  • There are 4 basic chords in music, each with a different set of intervals. Here, we look at why they all sound distinct -- and, more importantly, we explore a hidden insight they reveal about the way we perceive music.

This is extraordinarily interesting to me. This is an illustration and solution to so many of the problems/questions I've had about music theory all of musical life now, which is about 30 years of struggle. Cannot thank you enough.

    13:45 "A major 3rd plus a minor 3rd equals a perfect 5th" Mindblown!! I never realized that.

I missed it; see you on the following live. I just received the chord wheel in the mail; thank you for selling it.

I'm trying to describe the sensations experienced by my mind and the best word I could find was blown. Back when I was first introuced to the circle of fifths and the concept of a leading tone, I asked several musical friends of mine what would happen if they trained someone to always descend. We all learn our scales ascending to start. My reasoning is that the leading tone is leading us on another type of journey, n'est-ce pas? I asked several people in Switzerland, and online of people living in the tubes. Maybe Mike can do a video about this?
I'm also trying to learn about the Guidonian hand. I am not a singer!!! NOT. But I have heard that someone who was trained in solfège used his hands for notation. More interesting, he said that he felt the notes as he played the lute.
I'm a doctor that studied lots of Applied Kinesiology. I learned that the brain had 10% devoted to the hand, and 45% devoted to the TMJ. That's the jaw, since Mike never studied anatomy. But I also took a course in which they theorized that it wasn't the brain that controls the body, but the body that controls the brain. Motion equals emotion, in other words. I've never been able to prove them wrong. The Guidonian hand had been used in Europe for over a Millenia, so it was passed down for generations. So a good musician has it in their body and sings the notes they're playing. Imagine the effect on the brain, since hearing is on a whole other level for control of the brain.

I think the church played as much a role in the spread of music as its physical directionality; left-handedness was thought to be evil in highly religious institutions

Your content was so good when I discovered your channel and it still is, but at this point you're just repeating yourself. I wouldn't mind if I were able to buy your stickers, but your store is so insanely expensive and international shipping is basically not an option.
