Thanks for the tutorial on the your Smelt lure. I just finished my first ever carving of a Striper. Your carving of the master smelt pattern has given some good ways to finish my new speckled trout carving. I have looked at all of you videos for the last few years and have gotten many great ideals! Hello Mikko, greetings from Peru again... after watching your video and passion that you put on your work I have to say that it was awesome. I really enjoyed a lot the time that I spent last night watching this video. Every detail was recorded step by step when carving the piece of wood to convert it into an incredible lure for your mold. Seriously I will try to began to do some of these soft lures following the process, which I realize that I will love it. I have already found and bought the resins here in Lima some weeks ago, so I'm almost ready to do my tries. After doing my first messes, I will look for you to get some tips to fix my mistakes. Please, let me congratulate for your unique and extraordinary work...
Hey I was wondering if you have ever tried using alginate to make your parting line for the two part molds instead of claying up the first mold side? I found this material very helpful for speeding up my 2 part molds.
HAHAHAH! Your humor is so awesome! Really enjoy your videos and commentary. Its a little bit off topic, what is the background music?? its so good! Please say you or someone you know makes it. Around 10 minutes. Great music and great lure making!
@@SolarfallBaits Thats okay, it was a long time ago. you have good music tase as well as taste baiting. ;) Im a handmade lure maker from Australia, would love to swap some tips and lures. is there any chance you would be interested??

Yes itd plastisol the type of paints i use dont require dipping you just paint and go fishing with the baits. In case your wondering what paints they are i use cab coatings soft paints.
This is my favorite of your videos. How long is this bait? Im working on a 20cm smelt myself. As sort of a "perfect size" baitfish, or a big downsize lure. Would love to know the weight and lenght of this one.
Thanks james i have a feeling those dislikes are from my number one fans aka trolls. when your in the game as long as i have you get a few of those on the way.
Enjoyed watching your video. It hurts to see you carving with a craft knife. They are not really very sharp, so I am impressed what you can do with something I consider junk, as it relates to carving. Wonderful inspiring lures.
The craft knife is use has changeable blades that are extremely sharp to a point where you could probably do surgery with them if you wanted to, i prefer them over everything else i've tried thru out the years while making lures.
@@sixeladel7275 ah you mean an air vent. There are air vents for the fins that i made later on. I forget if they show up in the video or not ( im too lazy to check lol)
@@SolarfallBaits ok, you did it big you're event?, I like your way to run by the tail I have to try, because I run back my lure back, with a simple mold shell puts the plastic retracts a lot at the back
Also maybe you have some input... I'm trying to create a mold of an old soft plastic swimbait that isn't made anymore. It's got a few small fins on it, and I'm having trouble capturing them along with all of the detail in the bait. Is there a certain type of silicone I should be using for a job like this?
Super inspiring and an awesome lure by the looks of it! Did you clear coat the Master in any way, or did you just fine sand it, before you poured the mold?

No wood was used in the making of this lure.

Can you liken it to carving balsa? Or a harder wood? Just curious as to the ease of using it. But you're welcome!
this stuff comes in various densities, the kind i have is very close to hardwood like birch
hmm do you know the hardness? i have checked on the website and i don't which one to choose: www.obo-werke.de/en/products/obomodulanr-pu-boards.html
Ales Horvat im quite sure mine is 500 dencity
What rod and reel did you use?
Hey have you ever thought of using smooth on ecoflex 00-30 for soft baits it's a soft stretchy tough silicone. Iv just ordered some to try
actually never heard of that stuff, might be worth looking into for plastisol
Apparently it's on par with the plastic zman make their baits from

where this paint is primed?
tell me what paint paint?
What do you use to clean your softbaits before painting them?
Glenn Goovaerts dish washing soap

2.50- it would probably go faster if you use a rasp to shape it and then clean it off with the dremel thingy. But you seem to like that thing :))
Love the video awesome job that swimbaits got talent
Do you sell them baits or have you thought about it. I would love to get my hands on some. I would definitely buy some
sometimes but not very often. i usually do that in my facebook group (solarfallbaits finland) or on ebay
Love watching your video. Is that actually pieces of Lego used for your mold frame?
Unfortunately, I discarded my Lego sets more than 40 years ago.
yep those are legos, i was fortunate to grow up with them so i get to play with them in my adult years too
So amazing bro..good job..
Can you please tell me what the material is your carving on I cant catch what you are calling it?
Obo modulan. Wood is perfectly acceptable as well i just had this lying around so i decided to use it
Ever thought about mounting your jigsaw upside down so you can use it like a bandsaw?
I have thought about it how ever it might be little too dangerous
This might be a 2yr old video, but still a great learning piece
Thoroughly enjoyed.
Is it possible to purchase some of the molds that you do?
No i dont sell them, its not hard to do them anyway as you see from the video
do you have a channel called skallgrim as you both sound the same?
Im subbed to his channel im not the same guy though lol
Hey Mikko please add a link where i can buy that material You use.Regards
unfortunately the stuff that i'm using is as far as i remember only sold to companies, i got it thru a friend of mine who has access to it.
What kind of wood did you use for this bait?
Its not wood but a synthetic material called obo modulan. It's only available for industry use as far as i know
How did you learn how to do this stuff?
i guess same as everyone else who makes lures, trial and error and researching what others people did before me.
What # OBO Modulan are you using?
I'm using the one that's has 500 density
