Wix vs Squarespace - I've Used Both, Which One is Best?

- I've made tutorials on both Wix and Squarespace. This breakdown is based on ACTUAL experience using both for blogging, ecommerce, domains and email marketing. The main differences are found in the website builders between the two.
If I had to pick one, I personally would go with Squarespace. I simply like the design, email marketing integration and the platform more. However, Wix has a lot of strong selling points. Better ecommerce functionality, built in drop shipping integration and more control over the design and layout of your website and each individual page.

00:00 Intro
I've used both of these platforms, here is my take on them after creating websites and online stores with both.
00:32 Website builder
This is a big difference between the two platforms. Squarespace is a structured editor. You add sections to your website and can adjust the content in the sections. Wix is totally un-structured and allows you to move elements on the page anywhere you like. Sort of like Google Sites, except way more powerful and feature rich. So if you want full control over the design of your site go with Wix. The cons of this are that you can make a really poorly designed website with Wix.
02:31 Domain names
Both website builder platforms allow you to register a domain through them. Each offers a domain name for free for the first year. After, Squarespace charges $20 a year with WHOIS protection included. Wix charges $15 a year and charges $10 extra for WHOIS protection.
I suggest just using a domain name registrar like Namecheap. Lower prices than both and free WHOIS protection. Last, it's way easier to setup Squarespace with Namecheap than Wix.
03:46 Blogging
Both platforms are well designed for blogging. Wix allows you more control over the individual design of your blog posts and blog post page and comes with the ability to content lock your content under a paid subscription.
05:28 Ecommerce
Squarespace and Wix are fine if you want to sell digital downloads like an ebook or a handful of physical products. Where they differ is that Wix is much better drop shipping due to their Modalyst integration and Squarespace is better for coaching and consulting. If ecommerce is the main thing you want to do I would instead go with Shopify or WooCommerce. But each builder is fine for adding ecommerce functionality. Wix offers a bit more flexibility in this area.
10:49 Pricing
Squarespace has the better price points. With their plans you also get access to ecommerce functionality. Wix has a set of website plans an ecommerce plans. The ecommerce plans are more expensive than Wix. The website plans don't allow for any ecommerce so even if you just want to sell an ebook with a Wix site, you'll have to upgrade your account.
12:21 Final thoughts
Both are great, it just depends on what you want to do!

#squarespace #wix
Thank you! I'll be going with Wix because I love how much more flexible it is with design elements.
Thank you, very informative 🙏
i found it weird how you kept saying that designing a wix website would be harder since it's more customisable.... you can literally choose to keep the original theme design and just input your own text and images.
actually, i couldn't find a single squarespace template that i liked, even though their USP is their themes :// it only showed me 1 page of templates, and at the bottom there was a link to their old templates. i found that a lot of the templates looked the same, they seemed to be recycled with different fonts and colour schemes.
i'm setting up a website for a family member and found this gorgeous wix theme called adalene. it looks so sophisticated, elegant and perfect for the vibe they're going for. i also LOVE that you can add video on the homepage for free, and how you can really customise the look you're going for.
i clicked on this video wanting to hear which platform had better seo. does anyone have experience they could share?
i'm heavily leaning towards wix since a lot of reviews show that they have step by step instructions to guide you through making the website. a lot of reviews also say that apparently wix's seo is better than squarespace's. i really hope that's true.
I agree. I was also thinking if Wix is so customizable, couldn’t someone make their Wix website look like a squarespace site in design?
Im most likely going with Wix too.
So i'm currently using Squarespace but I want to transfer my Domain name to Namecheap to avoid having transfer issues if I want to move my site to a different builder in the future (i want to transfer from Squarespace to Wix). Do you have any tips on transferring my domain to Namecheap? The website looks extremely intimidating when I click "transfer" lol
Yes, I have another tutorial on the process, it's quite simple: ua-cam.com/video/qsFiYbuD4wg/v-deo.html
Silly to make a point about $20 vs $25 dollars per year, if that's material to your business than there are other issues that you should worry about.
True 😂
Great video. Just thought I'll point out that there's a stark difference in pricing for different countries. Here in India, Wix is incredibly cheap.
As of today, a business plan in Squarespace is $23, while Wix costs $2. One year of Wix costs the same as one month of squarespace.
Hmm i wonder it i use a vpn to set to India before i sign up if itl give me lower prices
@@henchnerd9404 did it work?
So over the past few years I've created blogs and stores with both platforms. It's a tough call, but I prefer Squarespace. Subscribe for more videos.
Do any of them work slow after hundreds of videos
what is your recommendation for a website builder that allows you to link affiliate links in a nice neat and tidy way?
Recently my domain has been taken by somone. How can i get it back
ask them. maybe pay them.
How did they get it? You didn't renew or they completely stole it?
ANYTHING but Bluehost! Worst ever.
Why, what's been your issues with Bluehost?
@@DavidUtke I just tested my website again using GTMetrix. The homepage is only 543 kb, yet it takes a whopping 7.5 SECONDS to load the full page. I've worked with Bluehost customer service and they are unable to resolve the issue. They admit that the page is optimized as much as it can be, but they don't have a solution. The problem is that Bluehost jams too many users per shared server. Two of my websites are hosted by Bluehost. The first one is a little slow, but not horrible (2s load), but the second is the 7.5 second dog. I'm wondering if they throttle down the speed with each additional website you create. I would avoid Bluehost like the plague if your subscribers are shopping around.
@@espedale I had the same problem with Bluehost. 8 seconds for my site to load. It was ridiculous.
@@ArtisticMysticSoul It’s a TERRIBLE host! The only reason it gets so much good press is because these guys get huge affiliate commissions for recommending Bluehost on their YT channels.
@@espedale thanks!!
I want to start selling about 5 shirts. You think wix is the best one for this. Later if i grow i can change to another platform. im not a coder so i need drag and drop.
