  • I'm not a wealthy man by any standard. Without the forbearance of my local scrap dealer I wouldn't be able to embark upon half the mental stuff I'm getting up to.
Go see your local scrappie, they're top blokes!!!

I was stuck on the idea of using a beer keg until I started watching your videos. Now I just need to teach myself to weld...and save up for a welder;-) Also, I hope you do turn it into a steam jacket boiler. I've never seen a video of anyone building one, so I know the hobby distilling community would be very interested. On-grain distilling is a tempting (if unreachable) goal for most hobby level folks.

      Heya Bearded,
Yep - been real interested in on-grain distilling myself … you just KNOW theres more/extra flavours in that stuff yeah? … just need to be able to get to it! :o)
Mate having access to a welder is golden.
A small 185/200amp TIG is probably the best option for distilling/brewing applications. It makes so much more stuff possible.
      Happy Distilling!

Heya Kev', I have a swivel head radar now that's tuned to stainless steel.
Milk tanker drives past and I'm wondering how much wash I could ferment out in it, … you know, normal stuff, not obsessed at all. :o)

Heya driekus, … more videos haha, … I'll get them edited and posted at some stage!
Looking around at moving house at the moment and finding somewhere I can build a workshop/distillery in as well as accommodation, rum videos will get edited at some stage. :)

How do you clean the inside? Did it have chemicals or just water in it.

G'day Bob, it was an old pressure air filter of some kind.
Inside of it is coated with the carbon/silica dust/filtering material that was packed into the filter-pods.
Cleaning it will probably just be a water soluble cleaner affair, I can't detect any oily residues of any kind.
May even have the inside soda-blasted when I come to clean up the outside as well (will soda-blast off the heavy painted hammerite coating).
If it ends up operating as a steam generator/low-pressure boiler and never comes into contact with alcohol product it's even less of an issue.
      Happy Distilling!
