Hello Mikko, greetings from Peru!!!.... congratulations for your great an innovative project. I really love your work. Like all others of your videos, this one ran away very fast. It lasts like 20min , but it seemed like 2. Thanks for sharing your ideas and I hope to see another video soon.... cheers
Cool build, where your fishing looks very similar to the pinebarens of NJ USA, we have pike there in cedar water, the similar color...sort of a tea colored water
Great work ! The area you are fishing is so bieautiful compare to France ☹️ By the way, where did you find the "box" where you put some little balls for make some noise into the water ? Did you make them by yourself or you find them on the web ?
im sure there are some beautiful areas to fish in france too. the little pods are called rattle chaimbers, i got them for free to be tested but you can find similar from ebay too.
Hi again, Mikko. I really liked your use of the pine cone--just as much as your choice of pine BARK in another one of your outstanding videos. But, I didn't see ANY information or footage relating to the tail you chose and installed on the pine-cone bait. Did I miss it? When you were trying out this bait on pike, it looked as if you used a soft-plastic tail of some sort, but I could be wrong because there weren't any close-ups of the finished lure when you were casting and retrieving it. Not a big deal; I'm just curious about that tail. Best, Chris C.
The paddle tail i added was from an old project that i made years ago. Didnt think it was that necessary to show it off here since further the thumpnail to the video shows it pretty clearly.
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just so you know , the 64 idiots who gave you a thumbs down probably don't hate your video , as much as their pathetic selves ! Your work is 100% outstanding !
Hey Man, love these vids. a bath in some kind of sealant for the pine cone might help longevity, but you're probably making this plug for looks as opposed to fishing. reverse on the drill is a great way to fine tune a depth mark, also good for breaking thru something likely to splinter, vinyl, epoxy, and accurate start holes into resin. Someone get this man a lathe w/ extension and a full outfit of tools, safety gear, dupe, with dust collection and ventilation and a worksmart knife sharpener! Did you taper the tail of the lure to match a tail you pour?
your correct, its much better to use single hooks how ever its much harder to hook a fish with one and i kinda wanted to make sure i had all the chances to get some fish action on camera
d rouse I did post a photo in my Instagram of the thumpnail picture that you see in the video. So I suppose you could zoom into that and get a closer look.
Nice work. Next time try moving the fish forwards and backwards. You need to get some water running through its gills and then it should return to consciousness rather quickly.
moving fish back and forth will cause them more stress and disorients them, letting them recover and let them breath on their own is much better for their survival, this is what most wild life conservation agencies suggest that you do.
i did in the past, it didn't really seem that people cared for those too much. but i do think i will try to do a outro in my build videos where i actually go out and try to catch something
SolarBaits like a one fish on each bait challenge that you haven't caught any on. Or something like that would be really cool in my opinion. But I do love the videos! Inspired me to keep making baits
Great work in the lure mate, I’m truly inspired by that. My only criticism is the use of a pike gag. You may get a lot of harsh comments from British pike anglers as they gag is seriously frowned upon over here because of the damage it can do to a pikes mouth
the pike gag (or what we call jaw spreader) criticism is understandable. my justification in using one is that the time i need to spend on trying to get the hooks out is greatly redused by the use of a gag, and the less time a pike is out from the water in these hot summer days, the greater chances it has to survive. im curious is there any studies done that indicate that the gags are harmful to the fish?
SolarBaits I honestly can’t say if there’s been any studies. I’ve seen so many Facebook groups hating and slating the use of them and the anger that goes with it is horrible. I see your point for using it and I will say it was very quick. I personally won’t slander others for it. I was just pointing out you might get a lot of angry people having a go at you. Any way keep up the awesome work mate 👍🏼
i remember reading studies that were done in Sweden and Finland about the mortality rate of pike from a sport fishing standpoint and how it effects them in general. the number one reason for them loosing their life was tributed to the time that they are out from the water so i try to work as fast as i can and have all of my tools ready and handy and the jaw spreader does seem to help alot. btw i dont use it with bigger pikes cos you can pry their jaws open much easier when using the liplock grip as im sure you know, and get the hooks out easilly and fast, its just really hard to use with smaller pikes like in the video when you cant really use the body weight of the fish as leverage.
Wow !!! Wow ... WOOOOOOW how the fuck did you got that freaking awesome idea !?!?!?!? I am so amazed. So nice to see your work, always tons of pleasure. Just a thing but, you did not showed us the final result with epoxy layers. But its a reaaaaally nice bait ! GG Oh and by the way i did not saw the video description but what are the noise making things that you put into ??? Thaaaanks
i cant take the full credit for comming up with this, i saw in instagram little while ago someone doing a knife handle with similar way and thought that looks interesting i bet no one has ever made a lure with a similar style. also i did not see any point in showing off what the final epoxy layer looks like ( i put 3 of then btw) cos its not really relevant to the video. thanks for watching ;)
SolarBaits Not the layers but just the bait after the three layers to show the final result. And for the noise making stuff ? What do you use ?? I am looking for stuff for my baits and yours seem to be cool ;)
it looks like any other bait after 3 layers of epoxy so i didnt thing it was nesary. the rattle chaimbers i had on this bait were givent to me by another lure maker to test out you can probably find something very similar from ebay if you search for rattle chaimbers
love your videos but pleas stop drilling in your hand! lol I use to do this and the drill bit broke with little pressure and I drilled right throw my thumb before I new what happen.
just paranoid when i see others doing now lol i make prosthetics and I was just holding a bit of plastic barely put any pressure on the drill and the bit broke and poof right throw my thumb haha wasn't the funnest experience. Thank you for your videos
Nope, the cones used in the video were spruce cones. Just go and google some images on how pine and spruce cones look like, a dead give away is that spruce cones are much longer compared to pine cones and also you can see quite clearly in the video that im picking them under a spruce.
It's not your imagination unfortunately the segments that are filmed in the beginning and at the end with my action camera do have a distinctive whine in the background.
SolarBaits I personally do not like jaw spreaders for I believe they hurt the fish and I try not to pinch their gills. Some people argue that pinching their gills does not harm the fish but I have seen dead fish or dying fish that look to have full damage from what I suspect to be from that. I try to hold them inside the gill under all of it so I do not get cut and use the middle of my thumb to carefully pry the fishes mouth open
SolarBaits maybe you did not actually man handle the fish but that is what it looked like from my point of view but it wasn’t as bad as what I have some people do. Otherwise Keep up the good work. Love the Chanel!
i had little back and forth about the use of a jaw spreader in the comments earlier, which is a good conversation to to have. The ones i have are pretty weak, the force they excert is little over 1 kilo and i use them usually only on small fish, with bigger pike its much easier to use their own weight as leverage to help open up the jaw when you chin them with the lip lock grip as i'm sure you know. My justification for using the jaw spreaders is that it allows me to work much faster and get the hooks out, especially in the summer time when the water temps are high it's important to try and minimize the time fish are out from the water if you intend to let them go. Also i think when the fish are small like the ones in the video are its probably not a good idea to stick your fingers near the their gills incase they go nuts and start thrashing around, remember there is not a lot of room there between your finger and the gills and it might cause them damage. also excellent point about the pinching the gills, you might have missed it in the video but once the pike was in the water i made sure to open the gills with my fingers just to make sure that they did not get stuck as they sometimes might if you use too much force.
Nothing wrong about the way you handled the fish, but as you said It has been an extremely hot summer for us in the Nordic countries, so a lot of fish have troubles coping when released back in to the water. Surface temperatures in the water of 20-25C are absolutely not optimal for pike, and if they don't get down to colder water very quickly, they don't make it. I had two perch that where not up for long come up again, belly up after a few minutes this summer, something that has never happened to me before.
Wow! After watching you make baits it really inspires me to try. You rock. Thank you for making it LOOK easy.
thank you gregg i just do what comes naturally to me
How beautiful that bait turned out great work Mikko .
Man of man, as fast as you were sanding that lure I thought it was going to burst into flames! LOL Nice job and keep'em coming.
Awesome work, glad the pike survived!
Hello Mikko, greetings from Peru!!!.... congratulations for your great an innovative project. I really love your work. Like all others of your videos, this one ran away very fast. It lasts like 20min , but it seemed like 2. Thanks for sharing your ideas and I hope to see another video soon.... cheers
see you in the next video antonio ;)
I love the use of the rotisserie. Thanks for the inspirational videos dude.
Nice work! I have used the same technique to make handles for knives.
thats where i got the idea, ran accross some knifemakers in instagram and saw them using spruce and pine cones in knice handles
Beautiful man! Cheers!
Cool build, where your fishing looks very similar to the pinebarens of NJ USA, we have pike there in cedar water, the similar color...sort of a tea colored water
Good Job,Solar !!!
Thats awesome!!! You should make another with clear resin!!
actually have been thinking of doing something like that
Beautiful and practical!
great idea to use whats laying in the woods and catch fish with it. I am going to have to try this out sometime.
you definitely should give it a shot, the effect is quite cool
Very cool! I wonder how "Rock Hard water putty" would work for pouring the mold. Have you ever tried it?
cant say i have but the fact that it's a putty tells me that it might not be ideal for casting anything similar to what i did here.
incredible work of art, so you used two different half spruce cone resin fills? Then glue them together
Yep thats right
too cool man. even better when the fish grab a hold. be safe
Another work of art.
Hi Marty.
And Cheers Marty! haha
awesome as usual, kickass effect.
Got em in the gill, nothing you can do it happens. Good lure, looks great.
Thanks for this video. You're the best.
Great work ! The area you are fishing is so bieautiful compare to France ☹️ By the way, where did you find the "box" where you put some little balls for make some noise into the water ? Did you make them by yourself or you find them on the web ?

Yes we have some, but they are really rare for pike :/
And thank you :)

Another beautiful bait. Love the videos.
wow man nice lure, and i loveee that u have the right tools to unhook these fish bc I've heard they can be very annoying, big props, 18:17
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you use balsa wood? if so, where do you buy it? I´m in Helsinki, and I can´t find any :(
very nice top raider/whopper plopper style bait
Can you make something with eucalyptus ?
-its a bad wood for carving ?
i actually dont know if its good or bad wood for lure carving, its not something you see here up north too often and if you do its hella expensive
SolarBaits I collect some dying inches from the forest the last month maybe will be the same . Awesome channel .
Make one out of a dried dog turd. You can call it Scoobys' doo!
looks like you should switch to inline single hooks, treble hooks are not the best choice for catch and release fishing.
your correct, its much better to use single hooks how ever its much harder to hook a fish with one and i kinda wanted to make sure i had all the chances to get some fish action on camera
Great looking lure!!!! What kind of rosin did you used?
i used resin called form cast burro but any brand will do im sure
SolarBaits thanks brother... Huge fan of your work!
Was there ever a close-up of the finished lure?
d rouse I did post a photo in my Instagram of the thumpnail picture that you see in the video. So I suppose you could zoom into that and get a closer look.
That is one awesome bait!
Nice work dude! keep it up.
WOW!!!!! amazing skills!!!
I just saw a small hole in the back of the fish you were fishing. like that fish has been hit with a kind of speargun or something like that...!!!????
i doubt it was from a spear gun, no one uses those here or even bow fishes, so i'm guessing its just some natural damage.
ok.. good.. sorry for being mistaken
Nice work. Next time try moving the fish forwards and backwards. You need to get some water running through its gills and then it should return to consciousness rather quickly.

You make lure making an art form! 👊☺👍
thanks man just try my best here thats all ;)
I.enjoy the video, Great bait!
what type of resin is that? what is it called?
Nimmi Mankame form cast burro
Great Ideal!!! Robert USA
Make a vacuum chamber. And pu the cone and epoxy in there. Have a lot better results
Brilliant
Where did you get that knife?
local hardware store
brilliant vid
Always brilliant !!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!! C&R \m/
wow! that lure was cool! i have make one for my self! :D nice work! // MAD pike lures
awesome if you do end up doing it tag me in instagram or facebook, you can find them on my bio page here.
yes! good thing we live i the north! lots of trees! :P
You should do some videos of you fishing with your lures
i did in the past, it didn't really seem that people cared for those too much. but i do think i will try to do a outro in my build videos where i actually go out and try to catch something
SolarBaits like a one fish on each bait challenge that you haven't caught any on. Or something like that would be really cool in my opinion. But I do love the videos! Inspired me to keep making baits
when that drill bit goes through your hand you will have a hard time fishing
tpledger100 don't worry I'm a professional
nice lure
i personally prefer life like lures :)
me too usually but its fun to do these odd looking ones too and mix it up once in a while
Great work in the lure mate, I’m truly inspired by that.

vraiment magnifique
merci beaucoup
Nice job I want one
Respect!!!
if you done the 2 sides other way you would have scales ready made also.
can you elaborate a little bit on what you mean by that?
yes when you cut the pine cone and had 2 halfs the inside halves looked like scales run through the video they look good also.Atb,Ray
your right, i guess they kinda do in a away look like scales
What country do you live in?
i live in Finland
Very nice I like. Thanks for sharing. God bless
thanks for watching danny ;)
Sweden? I know europe is having a rough summer and Sweden has all those wildfires.
if your asking where i'm from. i'm from Finland
Wow !!! Wow ... WOOOOOOW how the fuck did you got that freaking awesome idea !?!?!?!? I am so amazed. So nice to see your work, always tons of pleasure.

Wow
Pas mal le leurre très efficace mais vous devriez écraser vos ardions car il a failli ne pas repartir quand même
why are you use i box cutter ?! does i real knife not work better for u ?
i used it because it was just handy at the time.
i understand that :) the work just gets easier with a god carving knife. BTW I rly like the Lure you made.
love your videos but pleas stop drilling in your hand! lol I use to do this and the drill bit broke with little pressure and I drilled right throw my thumb before I new what happen.
i have never come even close to drilling my hand so i guess im just used to doing it at this point
just paranoid when i see others doing now lol i make prosthetics and I was just holding a bit of plastic barely put any pressure on the drill and the bit broke and poof right throw my thumb haha wasn't the funnest experience. Thank you for your videos
Хочу купить этот воблер!!!
Ihan huikeata taidetta taas Mikko (y)
joskus tulee ihan hyviäkin idiksiä :D
SolarBaits mitä ainetta kaadoit muottiin? komea viehe
se on nestemmäistä muovia nimeltään formcast burro
SolarBaits kiitos, pitänee koittaa
I'm sorry i can't stop looking at that perfectly smooth head of yours......what did you say?
Piné coné
Nope, the cones used in the video were spruce cones. Just go and google some images on how pine and spruce cones look like, a dead give away is that spruce cones are much longer compared to pine cones and also you can see quite clearly in the video that im picking them under a spruce.
SolarBaits pronounce my previous comment, with an italian accent.
Anyone else hear a loud whining sound?
It's not your imagination unfortunately the segments that are filmed in the beginning and at the end with my action camera do have a distinctive whine in the background.
Ah gotcha. I appreciate the response!
The lure was very nice but the first pike is dead. You man handled that fish and there is no way it survived. You should have kept it
i didnt feel like i man handled the pike but i guess you can never be 100% sure. what should have i done differently in your oppinion?
SolarBaits I personally do not like jaw spreaders for I believe they hurt the fish and I try not to pinch their gills. Some people argue that pinching their gills does not harm the fish but I have seen dead fish or dying fish that look to have full damage from what I suspect to be from that. It’s good content, but waaay too slow editing for me.
