    Smart going with the 215 tires I guess if 235 rub. Wider is not always better, and it's interesting how they work so well being even one size narrower than stock. But it's a totally different kind of tire. If I did this upgrade, wheels/tires/flaps, I'd want no required modifications, no rubbing, no lift. Seems like you did it.

  • @rallymaster001
    @rallymaster001 6 років тому +1

    Hey Rick, you've put together another great video. Wider mudflaps like the Gorilla ones you installed should protect the paintwork and quieten the noise of stones, etc hitting the side and behind your vehicle.
    You make your modifications look so simple and so quick, especially with the fast forwarded parts, LOL! I have thought of updating my mudflaps, too, to give the car a more aggressive look but wasn't certain of what to do, but now...I do, thanks. I'd love to change up my tyres, too but I'll wait until I need to replace them. With the mileage I'm doing that may not take too long either, ha ha!
    BTW, I enjoyed the music you chose, too!
    Congratulations on having 1k subscribers to your channel, you've earned it by working hard and producing top quality videos. Keep up the great efforts, I certainly enjoy your postings!
    Cheers, Martin

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  6 років тому

      Hey Martin, thank you kindly sir. Much appreciated as always. I wish I could work that fast. :) It was a pretty strait forward install other than the two upper plastic bolts deals on the front. Nothing a pair of cutters couldn't fix ha ha. There are a few companies I checked out when I decided to get the flaps and Gorilla and rokblokz are similarly priced at around $100 U.S. Rally armor at about $150. Gorilla had black or black, :) roxblokz had a variety of colors if you are looking for something to spruce up the car. Rally armor just seemed a bit too expensive for their intended purpose. I just wanted black so Gorilla was my choice. Good choice on waiting for your tires to wear out. I have the stock wheels/tires in my garage and I was planning on using them from time to time on long trips etc. but we shall see. I suppose I could sell them for about $800 or so.
      Thank you for the congrats...it has been a fun journey and I have had the chance to meet some great people along the way....you included. Glad you liked the music and the videos...really means a lot to me. Cheers Martin.

    Hi Rick, thanks a LOT for posting up the videos for the Crosstrek. I've watched them all several times. We may be adding not one, but TWO Crosstreks to the household here. My wife likes them and wants to trade our '15 WRX for a premium red pearl and I'm thinking of selling my truck and picking up an orange limited. :D I'm going to do the same setup you did with your wheel/tire combo and maybe even the same flaps, they look great! Thanks again and really appreciate the insight.

      Hi Archie, thank you very much for letting me know! Mean a lot. Congrats on the new cars coming in and love the color choices. Kind of funny you mention your wife has a WRX and might trade for a Crosstrek, my wife's car is a 17 WRX in Red. :) Good stuff. I am loving the look and performance of the methods and BFG's, but they are louder on the road. I am getting used to it now, but miss my quiet Crosstrek a little. Cheers and let me know if I can help.

    If I owned a Crosstrek mud flaps would be a tough decision for me. I love the functionality of them, but don’t really prefer the way they look. Very clean install though. I think we have the same style preference. I like things to look OEM as possible. Congrats on 1k subs my dude!

    Hi Rick, love watching your videos! I also have a 2018 Crosstrek Limited - have since added the Subaru factory body side moulding, door edge guards, splash guards, and Crosstrek sill plates (the dealer installed all except the sill plates - I did those). Love the vehicle - was considering the new Jeep Compass, but the Subaru bested it in every regard, so the decision was a no-brainer.

    Rick, what are you thoughts on bumper additions? I’ve been shopping for a simple brush guard to help avoid parking dings if I go downtown, add a little extra ruggedness, plus I’m a big fan of lights so I’ll def have to mount a small bar or hella-type lights.

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  6 років тому

      Hey Corey, you know I haven't looked into either of those additions at this point, but have seen a few nice examples. Talaon Sei did this set up that looks nice: ua-cam.com/video/kXpRcLYQ0WY/v-deo.html And alextrek18 did this: ua-cam.com/video/qZTEbDHJKyo/v-deo.html When I was driving out in the desert the other morning to film a little more light would have been nice to see the trail a bit better. I will let you know if I come up with anything. Cheers Corey.

    Nice video as always Rick!! I’m sure you have mentioned it before but, what size are the tires and rims? Just about ready to purchase a crosstrek and really liking your set up! I was on the fence about lifting it. Now I don’t think i want to. I thought you had to to get that look. Glad you did it with out the lift. Let us know about gas mileage when you get more data. Keep the vids coming Rick.
    I actually look forward to the up dates.

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  6 років тому

      Thanks much Bob. tires are 215/75/15 and the wheels are Method race wheels 502 vt spec. If the tire place you buy from, either online or in person, asks if they fit, which I'm sure they will...I was asked at least 3 times from Discount, "Are you sure they fit?" Say yes. No issues at all. Even Method says so. :) Me too still on the lift. No plans to do so anytime soon if ever. Hope to figure out the gas mileage here by next week...only about 1/4 gone from the new tank though. If you have Discount tire where you live they price match and Walmart had the lowest tire price I found at $143/tire. Just want to let you know again that there is definitely a noise change with the new set up.I am getting used to it, but its not the quiet Crosstrek anymore. Cheers.

      Having to put the car up on jack stands took a bit of time, but over all it is fairly straight forward. Those two push pin plastic holder deals up front were a pain for sure. I don't have the right tool for those. Nothing for the washers in the bag. You could take the time to spray paint them black and that would hide them...Thanks for watching, very appreciated. Cheers

      I had the standard Subaru Crossbars on the car along with Yakima fork mounted bike racks that came from Subaru. I bought the bars and racks when I purchased my 2011 STI back in the day. They moved to the Crosstrek and worked great. It looks like Subaru is using Thule now, but they are essentially the same as what I have used for years. • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Dustin. My first Subaru was an 11 STI. Ordered it from the factory and I had wanted one for quite awhile. It was a hatch version so it was actually pretty practical along with being pretty fun. After 3 years it just got kind of tiring to driver everyday being so low to ground and stiff. Don't get me wrong, loved the car but I ended up with a 14 Crosstrek afterwards and even through it was the antithesis of an STI I loved it. It is a tough choice because the cars are so different and offer up different opportunities for fun. :) As you know the Crosstrek is a lot cheaper as well. If it were me and I was planning on an STI right now I would wait for the 20 I think it is. Supposed to be on the new platform and finally have an increase in power. On the other hand the current RA models are really sweet looking. Cheers man and good luck!

      It has been awhile since I did the install, but if I remember correctly it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to get the inner screw in with out removing the wheels/tires. Maybe the local auto zone or similar has loaner stands? You really only need one to do one side at a time. Best of luck.

    I have just received my mud flaps. I have already done the same wheel/tire combo such as yours, Rick. My question is, what kind of capacity jack stands do I need? 3 or 2 tonne? Also for the flat jack.

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  5 років тому

      Hi Mark, I would lean toward getting the 3 ton stands if they are not crazy more expensive. Doesn't hurt to be overly cautions. I just picked up a really nice jack from Costco, low profile, and 3 ton if I remember correctly for about $120. Any decent jack should do fine. Congrats on the mud flaps and the wheels and tires! They really change the character of the car.

    I'm pretty clueless when it comes to car stuff, so this might be a silly question but: I see you have a subaru logo cap on those method wheels. Do the oem logo caps just fit right on no problem (if they are the oems?)? Or do you have to modify something to make them work? Thanks!

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Рік тому +1

      Brett, they are OEM, from an Outback maybe... and they do snap right onto the Method wheels. Some of the early Method wheels needed an extra part to make them fit, but the wheels from last past few years are good to go.

    Hi Rick, I'm a big fan and love the mods on your Crosstrek. I have a 2015 Limited which comes stock 17 inch tires. I bought the same setup you have - the Methods MR502 VT-Spec with 215/75R15 BFG's. I want to get the Gorilla Mud Flaps you installed but I was worried on how little room I have. Since you have a 2018 which comes with 18 inch stock tires I figured your wheel well is larger then my 2015 : ( So my question is if their are any fans on this thread with a similar setup wheels + tires on their Crosstrek that came with 17 inch stock tires that have installed these Gorilla Mud Flaps and if so is their any rubbing in the front tire set ? Much appreciated , keep those mods coming!

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  5 років тому

      Thanks so much my friend. I am not 100% sure about the mud flaps, but I believe you are correct about the larger wheel wells on the 18. Hopefully someone will give you some input about the possibility of rubbing.

    • @jara20001
      @jara20001 5 років тому

      Hi Rick,.. So I tried installing one front flap to test the fit. I'm sad to report that with my setup (Methods + BFG's) on my vehicle it's a no go. When turning the tire completely the inner screw (that holds in place the Gorilla Flap) touches. I also cut off a small inner portion of the flap due to rubbing but the screw is the issue. I'm thinking the rears may be fine so I'm SOOL for the front. I'll report back on the rear when I test that part of the install... Cheers! (PS... These front flaps may still work when I put my smaller winters on next winter,... I'll have to test the front again then)

    Did your stock mud guards rub on your wheel/tire combo at all before this? I’m looking at same combo but car I’m taking delivery of has mudguards already installed, wondering if I should make them take them off to accommodate the method/BFg combo. Thanks!

    I put Gorilla mud flaps on my 2018 Crosstrek too, it's also the same color but mines the premium model. Have you noticed a slight drop in your MPG? Seems I lost about 1 mpg and it was really noticeable when I first had them adjusted all the way out. I was also getting slight noise adjusted all the way out but I figured it was because I still have stock tires and they don't stick out as far as yours does. After adjusting them all the way in things got quiet and mpg was slightly better. Love what you're doing to your ride so far and hope you put a lift on it!

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  6 років тому

      Hi Marc, thank you very much for the feedback and for watching the vids. I don’t have a full tank of gas through the car yet following the wheels and tires, but it’s looking like my mpg will be down about 2mpg. I’ll put up an update here in a few days. Hard to tell if the flaps effects the mileage at all since I put them on just a few days after the wheels/tires. No plans for a lift as of yet, but it’s a possibility. Are you thinking of lifting yours? Cheers Marc

    • @mdeanwatson
      @mdeanwatson 6 років тому +1

      Yes, I've thought about doing it but it'll be a while before I did. My next investment will be getting better floor mats. I'll probably go with Husky because they cover behind the pedals better then what WeatherTech does. I'm also thinking about wrapping my hood and a few other things in black. Just trying to make it stand out even though I'm the only one in my area with a cool grey khaki crosstek, haha.

      Hi Bryan, the only possible issue I have head people speak of is the +15 offset of the Method wheels possibly causing premature wheel bearing failure. Hi James, I do not currently have a lift on the car, but will be putting on a 1.5 inch from LP aventure here soon. I do have RalliTEK 1" springs on the car currently, which gave me about an inch in back and about 1/2" of lift in the front. The extra weight of the bar and skid plate are limiting the extra lift I think. If you are going to do starts and a lift it will definitely save you some time by doing them at the same time! I get to repeat my strut/spring removal when I finally do my lift. Congrats on your Crosstrek and have fun!

    The XV looks good. You have install offroad-tires and mud flaps. Want you go in mud offroad?
    Why did you decided for the XV ? Why not a Wrangler or a 4Runner ? What is reason ?

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  6 років тому +2

      Thank you higher 8. I go out off road a few times a year. Sometimes just to drive around and check out the scenery, other times to camp, target shoot, explore etc. Not sure if you watched my Reddington Pass video, but I had a little tire issue I think caused by the short sidewall on the stock 18 inch wheels. Threw on the Methods and AT tires to protect against that happening again. We don't get a lot of mud here in Tucson, but we have lots of sand, rocks, cactus and dirt. :) I put the flaps on to protect the paint because the Wheels/tires stick out beyond the wheel well now.
      Funner you mentioned a Wrangler and 4 runner because I have owned both in the past. I had a Rubicon for a few years but it was terrible on gas at a time gas was over $350 a gallon here, was noisy, and just wasn't all that great day to day. Off road it was incredible...a tank. My 4 runner wasn't a 4wd unfortunately and the new ones are too big and too expensive to take off road. The Crosstrek is a great combination of everything I want in a daily driver. Comfortable, a good set of features, quiet, great on gas, can carry my Bike, camping gear etc, and is pretty off road capable for a little car. Cheers and thank you for watching. Hope you are well.
