I do wish they had gone a little more into Izzy being an outcast in Bridlewood. I feel like that would’ve been a sad but really relatable situation for a lot of this show’s viewerbase- Not just kids. There are few things more crushing than feeling like an outsider in your community/school/family is both great drama and a very real, surprisingly common experience nowadays.
I imagine that Izzy's childhood was similar to mine. i didn't have many friends and was bullied. Having representation in a show like this would have been amazing
Reading this comment made me connect some dots about myself. My gateway anime was Naruto. I started watching it during a time in my life that I had a bully that convinced other people to exclude me. I knew Naruto was my escape, but your comment made me realize that it wasn't just that. The protagonist was someone I could relate to at the time. Naruto was an energetic kid that was lonely due to being cast as an outsider.
The fact that the show does have really good backstory for each of the characters and could put depth into all of them very well, but just doesn’t, makes me just feel bad for how amazing G5 could’ve been if it had just focused more on a decent storyline. And it’s sad because I was genuinely extremely excited for the show.

This could've been an amazing sequel series with probably the best leads ever concwptually, but the show is too scared to make the jumps and even though its fine we can only wonder what it could've been :( That said from what I read of the comics so fat its actually pretty great I hope they keep on going

"Friendship doesnt come naturally to Izzy" is so accurate imo. the storyline where she tries to give Sunny a "perfect day" (which i believe is an episode of S1(?) And has been adapted to at least 2 book formats) she truly wants to be a good friend and genuinely does not get it the whole time until Sunny finally points it out to her, and it was clear to Sunny the whole time, that Izzy was going about it all wrong. She has the best of intentions but is still learning how to do friendship right, and yeah that makes her both sympathetic and kind of relatable

Pinkie was my favorite, and Izzy is my favorite now too. Maybe I’ve always had a thing for energetic happy characters, but I just love them both so much! Pinkie is just chaos and laughter, and Izzy is just Izzy. They’re both unique in their own ways

Older concept art depicts her as more of a chill and laid back hippie which has, of course, been completely changed. I'm not saying this is bad, but I do kind of wish we got that new personality type in the cast.

I think you're misunderstanding the point. When people call her a Pinkie- clone it implies that she is just like Pinkie and therefore not an original character. Ofc Pinkie is lovable but creating a carbon copy of an existing character in a new gen does doesn't speak well for the writers and implies they are lazy.
I've always thought of her as the reincarnated version of Pinkie, like how Sunny is for Twilight. (I mean that in the actual sense not the TV magic sense T^T)

But this is not an excuse to hate on pinkie for "trying to hard to become friends with people" or "being annoying"....
Do you remember Pinkie's backstory? She lived on a rock farm in the middle of nowhere until she moved to ponyville. Seems pretty lonely to me. 😅 Also they weren't going to be exact clones anyway. But she is clearly supposed to be pinkie. Just like how pipp is a rarity clone. 😊
One trait I’ve noticed about Izzy is that she always seems far more excited whenever she’s sharing her unicorn traditions with her friends. Most notably The jinxie games, the Unicorn sleepover, secret cantertime, and that episode where apparently there’s a national unicorn day (although she probably could’ve made that last one up)
When I first watched the movie I was easily able to spot which characters were who from G4. It’s hard to deny that they definitely took traits from the G4 cast. Hitch has a connection with animals like Fluttershy, Zip is literally Rainbow Dash, Pip loves popularity and style, like Rarity, Izzy is energetic and overly happy, like Pinkie. The only ones I don’t see are Apple Jack and Twilight. It’s so easy to make characters that have new traits, but when I was introduced to these characters, they felt like dumbed down versions of G4.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Sure, they share the silly, optimistic, goofball role, but their respective backstories and overall characters have a lot of major differences.
Hear me out twilight’s students could have been the next generation or pinkie pie had a kid the other members of the main 6 could of had kids and that could have been the next generation or the CMC could of had kids. Just so many theories and possibilities and opportunities for the next generation to have so much potential but unfortunately the only LIVING characters left is Spike and that’s just unfortunate

I haven't watched any g5 content really, but based on your description, Pinkie and Izzy are pretty different. Pinkie is friends with every creature in Ponyville, and although Izzy seems to just be naturally happy, Pinkie was seen as miserable as first until she saw rainbow's sonic rainboom

Gen 5 is great, i haven't watched much of any of the shows honestly, but i love the characters and the movie. But never, never ever EVER will any tv show or any new gen be above gen 4 for me personally, because honestly, mlp saved my life and gen 4 is actual perfection, my life is very complicated and honestly tragic but this show has made me laugh and smile so much, i absolutely adore the songs and have watched all of the gen 4 shows and movies, i know all the characters and im 98% sure i can name every single pony and creature, and tbh, there will never be any show or movie that will be more life changing and amazing than Mlp gen 4, because i live in an awful, awful country with a religion that seems more and more like a cult, and if i hadn't watched this show and fell in love with it, im 70% sure i would be homophobic, misogynistic, EXTREMELY religious, married at 12 years old, and racist, because of my little pony, i can say proudly that i am none of those, and i do think i still wouldn't be if i didn't watch it, but i know for sure i would not be as kind or loving as i am now, and my personality would definitely be very different if i hadn't come across MLP, because from the moment i started watching, i loved Fluttershy and Pinkie, and i am very much like fluttershy and pinkie now (yes i know theyre kinda opposites but flutters because animals, shyness and kindness, and pinkie because making others laugh, loving when ppl smile, loving pink, and being cheerful)
Warning: long comment below. Sorry, I kinda went on a tangent, but I seem way more invested in this then I initially thought I was. I think for Pinkie Pie, friends are a need. While with Izzy, friends are a dream. Pinkie Pie’s destiny *needs* to have other ponies in order to be fulfilled, and when she’s making them happy she in turn is happy as well. It probably becomes a loop at that point too. But there’s also something distinctly unique about Pinkie’s character- after all when magic returned to the creatures, Pinkie had something returned to her too. Then there’s Izzy. For Izzy, her personality is cheery, optimistic, and upbeat. It’s in the core of who she is, and I think a really big reason she can maintain this part of her is actually due to her cutiemark. For unicorns, it seems pretty standard that their destinies are going to be deeply tied into magic of some sort. Or at the very least- they’d need magic to make it work best. Izzy is a crafter. They are creative, unique, spontaneous. And their hobby can be so fun, rewarding, and fulfilling. And I imagine her personality, hobby and cutiemark, allows her to see and feel things that others can’t very easily. If there’s a use for something, she’ll either find it or make it. If there’s a bright side, she’ll find it or create it. Another way to look at it is… being able to fulfill their destiny is vital for who they are. For Pinkie’s it becomes a loop of energy. For Izzy it’s creating and being creative- which makes it self sustaining. Earth ponies can readily have it available to them, and the pegasus live in a high windy place with their spirits uplifted by their royalty figures. But what do unicorns have to nourish their inner spark?
I hope the writers take more advantage of the G5 cast in the following seasons. They are awesome characters, playing more with their dynamics give us so many great stories. EDIT: I JUST FOUND OUT THE SHOW GOT CANCELLED!??!?
People forget that in real life: PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT NAMES CAN HAVE ALIKE PERSONALITIES AND ATTITUDES. This world isn’t a “are you a pinky clone or a twilight clone”. It’s a world of “we may have similar traits and we would make great friends but we are our own unique people/ponies at the end of the day.” - The comparison is exhausting because all the people are teaching us that YOU must be a CLONE of someone else. And you aren’t. You are your own person with your own thoughts and your own feelings.
I think a lot of people are just making up excuses to not like g5 because it's different from g4. I mean, don't get me wrong, g5 DOES have a lot of flaws and could be better. I just needed to say that. I completely understand if you disagree.
I adore her design so much. No doubt she was probably inspired by all the “unicorn flavored” food that was trending around 2010s, but I never understand her name “Izzy” I’m not quite sure what this meant this seems like a normal person/human name. Its like if you name a pony “Kyle ForestFire”
NO THAT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING !!! she’s so excited to share her excitement with others that not only reciprocate it but love her and her energy !! she’s just a little adhd baby. she IS NOT a borderline element of chaos and breaks the 4th wall or really the life of the party. she’s just that one lovable friends you have at some point in your life that reminds you of a small, excitable dog that’s just happy to be included in something and share every part of themselves with you and their friends
I just generally dislike the new generation. I mostly didn't like the idea of like half my childhood ending and something new being made in it's place, but I was still expecting myself to warm up to it. But the new generation was a little... Not my preferences to say the least.
I'm just disappointed that the design and personality of Izzy's prototype would be much more interesting to watch, I just, just can't help but see Izzy as a less interesting copy of Pinkie Pie
Personally, I view Izzy as less of a Pinkie clone, and more of a Pinkie/Rarity hybrid. Sure she's got a bit of Pinkie's zanieness, but she's also an artist like Rarity was, and even a bit of an entrepreneur in how she turned her "unicycling" from just her making her own projects into things she now makes for others as well.
another difference is that pinkie is kinda……dimwitted(she called herself 5th place in rainbow road-trip) meanwhile Izzy and can some smarts to her. (Just a thought)
so I was begging by fan growing up I’ve been the cream puff version. Well I try to. I was like five other time. Basically I love pinky. I can just not connect with Izzy like pinkie pie with me, pinkie pie pink, my girl me and her had some like she trust the people who have been Kenmark because they were always smiling. I don’t trust they always seem happy.
I like Izzy because she’s actually the pony that kickstarted everything in the show. She came to Maretime Bay and befriended Sunny which led to their whole adventure to bring back magic. Her outgoing personality never seems to lose strength. It makes sense for her to be excitable because she’s never had so many friends before and it makes sense for her to be creative because what do people who have no friends do? Have hobbies that utilise their creativity
Not to mention that Pinkie went out of her way to be friends with characters that didn't want to be friends and said multiple times to her.

One trait I’ve noticed about Izzy is that she always seems far more excited whenever she’s sharing her unicorn traditions with her friends. Most notably The jinxie games, the Unicorn sleepover, secret cantertime, and that episode where apparently there’s a national unicorn day (although she probably could’ve made that last one up)
Honestly, I only liked Lizzy because she reminds me of Pinkie Pie. I hated everything else about the series and new generation
When I first watched the movie I was easily able to spot which characters were who from G4. It’s hard to deny that they definitely took traits from the G4 cast. Hitch has a connection with animals like Fluttershy, Zip is literally Rainbow Dash, Pip loves popularity and style, like Rarity, Izzy is energetic and overly happy, like Pinkie. The only ones I don’t see are Apple Jack and Twilight. It’s so easy to make characters that have new traits, but when I was introduced to these characters, they felt like dumbed down versions of G4.
The new mlp is good….but it’s not our beloved twilight sparkle, rainbow dash, flutter shy, apple jack, rarity, and pinkie pie😔
I never once thought that Izzy was a Pinkie Pie clone. I always called her "the Pinkie Pie of the group". Says a lot, doesn't it?
Couldn't have said it better myself. Sure, they share the silly, optimistic, goofball role, but their respective backstories and overall characters have a lot of major differences.

Just so many theories and possibilities and opportunities for the next generation to have so much potential but unfortunately the only LIVING characters left is Spike and that’s just unfortunate

Izzy to me feels very autistic coded and I like that about her. Pinkie could also be labelled like that but to me they'd be on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum

I haven't watched any g5 content really, but based on your description, Pinkie and Izzy are pretty different. Pinkie is friends with every creature in Ponyville, and although Izzy seems to just be naturally happy, Pinkie was seen as miserable as first until she saw rainbow's sonic rainboom

Gen 5 is great, i haven't watched much of any of the shows honestly, but i love the characters and the movie. But never, never ever EVER will any tv show or any new gen be above gen 4 for me personally, because honestly, mlp saved my life and gen 4 is actual perfection, my life is very complicated and honestly tragic but this show has made me laugh and smile so much, i absolutely adore the songs and have watched all of the gen 4 shows and movies, i know all the characters and im 98% sure i can name every single pony and creature, and tbh, there will never be any show or movie that will be more life changing and amazing than Mlp gen 4, because i live in an awful, awful country with a religion that seems more and more like a cult, and if i hadn't watched this show and fell in love with it, im 70% sure i would be homophobic, misogynistic, EXTREMELY religious, married at 12 years old, and racist, because of my little pony, i can say proudly that i am none of those, and i do think i still wouldn't be if i didn't watch it, but i know for sure i would not be as kind or loving as i am now, and my personality would definitely be very different if i hadn't come across MLP, because from the moment i started watching, i loved Fluttershy and Pinkie, and i am very much like fluttershy and pinkie now (yes i know theyre kinda opposites but flutters because animals, shyness and kindness, and pinkie because making others laugh, loving when ppl smile, loving pink, and being cheerful)

Warning: long comment below. Sorry, I kinda went on a tangent, but I seem way more invested in this then I initially thought I was.
I think for Pinkie Pie, friends are a need. While with Izzy, friends are a dream.
Pinkie Pie’s destiny *needs* to have other ponies in order to be fulfilled, and when she’s making them happy she in turn is happy as well. It probably becomes a loop at that point too. But there’s also something distinctly unique about Pinkie’s character- after all when magic returned to the creatures, Pinkie had something returned to her too.
Then there’s Izzy. For Izzy, her personality is cheery, optimistic, and upbeat. It’s in the core of who she is, and I think a really big reason she can maintain this part of her is actually due to her cutiemark. For unicorns, it seems pretty standard that their destinies are going to be deeply tied into magic of some sort. Or at the very least- they’d need magic to make it work best. Izzy is a crafter. They are creative, unique, spontaneous. And their hobby can be so fun, rewarding, and fulfilling. And I imagine her personality, hobby and cutiemark, allows her to see and feel things that others can’t very easily. If there’s a use for something, she’ll either find it or make it. If there’s a bright side, she’ll find it or create it.
Another way to look at it is… being able to fulfill their destiny is vital for who they are. For Pinkie’s it becomes a loop of energy. For Izzy it’s creating and being creative- which makes it self sustaining. Earth ponies can readily have it available to them, and the pegasus live in a high windy place with their spirits uplifted by their royalty figures. But what do unicorns have to nourish their inner spark?
I don't know much about the new show, but I think she could've been a descendant of Pinkie in a way. Just a thought, but I could be wrong.

I hope the writers take more advantage of the G5 cast in the following seasons. They are awesome characters, playing more with their dynamics give us so many great stories.

People forget that in real life: PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT NAMES CAN HAVE ALIKE PERSONALITIES AND ATTITUDES. This world isn’t a “are you a pinky clone or a twilight clone”. It’s a world of “we may have similar traits and we would make great friends but we are our own unique people/ponies at the end of the day.” - The comparison is exhausting because all the people are teaching us that YOU must be a CLONE of someone else. And you aren’t. You are your own person with your own thoughts and your own feelings.
Generation 5 sucks so much compared to G4, but I do love Izzy Moonbow. Pinkie Pie for life though obviously.
I think a lot of people are just making up excuses to not like g5 because it's different from g4.

I adore her design so much. No doubt she was probably inspired by all the “unicorn flavored” food that was trending around 2010s, but I never understand her name “Izzy” I’m not quite sure what this meant this seems like a normal person/human name. Its like if you name a pony “Kyle ForestFire”
NO THAT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING !!! she’s so excited to share her excitement with others that not only reciprocate it but love her and her energy !! she’s just a little adhd baby. she IS NOT a borderline element of chaos and breaks the 4th wall or really the life of the party. she’s just that one lovable friends you have at some point in your life that reminds you of a small, excitable dog that’s just happy to be included in something and share every part of themselves with you and their friends
I just generally dislike the new generation. I mostly didn't like the idea of like half my childhood ending and something new being made in it's place, but I was still expecting myself to warm up to it. But the new generation was a little... Not my preferences to say the least.
I'm just disappointed that the design and personality of Izzy's prototype would be much more interesting to watch, I just, just can't help but see Izzy as a less interesting copy of Pinkie Pie
Personally, I view Izzy as less of a Pinkie clone, and more of a Pinkie/Rarity hybrid. Sure she's got a bit of Pinkie's zanieness, but she's also an artist like Rarity was, and even a bit of an entrepreneur in how she turned her "unicycling" from just her making her own projects into things she now makes for others as well.
another difference is that pinkie is kinda……dimwitted(she called herself 5th place in rainbow road-trip) meanwhile Izzy and can some smarts to her.

so I was begging by fan growing up I’ve been the cream puff version. Well I try to. I was like five other time. Basically I love pinky. I can just not connect with Izzy like pinkie pie with me, pinkie pie pink, my girl me and her had some like she trust the people who have been Kenmark because they were always smiling. I don’t trust they always seem happy.
I like Izzy because she’s actually the pony that kickstarted everything in the show. She came to Maretime Bay and befriended Sunny which led to their whole adventure to bring back magic. Her outgoing personality never seems to lose strength.
It makes sense for her to be excitable because she’s never had so many friends before and it makes sense for her to be creative because what do people who have no friends do? Have hobbies that utilise their creativity
