    The starburst dinnerware reminds me a lot of dishes that were offered as premiums at A&P supermarkets in the 60s. Each week there was a different dish that you got for free with every $10 you spent. The serving and auxiliary pieces were available for sale in the store as well so you could complete your set.

    I can remember those light covers in my parents home. I thought they were ugly back in the 70's. Funny how you come to appreciate the little things.

    I don't know, but the ash tray with the dinner ware really took me back to when my Mom and Aunts and Uncles would all have a dinner party - oh, the smoke! Whew

    My favorite part was you telling us about the frozen glasses, lol! Favorite items: the Culver ice bucket and glasses, really beautiful set. Great work ~ and I totally agree about dishwashers, I hate them.

      Star Dust , I went to a sale down the street from my shop , looking for some items to add to my inventory. Here in her front yard sits a sweet lil grandmother with a dishpan in her lap washing dishes, vases ,glasses etc... drying them on a tarp. I bought a ton of stuff, you could tell the age by how much dust had been building over the years .Beautiful Frankoma pottery Fenton and all kinds of glass. You never know what you may stumble upon, just driving by I bet hardly anyone would have stopped.

    ❤️❤️❤️ the federal glass pieces are beautiful! I keep passing up a cranberry etched vase similar to that at my local vintage shop because no markings. Thank you. I’ll be picking that beauty up next time I’m in there.

    How someone can run a business that way, she will fail.
    You made a good buy. Some really nice items.
    That starburst vase I would call “wine” color.
    I had those kinds of light in my first house years ago. I love the way the light’s shines.
    You did great buying those items. It’s nice to see you buy different items.

    I bet those star burst dishes were acquired from the old days when places would give away dishes if u made a certain purchase...Kroger used to do it, I'm sure many others did too. I'm sure the ashtray was a part of what u could choose from...how cool! U made out, greatly....excellent video! Thank u!

    1 you don't have complete sets (less valuable). That was not a gravy boat but a sauce bowl made for 2 ladles. You don't have all of the cups. Sell what you can as a set including butter dish etc.. You devalue the set breaking it up.
    Don't stack your dishes any higher than 6 at a time. No plastic in between them.
    Your ceiling light covers are still available at Home Depot for a few bucks.

    I saw a stack of the starburst dinner plates a couple of weeks ago -- I think at a GW -- and grabbed them immediately. There were 6, but 2 were in crummy condition. They were .99 apiece so I got the 4. I want to hoard them but I have teenage sons and only have breakable dishes that I don't care about and our glassware is used spaghetti sauce jars. I haven't even washed them yet. So glad you found that amazing set!!!

    • @trace-elementz1343
      @trace-elementz1343 7 років тому

      Yeah, I think they are vintage. I think they were also distributed by a floral company. Those flower companies would order vases from major glass manufacturers by the thousands. They may have originally been used for something like an FTD delivery? My mom says she "thinks" she had one that came with a bouquet of flowers??? Love your finds and your channel. You have good info and very knowledgeable!!!

    I remember from old political talkshow footage, that at least until the 70s people smoked on TV and smoking in general was very accepted and normal. I assume it was not uncommon to smoke during a family meal. That's at least how I explain myself the ashtray.

      zrp8y23 yes I do understand, you take people to the cleaners, that not Right, sorry, how would you feel if you saw him buy something for $1.00 or less, but then you think you want to buy a pieace or 2 and then he wants $200.00 for that $1.00 item, I would rather give it away, than Take advantage of someone who want the item but really can't afford it, but that me, sorry if you don't like what I say, see the lady was asking $8.00 each and he Jews her down, so he did wrong, just open your ears and listen to him!

    • @zrp8y23
      @zrp8y23 7 років тому +2

      He never wanted anywhere near $200.00 for a $1.00 item. That's immaterial to begin with as everyone wants to get the best deal they can and there's nothing wrong with making an offer for less. Regarding how i would feel - I watched a woman pay 50 cents each for two Majolica begonia leaf dishes at a yard sale. I paid her $30.00 each for them 10 minutes later. It' is immaterial what someone pays for something and what they sell it for. There is nothing wrong with making good money on an item that you buy. That is not ripping people off.

    • @RealNiftyVintage
      @RealNiftyVintage  6 років тому +16

      I'm not sure you quite understand how resale or commerce works. I buy an item from another party who agrees to sell it for an agreed upon price. No one has to sell me anything and if they think they can sell it for more, they can tell me to take a hike. I then resell the item with the knowledge or hope to make more money on it. Here is the question; why didn't the original owner just sell it for full retail price and make ALL the money themselves? The quick answer is they don't want to, have time, or have the knowledge that it could be worth more. Also remember, in this case, the woman I bought these items from probably paid very little to the ORIGINAL owner so she could sell them in her shop for 10-15x's HER investment. It's a cycle.
      Here is the great news, I'm not selling things people actually NEED. In a free market like we are given, someone can either purchase from me or not based on their means and desire. If they want to find it on their own through thrifting to save money they can. Many people don't have time or desire to scour thrift stores all day looking for a hard to find piece to "finish their collection" or find the "perfect piece" for a spot on the shelf. You can believe me or not, but even I am willing to pay RETAIL prices from fellow sellers who have something I WANT that I cannot find easily. I just bought a set of china from the 50's that I have been wanting for years and paid $120. I haven't been able to find it, so I payed up for someone who had it. I have various pieces of carnival glass I have paid $50-$115 for a few pieces from other re-sellers too. On my wall hangs two brass seagulls from the 60's. I paid $45 for the pair over a year ago on Etsy from another seller. Since then, I have found ones just like it at a thrift store for $3. I listed the ones I found and they sold quickly for good money.
      If I manage to find something for a $1 and sell it for $200, I would be very proud that I stumbled across such a great find. Remember, something is only worth $200 because that is what people are willing to pay. Be it scarcity, age or quality. I just wanted to stress a little on how resale works. It works similarly in any industry (Walmart, Target, Best Buy etc.), but in vintage resale, profits have a bigger potential because of the limited supply and growing demand.
