I saw a Cybertruck in an uncrowded, no ropes showroom. I totally flipped out. If you played with trucks as a kid, and enjoy sci fi this is your vehicle. I walked away thinking, I can actually buy this? Jeannine
The fact that the Cybertruck is the #4 selling EV in America in May says a lot about the American EV market. It's the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 then everything else.
As antidotal observation, Tesla Model Y’s and 3s rules the roads in the Bay Area however when you get closer to agriculture regions such as Wine regions where you have a blend of Ford EVs and others the Cybertruck is popping up everywhere
Cybertruck has a lot of features that I wished for 50 years ago, The stainless steel body and secure, weatherproof tray area are two of these. The ability to run a fridge and stove on electricity are brilliant. A great hunters. vehicle. The meat gets home fresh.

They need to make a smaller version. Not just a cheaper one, but smaller. Easier to park at the grocery store for those that need more than just a weekend truck.

The CyberTruck is shorter in both length and height than a 2024 midsized Toyota Tacoma double cab with a 6 foot bed.
The CT is a bit wider and a lot heavier than the Tacoma.
How big is your solar array? You said it just powers you house? Did you only get a 10kw inverter system?
I'm in a remote hamlet in northern alberta Canada.drive a 5500ram. Cyber trk is awesome. Just cuz it's 3 times as fast as your 30k in upgrades diesel dosent mean u got hate it

My 2008 Toyota Tacoma had rust on the frame at the dealership when I bought it new in 2008. I took it home and used a metal brush to scrape off the rust, then I re painted, and waxed the frame. In recent years the Tacoma has been recalled for rusty frames, but my frame is still rust free due to my preventive maintance. When I bought the Tacoma I climbed under 3 on the dealership lot, and they all had rust. I will get my Cyberbeast in Sept-Nov. I am looking forward to it, as it will be my first new truck since 2008. I am looking forward to the Giga Cast Aluminum frame that I know will not rust.
Keep an eye on it, just the same. Aluminium doesn't rust, but it does corrode. Filiform corrosion, microbial corrosion and crevice corrosion are all an issue with aluminium. The big one to watch out for on the Cyber Truck is galvanic corrosion. Stainless Steel and aluminium do not play nicely together, at all. The adhesives used to fasten the panels to the substrate should serve as a good dielectric, but if they are not applied completely, you might have problems. You can also have problems when contaminants build a bridge between the two materials. Hygiene is king.
By the way, I'm a former aviation maintenance engineer (unqualified). Corrosion mitigation, prevention and treatment was a big part of that job.
@@davidbrayshaw3529 Thank you for the advice. My father was an avionics officer during the Vietnam war. I was curious what day 1 preventive maintenance you would recommend for the Cybertruck. Would painting or waxing exposed any metals help prevent corrosion? I would like to get 16+ years out of the Cybertruck like I have from my Tacoma.
@@charleskieser9740 Firstly, your welcome. You might be best off seeking advice from a metallurgist or engineer pertaining to corrosion prevention on your Cybertruck. Although experienced in dealing with corrosion, I'm not an expert in it. All aluminium oxidizes to a point which in itself creates a protective barrier to the material.
Perhaps you could apply a wax or silicone product to reduce contaminants build up, but it is something you would need to investigate.
Regular inspections and cleaning is pretty much the way of the aviation world, aside from painting, and that's a whole 'nother world altogether.
A couple of tips: If you are cleaning aluminium, avoid using silicon carbide products such as wet and dry sand paper. It will impregnate the material
at a sub optic level and cause corrosion. Yes, I know you see people do exactly that all the time, but it's wrong. Use Scothchbrite pads (Aluminium oxide? from memory), Roloc bristle discs, nylon scrubbing brushes etc. Do not use steel or bronze brushes.
Hope this gives you something to investigate and helps you avoid mistakes.
Comparing a Tacoma to a cybertruck over a recall makes little sense. One, the price difference, two, cybertrucks have been and will continue to have recalls issued. Tacoma and cybertruck buyers are 2 different types of buyers

They do make them but they are banned from the U.S. market. Search for "electric jump jeep" to find the video showing the electric truck is safer than the 1940s army jeep but the electric truck is banned while the jeep is street legal.

The price quotes prove one thing in that price does not matter. The best selling truck is also the most expensive.
currently the cybertruck is 80,000 and 100,000. lighting runs from 65,000 to 95,000. rivian runs from 71,000 to 101,000. silverado 96,000. hummer 97,000 to 107,000. and come jan 1 there will be a 60,000 cybertruck. it looks like the cybertruck is just average price for an electric truck.

I wouldn't call it a massive difference considering that the F150L has been on the market since 2022 while the Cybertruck just hit the market with two million preorders. The market for a $100k+ pickup can't be very deep, but if you've been waiting for years and $100k is not a lot of money to you, you'll buy one. According to Barons, "Tesla sold 8,755 Cybertrucks in the second quarter, according to data provider Cox Automotive. That was enough to eclipse the Ford F-150 Lightning’s 7,902 units." That's not a massive difference though buyers are paying a lot more for the Cybertrucks.

The US truck market is very conservative, but there are many other countries where modernism, style, and being different are part of the culture. I can see the CT really taking off in counties like Brazil, or some European counties.
We are starting to see Cybertrucks on the road around here and the look like they are from another planet in the rest of the normal traffic.Lots of them are wrapped. The first people to set up a shop to put a King Ranch style interior in one of these will have a license to print money.
Wraps are currently about $750 to $1k per year ongoing expense but they do look fantastic.

My Nissan 4 banger gets me to Home Depot and to a fishing hole and everything I need a truck for . It cost under $30,000 dollars.

it will be interesting to see the Cybertruck sales totals next yr as they ramp up its production , already leading the month of May sales for all electric truck is good but being only 8 months now since starting their first deliveries its really only still just the beginning..
Tesla trucks cost tons more money than the others and despite that extra costTesla is still ahead of the competition and pulling away. We're finally getting our Cybertruck tomorrow at 11:00 am. We are 300,567 on the regular reservations list which we guessed would be sometime in 2027, so we opted to get the Founder's Series so that we could jump the line. We hope to keep our old reservation number and take delivery of a tri-motor down the road in a few years.

Next generation Cybertruck with better batteries, more efficient tires and the production bugs worked out should sell once the price comes down. Model X started off at $140K, and now is half that including the tax incentives. When Tesla can offer the tri motor Cybertruck with 400 + miles of range for $79K I think it will sell well. A smaller mid sized CT would be something Tesla might be able to export.

3900 vehicles in a month is inconsequential and doubt that it tells us anything. Im on the CT list at around 125k, but Im not sure I will buy because the range is so poor.

There are two different CT's I see all of the time in my town. They really are not as outrageous or obstructive as one would think as America is full of large vehicles. Yes, they are noticeable and look... okay... but do tend to blend in traffic more than one would think before seeing them live on the road.

Silverado EV is very low volume 3257 sold to dealerships with a starting sticker of $79,990. GM is losing almost $30k per sale.

@@jameswilliams5921They are probably easily losing that. There are only two companies in the world who can make EVs at a profit at the moment and that is Tesla and BYD. On top of that BYD barely makes a profit. The only reason those two make a profit at all is extreme vertical integration. Most car companies will have to restructure their entire companies to turn a profit in EV's. Many established companies will not make it. Basically every single Japanese car manufacturer is screwed. Most were far too slow to invest in the tech manufacturing advancements that came with.

Tesla may have had circa 2.2M refundable $100 deposit pre-orders. But when prospective new owners were told "You know that $77k FSD 500 mile range Cybertruck you ordered - well it's nowhere near that range, won't have free FSD, the interior is Model 3 cheap, and oh BTW did I mention it'll now cost you $50k more for less spec than we promised ' - they got their refunds like rats leaving a sinking ship. I know that they did... because I was one of them!
Still love the CT same as the day 4 years ago when I placed a deposit as the day I cancelled….just hate the dual motor price going up 30k and not delivering the promised range. Got a day one reservation for the R2. It won’t be the CT of my dreams but it will be plenty offroad capable for my needs while still being an easy city commute driver.
@@invertedcnc705 I've been a Rivian R1T owner for two years and it's amazing - you will love Rivian! I've owned about 40 cars and 40 motorcycles. The Rivian is the only one that I'll never sell. It's that good. The R2 looks brilliant - keep your deposit down, and you'll be a very happy future owner - Rivians are fast becoming cult-vehicles, with super high customer retention.... just ask any actual owner. Enjoy!

You might be right but I have a nagging feeling the look is very Marmite (love it or hate it) so think the market will be limited, maybe the striking design is actually changing sensibilities though. Plus there is a good backlog of orders.
@@restonthewind They are literally $4k per year less to operate on commercial power and $6k per year less if you have a good solar system. And the ICE trucks they compete with cost $100k too.
They are out of my price range too but the savings over time are compelling.
@@macmcleod1188 I drive an EV and save a bundle on fuel, but an F150 gas truck costs $40k. At $4k/year, it takes fifteen years to make up the difference, longer than most people will own the truck, and most people paying $40k for an F150 gas truck can't imagine spending $100k for a vehicle anyway.
My sister the veterinarian often pulls a horse trailer into the mountains of North Carolina. Even if she could afford Cybertruck, it wouldn't work for her. An F150L wouldn't work for her either.
I think I am in the limited market group. Unless Tesla changes the design to make it more usable as a work truck, it will remain a lifestyle vehicle, which puts it in the same category as the Hummer. I think it is a superior vehicle to the Hummer, but I think both vehicles will be competing for the same customers. Especially if GM and Ford can continue to make improvements to their vehicles. Especially if they develop a 3/4 or 1-ton version with decent towing range.
You probably need the cybervan or a flat deck version of it !

Rivian sold out of 1st gen R1Ts last Q and are just ramping up Gen 2 R1 series deliveries so sale-thrus are down. The Gen 2 features better charging so sales should pick up from here.
If Rivian survives since all they do is lose massive amounts of money. When investors give up, then Rivian goes bankrupt like fisker and soon nikola and lucid.
The Cybertruck looks like its from 2024. That would surely be helping its sales. Things like the F150 lightning are still based on last century's style. Tesla just needs to solve the quality issues of the Cybertruck.
I suspect most people prefer the f150 style over the cybertruck so insinuating that it doesn’t remain a preferred style is quite a leap.
@@singed8853 I think the sales show the modern Cybertruck style has caught on. There have been leaps forward in style in the past that took off and became the norm. The current style didn't always exist and wasn't always what people were comfortable with. At the time, style pioneering seems weird or risky but when it becomes the norm questioning it seems unusual.
I posted the same thing on another channel and they said it was not true lol.
Design wise, yes, it is hard to see how it becomes a mainstream truck, selling 250,000 units a year. 100,000? probably. However, MOST truck buyers are not buying a "truck". they are buying transportation with options. And once, non-truck, truck buyers drive a CT, and see how dead simple and amazing it drives, it will get a lot of that market.

Here in Australia we get diddly squat in EV pickups. We will never see the Rivian so the ramping cybertruck is our only answer.

Per usual Sam is a huge Elon fan. Cybertruck has issues. Rust and issues unless you put car in car wash mode. Don’t wreck one, your insurance will crush you. Tesla overall sales are down for the current quarter and will continue to drop.

They would need a dedicated gigabit factory for it, not producing anything else.
For the USA, that will be sustainable for, at least 5-10 years: each one on the road is a gigantic billboard for Tesla.
Now the have a huge backlog, but in 10 years, there will be new hardware models, and people replacing the old with a new one.

My neighbor has one you have , its been broken down for weeks now he can't get anyone to coming get it
Seling a truck you can't delilver is a joke; they supposedly have 2 million plus orders over the past 4 years; deliveries can be easily seen via drone flights over the austen plant made every day and visible on youtube - the max daily output has been 150; maybe 200 because it is hard to tell if some have been the same spot over night but no more than 200 max on the highest productin day. Since this is already July - the total for 2024 is unikely to exceed 50,000. Not exactly a dent in the orders. Not nly that but 4680 production has yet to taek off to allow more to be made; you just posted how the a new variant of that is due; that won't help.
Once they get the few bugs sorted on this very new car, it will last forever. Cast subframe that won’t rust and stainless steel panels that will last for decades, and brushless electric motors that will also last for decades. It will never die. It will eventually outlive Toyota hilux’s.
the finaL straw will be a mainstream tesla pickup. hes giving ford/chevy/fiat a Long Time to catch up.
I don't see 500k a year sales but certainly 200k+ I'd develop a transit style box van as that market is poorly served, the Ford Transit EV is ok in its new incarnation but not amazing so the market it there for the taking and the engineering should be easier than the Cybertruck.

Couldn't you almost buy 2 F150's for 1 CT ?. I can almost guarantee the fit and finish as well as almost everything else quality wise will be much better on the F150 then it is on CT. Would I buy any EV?? Not no, but #$#l no.
Why is it selling so well? Because it’s f&@king awesome. Never mind the looks, it is so much fun to drive! I’ve had mine for 3 months and I love it. Everyone i let drive it is impressed and either can’t wait to get theirs or wishes they had an order in.

The Out of Spec Review channel has several videos with head-to-head comparisons of Cybertruck vs. F150L vs. Silverado vs. Rivian range with and without towing. Silverado 4WT and 3WT (smaller battery) models both beat the Cybertruck on range without towing. Even the Hummer EV beats the Cybertruck on range without towing. With towing, the Silverado 4WT beats the Cybertruck hands down. The Silverado had better range while towing a very heavy load than the Cybertruck had without towing! The Cybertruck's towing performance was very poor, and several other youtube channels report the same result. Search for a video titled "Setting The Benchmark! Chevy Silverado EV 4WT vs The Rustic Ring Electric Vehicle Towing Challenge".

Why can't you and others just state the cybertruck numbers compared to all vehicles. Not just electric vehicles or electric trucks. Only then will a real picture be shown on how well electric vehicle penetration is. By only comparing to other electric vehicles the audience is living in an echo chamber of a minority or perhaps not.

That's not a good thing. Cybertrucks are utter garbage at doing the job of being a truck. The F150 Lightning is a fantastic jobsite machine for all the reasons you would expect. And the Rivian is a very fine recreational truck.

Sorry but this vehicle was just a stupid childish dream come true for Musk. They can't sell it anywhere else in the world and it is really hard for them to make. Surely with BYD especially starting to cause problems for Tesla in other markets around the world then something smaller than a Model-3 would have been a better decision, cheaper but larger volumes on a world market.
You absolutely miss the point and reason behind the Cybertruck. Firstly, the Utility is a huge seller in the US market. So if your mission is to transform the transport sector, you need to address the Utility market.
Secondly, the Cybertruck is being used the same way as the Roadster. To prove the technology via an expensive product that will then drive down costs for subsequent iterations of cars. In this instance, stainless steel shell, 48V architecture and steer by wire. All are new, all need to be tested and proven, all need to find suppliers to deliver in bulk etcc.
You would never get the Model 2 without vehicles like the Cybertruck and the Roadster. They allow Tesla to learn and prove the technology and do so with an expensive car that people are prepared to buy, therefore minimizing losses. The other automakers tried to deliver cheap cars off the bat and are losing millions.

The Cybertruck is not going to sway in vast numbers the traditional drivers of Silverado/RAM/F Series owners, it just doesn't cut it in all aspects of their usage.
@@rossmyers8448 I was referring to the original Roadster, not the one announced for production in 2025. The first Tesla. The prototype electric car from Tesla. The Lotus with an electric battery and motors.
The Cybertruck may not sway vast numbers, but the point is that Tesla is not doing it all. They are certainly driving the issue otherwise Ford would not have released the Lightning nor GM the Silverado or Hummer EV. Currently the Cybertruck is outselling the Lightning and Rivian combined and it is still early in its ramp. Time will tell what market share it ends up with, but whatever it is, it is greater than the 0% it had of the Utility market 12 months ago.
I saw one in person the other day and it was laughable. Looked like a giant Hot Wheels prototype. The owner was some old guy. It was so obvious he was standing there just waiting for people to come talk to him about it and instead everyone was just ignoring him. lol

Canceling my cybertruck order
I support Musk, but not Trump. To be honest the Dems had Musk until Bernie Sanders started vilifying Musk on the campaign trail saying no individual should make that much money. Musk was so taken aback, because Tesla’s main mission was to get the world to sustainable renewable energy, which is one of the Dems calling cards.
To be honest I’m so disappointed in my party for kicking aside Musk. Anybody who has the nads to take on the norms of a big oil society and succeed deserves a big fat paycheck.
This is our fault… not Musk’s. I’ll vote Democrat and still buy a Tesla as their mission out weighs Musk politics, which he was boxed into.
