  • The Circle of Thirds and the Circle of Fifths are important in music theory. But how do you actually use them in songwriting? Here's a good example....

    Is the classification
    tonic: 1, 3, 6
    subtonic: 2, 4
    dominant: 5, 7
also applicable for all the other modes?

Numbers plus Song title equals 🟰 Chapters Lyrics equals Details. In my opinion the number is a chapter which means a main division of a book, typically with a number or title while the song title is a song title more of chapter 1 leaning towards book 📕 📖 📚. For me as a listener studio album 💿 and book 📖 📕 are the same. Because both books and studio albums have a song title and a number right next to it which is book 📕 📖 📚 and chapter. It dosen't matter how you say it if an album total = duration is about 29:25 and it has
about 10 chapters it would considered a mini book
📕 📖 but an album that has 8
chapters and the total = duration is about 49:37 it would consider as a full book
to me it dosen't matter how long or short the albums are but in my preference albums are book 📕 📖 📚. When the “average CD length” was ruling the world, an album had to be “long enough” or “short enough” to fit the Audio CD. Overly inspired bands and musicians would provide double CD albums, but for some considerable decades, an average length music album would be approximately 60 minutes, with the usual maximum of 74 minutes, besides a few exceptions of 80 minutes. But nowadays, without being framed to a defined length by the physical format and technology, there are various ways of deciding on your album’s tracklist length. The way to decide an album’s length relies more and more on the musician’s artistic choices and release strategy in order to reach more audience, rather than mainstream expectations or technological limitations. There were always books with a thousand pages next to books with less than a hundred pages on bookshelves, and the readers were okay with it, as the price of a book oftentimes altered depending on the length of the book (as much as its popularity). But the very short albums in the physical format would not be “worthy to buy” for most of the fans, since producing the physical copies (not the music but the copies) of a short or a long album would cost almost the same, there wouldn’t be as big a price difference between the two. But just like the books, today the album lengths are varying more and more and audience are okay with it. Users of music streaming services do not feel a “price difference” in most of the platforms due to the stream economy rules being different than the printed music industry.

Amazing! // And, yet, except this IS esoteric knowledge. It is the harmony of nature (literally) that has not been recognized by modernism and what it considered the contemporary. In a strange way, the Victorian "Age of Enlightenment" took us AWAY from enlightenment. // I must add, In addition to this excellent presentation of chord function, please refer to my thoughts on thematic _choice_ of key, which I call my Theory of Pitch Psychology. Which on my own page. I also created two alternate Circle of 5ths charts: My "Tower of 5ths" and "Flower of 5ths." - Be well! // Proto-sonically yours, _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

And why are album 💿 are viewed as one big story?

It is a cohesive collection of songs used to tell a bigger theme or project an overall vibe. Think of an album as a book. And your songs as chapters. Every book has chapters. Every album has songs. Each chapter is different. Each song is different. But the collection of chapters (the collection of songs) is what tells the full story of the book (of the album). Every song has a story. Some albums are just a collection of songs without the intention of telling the bigger story. Some albums are designed to tell a bigger story. Sequencing might be only about the way the music flows, but if the album tells a story than sequencing can do that too. Usually the songs on an album are the result of an artist's creations during a season of life. This means the songs can all speak to a similar set of themes, ideas and topics. So the aim of an album name is to try and sum up the big story/concept that all the songs pull from when they were written. It's not always like these, especially today. But traditionally, an album is like a "book" with the songs inside being like "chapters."

I can't stand that chorus. I think the song would have sounded better just using the I, IV, and V and keeping the same melody. Is this in the same key as Ob-La- Di, Ob-La-Da?
