Missing out by ceasing to exist is literally the opposite of torture. The Book of Revelation says the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. And with God having said, "Vengeance is Mine," damnation ultimately proves to be the revenge of a lover spurned (God, being the lover).

Perhaps. But when you consider what the Lord Jesus Christ went through on Calvary's cross, when He was made the sin offering for God, that sinners like you and me should not have to suffer the Lake of Fire, but have eternal Life in Heaven, it shows how serious God treats sin. If that is what He did to His own Son, think what He will do to you likewise.

After approx. 33 years of believing the eternal torment of those who are not redeemed, I finally came to the same opinion as you have, now for around 7+ years. There are a few verses that still
trouble me but I believe there is abundant scripture that supports the eventual annihilation of the "being" that sins. I do believe that all will appear before the great white throne and the lost will pay for their sins and crimes against humanity and that they will linger in the lake of fire until that debt is satisfied and then their "being" will cease to be forever. No other doctrine causes people to Hate and blame YHWH God than the eternal punishment in the lake of fire. Such a harsh punishment after only such a short lifetime on this earth. It makes YHWH a monster and cruel beyond belief.
The thought of "ceasing to be" is in itself a frightening prospect to consider.

I fell from my Christian faith for quite some time because of my belief that God torments the unsaved forever. I should have done more bible reading on my own. Eventually, I did just that and came to the same conclusion you did. Some Christians cite Matthew 25:46 “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” When I say annihilation IS everlasting punishment, they tell me that in Greek or Hebrew punishment means affliction or torment and that the English translation is wrong. I found out that punishment is also a usage word in Greek. Just as it is written in the English bible. I'm shocked that some people seem to enjoy the idea that God would torment someone FOREVER and twist this verse to support their views. I'll be using this video from now on when the subject of eternal torment comes up again. Great Job!

If you do not accept Christ, you remain in dead works, the old covenant. Those who are in Christ have this new covenant, having been loosed from the law of Sinning and Dying (sin and death):
“This is the covenant I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord.
I will put My laws in their hearts
and inscribe them on their minds.”b
      “Their sins and lawless acts
      I will remember no more.”
For in the law righteousness cannot be attained. Instead, the old covenant reminded of sins, but the new covenant is a covenant of grace, and eternal life.
We are no longer bound to the flesh, and so waste away in the grave as those in the old days who did not believe in the hope that was revealed through the prophets. But Today, as long as Today stands, if you listen, you have a high priest greater than those in the old covenant, and have entered the rest which God spoke of in those days.
For a rest from dead works, in ordinances, and fear, and remembrance of sins is now open to those who believe.
And we have a high priest of immortal life, whose perfect eternal sacrifice stands. A sacrifice for the covering of sins, and providing cleansing of conscience, opening the way to God without fear.
And we have a high priest, a mediator, merciful and compassionate, having lived as one of us, and perfected in obedience to death.
It is the Spirit of God who remakes us to actualize the righteousness inferred in the law, and if the seed of God is in us, and as the promises of the new covenant cannot be broken, being established forever, we shall no longer exist as though one with the flesh.
The flesh shall wither, but we shall live towards a better hope.

I think there will be such regret and sorrow for those without hope waiting in the grave for judgment because they will know it is too late to put anything right and too late to receive Pardon. They will be as prisoners awaiting sentence whereas those who know their Saviour will sleep or wait in peace in the grave until the Judgment. How terrible for the wicked to know from the grave that they will die a second death, never to enjoy life, and that they are nothing but stubble and refuse to be burnt up in the fire, the garbage dump because they had no love of the Truth that they might be saved from this. lex, I only discovered your channel recently but I have been really reading my Bible with new eyes over the last couple of years, taking off the lifetime of man's teaching, and there are amazing truths which have set me free. I have believed in the eternal torment for as long as I can remember. Until today, I was skeptical, but I prayed the Lord would allow me to hear what he wanted to say. I see what you're saying, and I agree. While I still have questions, I don't doubt. But why I comment. To me, something about being eternally destroyed, struck from existence into nothingness. That is far more frightening than eternal torment. As horrible as eternal pain would be, it seems equally as terrible, if not more so, to be completely stricken from existence.

It's better than the all consuming existential crisis I've lived with for years. The hell view I've labored under just taught me to fear a sadistic deity that was just waiting for one screw up. I believed even if I did make it into heaven I'd be under the constant strain of policing my behavior so I wouldn't get kicked out. After a while the strain of living up to God's standards and constantly walking on egg shells would be so bad I'd just willingly opt for the lake of eternal torment I was doomed to end up in anyways. I'm glad you've done these series. I feel something akin to hope now.

Thanks for posting the video and providing a different view on eternal life and death. One question though - when I read through Revelation 14:6-13, it mentions that those that worship the beast and his image and receive his mark will be tormented and that the smoke of their torment ascends for ever and ever, and that they will have no rest day or night. What does this mean with respect to what you've mentioned in your video? Do these people die or will they be tormented for eternity? I ask because I have always found this topic very interesting, and as you noted, there are so many teachings on the matter. Which one can be correct?
Please note that this is not intended to refute what you are saying. I genuinely wish to know what that passage means. Is there another way to look at it?

Read it again. Does it say that their torment will continue forever, or does it say that the SMOKE of their torment rises forever? God will always be aware of those who were destroyed. Also, having no rest day or night does not indicate anything eternal. A person can have a time where they have no rest for a week, or even a month, or even years, and that is still not eternal, even though it’s a long time.

After receiving Yeshua Messiah as our Saviour, He baptizes us with His Ruach Ha'Kodesh, which is our Helper who He promised to send to us after He returned to the Father in heaven. It is through the sanctification of God that we are even able to tishuvah (Jewish word for repentance), and work righteousness, AS A RESULT OF SALVATION, NOT TO OBTAIN IT! Please understand this imperative truth.

@max marrero exactly! This evil doctrine of eternal torment doesn't help people to want to go to be with that kind of god forever. The real Father of Eternity is a good God, who is just, perfect, wise, benevolent and cares deeply about His children. For this reason He sent His only begotten Son, Yeshua Messiah, into the world, out of eternity, to Tabernacle amongst us, and pay our full sin debt, but only if we receive it and Trust Him with all of our hearts. I’m not trying to be contentious, and the following are intended as questions rather than statements. And like most who hope to find Yeshua's true word, I am merely in search of the truth and not attempting to dictate or "preach".
One thing that many like to say is that "Jesus talked about hell more than heaven". But since hell is a Germanic derivative of the name of Loki's daughter and as such has more association with paganism than any faith with Abrahamic roots, such a statement is highly debatable.
But even if Yeshua did talk of "hell" more than heaven, if it's a points-based system where the amount of times something is mentioned in the bible constitutes truth, then "human" death and destruction indisputably triumphs over eternal torment.
Of course, those who preach eternal punishment of hell will stick to their guns, but unless they have absolutely indisputable proof that the doctrine of eternal torment is valid; have they not considered that on the day of judgement God may ask them the question: “Why have you spent your life lying about me”? After all, didn't Yeshua say something along the lines of "On that day, many will say Lord Lord..."?
Yeshua said "do not be deceived". The problem with deception, is by nature of deception you won't know you're being deceived, and the moment you think you're on top of deception, you've probably just been deceived.
As I said, these are questions not statements. The truth will set you free, but the dictation of hell doesn't sound very free to me if people only conform through terror instead of love.

Yes! You are saying the exact same thing that I was telling someone yesterday. Conclusions I came to through my own experience and understanding of who God is, open minded Bible reading and common sense. It is the view that is most in line with scripture as I see it, and I’m so encouraged to hear others argue from the exact same scriptures. It just seems so obvious! No need to reinterpret or anything. Seems plain as day. I have had this view for many years, but been silent about it. The unity of the Church is very important to me, and I wouldn’t want to create controversy or a split, but at the same time, I know what an unnecessary stumbling block the doctrine of eternal torment can be. The ones I have shared my views with have not been able to refute it, but people are afraid of believing heresy, and I don’t want to cause a doubt in what they have been taught, which might lead them to doubt other sound doctrines... And yet, I feel that maybe this is the time to speak up. The doctrine of eternal torment does not cause me to evangelize more, it would rather depress and paralyze me if I was to take it seriously. I still want to save people from the wrath to come, but what motivates me most to reach out to people, is Jesus’ desire for his lost bride. He suffered and died because of his love for her. I want him to get his full reward for his suffering. I’m longing to see people set free and receive eternal life, which is not only immortality, but abundance of life in God.

Adam and eve brought physical death into the world by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the wages of sin are physical death. He wants to interpret all those Bible verses like it means that you will die in hell. I can't image any church accepting his doctrine about hell, its too flawed and contradictory to the Bible. the concept of hell is apparently too harsh:
2 Timothy 4 verse 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have *passed away*
No more it said. No more doesn’t mean still existing somewhere, and forever and ever doesn’t mean all of eternity. If you can actually show me a verse to prove your view then we can discuss it. But I promise you, I’ve found “forever and ever” and “smoke rises up forever” for things that aren’t even happening anymore.
      Isaiah 34
      10 Night and day it shall not be quenched;
its smoke shall go up forever.
      From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
none shall pass through it forever and ever.
11 But the hawk and the porcupine shall possess it,
the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
He shall stretch the line of confusionfn over it,
and the plumb line of emptiness.
12 Its nobles--there is no one there to call it a kingdom,
and all its princes shall be nothing.
How are animals going to posses a land covered in fire. Their smoke rising up forever means their end can’t be undone. This kingdom has fallen by God, and it’s obviously not a field of fire forever if animals are able to inhabit it eventually. But their smoke WILL rise up forever, and it won’t be quenched because you can never undo what is done. I don’t think that Satan will be destroyed but the wicked in mankind will suffer forever. I believe their punishment is eternal however, and it can’t be undone. I mean I definitely could be wrong I’m nowhere near a biblical scholar so, I’m definitely open to ideas. But take in mind the following
      2 Thessalonians 1
5 ¶ This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering--
6 since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
7 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 They will suffer the punishment of *eternal destruction* away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
10 when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed

I think it's pretty straightforward and clear! However it seems to me that people will hear whatever they want to hear, and disregard anything that doesn't fit in with their current paradigm. In one of the main, most well known Bible verses, this teaching is made pretty clear. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not PERISH (to die or be destroyed through violence, privation, etc.: to pass away or disappear: to suffer destruction or ruin) but have eternal life." Notice the comparison from the mouth of Jesus: those that don't believe in Him shall PERISH, while those that do believe will LIVE for eternity.

IMarkovic1995 Your problem is we don't know what religion is right. Their is no evidence for it.
Some places in the bible argue different things. Some places eternal tourment. Some all being saved. Some anailation.
Now a God of light love and life would not tourture people for ever.
He would not cause people to be deader than dead.
The bible is full of metaphors. We just don't know which one is meant litteral.
But eternal tourture conflicts with a loving God. No one could argue that a God that loves you will not tourture you for ever.
A God of life will not earase the mind body and soul out of existence.
So my point is its just. Comman sense that with the attributes assigned to the biblical God eternal tourture and anailation are just metaphors.

  • @ALivingFlame

    Brother, please listen...
    Daniel 12:
"But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt"
(One must be everlasting to experience everlasting contempt.)
    Matthew 25:
"... And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
(One who no longer exists can no longer be punished, but this is not so. The damned will be sentenced to "eternal punishment" which means they will be as eternal as their punishment.)
    Revelation 20:
"And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.... "
(There isn't even any other way to interpret this. "forever and ever" they will be "tormented". How can you be tormented forever if you no longer exist?)
    Jude 13:
"[These people are] wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever"
(How can God reserve darkness for someone forever if they no longer exist?)
What more can be said? Souls are not material, so they cannot be "destroyed" in the same way as a physical body. The destruction of the soul that Yeshua mentions is not the same as physical destruction. It is destruction of ability. I get the impression that the lake of fire is both physical and metaphysical. The Word makes clear that fire purifies, but their souls can never be purified. They are left in an eternal "flame" but can never be pure, so they are tormented forever. By the way, the ashes under the feet of the righteous refers to the aftermath of Satan's army who will surround Yeshua's camp, but then be destroyed by fire raining down from Heaven. It has nothing to do with the more metaphysical "Lake of Fire".
There is eternal reward and eternal punishment. Once God gives his breath of life, he doesn't take it back. Souls are final, this is why punishment is nessecary in the first place.
I pray for you discernment, my brother. Do not be satisfied, always be ready and willing to test the Word. Not because the Word is in error, it isn't, but because we are imperfect.
    You are loved

Samuel The Fox You are soooo correct. Now dont get me wrong the Brother normally has good teachings BUT on this one he missed the mark. His teaching is of the views of Seven Day Adventist and he also contridicted himself. there was no need to EXPLAIN HELL IN THE BEGINING TO ADAM AND EVE as they were perfect so using biblical references from there can be misleading. There are 2 deaths, one to all man and woman in the physical death ( flesh made mortal from sin) and the soul. The soul of human will be judged which is immortal and house Gods spirit. It must return to God to answer to the statutes of Gods law. As the judgement hasnt taken place All awaits the judgememt for second death. Some however will not experience this first death as they will be "raptured" upon his return... Like Elijah.... Then the tribulation where the toutue of the wicked will happen as explained in the rich man and Lazarus, then Gods eternal Judgement Where those in Hades will with Satan himself be anialiated forever. He is misinformed and has to go a little deeper to get out of his head what he was taught. God did not destroy Lucifer and his legion of fallen angles. He cast them out of heaven just as he did with Adam and Eve. The difference is by Gods love he predestined and created the Tree of Life as a way for man to have access Back into his Kingdom.... These fallen angels are also spirits but demonic in nature as they opposed God. They have no human body but thy to appeal and tempt man to be in defiance to God. This is how Adam and Eve were able to communicate with Satan before sin just as God is. So after sin both Adam and Eve realised they were naked meaning Gods Spirit left them and they were now prisoners to Satan giving him power and dominion over them. God cursed Satan into the form of a snake to now make humans aware of these evil spirits who have no physical body BUT wants to TEMPT AND OR initially dwell within YOUR SOUL. This is why he will destroy the wicked. For some like Jezebel they literally open up their souls to house the demonic spirits giving them a mortal body to operate with.
So he must understand ALL OF THIS BEFORE HE CAN MAKE SUCH CONCLUSIONS. EVEN JOB THINKING WAS NO MATCH FOR GOD.

Wow. That really makes sense. It's crazy how many doctrines of the "New Testament Churches" aren't founded in scripture at all, or even the New Testament they claim is still in effect.

      Daniel 12 (KJV)
1: And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2: And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Ryan the Raptor Guy It is true that the Bible says, "the wages of sin is death" (Ro. 6:23). By saying what this guy is saying in the video he is gambling the whole of his eternity on the meaning of one word: "death." He assumes it means the "termination of existence," but his assumption is erroneous. as a little reasoning should reveal.
For instance Hitler was responsible for the cruel deaths of six million Jews, many of whom were children. Was his death "the wages" of his unspeakably terrible sins? If death is the end, then God will give you the exact same wages as Hitler. That would mean that God is unjust, which is unthinkable.
The person who believes that our demise is the end is in for the shock of their death. Their physical death (separation from their body) is just the beginning. There is going to be a resurrection of every human being, both "the just and the unjust" (see Acts 24:15). This is not referring to the good and the bad, because the Scriptures tell us that there are no "good" people (see Psa 14:1-3; Mark 10:18). There are only those who have been made "just" before God, by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Through the Gospel, God freely justifies all those who come in childlike faith to the Saviour. That means He proclaims us innocent-as though we had never sinned in the first place- and we become part of the "just." However, those who die in their sins, "the unjust," will "fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb. 10:31). That is a very fearful thing, because He will give them justice- their exact wages due to them- and if that happens, there will be no hell to pay. They will be thrown into the lake of fire, "which is the second death" (Rev. 20:14; 21:8).

Nehemías Pedret Anton, stop saying that the man is gambling his eternity. God is not going to throw you in hell for believing in annihilation of the wicked verses eternal torment. Either way, it is separation from God, and each is a punishment.
Furthermore, the Bible is clear on what we must do to be saved.
Repent, believe on Jesus Christ for forgiveness, and confess Jesus (Yeshua) and believe that God has raised Jesus from the dead.

It is ETERNAL torment. It's written in the bible:
"Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into EVERLASTING fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" - Matthew 25:41
“Then they will go away to ETERNAL punishment, but the righteous to ETERNAL life.” - Matthew 25:46

What about "the gnashing of teeth" I hear about? I was taught in church that they'll be the gnashing of teeth in "hell" or wherever they are. The people in Abraham's bossom could look over and see people in suffering. In the story of Lazarus, the rich man asked for a drop of water to cool his tongue. If you could put these into context it would help me a lot. I know it's up to me too read my Bible to answer my questions but I've only recently started to do this. I like your videos because they point me in the right direction. May GOD bless you

Timothy Farrand Just because they wicked will be destroyed forever does not mean that there will not be a season of torment before their final destruction.
The unsaved will be resurrected for a second time and in that time it'll be the "great white throne judgement". It could be in this time that the weeping and gnashing of teeth occur and after the second death.

Son of Man It doesn't, the assumption that hell is eternal, linked with weeping and gnashing of teeth equals the assumption that the weeping and gnashing of teeth is also eternal. An incorrect inference in my estimation.

Couple of things here, and very interesting topic. I'm trying to learn more on it so thank you for making this. 1) Jesus DID refer to us as gods (elohim) in John 10:31-37 (referencing Psalm 82). Also 2) the rich man/poor man issue. Was it a story to get us to understand a point, like the issue of plucking out one's eye/cutting off your right hand, ect?

    You're wrong. Hebrews 9:27
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.
And what about the story about the rich man and Lazarus ) Luke 16:19-31) where the rich man died and found himself in Hades, in agony?
Does the phrase "..where there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.." ring a bell??

What happens is that when we have been indoctrinated for so many years with a piece of information that is not really based in the Bible is hard to accept. I used to think the same as you before... But, once you discover the truth, it hard to understand how we thought about eternal torment. God said to Adan and Eve when they fall, "you will die" that was the warning, nothing about eternal fire, etc. Also, the apostle Paul NEVER talked about it!!! He said in so many places... payment for sin is death. Sorry for my English. I hope you understand what I am trying to explain to you, and I hope God guides you to understand and accept that what this guy said in this video is 100% the truth. Even...I do not agree with all his videos, but I completely agree with this one.
