We could also treat III as a cusp between tonic and dominant and to a lesser extent VII as a cusp between dominant and sub dominant
hi i actually ordered some stickers for my guitar...i already know most of the theory but I just wanted to see how it might help me memorize the fretboard. Ive been playing jazz bass and guitar since high school but im starting to pick it up again....i go for years without playing.....i think the circle of thirds thing is related to the only 3 dimished chords or am I wrong?
Mississauga Ontario Canada!
Swiss Geek here, with no musicality. So maybe that's why it's taking me longer to see relationships with chords. I just learned something that should have been obvious.
A minor seven chord in a key has a relationship with one of the Primary chords.
The ii7 with the IV, the iii7 with the V and the vi7 with the I.
So you can just play the major chord and change the bass note. Duh.
Another reason G is a popular key for Country Music is that the majority of 5-string banjos are tuned in some version of Open G.
It's fairly simple on fiddle too.
