Two powerful sanitation devices are ozone generators and chlorine dioxide generators.
It's difficult to sell a home that has had pets because of the odor. Leave an ozone generator operating overnight and the odor is gone.
I was just thinking the same thing. Ozone generators can be very compact. I've actually used one to remove odor from my Model 3 Tesla between cabin filter changes. Bought a used Jaguar for my wife years ago, and it came smelling like cigarettes. I used the ozone generator to permanently remove the odor in one session of just a few hours.
Yeah we have several units from Amazon that work really well.
Except that ozone generators are not allowed indoors (in the EU) because of health risks. Ozone is extremely poisonous.
@@RemydeRuysscher Yes, I am aware, that is why it could only be used while the car is unoccupied and then flushed out with fresh air well before the next passenger(s) enter the vehicle.

Parameter increase is not 5x more data but 5x more potential nuance in processing the data.
Even if it is limited to only vehicles, that cleaning patent could potentially apply to Starship, buses, trains , planes, cruise ships, space stations. . . they all fit the definition of vehicle with multiple passengers. The flow diagram unnecessarily limits it to a process performed at a remote location, where the cleaning could just as well come to the space.
I was thinking the same...could this be yet another revenue stream for Tesla?

The visual autopark can parallel park very well BUT if parking on the left it will completely ignore a curb on the right (very narrow road) and it will just destroy your rims if you let it. This is an odd blind spot for it to have. Let's hope it doesn't ignore other things like cars or VRUs too.

Imagine looking down the road deciding whether or not it is a good time to go and you are concentrating on a very small area of your vision resolution capabilities. Now imagine what you are viewing is being viewed by a camera. The importance of just a few pixels changing is exactly what FSD needs to understand to make the safe decision just like a good human driver would use to come to the same conclusion of whether or not to proceed. Adding more parameters to the FSD model is just what is needed to cover these critical yet small visual inputs.
Thanks. Remember Tesla patents are filed to protect Tesla's access to technology advancements and to block patent trolls. They are not filed to lock up the market.

I kept wondering how my Tesla robotaxi was going to get cleaned - both in and out - as well as charged all on its own and now all I can think is that Tesla needs to install car washes at every supercharger station so after my car gets charged it can run thru the car wash before heading back out to taxi

I have a 2020 Tesla Model Y and I have FSD.
1) My BIG issue with FSD is that "Assertive" mode is NOT assertive. To be clear:

Based on that definition, FSD is NOT assertive. If anything it is closer to a 90 year old for a 15 year old (the latter which has never actually driven) who knows but rules but is not confident and is not "assertive".
2) It drives WAY too far in the RIGHT part of lanes. In WA State we have something called "rain" which is why we have a rounded road which is also called a "crown" so that water runs off and goes into gutters and then into drains. When I turn FSD on it goes so far into the right of the lane that it ends up in gutters and goes over the drains. That is NOT okay! I mean REALLY NOT OKAY!
3) When I turn on FSD and someone slows down in front of me, my Model Y does NOT pick back up to the speed that it was going before the car in front of me slowed down. It stays 5 to 10 mph below what it was going previously to the vehicle slowing down in front of me and it either stays that way no matter if the vehicle in front of me is a mile or head OR what it does it catches up to the vehicle in front of me and gets so close that my wife freaks out. I have my put over the brake pedal just in case but it does back off, it stays way too close OR way too far. I have to turn off FSD, get to the speed and distance that I want and then turn it back on. And I have to do this MULTIPLE times on every trip. How Elon and others are not having to cut off FSD or it cutting off on its own I have ZERO idea because I DO! And I'm talking about a 15 minute trip I have to do this three or four times AT MINIMUM! This is NOT acceptable.
3) It no longer gives me the option to set my max speed. This is after the latest update that I got. And that REALLY pisses me off. I want the car to drive the speed that ME, MYSELF and I want to drive it at. Not whatever the heck it FEELS like.
4) When I DID get the opportunity to set my max speed, FSD only gives you the option to set a percentage of what speed you want it to go over the speed limit. I DO NOT WANT to set a percentage. I want to set it to 5 mph over the speed limit no matter what the F'ING speed limit is.

Personally, I would not buy FSD right now the way it is. Yes, it IS better but it is also MUCH worse at the same time. I don't want a computer figuring out what speed I'm going to go. I want to choose that and then it can manage its ability to drive within that speed limit. And when someone slows down in front of me and then speeds back up. I want my F'ING car to speed back up to a REASONABLE and SAFE distance from the car in front of me assuming that it isn't going fast than what I want to set the max speed at. If it is going faster, fine with me. Be gone.
I end up turning off FSD because I get so frustrated with it no matter if it is on the freeway or off the freeway. Or maybe my computer in my car is F'D up and I need a way to reset it completely. I've pushed in both buttons so that it resets the computer but that doesn't reset FSD if mine is screwed up.
I try to tell Tesla that but I hear nothing back from them. I wish I could get my $10,000 back. I just can't leave it on long enough to make it worthwhile because it keeps screwing up what it is supposed to do and then they are taking away my ability to set my speed and have it properly keep slowing down and speeding up appropriately and ASSERTIVELY.
My dream would be for it to learn how I drive and drive like me. At minimum it should drive and give me the settings as I obviously want based on what I wrote above. Call me one totally F'ING frustrated Tesla owner when it comes to FSD. And BELIEVE me. I WANT this thing to work!

Put everything in the patent. They don't have to use it. If you cant get a suntan behind the glass roof its blocked most of the useful stuff. an ozone generator would be good.
My son drives for Uber from time to time. Many times Uber is called because some has had too much to drink and is not fit to drive. It is not unusually for these riders to get sick. Barf bags are kept handy, but sometimes they are not enough. It's had to imagine how this would deal with this situation. Sometimes riders can be very gross people.

As Tesla goes ball-to-the-wall in robotaxis, they easily be staffing up a full new division for that business line. Getting an experienced ride share executive on board -- operations or board -- is timely.
I didn't know each release had to be trained from ground up. I thought the meaning of progress was you build on what you already had trained. but he is in fact creating a new FSD with every small release.

The RoboTaxi will be a superior solution for on-demand transportation over Uber. Uber's feedback mechanism does not work since the driver can see the rating of the users. I leave higher scores than I would if it were anonymous. I have gotten into Ubers that should not have a high score but were rated 5 star. Both unpleasant drivers and/or unmaintained vehicles. I would expect that a RoboTaxi would only use feedback constructively so accurate feedback would be beneficial.
I understand what you mean. I've had pleasant drivers with good conversation but the driving/car maintenance was subpar and I hate leaving them bad reviews so I rate them higher than they deserved.
Tesla RoboTaxi will be self-cleaning, so it should not be a problem for Tesla to fix all the rust that appears after a short time on the new Tesla Model Y.
Tesla Model Y is highly susceptible to rust are as follows: 1. Several of the most vulnerable areas are not covered by the wheel arch liner. 2. The chassis does not have galvanization.

I'm planning to purchase a refreshed Model 3 LR next month. The information I have says these latest versions have what is called HW3.5 but with HW4 cameras. Any comment on that and how it relates to the direction FSD is going? I know all technology eventually becomes outdated, but I hope my computer can handle the latest versions of FSD for at least 3 years.

I doubt that vehicle sanitisation is patentable. Not exactly novel.Probably easy to circumvent ( photos of interior sent to remote operator). Probably better to use ozone.

Some of the cabs I've ridden in the NYC area smelled of _ganja,_ vomit, urine, and/or feces 🤢🤮 so wiping down the seat belts would have been a _ne plus ultra_ clean cab.

Tesla has posted a second fall in quarterly sales in a row as it faces fierce competition from China.
The US electric car maker, led by Elon Musk, delivered 443,956 vehicles in the three months to the end of June.
This was 5 per cent less than in the same period of 2023 and follows a 9per cent decline in the first quarter of the year.
It was the first back-to-back quarterly sales fall since 2012. However, sales were slightly stronger than analysts were predicting.
It also puts it ahead of its closest Chinese rival BYD.

Another important issue to consider is how to retire the fleet. If tesla produces 5M taxis in 2028, in theory all 5M will be retired in 8-10 years, or at the end of their life cycle. How has tesla planned to retire 6-8-10 million robotaxis every year? I suspect they have a very well engineered plan to recycle upwards of 90+% of each robotaxi. It goes against elon's mission to fill landfills with massive car parts every year. And though it may seem unimportant in the grand scheme, how does a company managing 100M robotaxis globally deal with lost and found? For a premium experience, riders must be reunited with their belongings left in the robotaxi. Tesla cant simply ignore this issue which will be significant when providing 100+ million unique rides per day.
5M in 2028? That's insanely optimistic and probably logistically impossible. They would be foolish to build a single one until autonomy is solved, otherwise they sit in a parking lot gathering dust. If autonomy is solved in 2026, which is a generous assumption, then it's another year to build a production line, then maybe a 500k run rate by the end of the first year.
Then 39k, 49k, 59k. Now 99k, 119k......Modern day Music Man.😂

Why didn't the millions of robotaxi-imminent Teslas sold during the past half decade have sanitizing tech?

Tesla’s patent policy is to patent all inventions - big or small - to avoid being sued by other companies.
It is free for all other companies to use Tesla’s patents, unless you start a patent conflict with Tesla. If so, you need to pay for all patents that you use. Quite clever.
It’s not rocket science to “invent” automatic cleaning. The patents stops other companies from “inventing” automatic cleaning and sue Tesla.
If you don’t have to have steering wheel and panel speedometer and a bunch of other crap, it leaves room to innovate on other things

I cant even imagine what tesla will be doing in 10 years.
Hw3 sucks in terms of tflops so 100% sure it will require hw4 to run 5x more parameters. Current hw3 ai model is about 1 billion parameters which is normal for diffusion models. I am not sure what kind of ai model Tesla use or whether it is a system of smaller ai models working together.
This is my prediction:
8/8 Tesla announces app and a way for me to make money and get free FSD by offering rides on the network.
10 rides/month with supervised FSD and it’s free.
1-We get a chance to earn Uber type money and get FSD for free.
2- Tesla gets the data until full FSD unsupervised is rolled out in Robotaxi.
3-Customer gets cheaper rides and gets their first interaction with a Tesla.
Everyone wins.
Legacy auto has long neglected many aspects of the vehicle because they outsourced to save money and that has led to limited innovation in things like heating/cooling and software. Tesla has a different approach, it's not just about being an EV with Tesla.
Is Tesla training an AI that will train the FSD AI? And maybe an AI to train that AI?

There is a REASON why Kalanick isn't at Urber anymore. He was a total a**hole and he had so many things he was doing wrong or people were doing wrong underneath him that never got changed and should have been. I SINCERELY hope that people like him do NOT get hired at Tesla because the morals and ethics at Tesla would plummet.
There is a difference between admiring someone's ideas and starting a company and getting that going. There is another thing where his ethics and morals derailed his career in Uber and those things should NOT be forgotten or swept under the rug but brought up every time his name is mentioned.
