walnut wood and I'm sorry you have to eat vegan steak.
the LED is cheap and gimmicky. This is something 16 yo racer boys would want. I was thinking of upgrading my current Y to Juniper, but now i will go with the X instead
Love it I'm loving my model 3 purchased 3 weeks ago so grateful
Damm sexy update I say, I love that they looked at what people modded their cars with and added them as standard... And you know the after market folk will make indicator stalks..
You simply can’t cater for every single person’s needs. I have a Model 3 and it’s most certainly the best car I’ve ever owned, by far - truly amazing, & suits my needs.
I wouldn't be so dismissive about the effects of drag at speed. It's perfectly possible that the differences they've made have made a significant improvement to the range.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet or not but (at least on the Australian store) both standard and long range are actually showing the 18" as standard and the 19" as extra now
I just ordered a "refreshed" 3 and optioned the 18" wheels...19" are NOT standard!
but that's nonsense: at least in the german configurator, it shows 170kW for the SR and only for the LR 250kW. which is exactly how it was for the old model.
Not a Tesla fan but the improvements are impressive, especially the range. Indicators on the steering wheel are a disaster, UK roads have a lot of bends and roundabouts and the last thing you need is trying to find the indicator button on a steering wheel that is upside down
Are your roundabouts U-turns? 😄
@@Botoburstonto something here. I have been hoping they would let the user customise indicator stalk for left or right hand use on the stalks. Finding button positions while turning the wheel… bad. A basic safety feature… letting the outside world know your direction intentions should not be messed with… this will be interesting to see play out.
I misunderstood the change.. it could work ! I was thinking it was L upper and R lower on one side… this makes much more sense.. I reckon I could learn that one.. and finally good riddance to left or right stalks.
Traditional Tesla, from one point of view ground breaking EV technology and then some idiotic product management decisions and cost saving stuff
a 5% incease in range is not impressive, I want something in the 400s
Thanks so much Sam.....Doing a great job
My pleasure!
Hi Sam, thas for your interesting opinion about battery. I haven't seen in other contents.
What about new HW 4 and best resolution cameras to improve FSD?
And added cameras to improve Vision?
Here is my take on it. Ive just test driven the car.
Exterior:
The car looks much better close up and the rear lights are sexy. The front light is not my cup of tea, I liked the older ones much more but maybe it will grow on me in the future.
Interior:
Interior is massivly upgraded, seats are much more comftable, sharper screen resolution, overall nice design. The A/C is better but not massively. The design and material use makes it look much more refreshing and luxurious.
The 8 inch screen sits too low for my liking, didnt test or ask if it could be removed to a higher position.
The sound system is noticably better even though the old one is pretty good too.
The sound insolation in the car is a little better on a stand still and low speeds but at higher speeds I couldnt hear any difference if some it was very slight.
Ride quality (suspension) was just a level better but still doesnt feel close to premium like a Merc og BMW.
No difference in performance or handling. The tesla employee we spoke to told us that the reason for the drop in top speed was due to the new tires that were made to reduce road noice.
do you really like the interior? It looks a bit cheap to me
@@weho_brian compared to a merc and bmw, yes it does feel cheap but then again its not in a bmw or merc price range.
Compared to the old model 3 I think it feels more premium in terms of material use and the overall feel. Its subjective though. My impresssion might not be the same as yours
In malaysia we get it in Q4 for deliveries. I'm considering asking them to delay my collection till jan 2024 cause it heavily affects the RV but what I really care is the front bumper camera and hw4/3.5
You might have missed that the range of the Dual Engine version in the EU Tesla configurator is 678 km if using the 18 inch wheels - but that is a bit hidden with some smaller text right below the wheel type selection section.
Brilliant analysis
In this video, I heard you say many times that “you recommend”. I frequently disagree with your positions, so it seems like the time is right for you to disclose your credentials. Is there a video where you give a background on yourself? I agree that you have done a lot of self-education since you started this channel. How about providing your background?
In terms of improving range on this new model. The primary options are:
1. Use less energy for the movements required from the vehicle. I.e., better efficiency.
2. Bring more energy with you. I.e., larger useable battery capacity.
The first option can be achieved by:
a) Weight (mass) reduction including batteries with higher energy density.
b) Aerodynamic drag reduction
c) Electrical loss reductions:
a. motor and inverter efficiency
b. efficiency improvements to electrical accessories (e.g. heat pump, wiper motor, window lifts, etc.)
d) Frictional loss reductions:
a. Low rolling resistance tires
b. Drive train components
In the US there are two different batteries depending on base vs long range and performance. I wonder if the new one will be the same battery "type" for all models?
I think it's a good refresh. Front looks less fish like. Ventilated seats are a big plus in hot climates. Would be nice if it has a new battery chemistry but I doubt it.
Battery chemistry, and form factor under the skin changes will be ongoing.
ElectricViking always delivers the goods. Thanks man.
If the battery chemistry has been changed and offers better cold weather charging I would think they would be promoting that fact. It’s a significant improvement for potential buyers who live in cold climates and would definitely be a differentiator for many such buyers.
If they changed batteries, I am pretty sure they would promote it after they unload all the older models.
Good insight into the differences. One correction though, the Long Range doesn’t come standard with 19” wheels, they’re both the same. They come standard with the 18” wheels and the 19” are a paid upgrade on both the RWD and LR
Agreed. That’s what the Australian website is saying. 19” wheels extra for both LR an SR. Personally, I like the bigger wheels, and comfort, noise and extra up front and replacement costs will be ignored by me. Form will win over function.
@@Chozzer Yeah I’ve already ordered the new Long Range model so can definitely confirm that the 19” wheels are a paid upgrade. I’ve gone for 18” as I’m not keen on the white/silver alloys on the 19’s. Prefer them dark
Able to order in New Zealand from today for delivery January - March 2024. Both models eligible for the clean car rebate. Hope you are correct that they will move the indicator buttons to the right side of the steering wheel for right hand drive vehicles. Stupid to have them on the same side as the touch screen.
Maybe the new hairpin motors are being used and they are slightly more efficient…
It is a big facelift/refresh. Not so much from the outside, but especially the cabin has gotten a huge overhaul
Was your 0-60 time for standard range single motor? I think dual motor is already low 4s or high 3s?
The drag coefficient went down not just from the bumper but from the hood too which changed and could have responsible for the increase range. Also wheels play a role. In fact people have tested wheel covers that increase range of couple tens of miles/km. Weight loss also could increase range. So is possible that has nothing to do with batteries.
Weight seems to increase.
@@nas4apps a lot?
It doesn't event matter where the drag coefficient went down, the important thing is how much it decreased......and the value of 0.01 does not seem enough to increase the autonomy by 8%, something is strange
@@Stefan-9wd depends, here is what tesla says "Reducing drag can improve the range and efficiency of EVs by lowering the amount of energy needed to overcome the air resistance. It's officially the LFP for the standard range and NMC for the long range, according to the French "Automobile propre" who were able to access the new car in a hangar. (on youtube UmVvZ9R046k) They are specialized in EVs. Which LFP or which NMC is not specified. The short range is also are heavier (+9 kg) than before, the LR lighter (-6kg). The pack sizes where not quoted with precision (around 60kWh and 80 kWh according to them).
They don't agree with the fast changing; they say 170kW for the standard and 250kW for the long range.
The Performance model is not available to order any more in France.
there are several reports indicate that the battery chemistry has remained the same and the increase in range is from all the incremental improvements in efficiency.
Awesome refresh of Highland, great looks, as well as features, and TSLA is down $15...tradition.
Standard range RWD Highland model does NOT have 250 KW charging. Tesla’s website explicitly says it is the exact same 170 KW charging for the RWD model as before. Sam is wrong here. Please do not listen to what he is saying in this video about the battery. It just isn’t true at all.
It’s because it’s the exact same batteries as before. He just won’t except it…
You are correct Sam is wrong on that one.
Tesla AU website with the new refresh quotes 170kw max for the standard/RWD model. Where did you see this 250kw from?
Hello and thanks for the video.
With 18'' wheels, the autonomy is 554 km (WLTP) for the RWD and 678 km (WLTP) for the Long Range.
Europe deliveries are from october, according to testers, the actual motors + batterypacks are exactly the same at present
Using these indicator buttons could be a problem with roundabouts when needing to indicate coming off the roundabout while still turning the wheel. It would have been better to have the left indicator on left hand side and right indicator on right hand side. IMO
They will be very difficult to use in roundabouts. I can't stand them in the new model S.
Teslabjorn had the same problem even after two months, which he explains very well here: ua-cam.com/video/4UOCsbB-KXg/v-deo.htmlsi=mrY2Pf0GKEskKAo7&t=180
After the shutdown for retooling, would the factories resume making the old model, or switch to the new model? I would have thought the latter? They've changed design in a Model 3 for estimated delivery mid September, according to an acknowledgement required by the app, but who knows. Maybe someone else does.
Thanks for being honest

Some others, i wait for the end of video and nothing 😂
The people who actually got talking points from Tesla have said no changes to battery or drivetrain.
It looks so much better and more cohesive than the pre-facelift. I'm just really not too sure about the lack of indicators lever from the column. This is from a main motorcycle commuter where switch button indicators is a norm.
It’ll be fine. A friend with a new Model S was uncertain, but loves it now.
Sound is not only the number or quality of the speaker, it's also now the IA treatment the sound receive (actually it's even more that), and I guess the lower is standard, maybe just raw. .
I hope this model 3 will be quieter because the old one text drove was very loud inside.
Why I test drove one at Electrify Expo, the Tesla rep insisted on leaving the stereo on. Even so, it was clearly louder going over bumps compared to other EV's I drove that day. I am sure they are aware of the issue, so they likely took measures to mitigate it.
That’s Matt Watson from Carwow bending down filming the front of the grey Model 3 at 2:19. 😂
They specifically said in all the reviews I watched that the battery chemistry and size was not changed.
Will order when they improve cold weather range.
NZ has only one model 3 Long Range left in Tesla Stock, we haven’t been able to order long range for years. The last one in Stick is Red with white interior and 19” wheels, was $95,088 now discounted to $79,888 and if you order a new long range because finally we can order long range again, the new model is $85,088 for the same options, Red with White Interior and 19” wheels
We can also select 18” wheels on long range in NZ
Ay last an explanation regarding the stalks! I think this is brilliant for left hand drive markets, so much better than my Skoda. The best part is no part indeed.
Hmm agree on the issue but not the solution… going to be awkward finding button positions.. good example sharp rh turn followed by sharp lh turn. I would have preferred user customised stalk position for LHS and RHS use to map existing turn memory on what ever car you already are used to. Regardless of lh or RHS drive indicator stalks are at the whim of manufacturers on which side they are on
Sucks that the long range doesn't qualify for incentives 😢 10k more is alright, but 15 is much harder to justify
I have been watching your videos, and i suggest you to stay with the facts, it's much better than add specculation that have little to no evidence to back up.
Unless Tesla is lying, the added range is perfectly explainable by the better aerodynamics (lower air resistance) plus the new tires. I think unbased speculation turns out to be bad for your channel if ends up wrong. I like your channel, but credibility and consistency is maybe the most important aspect of an youtube channel. Thanks for your work.
he is very bias when the matter is Tesla he doesn't care about facts. he thinks tesla is using 800v tech kkkkk. he lied about the battery tech and range. there's no way this is getting 370 miles. 350 is being very optimistic
@@tonypaca3015 Im not saying he is biased, maybe because my mother language is not english, unbased, would be without a base, more like unsubstanciated, needs better factual analysis.

Quite the oposite of this guy.
@@MarceloTezza well if you don’t know now you know. He always makes very strange and unverified claims in favor of tesla. If this is not bias then I don’t know what it is
Fully charged said the battery chemistry is the same... So...
Two items that are bad gear selector on the screen and when the rear boot open the lights move with the lid that is a safety issue as no hazard lights or normal rear lights are there for other drivers to see if on the open road
I agree with you, I'm waiting from the official announcement from tesla to hear what other updates theyve made
A UK reviewer driving the car, stated battery was unchanged.
So now with the wiper controls on the steering wheel, will we be able to actually change the wiper speed without hunting for the tiny icons on the screen?
Will it still take the optional speedo(s) that install ahead of driver? Far safer to look at speedo ahead, instead of glancing sideways all the time.
Sorry may have been asked, can you fit 18” wheels on the New Tesla Model 3 Long Range? Which has 19” standard.
Haha "left or right depending on which country you're in." Does left become right in some countries? I know you knew you didn't quite get that right as soon as you said it Sam but it was kinda funny. A pity the car doesn't have a driver's digital dash or a HUD. That is a huge shortcoming for me. Looking to the centre all the time is a pain when driving.
Saw this first elsewhere. Suggestion was that UK will have to wait till next year and orders for UE now. Also the drive train had not changed, or that was my interpretation of the presentation. It was thought similarities with the AM Vantage. 17 speakers vis 13. Range increase was through efficiencies but check Tesla annual report from March which outlines what batteries will be used for each model. Surely it will align with that. All of the other info discussed here was presented elsewhere expect boot space and steering wheel. It’s a refresh. Still too big for me and too expensive for my pocket. Pity about the wood going, but perhaps you can order wood as a dash options.
will the tail lamps be visible when the boot is in the open position? There is a safety issue if the taillights can't be seen when the boot is open.
I was told it’s only a refresh not a new model yet , it looks good nice little upgrades.
M3 to M3 so not a new model.
Mexico is the mother of the new model.
If the new Model 3 is using Gigacasting, the weight reduction that comes with that could be where some of the additional range comes from. The aerodynamic improvements also help.
I suspect weights not changed much, or the 0-60 would have changed. Likely the weight saving from gigacasting is offset by the extra sound proofing measures they have taken
If part of the "upgrade" included a station wagon (estate) model 3 variant I'd be over the moon happy. I test drove the model Y before buying the 3 and I just didn't like the proportions. Plus I'm just a diehard wagon guy. Unfortunately the market is diehard SUV lovers. Sigh,,,,,can't have everything. 😊
I also like station wagons more for their practicality and sometimes they even look better like the Nio ET5 Sportstourer look better than the sedan, and it is so much more practical. Just a shame that it is so expensive in Europe.
The biggest advantage for all wheel drive, is for snowy weather.
Still loses too much mileage in very cold weather. Plus it takes longer to charge. They need to solve this problem.
@@Beatles4Sale.Try preconditioning the battery while it's plugged in, thus heating up the battery prior to leaving on a trip in cold weather. It helps.
Range boost from 491 to 513 km is within the ability of the new slip coefficienty. I suspect the M3p arent yet, if at all installed which in itself wont be game changing as id prefer the out going LFP.
Im holding off till march april just to wait and see.
The official story for the improved range is better drag coefficient. Good point on the charging though...don't know if they need the newer chemistry to get 250kw.
The crisper lines makes it much more visually attractive.
Drag is only 2.6% better.
8% energy savings were mentioned in some videos.
Rest can come from better rolling resistance as tires are new.
I have finally seen an electric automobile that I would seriously consider buying--or even a brace of them: the Citroen Olli. It is a concept car, but many of its innovations are rumored to be incorporated into the next generation Citroen C-3. None of its competitors even begin to tempt me to replace our 2012 Toyota Camry hybrid, or our Honda Fit.
Aerodynamic can make a big difference. Remove the mirrors he says that would add about 10 miles range.
What about sound deadening material in the doors and under the floor? Much road noise comes from the chassis and the wheels.
Slight changes in drag coefficient make a major difference at high speed.
Yes AERODYNAMICS improvements can absolutely move the efficiency needle by 5%
in europe, delivery of the new model 3 variants will start in october 2023. so how could they be fitted with the new catl batteries, if the latter only come out by january 2024?
Envious that you get to order Highland M3 now in Australia, I can't wait to order ours when available in US.
Love this new car!
I just winder why they don’t make a stationwagon… it would be a blast on the sales. For families who like to travel and tour within a car would be awesome!
Does the model Y not work for you? Just asking what your thoughts are.
Station wagons are so 1990's and not needed anymore
The new tyres are supposed to have better rolling efficiency, and that combined with the better drag coefficient would easily explain the small improvement in range.
Rob from Tesla Daily looked at the 3d exploded view of this update and could see no gigacasting being used for the rear of the car. But perhaps that image wasn’t up-to date.
The coloured LED interior strip light is infinitely adjustable to any colour from the display panel.
But I agree, I’d be surprised if this update doesn’t get a battery pack change.. though it may be in a yr or so..
Not sure if anyone noticed but top speed of rwd has been reduced this could mean slightly less power and a larger gear reduction to keep same acceleration also i figure price would not be reduced to keep it a premium option over the model 2 when it comes out which is also better for resale value for us who missed out on the government incentive in Australia
I'm counting on a US January delivery. I hate to order and get forced to take delivery in December.
What Tesla needs is Chrome steel beauty rings that protect the edge of the wheel where it meets the bead of the tire. This allows the beauty ring to take the curb abuse, and be easily replaced if it becomes significantly damaged. Think of the old 1970’s American factory wheels. They often had a durable, stainless steel beauty ring. The sidewalls were taller on older cars and that allowed the rubber sidewall to meet the curbs, not the metal of the wheel or Beauty Ring.
You are probably right. Unfortunately, they are very much the opposite of transparent. But this new car is very intriguing, i am cross shopping currently with Lexus ES300h
