what stabs are you using in this build?
Here before kadeli acount
Try sheets of window gel as a case filler. Or anywhere you might use silicone.
Kilmat in the space bar I love it :D
A clacky Hipyo Board? With tactile switches and no foam? No way! A nice change of pace, and this one definitely sounds better foamless. The foam made it sound way flatter IMO. Glad to see the budget-premium price point is here to stay as well. Shoutout to Nola for the assistance too!
Now imagine explaining this to somone whos never built a keyboard and their thinking to whole time: ok but why would you do this to begin with 😂😂
😅
Me. I didn’t even hear the difference to be completely honest
First time I mentioned lubing keyboard switches to my boss. Instant face of disgust. Then I had to explain, and it was weird.
@@Bigb00bs_umchileanywaysso same when i started out but when you actually try it yourself you can never go back
That's me. But I feel that growing thought in me to build one and try these things.
I’m happy that you are starting to show different sound profiles and that the foam is not everytime the way
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo you are the best!
Thank you, Nola, for helping out Hipyo. You are the best!
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo. You are the best!
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo, you are the best
thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo ❤ you are the best!
I'm super happy whenever there are tactile switches in a Hipyo video
Thank you Nola for helping out hipyo you are the best
so happy you seen this and did a video. did a lot of research and came to this board for my first custom keyboard. happy i bought it before your video
Thank you, Nola, for helping out Hipyo, you are the best!
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo you are the best! 🥰
I love the Zoom sound as well! I have the Zoom65. I've been trying to get that sound profile in other keyboards.
hey Hipyo!! Excellent, as always! Honestly, I can't decide! Keep delivering good content!!! Regards from Brazil!!!
Plate forks really need to be more common. You can build in flexy plates without foam or standoffs without issue. Also it just makes it easier.
Nice job on this board. It ended up sounding great. But I do have to say, that Zoom75 at the beginning had a much more pleasing sound profile.
@yaphet stephan natanael no way, really?
@yaphet stephan natanael You're correct. Subjectivism can't be argued with.
Regarding the caps: I’ve found these listed as MSA as well as CSA and my research indicates that they are the same. I have several sets and I really like them. Some vendors have a lower case k in the word capslock, so be careful of that if it may bother you. One of my favorite profiles.
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo you are the best
Ohhhhh. that sounds really good both ways but i gotta try that on my board now. brb removing foam! also good job Nola helping hippyo!
I really like the build! it sounds really good. but i don't think i could get used to typing with the higher profile keycaps. just to tall and flat lol
Omg man, I'm watching your build as I'm looking down at my board with those same keycaps and ws heavy black switches😂.
I just built a custom Single-Switch housing out of a old credit card, connected a led and a switch to it, soldered it and use it as PWR-LED and PWR-SWitch on my motherboard now. It was so fiddly to solder but it sounds great!
You forgot to mention that the PCB is a flex cut. That can dramatically alter the sound and feel as well.
You got me with this title. I literally just finished building my own keyboard with foam. I was ready to start flipping tables until I watched lol
Same
My thoughts before even watching the video:
I use varying amounts of foam in my keyboards to tune to the sound that I want. Some keyboards, such as my Ginkgo65 and Keychron Q10, have all the foams (PE, Plate, PCB, Case). Whereas my XD87 and MonsGeek M1 have either only PE/Plate foam and no case foam. It's all about tuning the sound of the case if it's a nice sound, or dampening the sound of the case/switches if they have some undesirable characteristics/frequencies. One foam I refuse to not use is PE foam. I believe all keyboards should have PE foam as I have yet to find a switch that doesn't sound better with it. I also think PE foam makes the most sound difference out of all the style of foams.
Thoughts after watching the video:
Sounds like this keyboard is a lot like my MonsGeek M1. It sounds so much better with no PCB/case foam as it allows the sounds to resonant and open up more.
Also, thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo, you are indeed the bestest internet kitty.
what microphone do you use? I need a rly cheap microphone for keyboard sound tests and recording pc building.
I have the same keycaps from Amazon but it BOW. They're really nice and I like them a lot so far. The tops are decently larger than what I'm used to so still taking some getting used to.
thank you nola for helping out hipyo you are the best

Thank you Nola for helping Hipyo you are the best
ps this is my first video of yours that i watched.
I went from boba prototype switches to WS slient linears and these are amazing prelubed!
0:11 Hipyo: be-traying us!
(is the pun intended)
Hi Hipyo. I like to check. What type of switches u recommend keyboard? Prefer linear switches preferred. I cannot decide. But i mostly will lubbed it
Just ordered this board - hoping to build my first Thoccy keyboard.... though noticed I will need stabilisers. Any recommendations?
Awesome video as always.
What are these key caps called on Amazon? I can’t find them
YOOOO THE JET LAG ON THE MONITOR IS BANGERRR!!!!
Wow that does sound really nice without the foam. Wish mine did that...
I really like those gks csa keycaps. I think keychron's newer cherry profile doubleshot pbt keycaps are made by that same manufacturer
Im happy to see a popular content creator exploring the different sides of keyboard sounds and feel. Id be excited to see you do a comparison between a budget and higher end board, e.g. F1-8X
Great content and happy to see variety 🎉
hipyo top mount arc?
@@scufed already had one of those haha
I would like to see a comparison without foam and with tape mod
Ps: thank you Nola
I like MSA keycaps. I can type very fast on them. I admit I don't love the way they look, though. I''m surprised the spacebar is not too heavy with Kilmat in it.
Not sure if you've come across them yet, but there's a really budget mechanical keyboard brand that they sell with "mods" included. Maybe give it a try? It's the Langtu GK85. I got mine for around 28 usd. Fair warning though, the board has a really weird spacebar. It's 6u in size but all the 6u spacebars I've tried won't fit on it because of the weird alignment. I only found out because I tried to change the keycaps and the usual 6.25u spacebars are too large. Also the bottom row keys are all 1u in size.
Those keycaps look very similar to the caps that came with my dustsilver pre-built keyboard
thank you Nola for helping Hipyo around
Thank you Nola. We couldn’t do this without you 🐱
Thank you Nola for helping out hippyo your are the best
Already pre-ordered this :)
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo you are the best.
You should try the Yunzii YZ75… it costs a 100 dollars, is hotswapp, southfacing led’s, and sounds great stock
keyboard can sound very good without foam if the keyboard have great acoustic design thats why I prefer foamless build because I want that my keyboard will sound unique because most of the boards sound very similar with foam
I see this argument a lot, but I don't think removing foam makes a board sound more unique, especially when comparing to other well constructed boards without foam. They also end up sounding really similar to each other
@@HipyoTech from my experience this is wrong If you looking for exapmle on high end board the keyboard on his base form (without foam) has own unique sound because of his matirial and acoustic design
for example brass weight can make the keyboard sounds unique If the designer decides to place the weight in a certain position or devotes part of the weight of the keyboard to it
if you put case foam on keyboard that have really serious brass weight the unique sound of the brass weight is gone the plate faom gives every keyboard foamy sound profile
I experienced on the tomo / 8xv 3.0/ jane v2 ce and now on the new budget qk boards
there isn't worng to put faom on the keyboard but the best impression to chack if you like the sound to the board is first to go foamless and then decide what for you works the best🙂
"Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo you are the best"
Hi Hipo , You like putting stuff into your keyboard.. what happen to you take those un pop bubble wrap into the keyboard ? Poppy right ?
Thank you, Nola! You are the best
I dont know where else to ask since the mechanical keyboard subreddit is currently closed - should you cut neoprene foam to go between the plate and PCB, as well as put neoprene at the bottom of the keyboard? I want to reduce any rattling and hollow sound, so i should do both, right?
Yes both keyboard building is all about experimenting, experiment
As you recommend trying with and without foam, would it be a good idea to try every variation of foam amount or just do an all or nothing comparison?
Try variations!
@Hipyo Tech thanks getting my zoom tkl in finally Tuesday and can't wait to see what combination of foam will sound great with my Boba u4ts
Is foam modding safe? Is it a fire hazard? I’m thinking about trying it but my dad thinks it’s unsafe
Do you have any videos about gaskets and gasket performance?
4:29 "Im wondering if thats really the case here"
You seriously missed out on a huge pun by just showing some footage of the case and going oh yeah the case is right here xD
Love when you do these kinda punny jokes in your videos so I just noticed that :D
You should do a mxrskey ck650 build!!! I just preordered one and theres only like two videos on it! tons of its bigger brother tho... But i would love to see if you could make it have a nice marbly sound profile as thats what im striving for! i bought that board, along with oil kings, and some mistel double shot pbt cherry prof BOW keycaps! what do you think? think ill get the marbly sound im looking for?
Have you ever reviewed or had any experience with a nuphy kb?
Nola did the best job with the stabilizers!
Acoustic engineering of foams:
the air bubble in the material transmit the sound, the elastic gummy part of the material absorbs it, they are two conflicting effects and for this foam the bubble wins.
Sound isolation material are "open fiber materials" like: wood fiber, mineral fibers, cellulose, sheep's wool (check the kill-mat how it is made inside).
Example of material that worsen the acoustic in construction are all rigid with bubbles: polyurethane, polystyrene, cellular glass.
Hello, @Hipyo Tech I want to start with this hobby, I am from Europe and maybe I will buy parts from Aliexpress. Would you recommend something fron there like kit, switches, keycaps ? I am willing to spend around 60-70 dollars for my first keyboard and also like the thock sound, kinda silent keyboard ?
Nola is such a good helper!!
seems cool
Is good keyboard but a question you can try the new akko mod 007v3 ?
I'm new to building keyboards. I'm wanting to build a 60% board but I can't figure out what case I should use. Do you have any suggestions I'm looking for a quality board that cost under $750 combined. I want aluminum and prefer the usb c to be on the left side. I want a nice back plate and to have multiple face plates for it so I can try different ones to see what I like the best. While RGB is not a must but I do like RGB. For the acoustics I just want something that's not loud. I where headphones 99% I'm at my computer so I wont hear it anyway but I don't want people to be able to here it over the microphone when I'm in my meetings or playing games. Any help choosing a board would be appreciated.
Can u lube non hot swappable switches? if yes, how?
“tactiles are clackier”
boba u4t: you underestimate my power
hey there !i modded my spacebar and backspace with kilmat too and it does make it sound better but is it safe for the keyboard?it left something like black glue on the inside walls of the keycap and i just wanted to know if thats safe...have agood day :)
YES A CLACK BUILD!!!
In Vietnam this kit only starts at 115$ (group buy), insane value.
I would recomend making a video about modding the ajazz ak692 its a good busget hotswap keeb and mine sound pretty good with lubed/clipped stabs and gateron yellow switches
I know those goofy caps. Oddly good for the price, but a little bit cursed.
CAPSLOCk
new to keyboards bought this to resell though or use depends on how it sounds feels and looks, also the price after the gb, idk sounds good to me so i bought it
I have those keycaps, and aren't those keycaps PBT? The amazon link you put in the description also wrote that it's PBT
There is so much your own community could teach you about building that board and skipping the plate foam without it being troublesome
Personally would've went with Wuque WS browns as they are much better than the heavy tactiles
i love watching this channel because it makes me feel that my current keyboard sucks.
Having a thocky sound or whatever sound actually annoys your team mate.. They are not annoying as blue switch is because you won't hear the sound a lot if you play games but if you type while on vc then it's actually annoying
@@chicken8951 it annoys them if you have a shit mic yeah
I woke up at 6 AM just to wait 11 hours
As long as it isn’t super hollow or pingy then I’d be happy with my board regardless if it had foam inside or not.
are there any resources for custom printed keycap designs on more high quality keycaps? like I really want a thocky keyboard with the more retro-flat style of keycap, but I want to apply my own design to them from a game. I've seen WASD custom keycap printing but those are just designs printed on... idk, okay keyboards, and if i am dropping money on something i'd very much like it to be the best it can be :(
Hi Hipyo , I am trying to get into the hobby. A Nood . i am waiting for my tools and board (NJ80) to arrive. Do you have a list of your recommendation on your each of your board mod ? I watch some of your past video. top 5 way to make your keyboard thock i am not really sure, do i use the tape mod and plastic wrap mod together ? i meant is there a way i can look up for recommendation, like if i am using NJ80 + Oilking switch + XDA caps, what are the mod you recommend a newbie like me can do ? and what will be a more advanced mod when i get better. Thank you
Can you try to mod a cheaper keyboard like Rakk Lam ang Lite/Pro thocky or clacky build
why mkbhd and linus tech tips
I'm dreaming of a gasket mounted 75 with knob and rgb that thoccs that's not a GB....is the Q1 the only choice left? I don't like the gmmk so...
9:42 GRIPPERS 😍😍😍
Wonder what would happen if you used an old desk mat inside a keeb?
Why not use plate fork or chopsticks for keeping the plates stable when adding switches? Feel like that’s a common complaint in these vids when it’s not really something you need foam to solve
My favorite mod I came up with is filling keycaps with bluetac to create extra thocc especially for cheaper builds, yes I did bluetac fill a GMMK keycap set, fight me
seems like a good keycaps to be in stock on drop... gasketmount alumunum case metal weight on the bottom seems nice, i am looking for another cheaper custom keyboard. Well i guess it was its in stock now. I have a portico i have a kbd67 laser edition im using now with tealious v2s lubed gmk evil dolch keycaps. I need a gasket mount i need something with a deep thocc sound. I was going to get the new aluminum portico or the more expensive salvation spring mount thing but i cant afford that thing right now looking for something under 200 for board and switches together i got keycaps
minimal thin foam, height and hollowness is the key to real thock. like knocking on wood thock, not that fake pe foam marbly thock
But you said kinetic sand is way to go ?
i removed the case foam on my keyboard and it sounds really good better than when it had the case foam
4:02 I’m going to the doctor right now
Thank you Nola for helping out Hipyo you are the best and uh subscribe.
Thanks Nola
