    Your 1930's waterfall set is great. It took me back to my grand parent's bedroom. I can just smell the mothballs! It's great you found it without any chipped veneer.

    I love the vase and the postcards. I have many from my family from over the years, and can't resist them when I see them at my Mall. Thanks for sharing your great finds! Say 'hi' to Aaron and Stella for me!

    The utensils are a barware set. The item you called a whisk is actually a strainer that fits over the top of a shaker and catches seeds, ice, or other things that don’t need to end up in the glass. The tall spoon is for mixing as well as muddling. Since it’s barware you might get more than if they were just kitchenware.

    • @RealNiftyVintage
      @RealNiftyVintage  6 років тому +3

      Wowsers. Yes I agree that the bar-ware would be worth more than just odds'n ends kitchen pieces.. Thanks for watching!

      I love the dresser mirror. My grandmother had a set like this. I look forward to your videos. Just opened a vintage Etsy shop myself and still getting it stocked. You are one of my inspirations. I also sell quite a bit on eBay. Check out my store www.etsy.com/shop/ShaggyBuffaloGifts .

      Try making a whiskey sour using your bar ware. Or my favorite is an Amaretto Sour. Your furniture is really nice.

    I went to an antique store where I grew up and there were a ton of Edwardian era and Victorian era items....shoes, photos, mirror set, wooden bird cage, etc.
    I havent been lucky enough to find that teacup decor piece or rotary phones

    re the drawer flying out of the chest, I have a similar story, when I had a shop we got a call about buying several 1950's designer pieces, this was in a town about an hour away, it was a good buy with many nice pieces, not cheap because the owners knew what they had, so we packed everything into the truck and started for home, we heard a thud but ignored it, so when we got home a chair was missing (value was around $150) we drove all the way back and it had already been picked up, LOL--yes a learning experience indeed, always tie stuff in a truck bed down!

    When you mentioned the phone being sticky I remember how gross they would get. Can you imagine if you cultured the goo what would turn up? My dad was in the military so living in base housing we had these phones FOREVER. I can remember our phone number in England was #5. Wonderful things. Glad the flea market is yielding some interesting things.

    Most ppl did not have phones...a postcard was 1 or 2 cents...just used, as you said, like we use text messages. Just the facts. Or send a card to cheer someone's day. That was the point, I think. I have my aunt's postcard album from her kindergarten teacher in 1912. She kept things til her death in 1930. Love that form of communication! Smile.

    Irice made perfume items through the 1970s. The Irish lass would have scented pellets in her, she’s a later piece from the 70s. Usually you’ll find crystal perfume bottles with the Irice label. The bar utensil set is from the 1960s, my parents used to have the same one. The long spoon is for stirring cocktails and I think the whisk type utensil is actually a straining reamer, but I could be mistaken. Beautiful Waterfall setand what a bargain!

    I live 5 miles from Sapulpa Oklahoma which is where Frankoma is made. The factory is shut down right now but a Frankoma family member is trying to reopen it.
    I hate Frankoma!! LOL I think it's so ugly! You can't go to a garage sale around here without seeing a ton of it. If you ever come through northeastern Oklahoma you can buy a bunch of Frankoma cheap. Although you will not find a single piece of it at my house. ;)

    Here is my quick way to figure a cost after discount. Don't think of the discount (40) think of what's left (60)
    So 6 times $5.00 is $3.00 price. 6×$7 00 your cost is $4.20 Sounds like an arithmetic lesson..lol just came up with this years ago because i was always trying to figure my cost after discount when cloths shopping and so many dif.discounts. hugh!
    You seem to have a lot of good places to bargain hunting.

    The reason that most of the post cards said crazy short sentences is that it was a cheap way to communicate and they usually wrote to these same friends/family members every day or two! I have hundreds of them from my great aunt on Canada. They are so much fun to read! I love them........and most other vintage things too! 😳😬😊

    Nice finds. The old black phone is Bakelite. It's hard to tell but I always had to do the hot pin and smell test on black because the 409 test doesn't work on black Bakelite all that well. Of course it's safe to assume on the old phones. The bar set is not Bakelite and is missing the mixing glass. And finally YIKES...do not use Brasso on gold filled or anything not brass. Use a jewelry cleaner like Wrights or such. Brasso is too harsh and will ruin the gold plate in no time. And no dip cleaners either...they wreck stuff to by removing some of the surface each time. Dip cleaners are the devil on good jewelry and flatware etc.

    • @RealNiftyVintage
      @RealNiftyVintage  6 років тому

      I'm shocked that those utensils aren't Bakelite.. I could have sworn someone told me they were in another video.. So many conflicting messages! lol. I'm going to look them up to be sure. I always thought they weren't really bakelite and more of a lucite or just plain old plastic. I read the back of brasso and it didn't say not to use on gold. Whoops! Thanks for watching!

    • @paulanull8731
      @paulanull8731 6 років тому

      Yeah another dealer told me about gold and Brasso. Plus showed me some examples. It seems that several uses make the gold and other thin coat products wear way too fast. Brasso is best used on brass from my understanding. About the handles: Use the Bakelite test with 409 to verify if I am right with the plastic handles. I still have some so now I am going to re check them. The are from the mid 60's if my memory is correct. My mother had almost the complete serving set. What I understood was it was heavy and strong like Lucite. Sigh, it is so difficult to keep track of all the elements involved in vintage and thrift selling.
